About the Artist
International Steinway Artist, Steve Hall, has been playing the piano since the age of five, having been classically trained until the age of eighteen. He then developed a music career and continued to pursue it on a part-time basis, playing at thousands of weddings and private parties (including those of the rich and the famous.) Upon graduation from USC (majoring in history with a minor in music,) he began a management career in banking, which lasted almost twenty-five years. Most recently he was the vice president of the Bank of Hollywood in Toluca Lake, California. Steve has been many-times honored in banking, yet music has remained his passion. He became known as "The Banker With The Beat." At every event where he performed, Steve's music and styling received tremendous attention. Enthusiastic fans began to request recorded samples of his music. Encouraged by his family and friends, and with overwhelming response, Bankbeat Productions, Inc. was born in July 1992 with the recording of his first album, "Notes of Romance." The music sold rapidly and was soon picked up by national distributing companies for sale in gift shops, Hallmark stores, boutiques, book shops, and privately-owned businesses. Nine years and many recordings later, Bankbeat Productions, Inc. has sold over one million units. The company currently offers twenty-five musical collections inclusing a 40 minute inspirational video of selected songs set to nature imagery, entitled, "All Things Bright and Beautiful." In the works, to be released in 2001, is his first musical DVD. Steve categorizes his music as "great-sounding, heart-warming, familiar tunes." He attributes his musical success to his attentiveness toward people and what they want to hear. His father had always told him to play from the heart, anf encouraged him to share God's gift of music with others. Indeed, it is his music's uplifting appeal and familiarity that has earned Steve a loyal following from people of all walks of faith. With the success of three more romantic albums, "Coming Home", "Timeless Love", and "The Gift of Love", Steve began to concentrate on recording the music of his childhood--Inspirational music. Despite the skepticism expressed by his distributors for the appeal of inspirational music, Steve released his 1996 recording, "On Eagle's Wings." This album has surpassed sales of 500,000 units and has brought heartfelt correspondence from across the country. It has been welcomed by folks with open arms, and remains the top selling album in the gift market today! Steve has recorded a variety of music styles, including popular show tunes, standards, classical, romantic, inspirational, Celtic, Christmas, and patriotic. He considers himself very blessed to be surrounded by such gifted musicians and to have met so many wonderful people relating to the recording experience. Steve has performed solo and with his ensemble in many venues throughout the United States and Canada.

Product Description

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2007-06-14

This CD is a must have for any Mormon Tabernacle Choir fans. The music is very reverent and gentle, and should also appeal to those not from the LDS church, seeing as how most of the music is common to the wider Christian community. This CD is a fantastic addition to any music collection.

3 out of 5 stars A few bright spots, but also some disappointments.......2007-01-19

It Is Well With My Soul is one of my favorite-favorites and that is the main reason why I bought the CD; it turned out to be a huge let down on this album, they rearranged it so much that I almost didn't recognize it. Be Still My Soul is another reason why I bought it and it's good, but not great. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is where it starts to get good. The last two songs "Thou Gracious God, Whose Mercy Lends"
and "Come, Let Us Anew" are very good reasons to buy this CD, they each have truely powerful passages and make the CD worth having. The Mormon Tabernacle Choirs 2006 release entitled Then Sings My Soul is by far the best that I've heard from them.

5 out of 5 stars This CD Deserves SIX Stars!.......2005-11-05

However, the rating scale has a limit of five. I own over 700 CDs of virtually every type of music. Peace Like A River belongs in a class by itself! I've never written a review before but, after listening to this STUNNING performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I feel compelled to share my praise with that of the five other reviewers. If I were limited to one word, I would use the word "SUPERB" to describe this beautiful and moving CD. SIX stars for Peace Like a River! BRAVO!!!

5 out of 5 stars every good adjective .......2005-08-06

This album is all beauty and solace. The singing is pristine, the arrangements lush and often stirring--never saccharine. As with the previous reviewer, my first listing of "Peace Like a River" brought me to tears (especially "Peace Like a River," the sopranos in "Swing Low," and the bagpipes in "Thou Gracious God"). Buy this one.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!.......2005-05-29

The perfect recording to help you recover from a long, hard day. Showcasing the MTC's "new" sound in contemporary choral arrangements with its own orchestra and conductor, "Peace Like a River" brought tears to my eyes in selection after selection during my first listen -- and I'm not normally an emotional person! The title song together with "Deep River," "Swing Low" and "Be Still My Soul" are alone worth the cost of the recording. Get this one!

Album Description

Highly anticipated 2006 album from one of the hottest new bands in the UK at the moment, Sheffield's own Bring Me the Horizon. This is a real shot of much needed youth and adrenaline for the UK Metal scene. The album is full of what people have already come to expect from the band: breakdowns, massive riffs, time signatures, tempo changes, immense vocals, shredding solos, blistering percussion, etc. But the experience of working with top producer Dan Sprigg (lostprophets, Cradle Of Filth) has brought a new found maturity out of the guys, a more solid direction and focus in song writing and structure. 10 tracks including 'Pray For Plague'. Visible Noise. 2006.

4 out of 5 stars Better than most.......2007-06-22

I just discovered these guys recently, so I have not heard their previous ep. However, I'm loving this album and think this band has amazing potential. 'Pray for Plagues' is my favorite, but indeed all tracks are good. The instrumentals don't do much for me though, maybe if they were longer. One of the only complaints I would have is their use of breakdowns opened by the cookie monster growls. Don't get me wrong, they do those better than most, but in every song it does get a bit old. As young as these guys are, they are definitely going to do something. The vocalist is extremely talented for this genre, and their musical abilities are no different. I think if they keep it up and stay clear of what is popular in this genre, they will stay on top.

5 out of 5 stars great improvement.......2006-11-15

Bring Me The Horizon's Count Your Blessings is a major improvement from their previously released EP This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat Was Made For. Some of the songs on CYB had been previously recorded live and in rough demos. The two instrumental tracks, Slow Dance and 15 Fathoms, Counting [which is also acoustic], are executed amazingly and show that BMTH aren't just five little teenagers with an electric guitar, but are also talented in the non-'br00tal' genre. I don't have any favorite tracks, because all of them are different in their own way and are all excellent.

5 out of 5 stars speechless.........2006-11-11

this cd is soo much better than their last ep..and that was amazing. you should definately buy this cd. if you like this band, i would recommend with blood comes cleansing, abigail williams, and as blood runs black, as they somewhat relate to this band. and they're a few of my personal favorites =)

Quality music at a great price, this collection features 20 tracks including 'How Deep Is The Ocean', 'No Strings', 'Puttin' On The Ritz' & 'Heatwave'. The Swingles have, unusually, incorporated electric keyboards, horns and drums into their usually acappella approach, resulting in some thoroughly modern interpretations of Berlin's classics. 2 out of 5 stars Doesn't work for me........2006-05-04

I LOVE the Swingle Singers. The first time I heard them sing Bach back in the 60's I was driving a car and I was so blown away that I had to pull off the road. And I LOVE Irving Berlin's music; his message is simple and direct and tuneful. And therein lies the rub. To me, the jazz vocal styles, the contemporary harmonies and the whimsical utterances of the Swingle Singers go together with Irving Berlin's music like oil and water; they just don't mix. The words and melodies are those of Irving Berlin but the end result isn't Irving Berlin. Admittedly this is one man's opinion, and others might take great pleasure in the Swingle Singers' unfailing virtuosity and inventiveness. But if you anticipate the straighforward tunes and emotional directness in Berlin's music, you are apt to be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars This is the BEST ALBUM I'VE HEARD THIS YEAR.......2005-07-08

The drumming on this album is one of the BEST parts of it... the vocals also have their place and are PERFECT for this type of music.... AOM is not easily categorized into "NU METAL" or "HARDCORE" .... they have so many influences and show it all in their music .... trust me, i am picky as hell about music - this album is hands down amazing , gets better with every listen....... awesome recording, awesome song structure, buy it!
Too bad the person before me had such a poor review - they will always be out there I suppose.

2 out of 5 stars it should have been alot better.......2005-06-26

having heard the band right when they first came around i was hooked to there first EP. They had energy to burn and tight rythms that sound good even crammed in 2 and a half minute songs. Here though there debut full length falls flat. meandering guitar riffs, flat chorus' and poor drumming. There no real bite and some probablly have already said that there a poor mans E Town Concrete. The newly recorded version of "headless" sucks and the earnesty level here is pretty high. It sounds far too much like washed out nu metal than the impression they gave me the first go around. The drumming and the singing though particularly is what real drowns the album out. the drumming is poorly structured and the vocals go from shouting and "gang vocals" (bitted right off of hatebreeed for sure) to flat harmonies by the time they reach the chorus'. it shouldve been alot better

A very good album from Nick and the Flip Tops. If you have not heard Nick Moss before you are in for a treat. He has a great way of putting a fresh spin on the traditional Chicago blues sounds. This album takes a while to get going, but the back half is great. If you can only buy one Nick album I would recommend Sadie Mae, which has a more mature sound and better production quality. Also check out the great 'Got a New plan' cd. Looking for some fresh new blues that is fanatsic look no further. Keep an eye out for Nick, he is the real deal.

4 out of 5 stars SANTA, BABY, PLEASE COOK SOME UP MORE!.......2004-05-07

Barbara Cook's first full-length Christmas CD is a treasure. Her phrasing --- as fine as Mabel Mercer's --- allows for interpretations that are memorable and magical, especially on not-so-traditional tunes as Amy Grant's "Breath of Heaven." This is a simple, intimate recording; no over-orchestrations (thank you, Wally Harper), and a most magnificent a cappella "I Wonder As I Wander." An extra bonus: Babs is joined by the Broadway Inspirational Voices on several tracks.

    4 out of 5 stars A Christmas Gem!.......2004-01-04

Just got Barbara's newest CD...her first Christmas one I believe.
What a gem! Some mixed feelings about some of the arrangements but as a whole a delight to hear! Want to hear more times, so right now, this is a premature rating...but still love Barbara a lot and have seen her 3 times here in San Francisco....I just love her rendition of "Away In A Manger", interweaving both versions of the carol...lovely and so dear! A lot of warmth and feeling in all the selections....some familiar and some not so. Unfortunately, my favorite Christmas song is "O, Holy Night" but have to say I don't care for this arrangement...my own bias...some songs I just like being done very straight.
But who knows!? This might grow on me... The "Silent Night" is exquisite! Very nice arrangement and harmony! Buy this CD and don't wait for next Christmas to listen! Thanks again, Barbara, for a beautiful gift of song for us to enjoy!

    5 out of 5 stars Heavenly.......2003-11-10

This is Barbara Cooks first Christmas CD and I hope it's not her last. As usual, her voice is heavenly, caresssing the lyrics and warming your heart. The big surprise on this set is how fresh these standard Christmas songs sound when perfrmed by Cook. Many Christmas discs can be overly florid and cliche, but not so on this disc. The only jingle bells you'll hear on these songs is in "Winter Woonderlnd" and they are subdued. Barbara Cook and her arranger Wally Harper keep things in a (deceptively) simple and intimate setting. Almost as if she's giving you a personal concert in your living room.

I've always enjoyed Amy Grant's "Breath of Heavn" and was surprised to see it appear on this CD. Cook is somehow able to make it an even more moving experience than Grant. "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" which starts acapella and grows to include a banjo and a harmonica, harken back to her Atlanta roots. Probably my favorite track is "I Wonder As I Wander" which is sung completely acapella.

I'll be listening to this set for many Christmas' to come. Count your blessings indeed. So far, I count 15.

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Christmas Album for Everyone.......2003-11-04

I just received this Christmas CD by Barbara Cook, her very first Christmas CD. I saw her last weekend in Atlanta for the very first time and now to hear this wonderful mix of Christmas songs is just heavenly. She has a voice that is so very special and delightful. I marvel at it every time I hear it. It has a quality to it that no other female singer has. The songs were chosen very carefully by Ms. Cook and Mr. Harper as I would expect. The selection "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" is just enchanting, very moving and emotional for me. It is not usually thought of as a Christmas song but it becomes an essential part of this album. Ms. Cook's voice is as clear as if she were in my living room singing to me. This Christmas album is destined to be the one you always reach for and play for your friends, family and guests. I know it will be treasured by me for many many years to come!

    5 out of 5 stars Delicate Divas.......2001-12-23

This album is a gem of delicate beauty! The artists are sensitive to the word and the vocal phrasings are gently unique and inspired! In the vein of the magnificent McGarrigles, Holly Cole, Rebecca Jenkins, the sublime Mary Margaret O'Hara, Jane Siberry and Victoria Williams sing refreshingly honest and true tales of Christmas and our love of it. An intimate and heartfelt production. What a joy it must have been to witness it, and thanks to this recording we can hear it at will.
