Allow us to take a bit more space than we usually would for one recording, as it is a recording we not only feel will be critically acclaimed, but is also one of great importance in its origin and purpose...

The artist community out of Colorado Springs known as "Blue Renaissance Creative Group" is a non-profit organization which consists of the folk ensemble 100 Portraits, acoustic fusion band Calling Cedar, and several other independent artists, all holding a global vision for reaching the lost through music. They evolved organically apart from the music industry as an expression of the Body of Christ from this generation. They brought us the Enter The Worship Circle recording last year, something they threw together to document their worship time together. Astonishingly, that rough recording captured in a make-shift studio in an old house has sold over 70,000 copies.

Without much change, and paying little attention to the success of the previous recording, 100 Portraits, joined by other Blue Renaissance artists as well as Will Hunt of Apt.core, returns with more of their original and down to earth worship-oriented songs... this time with the same name, simply being distinguished by the sub-title Second Circle. Several of the folks from Blue Renaissance have often traveled to third world countries to share their talents in the outreach efforts of indigenous churches. In recent visits to India, they were inspired by the native instruments and songs found among the village churches, and in fact documented some of the sounds they encountered, mixing select portions of those samples into the new recording.

Driving Indian rhythms intertwine with fresh, intimate, uninhibited expressions of love and worship to create this ground-breaking album, using instruments such as tablas, dumbeks, an amazing sitar, and who knows what else. With all original songwriting, even a few seemingly improv lyrical inspirations captured during the live studio recording, Second Circle allows you to join the musicians in their realization of how deep, wide, and amazing the love of God is. This collection of passionate songs reflects a desire for simplicity and spontaneity in worship, with its use of basic instruments and genuine expression. Hand percussion and acoustic guitars, simple arrangements, and a new world of looping-rhythm sections blend throughout every track creating a beautiful tapestry. Blue Renaissance is designating a dollar from each sale to go to Christian orphanages and schools in India-- one US dollar is the equivalent of an entire day's wages in India.

This CD is really great and deep in worship for our Lord. It really helped to awaken and engage my heart in Jesus and His love. I really treasure the times I've been able to spend just listening to this cd in my room + worshiping Him. Of all of my favorite worship albums, this is one of the best I've yet heard. Some other great ones like this are "The World Can Wait" by the Merchant Band, Misty Edward's cd's, "I Can't Wait" by Various Artists (might only be available at ihop.org), the WOW greatest Worship songs, and "Worship" by Micheal W. Smith.

this album has been such a blessing to me! the songs on this cd are so prayerful, thankful, meditative and heartfelt! for anyone in need of pure worship in tears to God, this is it.

Not one to pass up........2003-11-29

When I first purchased this cd off of Amazon, I was already familiar with the first circle. I had actually bought this cd for a friend of mine for her birthday. a little later, I got a chance to listen to the same songs and borrow the cd in depth. (Ok, I admit it, she burned it for me.)
Were my expectations high? Yep. Were my expectations met?
Oh yeah.
It's really hard to write a review on a worship cd, because a worship cd is either kinda dull, and you like the sound of the songs, but you dont really get anything out of it, or it blows you away. And I have to say, that the songs on this cd have blown me away, and brought me to a deeper level of worship. (If any of you gifted people who helped produce this cd are reading this, then thank you for moving in the spirit.) But, I wanted to write a short review for those of you who may be interested in this but are not sure.
The cd starts off in much of the same style as the first circle with the song I Will Bow. the first 6 tracks on this cd are incredibly powerful words that are spoken directly to God. Especially, in my opinion, Near to you, and Faithful. Rush River Rush, and Praise Awaits You, (Tracks 7 and 8) are incredible worship songs. Lost Art of Living was a bit of a culture shock to me at first. It's style is actually more eastern. But its really a cool song/poem. The rest of the songs are awesome, and I had to dance to All I Need, and I Cannot Hide My Love.
The style of the music is hard to describe for me. If you just wont listen to music without heavy guitar or drums, then you wouldnt enjoy this cd for its musical value, although there are some sweet guitar chords and combinations in here. Most of the stuff is soft, and even the faster songs are very rythmic. but if your just looking for an awesome cd to worship God to, then I would recommend this to you as a valuable treasure, and an excellent addition or start to your worship collection.

A bit too much of atmospheric filler.......2007-03-12

Even though Bethany Curve continued to follow their self-described credo -"atmosphere arrangement sound layering noise," the band's third album "You Brought Us Here," simply doesn't measure up to their first two ("Skies A Crossed Sky" and "Gold"). Sure, it has the one great song "Long Beach," which is clearly one of the band's best (and according to IPod, their most downloaded track). Indeed "Long Beach" has its sublime moments. But besides "Silver" which, to my mind, is basically another version of "Long Beach," the album kind of meanders along with gloomy atmospheric music that becomes downright tedious. Some of the tracks might have benefitted from some drastic editing, but it's hard to say.

As an atmospheric meditative exercise, "You Brought Us Here," isn't bad. And it does have that one great song. But I don't think it's comparable to Bethany Curve's first two albums which I like quite a bit more and find much more exciting.

A NEW FAN.......2003-08-29

I was in Tower Records in SF last week and heard the first track, "Long Beach" over the PA system and bought the CD immediately. The best I can describe it is a giant wave of distorted tones that together make incredible melodies. Not for the fragile minded. Some very moody and beautiful stuff. Going from one song to the next is like chapters in a book. Each song has a different story to tell.

What else can I add to what's already been written? If you like space rock (like Spiritualized), shoegaze/dream pop (like Slowdive) and/or musical introspection, then this CD will blow your mind! Through the beautiful background noise pierces transcendent reverberating guitars that will take you away to blissful splendour. I've been reading a lot of Jungian books lately, and this was the perfect soundtrack, so to speak, for Jung's ideas on the archetypes of the unconscious and the mythologies of the mind. Your imagination will flow; creativity will abound. True avant-garde rock. Buy this!

You Brought Me There.......2002-05-24

Yes sir, they certainly did. I recently attended a Bethany Curve concert in southern California and it was quite a treat. I expected to hear the typical "shoegaze" sound that thousands of bands are exploiting right now (do they realize that they all sound the same?). Anyway, Bethany Curve's presentation of music is beyond the ordinary "shoegaze" sound. Their music incorporates a unique dash of moodiness in every song. Something that is just not done correctly by anyone else. "You Brought Us Here" presents that moodiness is a great way. This record has a particular rawness that is perfect for their style. It's a rawness that grabs you and doesn't let go. I highly recommend the songs Long Beach and Airplanes Down.

This is Bethany Curve's best effort to date. The CD is rich with lush soundscapes and melodies topped off with hints of well captured noise.

Still a kids' favorite!.......2006-04-30

I listened to this group as a kid and now my 17 month old son loves it too! It makes our commute much more bearable and I sing along with the familiar tunes!

MEMORABLE AND A GREAT WAY TO LEARN!.......2005-08-28

I'm 21 and STILL have my tickle tune typhoon casette and can remember lyrics to most of the songs. This is a great learning tool. Guess how I found out what epidermis is. It teaches kids to accept people even if they are different and teaches them and enhances their learning all while entertaining them. My mom NEVER left home without it. A 13 hour car trip with me was a cake walk, as long as I had this tape. It comes HIGHLY recomended. I can't say enough about it!

Circle Round by Tickle Tune Typhoon.......2001-08-05

This is a fabulous recording to use with your eearly elementary classroom. The upbeat music keeps the children intersted in ecology with Tree Hugging, or Dinosaurs and of course Sneakers makes the children all want to get up and dance, compare their shoes to others, go on a fun excursion outdoors, etc. Going on a BEar Hunt works great with my special education preschoolers as they can repeat the lines and be involved. Simply the greatest recording to add to your classroom collection.

Album Description

The descriptions of the pieces, provided by composer Ron Warren, are from the CD liner notes.

1. Panta Rhei (tracks 1-4) For violin, keyboards, drums and mallets. Conceptually, this piece was such a collaborative effort with choreographer Susan Shields that I really hope you get a chance to see it danced sometime. The title of the music is from the Greek pantheist Heraklitus and roughly translates "Everything Flows". The imagery revolves around water, stones, earth, circles and cycles. Beauty is such a wondrous, but fragile and vulnerable energy.

2. Quatros Sonetos de Amor (tracks 5-8) For soprano, flute and piano. These songs were written for Lyndy Simons and Susan Hayes, who perform them with me here. The poems are from Neruda's Cien Sonetos de Amor, written as a gift to his wife. His sonnets are grouped into four sets: Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Night. For the songs, I chose one sonnet from each group. The first poem has special meaning for Jeannette and I. It was read at our wedding.

3. Delmarva Shore, Night (track 9) For solo piano. On a visit to Virginia Beach, Jeannette and I spent an unseasonably cool evening bundled in a blanket, seated on a life guard's chair listening to the wind and waves and watching a large flock of ring-billed gulls hunting for a late night snack. I was reminded once again of the power and relentless strength of the sea as well as the graceful determination of the creatures that live in and around it. While not specifically programmatic in the sense of trying to tell a story, the gestures and textures of the piece were suggested by memories of this and other times of cold and/or darkness the I have spent on the various shores of Delmarva Peninsula.

4. Spirit Songs (tracks 10-13) For soprano and piano. The texts, drawn from various sources, reflect a way of being in the world that I find to be healthy, sane and meaningful, hence the title Spirit Songs. They are intentionally spare and simple in the sense that, although challenging to sing because of the exposed textures, technical virtuosity is not in the foreground. On a number of levels, the texts seem to offer a much needed alternative to the image of technical virtuosity which has become such an obsession in American life. Often, the image of technical virtuosity masks a darker reality or a lack of deeper meaning. But that discussion will have to await more time and space!
