The laid-back hip-hop groove and tongue-in-cheek non sequiturs--New Kids, Chinese food, Abercrombie & Fitch are all crammed into the song's first few lines--of LFO's Top 5 hit "Summer Girls" don't quite prepare the listener for the less loopy boy-groupisms that fill the rest of the trio's self-titled debut album. The single's wistfulness, though, does carry over into charming, well-sung cuts such as "Girl on TV" and "West Side Story." As does the flow of pop-culture references, many of which nicely presume that the target audience has a knowledge of events reaching beyond the first Backstreet Boys album. --Rickey Wright

If Only Six Stars Was an Option.......2007-03-10
Clearly one of Americas finest bands ever established, LFO eptitomizes all that is good in life. To quote the timeless classic "Summer Girls," Michael J. Fox was Alex P. Keaton... and indeed he was. These lyte and funkie fellas relentlessly produce thought provoking and heart felt lyrics. I'll leave you with some thoughts from the epic "Girl on TV". "Shoobie doo wop and Scoobie Snacks, met a fly girl and I can't relax." Think it over.
Will the real LFO please stand up...............2006-11-13
I forgot all about this 'group' till i was searching limewire for the *Real* LFO (Low Frequency Oscillation), a british techno group. I got sick a little when i carelessly downloaded and played summer girls and a few other lyte funky songs,... what the.. what does lyte funky ones mean??
I didnt like when i heard their song(s) played on the radio, and i still feel that way about them... lyrics that make no sense what so ever... and an acronym band name that was already taken...
Imposters!
Ewww Girl! Ewwwwww!.......2006-03-03
Aw yeah, get the hi fi kickin' in the backround. Get that blush from the sub zero you been savin'. Invite your dime over and let it all flow! Summer Girls gon' rock you two into heaven tonight. No line will eva' cream a girls jeans like "Michael J. Fox played Alex P. Keaton". Damn, did they sell they souls to tha devil to get flows like that?
LFO.......2005-10-15
I remember this album when I was in the 7th grade. I love this album. THis album showcases the trio's vocal and songwriting talents which mesh to form a rich, unique, harmonic blend of pop, hip-hop,rap and R&B. This album has been certified Platinum. Remember, this was 1999-2000.

Lyrical genius? To quote "A Mighty Wind": I don't think so!.......2006-08-01
It has been 7 years since this song came out. No one has really heard from LFO since 2001, either (their second album yielded a minor hit and then crashed). Besides that, the "singer" jumps from one topic to another faster than Dan's father on "Roseanne". What does that tell you? They're destined to become either:
a) a 2-hit wonder group
or b) nominee for "Worst Song of the 90's".
I think they'll have great luck with both. The lyrics are insipid and disposable, and their voices are dull. Not bad, just (incredibly) dull. I'm ashamed that the techno group LFO has to share an artist page with these geeks. Not a good song or group. Sorry, LFO fans.
LFO=crap.......2003-12-10
After Baha Men's "Who Let the Dogs Out", this has to be the worst song ever recorded in the history of music. Horrible, cheesy lyrics and not even catchy poppy music, this song pure sucks.
Awesome Song!.......2003-03-26
I think this song was totally awesome. I think LFO is a good band and they write good music. This song tells about a boy named Rich who meets this girl one summer, but then she goes back home and never comes back. This song tells about how he misses her and the things he remembers about her.
This song is great........2002-08-02
To those of you negative people that say this song has absolutely no point.... Your wrong. I like this song because it writes life in a deeper form that some are to airheaded to see. It tells life just how it is with a catchy tune and a smooth voice.
listening to this will lower your IQ.......1999-09-09
what the hell kind of song is this? it makes no sense. a&f? new kids? chinese food? ok...whatever... someone needs to drag whoever wrote this song in the middle of the street and put him out of his misery.

LFO's self-titled 1999 debut introduced a boy group with smarts and imagination a cut or two above those of the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync acolytes who might otherwise have been their peer group. Casually pop-culture-savvy singles like "Summer Girls" and "Girl on TV" were partly the product of member Rich Cronin's skills. On Life Is Good, Cronin's name appears as a co-writer of every song; again, allusions from "Jack and Diane" to early-'90s rappers Black Sheep fill the likes of "28 Days" (both in that song, in fact). The music ranges from surprisingly guitar-driven pop-rock to hip-hop-wise beats, sometimes melding on tracks such as "Every Other Time." Almost as impressively, guest shots from De La Soul and M.O.P. don't embarrass the host trio. Two versions of "Dandelion" are included, no doubt to facilitate maximum radio exposure; one features neo-soul diva Kelis. They also demonstrate that the Cronin crew's ambitions are as much musical as careerist. --Rickey Wright

this music is as equivalent to 50 Cent.......2005-07-17
hey guys, i hope all of you know that 50 Cent sings in his music and all of you dont lie, but 50 cent sounds like pop, and he is a party rapper and a hypocrite. so if 50 cent does pop, and people who think hes gangsta listen to his music, does that mean if i listen to this pop record, i am listening to 50 cents music? cool man im gangsta yo i listen to LFO cuz its Pop just like 50 Cent. Peace Out.
What The Hell Happened......?.......2005-05-17
I like LFO, I even saw them in concert in 2000 and
they were great. However, what the hell happened on
this album? I mean there are a few good cuts, but these
guys are trying to be balladeers and not pop singers, I
mean really, how can these guys sing about love when
all they want to do is party? Come on guys, bring back
the partiers of LFO and leave the lovers of LFO in
their own pathetic lives, listening to their radios and
wishing they had a man/woman instead of actually going
out and meeting someone..
Awesome, catchy album!.......2004-10-10
I first saw LFO in concert, and immediately resolved to get their album right away, because all of the songs they sang were incredibly stimulating, and had the crowd jumping up and down! I don't regret purchasing this CD either. It is full of clever, original lyrics, interesting instruments like harmonicas, and melodies so catchy they get in your head after one listen. Although their concepts for the songs are somewhat unoriginal (With the exception of Life Is Good), the quirky words and their appealing Boston accents more than make up for it. my favorite songs are the meditative Life is Good, the breezy mid-tempo What If, the folkish Dandelion (two versions of the song can be found on this album, by the way-the only difference is that the second features Kelis), and the fun first single, Every Other Time. There is also a bonus track which is, inconveniently, placed after many, many blank tracks, but it's worth the wait! So overall, this is the perfect CD for pop fans tired of the cookie-cutter-type boy bands.
summer girl.......2003-11-29
i think this CD is wunderfull. me and my friends still hear this song.thanks mabie i'll write something soon. bye !!
MMM MMM Good.......2003-02-06
Ok, when white boys act all b-boyish and tough it makes me hot. However when their music stays in my head and doesn't embarass me then it's even better. LFO came out during the kamikaze attacks of the boy bands and somehow always shined a little brighter than the others. With hot rhymes, soulful vocals, and pretty freaking catchy lyrics they got my attention. With Life Is Good they may have not appeal to their average audience but actually can match their other musical peers on ADULT radio. Biggest stand outs on the disc: the debut Every Other Time which seems close to Summer Girls, the rastah infused Alayna, Duran Duran sounding Erase Her, and my personal favorite - Dandelion, of course the version with Kelis is sweeter than the original. Now what future do the boys have? Definatly a bright one but it seems like all promotional work for this albu mhas been done and both Bryan and Devin are coming out with solo projects while Brad already released his solo protoge along with his new record label 111 Records.

A Techno Masterpiece! Bulldozing Bass and Beautiful Melodies from the Electronic Godfather.
Customer Reviews:
An album you must hear........2006-11-10
It is a very special music above the average of other electronic proposals.. When I discovered that Mark Bell was involved in Bjork's sound, I decided to hear some of his music, and it was a worthwhile desicion. It presents a very nice programming of the analog synthesizers. There is a "quasi academic" tendency in the development of his themes, and he uses timbre as a leading element in the discourse
Energizing.......2004-07-11
The Sheath album is such a crisp clean modern sounding collection. My favorite title is Freak which sounds like something you can dance your ass off in a techno club. And a few others of the songs are very mystical sounding. I recommend this album.
A disappointing comeback.......2004-04-21
LFO's "Advance" was one of the classic mid-nineties dance albums, with its crisp, almost militaristic beats and moonrise-on-Mars atmosphere. This album, seven years later, is a bit of a letdown, with much less of a distinctive identity. It reminded me more of Orbital at their most techno than of previous LFO releases... but much, much less interesting than Orbital. Oh well.
LFO has an accident.......2004-04-09
SHEATH became everything that I expected the album's music not to be: lethargic, and filled with goofy/cutsey sounds that are more embarrasing than intriguing. There are hardly any glimpses of the pioneering work LFO has done as one of the earliest signings to the Warp Records roster nearly 15 years ago.
There were only two bright spots for me on this album. One was the album opener "Blown", which layers synths and muted, distant percussion to form a genuinely beautiful melody. The other was "Snot" which has great maniacal percussion backed by SHEATH's strongest hook.
The remainder of the music ranges from mediocre to completely terrible. The worse offenders being "Monkeylips", "Sleepy Chicken" and "Mummy, I've Had an Accident". The single from this album, "Freak", dosen't quite shake the dancefloor as it's opening robot-vocal sample would entice you to believe. (Consider the "Freak" CD single, as it has two decent non-album tracks which fare better as dance music than most material here).
Final Rating: 1.5 stars
The brains behind Bjork.......2004-01-24
I'm am a music enthusiast. LFO has to be regonized for their groundbreaking first album's contributions to the electronic music genre, and for their brilliant production techniques for likes of Bjork. Although their work is released on the primarily IDM (intelligent dance music) label Warp Recordings, it should be noted that this is much more listenable cd for the masses then works by the other major artists on the label (aphex twin, plaid, autechre, and squarepusher). "There's something for everyone" ; so to speak, some hard hitters, some good cruis'N tunes, one or 2 club bangers, and several tracks to chill out with. Alot of energy on this album, but only gets 4 out of 5, cause theirs not anything as unforgetable as Simon from Sidney.

Historical techno album.......2005-12-18
Today I still listening to only 6-7 of the hundreds of techno and electro CDs & tapes I've had these last 15 years: LFO's Frequencies is one of them. A historical album, one of the decisive european's techno scene kick-off in the early' 90's.
Still so fresh and actual today too, I'll keep on listening to it for some years, no doubt.
track titles.......2005-08-12
I'm surprised noone has posted a comment on the track title mishap on this album. Starting with track 7, the titles are ahead of themselves. EX: track 9 is titled EL EF OH, but the sample repeats, "you have to understand," which what the previous track is titled. Track 10 is titled LOVE IS THE MESSAGE, but repeats in a stuttering voice, "el ef oh." & it continues. Its not an error on Amazon's end, the actual disc & casing include the titles the same way. OOPs on TOMMYBOY RECORDS end!
All & all, great record tho!

Essential Electronica.......2005-01-27
I was appalled when some lame "boy b(r)and" had the nerve to call themselves LFO. Why hasn't Mark Bell sued? Anyway, this is great electronica inspired by Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and others. A great homage and a great bunch of bass heavy, electronic beats that make you move to the dance floor. This is an overlooked classic of Electronica. Very trippy.
essential listening.......2004-04-13
You're not a true fan of electronic music unless you own this disc. Light years ahead at its release, it has withstood the test of time effortlessly and still thrills and chills like no other. The bass on the title track alone with make your bowels quiver. Mark Bell is also the mastermind behind the hair raising beat programming on bjork's essential Homogenic. This is a must have for any fan of electronic music.
LFO - An Experiment in Bass.......2002-04-03
LFO's album Frequencies is really and experiment in bass. Every track on the record has a deep electronic bass theme in the songs. This is probably the most bass driven album I have ever heard. When the album was released it came with a warring that Tommy Boy the bands label was not responsible for speaker damage resulting from the playback of the record.
The music is much like Kraftwerk and other artists that have pioneered the hypnotic groove of electronic music. Mark Bell a member of this two man group when on to produce Depeche Mode's Exciter album released in 2001. Ironically the album is dedicated to Depeche Mode, Brain Eno, Tangerine Dream and Karftwerk. If you enjoy these types of Artists then this album is for you.
