About the Artist
Joe McDermott is a national recording artist based in Austin, Texas. Shortly after graduating with a fine arts degree from the University of Texas, Joe was hired as a preschool art teacher and eventually become the director of a Montessori school. Since childhood Joe has possessed a notable talent for music. He learned to play the drums as a child, and the guitar in his teens. It was while teaching that Joe realized that children were an unending source of inspiration for songwriting. His first children’s recording was a tape he and the school children recorded as a Christmas gift for the parents. Since then, he has written and released five children’s recordings. His first nationally distributed CD entitled, I Am Baby, won a Parent’s Choice Recommended Honor and his 2001 national release, Great Big World, won the esteemed Parents’ Choice Award Silver Honor. Parents who have seen Joe perform often note his ability to appeal to adult sensibilities, as well as! their childrens’.

My 1 year old loves this cd! It is the only one that makes him stop crying on long trips. I highly recommend Joe McDermott CDs.

Recently we were lucky enough to see Joe Mcdermott perform at our city library (promoting the summer reading program) and it was wonderful! Extremely entertaining for the children (and me too!) and not at all irritating for the parents or teachers. A double plus!

Super stuff that is smart for kids and parents too. We took a leap of faith and were not disappointed. Very appropriate and very fun.

Like the other review, XM is truly a great place to hear kids music (unlike the Disney channel which is a little too irreverent). Anyway, we've heard some really great music on their Kids channel.

Bounce,Bounce, Bounce!.......2004-02-24

We noticed "Baby Kangaroo" on XM Radio and my daughters can not get enough!! This tune is one of the funniest things I've heard for children's music. We ordered Everywhere You Go from Amazon and were glad to hear that the rest of the CD is as good as "Baby Kangaroo". The songs have a positive message that children need to hear while the lyrics and music are entertaining so the children never lose interest. The other childrens CD's are intolerable after a few listens but we never get tired of this one. Joe McDermott is the best!!

Super collection of Elgar's major works.......2004-06-28

Most compilations of composers works usually only feature, at best, maybe one or two works in recordings that are of outstanding quality, especially if different artists are featured. Such is absolutely not the case with this collection, one of the finest of its sort ever issued.

This box makes a perfect one stop shopping choice for the major, most-well-known works the British composer Sir Edward Elgar. The title is misleading though. The box, on 8 CDs at an incredible price, contains both Orchestral AND Choral works.

Y'know how people use other singers to describe someone's musical style? They'll say, "She sounds like Sheryl Crow or Sarah McLachlan or Jewel." Well, believe me when I tell you: in a couple of years, they'll be saying, "Yeah, she sounds like Mara."

This young songwriter has captured a style and energy all her own. With a range of music covering a wide spectrum of emotions and introspections, it's hard to believe this is only Mara's first album. I can't begin to imagine how good her third or sixth or tenth album will be!

Her music runs the gamut from straight rock and roll to moody hard-edge, and from love songs to haunting ballads. She's got some interesting perspectives on herself and on society in general. And it's all wrapped up in an amazing voice and a wonderful assortment of rich instrumentals.

Who does she sound like? She sounds like Mara. And one day soon, that's going to be what people say about other new young artists. Get in on the ground floor on this one, folks. You'll be glad you did.

Tired of cookie-cutter bubblegum psuedo-R&B pop rock, but still want tunes you can dance to? Try Mara's "It's Who I Am" on for size. A self-taught guitarist with a kick-[behind] power-ballad voice, Mara's music is honest, interesting, and infectious. Try listening to the CD once and not find yourself humming the refrain from "Blue Guitar Rock Star," or not knowing _exactly_ who you wish you had sung "No Apology" to. This is the kind of CD you'll want to keep in rotation for a long, long time. . .I know I do!

nice acoustics.......2000-10-25

These guys are really awesome. I enjoy listening to the acoustics becuase they are smooth and relaxing. Great for background music because it's not very loud and disturbing. This is a great song because you can hear the guys harmonizing which sounds really good and you can tell that these guys were just made to be in a band together.
