Editorial Reviews
Robert Feder, Chicago Sun Times Critic (Nov. 3-99 page 61) "Jim Nayder, the supremely sardonic host of public radio's "The Annoying Music Show" on NPR serves up 23 "greatest hits" of the world's worst songs on "The Annoying Music Show CD." You haven't lived until you've heard Abdala Bucaram, deposed president, sing "jailhouse Rock" or Sweden's "Singin' Sensation" Eilart Pilarm ruin "All Shook Up"
Product Description

Whether it's Pa Cartwright crooning "As Time Goes By" as a Bosa Nova, or Abdala Bucaram (the deposed President of Ecuador's) tribute to Elvis, this CD is the perfect gift for a blissfully unaware loved one, lousy boss, or ex-spouse. It's like the unwanted guest who wouldn't leave!.......2003-12-12
Annoying, really........2003-07-18
I laughed, I cried, I kissed 15 bucks goodbye..........2002-09-05
What a load of exquisite rubbish! The standouts are the hilarious "My Bathroom is a Private Kind Of Place" and the tortuous "Why Doesn't Daddy Come Home?" which fried at least ten percent of my brain cells and spoiled all the food in my refrigerator. It's all oddly compelling, like a bad car wreck--you know it's horrible, but you just can't turn away. It's evil, it's wretched, it's awful, it's practically apocalyptic...and I loved it.
Half of my hearing is gone from listening to way too much loud music in my misspent youth. While listening to this CD, there were moments when I wished it were ALL gone. You will too. Whether you know it or not, you NEED this CD.
WOW! Holiday Shopping Finally UN-Annoying!.......2001-11-05
seems to begin earlier and earlier. But believe it or not, I've
just about completed my list, and I never had to leave the house (in fact, leave my bedroom). Finding the stunning NPR Radio show's Annoying Music CD, which I've enjoyed (perhaps survived is a better word?), on amazon was a God-send, and I'm an agnostic.
The music(?) on this CD is so horribly beautiful, it makes you laugh till you are tearing up like a tired cat. Simply, I ordered annoying CDS . . . and now have great, funny presents for my co-workers, my nephew, 4 friends around the world, my brother, and a former boss I really don't like (he has NO sense of humor!)
And honoring my right to be lazy, I had them giftwrapped at amazon by the amazon elves, or elvises?
And to mix up the annoying gifts-I also found the Annoying Music HOLIDAY CD here at amazon, which will also take care of a couple of December birthdays, not to mention Hanukkah and Christmas, &
obscure holidays I have never heard of ("Christopher Columbus
Discovers DISCO?") And you have not lived a complete life until you've heard the Chutte Middle School Orchestra's version o MacArthur Park. For 10 minutes, they are so close to hitting the right notes, in-between drum solos and parents cheering wildly, that I thought I had been transported into a David Lynch movie. You couldn't recreate this music (not that you would want to!) as it is as complicated and annoying as setting a VCR, or opening the celophane wrap on a new CD. And to be honest, I bought the Annoying Music CDs for myself, as I might want help clearing my home of guests, when those folks on eggnog just won't leave. Now, I wonder if amazon sells earplugs?
Equally annoying to British people.......2001-08-19
Was it worth the effort? No. This CD is horrible. It's ghastly; it sets my teeth on edge. I've coped with Negativland and even Florence Foster Jenkins, but this is the absolute pits.
Nonetheless, it's strangely compelling. When I hear it, my brain melts down. A while later, I have to listen again to remind myself how truly annoying it is.
How about a deal - I give the CD five stars, and Jim Nayder promises never to do it again?

You Love this Or Hate it!.......2007-02-04
THIS CD IS SPIRITUALLY BEAUTIFUL IN ITS HORRIFYINGNESSES!.......2004-05-23
I love music.
In my lifetime I have literally listened to more than 66,000 hours of records, CDs, 8-Tracks, mp3's and live venues. Some music of course--better than others--and a very few albums that I treasure and wish to have buried along side me. "The Annoying Music Show Holiday CD!" is such a CD. All of us have a moment of clarity in our lives, a millie-second of bright light & universal understanding of human & animals alike. My moment came during track #17, with the beautifully voiced child attempting to sing "Where Would We Be Without String?"
Such a simple yet profound title & song!
It gave me pause. Pause to ponder and pause to find my most recent medications.
Who is this Jim Nayder that finds such unique music and archives it for all ages & germinations to experience? Is he man, woman, beast, anti-Christ, Glenda-The Good Witch or perhaps a Donald Rumsfeld, taking full responsibility and yet suffering no consequences?
Or is Jim Nayder a simple human like all of us, yet able to distinguish that which is pure music solace, much like a Bat's inner radar could duck it under a boomerang?
Since purchasing this annoying CD, I have been happier, kinder
to strangers & loved ones and able to cry violently at the drop
of a safety pin. No other musical vehicle has affected me or even effected me, to this level of emotion.
Had I not listened to this CD, my life would have been much less a life, more perhaps a walk in the Black Forest at night during a lunar eclipse.
Now, as tears fill my eyes, I urge you in the strongest of terms,to get this CD, and LISTEN to its mysterious musical
lessons ASAP! Your so-called life will immediately be transformed into a light so bright, even God Almighty will need
sunglasses.
Annoying overkill.......2004-01-07
I do understand that this music is SUPPOSED to be annoying, and it definitely is, but that still does not make the CD good. Do not attempt to listen to the entire disc in one sitting, or maybe just save your money and take the small doses of annoying music given out for free on the radio once a week.
God in his infinite wisdom, put Jim Nayder on this Earth.......2003-12-06
Perfect Gift For Mammy & Pappy!.......2001-03-22

This Will Make You Wish For The Melodious Crooning Of William Shatner..........2007-05-27
I was quite impressed by Sid Vicious' version of "My Way," the peculiar Finnish version of "Beds are Burning" by Elakelaiset, and the extremely amusing version of "In the Ghetto" by Swedish Elvis impersonator, Eilert Pilarm (who neither looks nor sounds in any way like Elvis). As impressive as these tracks are, though, my favorite track was "Bacteria," apparently a training song from Kentucky Fried Chicken; it is appropriately followed with the delightful "I Want to Vomit On You" by The Bird Flu Boys. This dynamic duo of song packs a wallop.
Less sublime, though still worthy of your attention is "The Glaucoma Hymn" by the Glaucoma Medical Symposia (!) and a truly stunning composition called "The Snow Creature" that is a study in rhythm impairment.
On the negative side, there are some songs that aren't merely annoying, but are insufferable. Far and away the least endurable song on the CD (possibly the hardest song to listen to that I have ever heard) is "Over the Rainbow," a song that never, ever needed to be remade, and especially not by somebody named "Young Rick." I also found the two Beatles covers on the CD to be sub par and boring, while the cover of "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" by Walter Brennan was unnecessary and irritating (though nowhere near as irritating as "Surrey With the Fringe On Top" by Marlene Dietrich).
In a final column (that I simply label "Why?") in the accounting of this CD is "Too Much Tissue," the only song I have ever heard that specifically concerns the subject of post nasal drip. Enough said.
While I didn't enjoy all of the music, I did enjoy the humorous introduction by Suze Orman, and some of the other interjections from Jim Nayder and Ken Nordine. For people entertained by comically bad music, this is a golden disc, and I recommend it and others in the series.
