This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

An Album That Defines An Era.......2007-03-30

The year was 1996, Urban R&B and Hip Hop had really gone from being in the backround with Gangsta Rap and New Jack Swing to the top of the mainstream charts with a more commercial sound that appealed for a broader audience. Blackstreet, Mary J Blige, Fugees, R. Kelly and Puff Daddy. Aaliyah was 17 at the time and almost about to graduate from highschool. She already had one album in her bag "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" produced and written by R. Kelly that she also ended up marrying, but since she was underage the marraige was shortly annuled and they both went seperate ways. On Aaliyah's second album titled "One In A Million" she teamed up with a bunch of diffrent producers, which was quite rare at the time. Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins and the completely unknown producer Timothy Mosley, better known as Timbaland. Mosley had previously worked with Missy Elliott's band "Sista" but with limited resources and not much success. He and Missy (who hadn't released her debut album yet) teamed up together and wrote/produced 7 of the songs of Aaliyah's second album. The result would be revolutionary and differ from anything that was on the radio at the time. Timbaland created a unique sound that would take R&B closer to mainstream with "stuttering bass-heavy bounce beats offset resounding high-end synth stabs" and often making cameos on his productions but no sampling, everything was created by himself. All this was known simply as the "Timbaland Sound" and 10 years later he would not only be a super-producer but the greatest procucer of his generation. Aaliyah had also matured, at only 17 she sound much older and experienced and she's was now a complete singer that can stand on her own feet and the overall result is a more satisfying effort then her debut. It's also fulpacked with hits, apart from the wonderful title track produced by Timbaland, he also produced the hits "Hot Like Fire", "If Your Girl Only Knew" and "4 Page Letter". A Diane Warren penned ballad called "The One I Gave My Heart To" reached top 10 on the charts. Other then that, we'll also find some fine remakes, like Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" with old skool rapper Slick Rick and Isley Brothers "Choosey Lover", later used by R.Kelly and Nas for a remix for "Street Dreams" and Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkin's "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" and Dupri's "I Gotcha Back". Intro and Outro included you get 17 songs of class and depth, and that is more then anyone could ask for, especially from someone so young. "One in A Million" is equally good as her third eponymous album and should end up in any music fan's collection. Sadly Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001 and the music world lost one of the most talented, beautiful and charismatic singers and I often wonder what she would have amount to in the future, it really looked so bright for her. Looking back 10 years in time I can clearly say that this album was something above the ordinary. R&B came closer to mainstream music, production was starting to have a bigger impact in music and Aaliyah made the best R&B album of the year together with Ginuwine's "The Bachelor" that was produced by...You know who.

I can't give a positive review about this product, because I never received it. They not only sent it to the wrong address even after I emailed them and told them about it, I couldn't get a refund either. I didn't receive it on time for Christmas, and to make matters worse, I have to find this CD elsewhere because I NEVER RECEIVED IT AND COULDN'T GET A REFUND!!!!

Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03

This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?

Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11

Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.

Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).

Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".

It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.

But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.

It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!

Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31

Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.

However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.

However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.

Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."

Man I had to buy this cd because anyone that was a teen in the 90's will remember every one of these tracks from when dancehall was blowing up. I can name at least 5 other songs with the same riddim and thats what dancehall was about back then..Remember when they played one riddim and then dropped 7 different tracks? sanchez was my favorite singer..he soothes me and ive been playing the LIFE outta this cd...I wish that tune around the corner was on this track because that was beautiful but to be honest i love it all.

My favorite CD.......2004-09-23

I love this CD! Sanchez's voice calms me down after a rough day. However, there are some songs that I would have included on this CD, such as Call Me on the Phone, Stuck on You and Hands of Time. I like Beres and Wayne Wonder, but Sanchez is in a category of his own. This is a CD that I can put on and track after track makes me smile.

Sanchez is no Beres. Sanchez sometimes sings to a whole different beat, octave, sound than the record is playing. I like the album and all, but come on star, comparing to BERES? Cho! Dat a just foolish business. Beres is a true entertainer. He writes and produces (original) music. Doesn't cover the latest R&B trend and turns down awards if he feels pigeon hold into a category he doesn't belong. His "music is life." Big it up!

An Album That Defines An Era.......2007-03-30

The year was 1996, Urban R&B and Hip Hop had really gone from being in the backround with Gangsta Rap and New Jack Swing to the top of the mainstream charts with a more commercial sound that appealed for a broader audience. Blackstreet, Mary J Blige, Fugees, R. Kelly and Puff Daddy. Aaliyah was 17 at the time and almost about to graduate from highschool. She already had one album in her bag "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" produced and written by R. Kelly that she also ended up marrying, but since she was underage the marraige was shortly annuled and they both went seperate ways. On Aaliyah's second album titled "One In A Million" she teamed up with a bunch of diffrent producers, which was quite rare at the time. Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins and the completely unknown producer Timothy Mosley, better known as Timbaland. Mosley had previously worked with Missy Elliott's band "Sista" but with limited resources and not much success. He and Missy (who hadn't released her debut album yet) teamed up together and wrote/produced 7 of the songs of Aaliyah's second album. The result would be revolutionary and differ from anything that was on the radio at the time. Timbaland created a unique sound that would take R&B closer to mainstream with "stuttering bass-heavy bounce beats offset resounding high-end synth stabs" and often making cameos on his productions but no sampling, everything was created by himself. All this was known simply as the "Timbaland Sound" and 10 years later he would not only be a super-producer but the greatest procucer of his generation. Aaliyah had also matured, at only 17 she sound much older and experienced and she's was now a complete singer that can stand on her own feet and the overall result is a more satisfying effort then her debut. It's also fulpacked with hits, apart from the wonderful title track produced by Timbaland, he also produced the hits "Hot Like Fire", "If Your Girl Only Knew" and "4 Page Letter". A Diane Warren penned ballad called "The One I Gave My Heart To" reached top 10 on the charts. Other then that, we'll also find some fine remakes, like Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" with old skool rapper Slick Rick and Isley Brothers "Choosey Lover", later used by R.Kelly and Nas for a remix for "Street Dreams" and Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkin's "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" and Dupri's "I Gotcha Back". Intro and Outro included you get 17 songs of class and depth, and that is more then anyone could ask for, especially from someone so young. "One in A Million" is equally good as her third eponymous album and should end up in any music fan's collection. Sadly Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001 and the music world lost one of the most talented, beautiful and charismatic singers and I often wonder what she would have amount to in the future, it really looked so bright for her. Looking back 10 years in time I can clearly say that this album was something above the ordinary. R&B came closer to mainstream music, production was starting to have a bigger impact in music and Aaliyah made the best R&B album of the year together with Ginuwine's "The Bachelor" that was produced by...You know who.

I can't give a positive review about this product, because I never received it. They not only sent it to the wrong address even after I emailed them and told them about it, I couldn't get a refund either. I didn't receive it on time for Christmas, and to make matters worse, I have to find this CD elsewhere because I NEVER RECEIVED IT AND COULDN'T GET A REFUND!!!!

The Blueprint for Modern R&B : An Underrated Masterpiece.......2007-05-02

First of all, let me just say that this my favorite R&B Record of all Time. Nothing else even comes close. Aaliyah did with this one album what generations of women after her have tried and failed (Ashanti, Tweet, Amerie, even Lauryn Hill to an extent) - and not even Aaliyah could top this album in her later career.

Note that this album was the first album to ever feature Missy Elliot and Timbaland, and its because of this CD that they were even noticed by the music industry. Credit Aaliyah for that.

We're talking music history here, so please take the time to go through this review in detail.

As an RnB teen star, Aaliyah is, or at least was, a more intruiging proposition than the other light-skinned, thin-voiced females who pose for men's magazines and sing hooks for young men more prone to enthusiastic bursts of offputting elitism than actually making good music. But just why is unclear and difficult to articulate. She may have possessed a slightly superior voice than her (more popular, until her immortalisation due to a tragic death) successors and contemporaries, but her beats-orientated songs rarely proved testament to this fact (exception: "At Your Best"- see her first album). She is often said to have had an intangible air of mystique and intruige- she rarely shed clothing in her videos (exception#2: "We Need A Resolution"), and this seeming modesty, coupled with an uncommonly mesmerising charisma and the moody, Timbaland-led production infused in her last two records, is perhaps why. Or maybe it's just the unshakeable R Kelly (commercial RnB's sinister answer to the Pied Piper) rumour and her premature death.

Either way, if you're looking for a rarely demanding, enjoyable slice of millenial RnB, look no further. This will please the MTV crowd and more discerning listeners simultaneously. As long as you don't go in expecting a Miseducation-style sonic revelation, you won't go far wrong.

"One In A Million", Aaliyah AKA Babygirl's sophomore effort, begins not with the titular chanteuse's vocals, but with "Beats for da Streets", a track rapped by Missy Elliott, at this stage a behind-the-scenes entity and not the rump-shaking, unlikely but loveable icon of 2003. This is highly appropriate (as is the fact that, in her own intro, Aaliyah is reduced to bit-part singing about beats). Once "One in A Million" is over, you'll have enjoyed some songs and skipped others, but you will not have got a feel of what Aaliyah is capable of or truly about, who she is as an artist. You will, however, be hugely familiar with the preoccupations, talents, and scope of the star's producers. The songs are frequently structured around the admittedly stellar production as opposed to the lyrics and vocals. Indeed, such considerations often feel like afterthoughts: the non-Beyonce components of Destiny's Child, the other parts of Assifer Lopass (you mean there are other parts!?!). Aaliyah is her producer's sidekick, and not vice versa (as it arguably should be). However, the production is so seductive it's doubtful you'll care.

The first 'proper' song on "One In A Million" is "Hot Like Fire" (2.5/5), a catchy but meaningless piece of fluff, again notable only for the production. The more famous remix is better.

Next up is the mid-tempo "One In A Million" (4/5)- often said to be the ultimate Aaliyah song, though at first I found it mediocre. I didn't understand the hype until I heard it on big, bassy speakers: and, miraculously, it transformed, Cinderella like, before my ears. Her voice suddenly sounded richer, the beats more vital. The plain Jane became the belle of the ball. I think I've wasted this somewhat redundant metaphor, and so will swiftly move on :D. Anthemic.

Fourth is "A Girl Like You" (4/5). Despite the presence of a generic, utterly irritating rapper, her voice is sweet and likeable, the chanty chorus addictive, and the production expertly smooth and langorous. Ignore the annoying rap intro and discover one of the most listenable songs on the album. It also changes as it progresses. One for the repeat button.

Fifth is "If Your Girl Only Knew" (4/5), another of the many singles from the album, the others being "Hot Like Fire (remix)"; "One In A Million"; "4 Page Letter"; "Got To Give It Up" and "One I Gave My Heart To". Backed by a kickier beat than the last few songs, this sassy but contained little number again doesn't get stale, has a great beat, and is very addictive.

"Choosey Lover (Old School/New School" (4/5) is the next track. The song has the virtue of neat but obvious gimmick- the first half is produced like a Toni Braxton power ballad, complete with histrionic guitar solo, and the second half is backed by an altogether more slinky hip hop beat. Expanding on the sound of the previous tracks yet retaining the winning formula, this is less addictive, perhaps due to the six minute running time. It has the virtue of both parts working (though oddly I personally prefer the first section despite the awesome but redundant beat of the second. Good and clever, but too repetitive- you are SICK of the simplistic chorus by the end of it. Outstays it's welcome.

The single and Marvin Gaye cover "Got To Give It Up" (3/5) is next, and despite having quite possibly one of the most cringeworthy rap lyrics this side of P-Diddy ("Like everyone was chasin' my fine a*s; but when Aaliyah walked in the whole place went bananas"- um, there's a reason they're called 'RHYMES', fellas), this is pretty mediocre despite Aaliyah putting in a good vocal. Ironically, considering this is the designated 'par-tay' track, it's a bit wet and too mid-tempo. The production is also pretty generic in the context of the tracks surrounding it. Gets old fast.

Like "One In A Million", I didn't understand why "4 Page Letter" (4/5), a seemingly bland effort had been chosen as a single when I first heard it. Big, bassy speakers sang back the answer. The production, with the haunting, synthesised 'vocal' at the end. However, it's a bit too similar to "One In A Million" and once again relies more on production gimmicks than vocals and lyrics.

"Everything's Gonna Be Alright" (2/5) is enjoyable when I listen to it, but as I type, having heard it about five seconds ago, I genuinely can't remember it. Doesn't stand out and has inane lyrics, but is more up-tempo than the other songs. I'm listening to it again and it DOES sound good, just bland. Again, gets old quick and screams filler.

The same can be said of "Givin' You More" (2/5) and "I Gotcha' Back". Both sound nice, but simply don't stand out, or keep interest for more than a minute. It's boring, redundant background music- too much chorus, not enough, song.

The sensual "Never Givin' Up" (4/5) is better. Aaliyah's vocals SHOULD shine on this, but don't for three reasons. Firstly, her guest singer is better than her, or at least sounds it on this. Secondly, she still isn't changing her range- her voice still stays the same as it has in the past songs- it works, but it gets dull. Thirdly, when she actually DOES go for it on this song about three quarters of the way through, breaking away from her normally very reserved vocals and warbling Mariah style, she simply doesn't sound all that. It's not that her voice is bad, it's just that she's clearly used to singing a certain way, and isn't yet trained for a more melodramatic approach.

"Heartbroken" (2/5) again sounds nice, and her vocals are allowed to shine more than usual, but the song itself is forgettable in the long term.

"Never Comin' Back" (2.5/5), a faux live track, is better, but not good enough. The beat, despite the mediocrity of the song, feels a little too `experimental' to be listenable.

"Ladies In The House" (3.5/5) features lovely, laid back production and is catchy and quite addictive, but by this point in the album a set formula is all too clear, and so the listener begins to feel dj vu ever so slightly.

"One I Gave My Heart To" (2.5/5) is the sort of song I normally LOATHE- trite, unspectacular production (one of the few songs clearly NOT produced by Timbaland and crew), but on this album it actually stands out as it sounds so different from everything around it. It's also without a doubt Aaliyah's best vocal performance on the album, making it better than it should be. Had this been sung by, say, Beyonce Knowles, or Christina Aguilera, they would have overdone it with superfluous warbling and unnecessary stressing of every other syllable. Aaliyah, however, puts in an admirably assured performance, proving she genuinely does have the talent- it's just the type of music she's gone with, good as it is, doesn't show it off to it's full extent.

And so, after an unmemorable outro, "Came To Give Love", "One In A Million" is over. I've used several words quite a lot over the course of this review, and they pretty much sum up the album: addictive; listenable; samey; great production; inhibited vocals. The main problem is simply a lack of variety- this is corrected on the less fatty, superior follow-up "Aaliyah". While not one song when individually picked out is bad, only one song vastly stands out from the rest (One I Gave My Heart To)- and it's not a particularly good song. While Aaliyah's sweet but sultry vocals, and Timbaland's ultra smooth production, is the perfect marriage in relaxed chic, this admittedly effective formula allows neither to show what they are fully capable of. Aaliyah herself cannot do anything other than sing-by-numbers until she is released from his production. Equally, Timbaland never goes all out and produces the hot club track he is capable of on this album, seemingly wanting to keep to an overall "feel" of mid-tempo chilled grooves. Don't expect variety.

This is a great album to play while hanging out with friends; as a pre-night-out singalong or a post-night-out relax; or for going to sleep. However, don't expect any ear catching, vital, shake-that-a*s standouts like "We Need A Resolution" or "Try Again", or shimmering ballads like "I Refuse" or "At Your Best" (with the possible exception of "One In A Million"). Just gloriously, if rather numbingly by the time it comes to an end, calm and confident RnB. If you're looking for an Aaliyah album, buy her eponymous follow up first- it's perhaps less consistent, but when it's good, it's better than this. If you're looking for some commercial RnB, this is definitely one of the more sophisticated offerings from that most plastic of genres. However, this is good only because of how it sounds- the lyrics are average at best in terms of commercial fare, and poor in comparison to more demanding "urban" genres like neo-soul or underground hip-hop. Overall though, solid and recommended.

A Timeless Classic, this album is the Blueprint for our Entire Generation of Hip-Hop/R&B Artists - get this original and be blown away. More than a decade after its' first release, this still is just as amazing!

This Gremany 2004 re-release of Aaliyah 2nd album "One in a million" Is a RIP OFF. It is copy protected which means I can't put it onto my I Pod. I Sofa King Hate That! If I wanted a way to own this album without being able to transfer it onto my I Pod, I would have purchased the US Cassette edition. Music piracy is wrong but so is copy protection. STOP COPY PROTECTION RIP AALIYAH

the REAL princess of hip hop and R&B.......2006-03-17

The one and only returns on this sophomore set minus R. Kelly (we all know why), sporting a new sound via Timbaland and Missy Elliott and a more mature image.

Gone is the "street but sweet" girlie girl who sang of love and life beyond her 15 years on debut LP "Age Ain't Nuthin' But a Number."

On followup "One in a Million," Aaliyah's song is that of a woman, lending smooth vocals to the sometimes bouncy, pulsating and hypnotic "If Your Girl Only Knew" and title track (Your Love is)"One in a Million."

Her standout love ballad, perhaps the biggest of her career, was "The One I Gave My Heart To."

And I don't know an around the way girl who didn't think "4 Page Letter" circa late 1996-early 1997 wasn't THE female anthem at the time.

Aaliyah's forthcoming album "Aaliyah" (2001) blew up for a variety of reasons, but I think hardcore Aaliyah fans will always hold onto this LP as vintage Aaliyah -- her best stuff.

Aaliyah had a charm, a beauty and a spirit all her own.

Like Mary J. Blige in the hip hop community, Aaliyah was a true entertainer and innovated a new sound.

She continues to occupy a lane that e'erybody's still try'na get all up in (Ciara, anyone?).

A Very Worthy Re-Issue.......2004-10-14

"One In A Million" originally released by Aaliyah in 1996 when she was a mere 17 or 18 years old was a very mature album for someone who was still a teenager. The 2004 reissue of this album is a nice tribute to the fallen R&B songstress. "One In A Million" had several popular radio hits including, "4 Page Letter," the title track "One In A Million," the first single, "If Your Girl Only Knew," "The One I Gave My Heart To," and the song "Hot Like Fire." Videos were released for all of these songs hopefully all of Aaliyahs videos will also make it to DVD one day. Some of the great songs on the album including "Choosey Lover," Part 1 and 2, "Never Giving Up," and the outro track "Came To Give Love," this album was also the first time Aaliyah teamed up with Missy and Timbaland. This re-issue includes the 2003 hit song "Come Over" which features tank.

EPICS THAT DO NOT DISAPPOINT.......2007-05-14

WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA TO TAKE HOLLYWOOD'S COLLECTION OF HISTORICAL EPIC MOVIES, EXTRACT THE BEST PORTIONS OF THE SCORES AND COMBINE THEM FROM THE DAWN OF MAN TO THE RECENT PAST. I PARTICULARLY ENJOY THE SUITES FROM GLADIATOR, BRAVEHEART AND THE VIKING. THE REPRODUCTION OF THESE SCORES BY THE CITY OF PRAGUE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS IS BRILLIANT, AND THE RECORDING WAS EXCELLENT. I ONLY WISH THERE WERE EIGHT DISCS INSTEAD OF FOUR TO COVER THE VOLUMES OF SCORES THAT COULD NOT BE INCLUDED. LET'S HOPE FOR A VOLUME II.

This compiiation album makes an excellent gift for that person wanting to discover great, epic scores. I'm surprised, however, that Vangelis' Alexander is included in this one. Not bad, just surprised.

The reason I give this album 4 out of 5 stars is because of the swashbuckler section. How is it that CutThroat Island - one of the greatest epics in history - was scrubbed out of the list? Pirates of the Caribbean is included on the selection but nothing from Debney's masterpiece?!

Yes, that is a huge compilant. If you haven't discovered CutThroat Island, I suggest you get it then you'll understand my frustration. Still, this album is a great buy and worth looking into!

finally a bosson alblum if only bosson can really read this i saw him in concert at wango tango about 2000 0r d2001 year. he was cute as ever live and expectional vocals i instantly bought the we live single and still remains as one of my top ten singles of all time . i remember him performing and saying it was his first time in the united states and brought his own video camera to show the performance back home. i'd say you can't go wrong he can really sing this alblum is definetly worth it .

The main reason to purchase this disc, is the brilliant Soul Solution remix of "The One I Gave My Heart To". Soul Solution (the team who remixed Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart" with Hex Hector) have a knack for taking Top 40 tracks and turning them into bumpin' club anthems. This is one of their best. The remixes of "One In A Million" are alright - but have nowhere near the power that the Soul Solution mix of "The One I Gave My Heart To" does.

As a young teenager, I can relate to her song. Although I try to refrain myself from getting all caught up with the "True Love" stuff, You can't help but at least once giving your heart to someone special. There is such a thing as true love, but if you believe your true love is everyone then you need to wake up. I did give my heart to someone but we're not together anymore. I felt so alone, and depressed. I replayed the song over and over again. And of course the first time I heard it, I cried. But even though I'm okay I still love the song and still listen to it. Thank you Aaliyah for singing songs that really happen.

I love Aaliyah song because it brings out alot of facts. Many of us women today go through alot of heartaches and pain. I gave my heart to someone and he treated like trash. Aaliyah I heard this song and it made me want to cry, but I got over him although he's my baby father.
