Stanley Kubrick's demanding perfectionism in all aspects of the filmmaking process has led to some of the most memorable soundtracks of the modern era. Kubrick's taste for the classics led to his scrapping Alex North's original score for 2001: A Space Odyssey in lieu of the "temporary" tracks he had used for editing, turning Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra into an unlikely 20th-century pop icon. For his 1971 adaptation of Anthony Burgess's cautionary future-shocker, Kubrick once again turned to the classics. Malcolm McDowell's protagonist Droog Alex's taste for Beethoven is given a nice tweaking by Moog pioneer Walter (now Wendy) Carlos's synthesized take on the glorious Ninth Symphony. Some have complained that the now-primitive electronics involved give it a dated feel. Disturbingly--and effectively--other-worldly is more like it. Kubrick also imbues repertory standards by Rossini and Elgar with dark, frequently hilarious irony, and makes Gene Kelly's sunny reading of "Singin' In The Rain" the underscore to an all-too-accurate prediction of societal nightmares to come. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Prisoner 6 double-five 3-2-1.......2007-03-16

The soundtrack album of CLOCKWORK ORANGE, even with it's simple (and supposedly) outdated Wendy Carlos recordings, holds up far better than the actual film has over these 36 years. This story takes place in the 1990s, and we all know that today's world is nothing like Anthony Burgess' dismal and nightmarish vision . . . don't we?

Most of the CLOCKWORK ORANGE soundtrack's classical selections are by Herbert Von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic. These spirited Beethoven and Rossini interpretations remain some of the very best ever recorded.

The excerpt of Wendy's "Timesteps" is the most compelling piece here. In the film, this stark aural collage is background to Alex's behavior modification. In order to shorten his prison sentence, the violent sociopath is made chemically ill while forced to view scenes of rapine and bloodshed. His sickness can only be arrested by replacing his natural criminal urges with passive thoughts.

It's hard to listen to "Overture To The Sun" without recalling the spotlighted naked girl who tempts an on-exhibit Alex into a state of unwellness that he likens to "wanting to snuff it." His freedom to choose brutality has been taken from him forcefully, through violent reprogramming. The subsequent events that precipitate Alex's restoration into a fully non-functional member of society beset him in a fashion ironically similar to the chaos he once left in his violent wake.

The stark images and perversities of this movie tend to stay with a person. Perhaps watching Kubrick's CLOCKWORK ORANGE has in some way "programmed" the viewer, too, by desensitizing us to the madness that is all around. Maybe this film holds up better than I thought. I must have a glass of choko moloko and reconsider . . .

5 out of 5 stars Kubrick At His Best.......2007-01-11

This is a fantastic Kubrick movie. Based on a novel of equal respect, this movie details troubled youth, violence, and sex in a modern-yet-more-so world. The slang of the young men in the movie is a mixture of British and Russian slang terminology created by the book's author. A must-see for the Kubrick fan out there.

3 out of 5 stars Good soundtrack.......2006-02-20

I own this on vinyl and yes an exellent soundtrack from an exellent movie

4 out of 5 stars Easier to experience than the movie!.......2005-08-17

Having purchased this soundtrack along with its respective CD score (by Wendy Carlos), it is a wonderful installment to any soundtrack fan/buff. The awesome sound of classical music, contained in the CDs, in which director Stanley Kubrick chose for the picture, is so juxtaposing it is brilliant. Even if one does not know a lick of classical music, one can easily suggest this soundtrack as a useful introduction into the genre. Though the film may not be as easy to experience as the music contained inside, the soundtrack stands as a milestone for music in film perhaps only beaten by the director's previous work in '2001 A Space Odyssey'.

5 out of 5 stars Horrorshow Lomticks of Music to do the old Ultra-Violence By. .......2005-07-28

Bolshi Yarblockos, my droggies. Viddy thou this incredible soundtrack from the film A Clockwork Orange. Cued from the novel by Anthony Burgess, the musical selections mainly focus on the Beethoven obsession of the main character Alex, however Carlos's deep knowledge of the classical repetoire and Kubrick's neurotic perfectionism combine to fill out this album. I love most of the tracks here, and have listened to them since 1972.

My personal favorite is the title music of the film, Henry Purcell's "Funeral Music for Queen Mary," a piece so appropriate to the film that Purcell must have been channelling the future when he wrote it in the late 17th century. Carlos's interpretation of this Purcell piece is astounding in its forboding textures and alientating timbres. Electronic tympani have never sounded better - and were never used like this before. Ring modualtions, filter sweeps, phased sawtooth angel trumpets and resonate devil trombones - oh bliss!

I also liked the strange music Kubrick chose - "I want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper," and "Anthem to the Sun," both obscure and perfect.

Carlos's avant-garde composition "Timesteps" appears in abbreviated form here, and for most listeners this abridgement is enough.

The concluding ironic use of "Singing in the Rain," is wonderful, and after an album (and film) full of electronics, classical music, and weirdness, a standard is shocking enough.

There is a new version of the soundtrack put out by Carlos herself, which includes only her work. Some tracks composed but not used in the film appear here, as do some track used, but not appearing on the OST as well. Timesteps in its 13:37 form is also on this album.

For those fans of Prog rock: Viddy the film when Alex visits a record store: Notice the Vertigo swirl above the main desk, also in the wrecked foyer of Alex's highrise, one of the figures on the vandalised mural has "Suck it and see" written on it, also the name of a Vertigo music sampler of the same era.

5 out of 5 stars The beginning of a new sound in metal! + Bonus Tracks.......2007-07-19

Helloween's best album (together with part II) NOW EXPANDED, containing 3 mast-have Bonus Tracks and Remastered, providing an improved sound quality to the original relish of 1987.
The musical influences in this album range from Iron Maiden (Number Of The Beast - Powerslave era) to Queen, Rainbow and Queensryche which are fused together in a magnificent way and are not in any way a copy of the certain influence.

This band and especially Kai Hansen had an extraordinary talent and imagination to write most of the songs in the album. By combining the influences mentioned above together with very fast drumming, high pitched vocals, melodic and technical riffs with fabulous twin-guitar solos, Helloween achieved to lay the foundations for Power/Speed metal, as it is known today.

The album begins with an operatic marching type intro which sets successfully the mood of the album. The intro leads nicely into the fast paced "I'm Alive", which carries an optimistic message and includes a memorable chorus, fast drumming, raving guitar solos and twin-guitar reefs. The heavy "A Little Time" comes next with another catchy chorus and sound effects, while the vocals range from emotional low tone ones to high pitched screams. Onwards comes the metal ballad "A Tale that wasn't Right" to slow things down a bit, whose strongest points are the truly emotional vocals and the wonderfully played guitar solo. "Twilight Of The Gods" continues in the same vain as 'I'm Alive' but contains more thought-out lyrics, better vocals and a chorus that you'll never forget. "Future World" follows, which is the most famous of the tracks, a heavy metal anthem, played in mid-tempo, comprising of one of the best twin-guitar solos of the album and vocals varying from low tempo to really high-pitched. Next comes the true masterpiece of the album "Halloween", an operatic-fast-progressive-emotional power metal hymn raving over 13 minutes (which never gets long nor tiresome). All of those songs are still considered classics and for sure are some of the best and most epic power metal songs ever written (together with Eagle Fly Free, pt II).

But except the captivating music, a new charismatic vocalist that no one had hared of before, "Michael Kiske", joins the band to take this album to the skies! Influenced by Bruce Dickinson, Klaus Meine and Jeoff Tate but equipped with much more emotion and range, especially in the high pitched vocal lines, 18 year old Kiske makes this album a MUST HAVE for any metal and hard rock fan. (M.Kiske is still considered one of the best vocalists in the heavy metal genre)

Even if you are not a metal fan, this album will please you or even blow you away with the mythical and uplifting atmosphere it creates and the technically perfect orchestration it achieves. (Definitely check out Keeper Of The Seven Keys pt II!!)

Bonus Tracks: Victim Of Fate and Starlight are songs taken from the first Helloween EP remixed with Michael Kiske on vocals - two trully amazing reditions.

Will be loved by Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Queensryche, Rainbow...fans.
Just listen...you'll be amazed!

4 out of 5 stars Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. 1.......2007-01-06

One of Helloween's greatest works, the only reason it gets the 4 rating is because in my mind Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt.2 will always be the best.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Power Metal...Revisited.......2006-10-25

When you hear the term "power metal", or more specifically "European Power Metal", Helloween has to be one of the first bands that come to mind, largely due to the impact of this particular album (and its companion piece Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II). Both albums completely reestablished both the band's sound as well as the whole idea of what power metal was all about. This is due largely to Kai Hansen adopting a more epic approach to his songwriting (as opposed to the Judas Priest style thrashers on Walls of Jericho) as well as the addition of vocalist Michael Kiske, who brought a powerful yet melodic aspect to Helloween's sound.

I don't think the impact of the Keeper albums can be overstated. In the 2 decades since they were originally released, their sound has been adopted, adapted, and flat out imitated by countless bands. Without Helloween, there would be no Blind Guardian, no Rhapsody, no Edguy, at least not as we now know them.

That said, why on earth has it taken 20 freaking years to get remastered versions of the Keeper albums? In an age where even the most recent bands keep reissuing their albums, we had to go way to long without a sonically improved Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I. Well, Sanctuary finally got around to the job earlier this year, and they certainly did it right. In addition to digitally remastered sound (which is quite good despite what a previous reviewer would have you believe), you get 4 bonus tracks. The remixed/alternate/edited versions of existing songs don't add much, but adding the b-side Victim of Fate was a nice touch. You also get expanded liner notes, photos, etc. plus a nifty slipcase for the disc.

This is what a remastered version of a classic album is supposed to look and sound like. If you're already a Helloween fan, it's time to replace your old version. If you're a power metal fan and for whatever reason haven't heard Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I, you need to order this album now. It truly belongs in every power metal fan's collection.

4 out of 5 stars 5 for the music and maybe 3 for the non remastering!.......2006-10-11

This album was simply awesome when it was release. It was new and refreshing sounding compared to what was mostly out at that time.

Keeper of the Seven Keys, Part I has it all. You get the riff heavy HELLOWEEN, you get the ballad A Tale That Wasn't Right and in between you get Future World. The centerpiece though is the tune Halloween. This fourteen minute epic was their Rime of the Ancient Mariner in many ways. Defiantly long and meandering, the tune Halloween was a career making all you can eat buffet of riffs. Yup this was ground breaking stuff for these guys.

The bonus material found on here is average at best. The updated booklet is fun with lyrics and other stuff relating to the band which is very cool. The bonus music is a b-side, a single edit and some truly bad edited/shortened versions of the original tunes. The record company in their infinite wisdom back then decided that these guys needed more air play and decided to shorten some of these tunes to achieve this goal? Apparently this was done to give the band more exposure to the masses. Well they must have cut/edited out half of the songs parts. One listen to these edited for radio classic's will have you weeping as they have managed to totally kill the overall vibe of these songs.

I also found that this remaster doesn't sound as good as I had hoped it would? For the most part it doesn't stand out as far as being a major improvement over the original? It's louder and the bass is certainly more present in the overall mix now, which certainly is a bonus overall, however it still sounds to compressed. I was hoping this new remastered version would finally open up the sound and let the true sonic beauty of this classic shine through. Well in the end it really doesn't do that which is unfortunate.

Is it worth picking up you ask? Absolutely!! The tunes still kick butt and that's really all you need to know.

5 out of 5 stars A fabulous continuation of the first epic album + Bonus tracks.......2007-07-19

The second part of the groundbreaking Keeper Of The Seven Keys part I! NOW EXPANDED, containing 3 mast-have Bonus Tracks and Remastered, providing an improved sound quality to the original relish of 1988.
To be fair (without being influenced by the love and respect I have for this album) PartII wasn't as good as the first one, but nevertheless a record containing some of the best known power/speed metal songs ever written! The album continues with the same energy and structure of songs but with more ideas from guitarist Weikath and less of Kai Hansen and a slightly more commercial feel. All in all a wonderful conclusion to the first part.

"Eagle Fly Free" is considered the best power metal song ever written, comprising of dual guitar solos, perfect vocals,a bass and drum solo. "Dr. Stein" is a wonderful, melodic, funny(lyrics) and classic song. "March Of Time" is a technical, also melodic and strong power tune. "I Want Out" is a pop (catchy), heavy metal song that fulfills its purpose. "We Got The Right" is a strong power-ballad were Michael Kiske shines, delivering a breathtaking performance filled with melodic and high-pitched vocals. Finally the title track has some magnificent ideas but it sadly can't surpass the masterpiece "Halloween" of part I (the chorus is a little cheesy).

Musically the album is still characterized by fast double-bass drumming, twin-guitar melodic reefs and solos, outstanding vocals and fantasy lyrics-themes.
The production is slightly better than the first part, as the album sounds tighter and kind of clearer. The band sounds a bit tighter compared to their previous relish, but that maybe due to the better production.

Michael Kiske has surely glued in the band and his charismatic voice gives you the chills throughout the whole album (he sings higher than ever, hitting all possible notes with great precision)!

The only minor drawback in this album are the tracks "You Always Walk Alone" and "Rise and Fall" witch cannot by any means be considered bad songs, but just don't seem to fit here...And the other being that most of the song writing was done by Weikath, who is a exceptional songwriter and guitarist but not as good as Hansen.

This is a classic and groundbreaking record in the history shelves of metal, together with part I. A source of inspiration and influence to countless bands to follow.
This is also the last chapter in the Hansen - Helloween (80's) glorious era, from where onwards the band went downhill (in my opinion).

A MUST HAVE for any power/speed,heavy metal and open-minded hard rock fan.

Be sure to check out "Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I" and "I Want Out: Live".

Album Description

Contemporary, fun, educational and heartwarming, Milkshake's debut recording "Happy Songs" is a potpourri of activity songs, upbeat inspirational rock songs and lullabies released on Deck Party Music. Milkshake's original songs are based in the pop-rock genre, and influenced by both the years spent performing tuneful, melodic music in their rock band alter ego Love Riot, and the classic sounds of great groups like the Beatles.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable.......2006-08-05

One of my daughter's friends 'really' introduced us to Milkshake. I'm surprised we didn't put 2+2 together since we are ardent XM Kid listeners and they play a lot of songs from Milkshake. I guess for some reason we got them mixed up with Scribble Monster. Anyway, we realized that "Happy Songs" was their song and bought this CD and the newer one too.

Overall, the music is top notch. The girls dance to it and enjoy it. I like the newer CD the best, but this one is very good too.

4 out of 5 stars Fun for Kids and Parent's too.......2006-03-23

I'm not a fan of music for kids that parent's can't enjoy as well: case in point being anything by Barney. Milkshake is lots of fun. My kids (2, 5 and 7) always request "Scared" which they refer to as "the Scary song." I particularly enjoy "Goodnight Moon," and yes, it does reference the book. "Fingers & Toes" is lots of happy, peppy fun about hands and feet and counting! I highly recommend it for fun at home and in the car!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST- HAVE!.......2006-03-10

My daughter is addicted to both Milkshake albums and I recommend them both highly. Really fun lyrics with fanciful sound effects (birds tweeting, bells ringing, etc). I find that they are the first albums that I reach for as well. Lisa Mattthews has a "Sheryl Crowe"-like sound which is refreshingly contemporary for kids music.

5 out of 5 stars Come on along, buy some Happy Songs!!!.......2005-01-13

This album is the perfect mix for families. Notice I didn't say "for KIDS", I said for FAMILIES!! As an avid music listener, I was dreading having kids and having to listen to that purple dinosaur or other saccharine aural pacifiers, but Milkshake has saved my ears (halleluyah!). My 2.6 year old LOVES both albums and I enjoy listening to them too. Happy Songs is the perfect blend of hit songs (the title track has graced the XMKids Top Thirteen Under Thirteen for a good long time), silly songs (Anyone for some yummy critter fritters in "Breakfast Time"?) and good quality melodies that rival the likes of Jewel and Ani DiFranco. Do yourself and your kids a favor, buy both Milkshake CD's, force them to listen to them once through and you'll be chucking those dinosaur CD's out the window [ED: Author does NOT condone littering] in no time at all.

5 out of 5 stars Happy songs cd by Milkshake.......2004-11-04

I have both of Milkshake's cd's, Happy Songs and the new one, Bottle of Sunshine, and I love them. My four year old is constantly singing and dancing to them, and has been enjoying Milkshake since she was two. I, too, know all of the words to the songs, and enjoy listening to them (unlike some other children's music which is not as pleasing to the ears of parents). I highly recommend both cd's.

5 out of 5 stars It is a great CD.......2001-03-22

I get this item and I can say is great, if you really want to get an idea about the vienna boys choir's work, you have to get this, you can admire the soloist voice, Emanuel Cencic, he has an outstanding voice, principally the track "let the bright querubin" but in general is a great compilation, you can stop listening.

3 out of 5 stars Found it to lack real depth.......2000-01-12

The songs are nice and the music pleasant to listen to, but the titles are fairly short and there is something missing. I just didn't find it to be very moving, perhaps it's just the recording.

5 out of 5 stars John P. Cutler.......1999-12-29

This CD covers a wide range of music. The Vienna Boys Choir have done another great job. I believe this CD is a great choice, one that You will be happy with.

Album Description

Beginning their third decade of existence, Helloween are back to conquer the Power Metal world with simply one of the best releases in their career - the spellbinding Keeper Of The Seven Keys - The Legacy!

Having repeatedly reinvented themselves stylistically, without ever losing their trademark sound, is no easy feat. The musicians, Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitar), Markus Großkopf (bass), Sascha Gerstner (guitar) and new addition Dani Löble (drums, ex-Rawhead Rexx), see this latest recording in direct context with their 1987 and 1988 classics, consciously and confidently increasing the expectations of their fans of an doubtlessly unusual studio offering.

Beware - The Legacy!

Album Description

Not for the first time in the past 20 years, Helloween have proved courage and musical vision. Declared dead repeatedly by the critics, the German melodic metal act continue to be at the top of the international metal scene at the beginning of the third decade of their existence, having repeatedly reinvented themselves stylistically without ever losing their typical trademarks. The musicians, Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitar), Markus Grobkopf (bass), Sascha Gerstner (guitar) and new addition Dani Loble (drums, ex-Rawhead Rexx), see their latest recording, Keeper Of The Seven Keys, The Legacy, in direct context with their 1987 and 1988 classics, consciously and confidently increasing the expectations of their fans of an doubtless unusual studio offering. This limited edition double CD set is packaged in a digipak. LE. 2005.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Album of 2005.......2007-02-04

This album is very good; the songs are epic, the guitar melodies are very memorable, and the vocals are awesome. Some of the songs are structured like standard rock songs, while others are very long and more abstract. There is a lot of 'beautiful' music in the depths of those more epic songs, and each contains several distinct sections and musical ideas, while remaining a cohesive peice. Lots and lots of catchy and memorable vocal melodies. I was really impressed by this album and would say that there are basically no weak songs on here (Although 'Get it up' could benefit from less-cheesy lyrics perhaps). Standout tracks include 'King for 1000 Years', 'The Invisible Man', 'Come Alive', 'The Shade in the Shadows', as well as the single 'Light the Universe'. Definitley recommended.

3 out of 5 stars This Saddend Me.......2006-09-12

Okay After Kiske Left Helloween Was Never The Same (as Im Sure You Already Know) Now Don't Get Me Long I Like Deris but Sadly His Voice Changes Helloween.
Kiske: Helloween Sounded Smooth And Melodic With Catchy Tunes Like Future World, Save Us, I Want Out, Kids Of The Century, And So Many Others.
Deris: Helloween Sounds Heavy And Slower Than Before Deris Just Dont Have The Speed (He Tries on earlier CDs and it comes out pretty well examples of this are Power,Sole Survivor, We Burn, Steel Tormentor).

Now onto The CD (Which I Will Say Is A Sad Wauy Of cashing In On The Kepper's Saga And Unlike Mindcrime II is totally pointless)

2 Disc's Is Annoying But Ill Live

Disc 1

1. The King For A 1000 Years - Why Start Out With The Long One, Epic Atmosphere Slow And Sounds Like There Waking Up Groggy In The Morning
2. The Invisible Man - Dr. Stein II This Is Not, I Find It Insulting To The Classic Chacter By HG Wells Or Whoever it was that wrote the book, Pretty Flat.
3. Born On Judgement Day - (A Tribute To The People Of BRazil) I Just Failed To See The Poitn Of This Being on The Concept CD (It Is A Fine Helloween Song And Would Fit In Great On Any Other Album But I Assume This Is A Concpet Storyline Album)
4. Pleause Drone - See Above
5. Mrs. God - The CD gets A Little Better Here I Can See Why They made A Single of This However.
6. Silent Rain - Alright Song, Continues What Mrs. God Started

Disc 2

1. Occasion Avenue - The Best Song On The CD (Should Have Had A Different Name Because It Sounds Too Much 22 Aciana Aveune By Iron maiden)
2. Light The Univerese - You Think They Would Have Learned By Now That When They Expirment It Dont Really Go Over Well, Sad And Slow
3. Do You Know What Your Fighting For? - Should HAve Followed Up Track 1, More Ubeat And Faster
4. Come Alive - Short And Sweet Straight To The Point
5. The Shade In The Shadow - Little Longer But Keeps The CD Going
6. Get It Up - Odd Name But Fitting Lead Into The Lead
7. My Life For One more Day - The Only Thing This Song HAs Going For It Is The Storyline Of The Album

If They hadn't Slapped Keeper On The Front They Could Have Gotten Away With It being decent, also import it from germany seeing as the americian version is a digi and hoese a really fun to store

5 out of 5 stars WOW! glad I got back into Helloween........2006-06-25

I lost touch with Helloween after the Keeper part 2 album. But a couple of weeks ago I got a couple of the new remastered CDs from Helloween and today I got this CD and I'm glad I did. All I can say is if you liked Keeper 1 & 2 then you will like this CD. It has the same sound and feel as Keeper 1 & 2. The only thing I did not like about this CD was it's on 2 CDs. In total it runs about 79 minutes long and CDs can hold 80 minutes.

5 out of 5 stars hell yes..........2006-05-05

It seems that this album would be loved by almost every Helloween fan if it wasnt for the damned album title. This is one of the most solid power metal albums ive heard in a while. Very powerful, great production, and excellent songwriting make this album a hard one to take out of my CD player.

5 out of 5 stars Socially conscious and sonically profound.......2007-07-06

There's a lot of references to family on this record. They're not just talking about their own brotherhood, but that of the world. The title is a Biblical reference--and a moral dilemma. Are we our brothers' keepers? Listen to the music to hear this legendary group's answers. The music's heart wrenching and uplifting. Another great job by a legendary family that I'd call brothers of my heart.

5 out of 5 stars Our sons and daughters from New Orleans.......2005-09-04

It's the Saturday of the week of Hurricane Katrina. I was listening to the community radio station in Boulder/Denver last night, KGNU.org. And I heard the most stunning song, that I came to learn was "Sons and Daughters" from "Brother's Keeper."
I came to this site, and appreciated what the reviewer Tyler from Denver said about the song, how it's an "indictment of indifference to the rifts in society that could one day blow it apart."
It appears that day has arrived.
Thankfully we have artists like the Neville Brothers to help us through.
I'm looking forward to hearing this entire CD.

5 out of 5 stars Passes the test with flying colors.......2004-11-10

I test music purchases in a simple way. You hear 1 good song, think about buying, but too many things just have 1 good cut. 2 good songs, OK, maybe a good bet, worth a shot. 3 good songs, drop down your hard earned money. Any more than that, you better not wait it might go out of print. With Brother Blood, Sons & Daughters My Brothers Keeper, and the absolutely great Fearless, this is a must buy.

4 out of 5 stars Musically diverse, socially aware, spiritually alive.......2000-04-10

As the title suggests, "Brother's Keeper" mixes social awareness and messages of hope and tolerance with the Neville Brothers' usual eclectic collection of grooves. It's music that you can dance and sing to, but it also makes you aware that there's a world out there that isn't always pretty. And it urges the listener to get involved in that world.

The best example of socially aware funk is "Brother Jake," which laments the death of a character claimed by the streets. It rocks powerfully, with a gospel tinge, but there's nothing mindless about it. It's a strong portrait of a tough world that takes lives.

"Sons and Daughters" tiptoes toward rap. Charles Neville's powerful oration warns us not to forsake the young people, our lifeblood, whom he says are "being led to the slaughter." It's an indictment of indifference to the rifts in society that could one day blow it apart. At the end it strays from the spoken word, mixing in a spare, powerful guitar and Charles' voice rising toward song with the words, "You can't stop/running water/You can't hide/the fire that burns inside..."

There's also balladry that gives Aaron Neville a chance to display his unique sense of soul and his wonderful falsetto, in "Fearless." "Jah" delivers a reggae feel, and the title cut blends another testimony by Charles with the biblical admonition to "be my brother's keeper, though he be strong or weaker. I got to lend a helping hand."

For straight-ahead gospel, there's "Steer Me Right," which shows off the band's on-the-money harmonies and straight-from-the-gut emotion.

Listening to a Neville Brothers release is like dropping by on a warm Friday evening to hang out with a great group of friends who are never boring and who have a million ways to deliver a point. This is a neglected release, but it shouldn't be. Pick it up and enjoy a few grooves packed with a message.

4 out of 5 stars A Good CD With Many Genres Blended.......2006-07-01

The songs on this CD seem to have so many different genres blended together with added noises, that they sound very interesting and fresh. I highly recommend listening to the songs "Rain", "Heart Attack", "What Would Jesus Do?", and "Heart of the Matter". Those songs are my personal favorites. I look forward to listening to them again sometime soon! I think you could enjoy this CD very much; give it a try!

5 out of 5 stars I love Them.......2000-04-19

I love the CD. I attended one of their concerts, and then I HAD to buy the CD. It is a highly recomended album to buy.

5 out of 5 stars I'm blown away!.......2000-04-03

I bought this CD by accident, thinking I was getting SonicFlood, and I kept it on my shelf for 6 months before removing the cellophane.

The last 5 songs on this CD need to be heard by EVERYONE! I'm so mad I didn't listen to this stuff sooner. They are much more versatile than SonicFlood (Don't get me wrong, I LOVE sonicflood), in that they cover a wider base of genres of music...the song BROTHER'S KEEPER really moves me, and it's not just for Christians; it's for everyone. Just try it and see.

5 out of 5 stars Great album!.......2000-02-25

I enjoyed this album tremendously. It's become one of my favorites. Great voices with terrific arrangments of very fine songs.

5 out of 5 stars I love this cd....its so uplifting.......2000-01-26

this is my first christian cd i've ever bought...ive seen them live, they're just as smooth at a show. This cd was exellently produced, you can feel the holy spirit in their voices, especially the great harmonies.Every single song is uplifting, and they all can help get you in a great mood.I personally like "i saw heaven" and "heart attack" its about time a quality boy band sang for the lord.

4 out of 5 stars Absolute classic.......2005-01-29

This album surprised me. I didn't know what to think when I first saw it. I figured it would have the classic No Limit beats and productions. But, Kane & Abel have distinct vocals that set them apart from other rappers. You can tell they got that street credential..and they show it. The production on this cd blew my mind. They've got crazy flows and amazing cuts all throughout the album. Check out song number 6 with snoop dogg. This is one of the best bet layouts in any song. Plus, number 10 is one of the realest rap songs ever compiled. Kane & Abel come off harder on this track than I ever thought they could. I know gangsta rap, and this entire cd shocked me...for real. Be surprised at song number 4, a tupac remake from "2pacalypse now". When I herd that song, I knew Kane & Abel were for real. Get this album. Don't be embarassed to own a No Limit cd. A real rap fan will appreciate this album. Go get it!!!

4 out of 5 stars This CD is OK.......2003-09-27

I got almost all of No Limit's CD's, and this CD could have been a lot better. I love how these guys flow together. They almost sound the same at some points in their songs. The best songs on here are "Time After Time", this song is tight!! Also, "Soldier Story", Throw Them Thangs", Ghetto Day", and "Bout That Combat". Go get this CD!

3 out of 5 stars OK.......2003-07-04

Kane and Abel come back again with their second LP on No Limit Records. This is the best cd they have put out after all the horrible music they put out after leaving No Limit. This album was produced by Beats by The Pound(Now as the Medicine Men). Kane and Abel rap about the only thing they know, crime, sex, violence, ghetto, and drugs. They use old elements from other songs like on "Time After Time" and "Solider Story". This album has too much bland music and they don't ever change their formula, with too many cameo apperances from below average rappers makes this LP boring. You can't tell whos Kane and whos Abel. Don't get me wrong the twinz can rhyme and they are one of the best on the tank. But with too many tracks, too many cameo apperances, and familiar formulas makes this album seem like a No Limit Compilation than a KAne and Abel cd. I would pick this up cause it does have good tracks but think to yourself, how much of the same formula can No Limit keep puting out for consumers to digest

5 out of 5 stars so so goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!.......2003-04-17

one of the best No Limit-Releases ever! the twins really spit game and Beats By The Pound made a lotta fine beats for this one.my favs are "Stress", "Ghetto Day" and track #3 with Master P & Fiend. go get it!

5 out of 5 stars One of my Favorite Cd's.......2002-03-28

Kane & Abel came even better on this album than The 7 Sins. This was also their last album on No Limit and they came with that fire. If you don't like this cd, something's wrong with you.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Delbert.......2002-07-09

I owned both of these albums on vinyl many years ago. (I currently have Second Wind on CD). Although I've collected many of Delbert's albums since, These two are in my opinion among his best ever. Not a lot of frills, just soulful vocals and one of the tightest bands you'll ever hear.

Delbert's interpretations of "Spoonful," "B Movie," and "Two More Bottles of Wine" are timeless -- the 20-plus years since their original release makes no difference. This CD would be a good addition to the collection of any Delbert McClinton fan, and a terrific pick if you're only in the market for one of his albums.
