5 out of 5 stars A gem and what a fantasticly thoughtful title for an album.......2007-04-14

Delighted to have found this album earlier today (Tower Records, Wicklow Street). Was looking for something totally new. For me Hold a Match for a Gasoline World is such a discovery. Honey gold, velvet edged vocals mixed with absolutely georgeous musical arrangements. Full of subtle gentley emotive hypnotic songs. Who does Luke Temple sound like? Paul Simon, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake (though not depressing)Neil Young even? It doesnt matter really, although these comparisons do have merit, Luke Temple just has a really wonderful voice. If you like any of the above mentioned singers though why not give it a try perhaps you too will discover it's beauty.

4 out of 5 stars A Nice Change of Pace.......2005-07-24

I first heard Luke Temple this past year when he came to my school to open for Death Cab for Cutie. I immediately bought the Luke Temple EP from the merch booth (he signed it for me, too. Class act all the way). 3 of the tracks from that EP are on Hold a Match, and I was happy to find out that the rest of the songs on the CD hold up to their quality. I'm more of a Queens of the Stone Age/Foo Fighters kind of guy, but this is extremely well-written and performed music. Folky, but with an indie sort of vibe to it. A great change of pace from what's out there today. Don't write it off if you don't happen to be a fan of either of those genres-- he'll convert you.

4 out of 5 stars Another reason it is grand to work for Starbucks!.......2005-07-20

Luke Temple's music caught my ear while I was making caramel frappuccinos for a gang of My Chemical Romance sheep. The song was "Someone, Somewhere," and I was immediately captivated. Ironically, these fashioncore preteens called the music unbearable, which further validated my interest in Temple's sound. His is a fresh sound very much influenced by Simon and Drake, but I also feel he's on the same musical wavelength as the brilliant Sondre Lerche, albeit a more stripped down one. Luke Temple is true talent and this disc should not be ignored.

4 out of 5 stars Timeless Music.......2005-04-25

His music is timeless. His songwriting skills could be likened to Elliott Smith, The Beatles, Nick Drake, Sufjan Stevens, but his melodies are unlike any other. He has a perfect vocal pitch and uses his guitar as a great accompaniment to that delicate but virtuosic voice.
I highly recommend this album to anyone.
