Took a big gamble to buy this.. because it didn't have any samples of the songs.. BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!!! Very similar to the original versions.. only the backup vocals for some songs didnt sound that good. But overall, VERY VERY satisfied with the quality of this product!! May have overrated this cd, but i've bought, heard and gotten frustrated over bad-sounding karaoke versions to know this is an excellent cd. Top Tunes really does make good cover versions. Such a pity that this brand of CDs are not sold here in Singapore. Which explains why i have to buy from Amazon.com.

Speaking of which, thumbs up for Amazon!!! Amazon has made my first online transaction a very smooth and pleasant one. My stuff came within the estimated delivery time in good condition. Have definitely boosted my confidence in online shopping. Don't quite agree with the price though... But I'll certainly buy more stuff here simply because it's reliable and efficient. Top quality from Top Tunes.......2002-11-30

When I ordered my CDG player for my home karaoke set up, two cdg's were included as part of the deal. I was able to choose from a selection of Top Tunes fun packs, so I chose this Gal Pop pack. Top Tunes offers a professional show quality product . They use studio musicians for their recordings, and their discs have a sound that is really close to the original recordings. Also, they are recorded at a good level, so you don't have to turn the volume way up like you might on some poorly recorded discs (I own a few like this).

The graphics are easy to read in most cases, although the colors change with each song. You might get a green background with black outlined white text, white text on blue, or green text on yellow. The words change colors in time with the music, but I feel that I need to anticipate the highlighting just a little bit to truly be in time with the music. Also, I've noticed that with the white text on the blue background, the 2-6 lines are displayed, then the next set of lyrics pops up. The only drawback to this if that sometimes it is cutting it a little close before you see the next screen of lyrics. For example, on the Avril Lavigne song, I found that until I actually learned the song, I was a little bit late coming in on with some of the lines, but this could be related to my anticipation habit. I practiced the song at home for awhile before trying it at the karaoke bar and now I don't notice any problems. With the yellow and green backgrounds, the already sung lines disappear and new lines appear while you are still singing the lyrics at the bottom of the screen. This technique seems to be used for the faster paced songs where you need the lyrics to show up right away.

When there is a long instrumental section, there are bars that are highlighted to help show how long it will be until you sing again. On a few songs there is a numerical countdown instead. Every once in awhile I get some graphical artifacts mixed in with the lyrics, but I notice that usually only happens if I pause the CDG player.

Although Top Tunes makes multi-plexed karaoke discs, this is not one of them. Only discs specifically marked multiplex and TTM have the lead vocals. This is helpful so that you can learn the song, but it takes up more room so you don't get as many songs on one disc. There are no lyric sheets included.

There are background vocals provided, which help to round out the sound of a single performer, but may seem distracting. On "Ain't It Funny", the refrain has pre-recorded vocals, leaving the karaoke singer free to provide all the "Ohohohs and yeah yeahs" or to chime in with the refrain. On "Family Affair" and "Get this Party Started" the vocals start right away, dropping out during the verses. On the songs I'm familiar with from the radio, I've noticed the main singer has backup singers, or her own voice synthed over, so having the extra vocal help is a plus. If you want to sing in a group, the vocals don't really get in the way.

All in all, a great disc which I would recommend if you like singing girl pop music.
