The debut album from Eden's Crush is a pleasant surprise for two reasons: one, the girls are well trained, with strong, tuneful voices; and two, the music is good--great, actually. Eden's Crush is the end result of a television show, Popstars, where young women from all over the country auditioned to be one of the five to "live their dreams." The executive producers of this album rely on the groups' talent, giving the Crush smart, upbeat material in which to sink their collective teeth. Fans of the show have heard more than a few of these tracks, especially the debut single "Get Over Yourself," a girl-power anthem kissing off a selfish ex-boyfriend. All the songs (every one a potential single) have the same underlying themes of strength and self-respect. These young women aren't waiting for a knight in shining armor, and their message of independence should play well with teen and preteen girls. Adult listeners won't be disappointed, either. A straightforward cover of the Sheila E. classic, "The Glamorous Life," is almost as much fun as the original. Yes, Eden's Crush is manufactured--a perfect mix of multicultural beauties with the flattest stomachs this side of Britney Spears--but so what? The music and the talent far exceed expectations. --Courtney Kemp

5 out of 5 stars A Very Good Pop Album.......2006-12-01

Here's a question: How much do Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Hicks owe to Eden's Crush?

In 2001, the WB had a series called "Popstars". It had tryouts across the country (like American Idol). There were three judges (like American Idol). The finalists were flown to Los Angeles where they were whittled down in size (like American Idol). Before one considers the series an Idol takeoff, realize that 2001 was one year before American Idol hit the tube.

There were differences, though. American Idol was a contest with one winner. The goal of Popstars was to end up with a five girl singing act. In fact, the producer narrowed the finalists to six, five of which would be the group, and two dropped out. They immediately had tryouts for the replacement.

Enough of the series, and to the finished product. This is an excellent pop album. I'm sure I would have a problem with a lot of the lyrics. Musically, though, this was a well produced project by five talented young ladies.

My favorite songs on the project include "Love This Way", "1,000 Words (Mil Palabras)", and "Two Way."

3 out of 5 stars Good.......2006-05-10

Well, i gotta tell you, the only reason I bought this CD was because they had the song"Love this Way" on it and I REALLY love that song. After I heard it on an AMV, i just couldn't get it out of my head. Now I know your all probably thinkin "Who's Edens Cruch?" Right?, because thats exactly what i thought when I first heard this song. Then when I checked up on it online, I really didn't go for the whole POP look. But they actually did have some other good songs on tha album as well. Anyway, its a good CD, and another great deal about this CD is that if you buy it now, you can get it for 0.01 cent!!(Come on, where are you gonna find another CD with a price like that now-a-days,so even if you dont like it you dont have to go all crazy over the price and stuff)

5 out of 5 stars Eden's Crush.......2005-05-12

I remember this album when I was in the 8th grade. I remember the first single, Get Over Yourself(Goodbye). That song is so poppy. Eden's Crush was a girl group who blend musically and vocally together. Each member gets to shine vocally. They have state-of-the-art R&B-infused pop songs. This album has been certified GOLD. I love this album since it came out. The girls had reached to stardom.
The girls are different from 3LW and Dream.
Remember, this was 2001.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not as good as Dream .......2004-09-28

I don't know why these girls are constantly compared to Dream, because Dream has far better songs to offer than Eden's Crush. There are definitely good tracks here, but the album is made up almost completely of repetitive techno that I thought was good but just couldn't really get into. They're overrated. "Love This Way" is quite good and really stands out as the best track here, but other than that it sort of just all blends together into a bunch of the same crap. Dream's album is incredible (to this day I'm stunned they didn't get any further than they did), but this is just average. Three stars is all I can give to Eden's Crush. I almost gave them two.

5 out of 5 stars Great........2004-03-07

I bought this CD on its debut, & got all the girls' autographs. Too bad they're like non-existent. They were amazing. This was one of the few CDs that i could listen to pretty much all the way through without skipping songs. The songs are well-written, & not too sappy (considering this was all done in like 6 weeks), the beats are great, the girls are beautiful, everything about Eden's Crush is great. I wish they were still around.

5 out of 5 stars Very upbeat music!.......2007-01-08

This pop band has really uplifting music. You can listen to the fun tunes while singing along and dancing to them. I especially enjoy listening to their music while going on road trips. This is a great CD to add to your collection - enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Great songs, but lack of material loses a star.......2006-07-18

Now I randomly found Scene 23 out of nowhere - I'd never heard of them until a couple of weeks ago when I was recommended their music by a friend. I checked it out and was very pleased with what I heard. They are really talented! I have no idea who they are, all I know is that they came from Popstars and didn't last long.

I downloaded all their original songs - He Said She Said, I Really Don't Think So, The Greatest, All This Love, What She Got, Another Night & Respect Me. That's only 7 songs, which isn't really enough for an album. But it's enough for me to know that I like Scene 23 and their music.

The best track of the 7 is "Another Night" - this should have been a hit. It's a midtempo track, but still has attitude. One of the boys and one of the girls sing to each other, almost telling a story with the song. The chorus is really catchy, and there's a bit in the middle where they talk to each other, and the guy asks the girls "tell me how you feel." This song is fabulous, I love it.

Another standout track is "He Said She Said" - this would have made a great single. It's very very catchy with fabulous music, and the group sings to each other as well as to the listener. The lyrics are GREAT in this track. Another great song is "All This Love" - this song reminds me of an late 90's pop song, it's a slow jam and the closest you'll get to a ballad by Scene 23. "What She Got" is a song dominated by the girls, and it took awhile to grow on me, but now I love it! It's very catchy, about a girl who thinks she's all that. "The Greatest" is another slow burner of a song that took awhile to grow on me, but now I adore it - it's a cover of the S Club 7 original, and I think Scene 23 do this song a lot better then S Club ever did. Their vocals work better and it's a lot more catchy. "Respect Me" is a bit more bland then the other tracks, but it's still catchy. "I Really Don't Think So" is probably my least favourite track, I find it kind of boring.

So even though I like 6 of the tracks, why 4 stars? The fact that there's only 7 original tracks kind of brings it down. They needed more tracks to get 5 stars. The quality of the tracks are fabulous though, so that justifies the 4 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Scene 23 on the scene........2005-07-14

Over all the album would probably deserve three stars instead of four, but since I like all of scene 23's original songs and never once have to skip, I decided on four stars.

I'll start with 'He Said She Said'. This is one of my favorite songs on the album because of the catchy and edgy chorus, but also because the verses are equally divided between the male and female singers which makes it seem as if they're not only singing to you, but also to each other. I really love that about this song. Plus, everyone gets a chance to sing on this track.

The second song 'The Greatest' is probably the only song I tend to skip every now and then. It's not a bad song, but it's just not as good as the other ones, in my eyes at least.

As for 'I Really Don't Think So', I like it because of the pop/rock combination it has to it. This is by far the most edgy song on this album, but has a feel good feeling to it at the same time. The lyrics are pretty simple, but do the trick and a lot of people will be able to relate to the 'Why does everything got to be a love thing? Why can't we dig each other and just hang? Is it really where you wanna go, no, I really don't think so' part.

Moving on to 'All this Love' which can be seen as the only ballad on this album when it comes to the slow R&B beat. The vocals of the males really get the chance to stand out and some parts are sung with both power and soul.

'What She Got' is also one of the more catchier upbeat songs and the lyrics will get stuck in your head with ease. And most girls will probably be able to relate to the lyrics. I'll give you a little preview: 'What she got that I ain't got? Walks around like she owns the spot. Sweats herself 'cause she thinks she's hot. What she got that I ain't got, baby'.

'Another Night' can be considered a ballad, though to me the beat is slightly too quick for one. The lyrics don't go too deep, but the song is still worth listening, too.

And last but not least, 'Respect Me' holds a 'back off and leave me alone' kind of message to it. It gives you a boost of energy and makes you feel good.

As for the other three songs on the album, they aren't sung by the group itself, but are original songs from Mariah Carey, Joe, and R. Kelly. The songs are memorable and songs where you can totally get lost in.

The rest of the tracks are snippets taken from the actual show 'Pop Star'. They don't take more than a few handfuls of seconds so they're no distraction.

True, there are as many songs by Scene 23 on here as I would like, but it's still a pretty decent pop album to get and all of them do know how to sing.

1 out of 5 stars you have got to be kidding me.......2005-06-06

This has to be a joke right? William Hung had more star quality than any of these so called "popstars". they just dont have what it takes to be in the music buisness and it shows because where are they now? nobody cares.

1 out of 5 stars Popstars? Ha!.......2005-05-15

To call this band, "Scene 23," popstars, is like calling brussel sprouts delicious. They just aren't. All of the songs are bad, except "The Greatest," which I would like, except for S Club 7 were the original singers of it. There are only 6 original songs, not counting the intro and "The Greatest," and they all sound the same, and all lack the "bang" you need to have a hit. I can see why they didn't release a complete album. The world couldn't handle an entire Scene 23 CD.

5 out of 5 stars Slammin' song.......2002-02-02

Very catchy tune. It's also gives girls the inspiration to leave jerky guys. It's a great song, but I almost didn't get it.

You see, I thought it was kind of pathetic to form a group on tv (like was done with O-Town). Of course, after I got this single, I realized that these girls were VERY talented. In fact, I like them better than I like O-Town.

This single features:
The radio version of the song
The instrumental version
Phone messages from each of the girls, the group as a whole, and a message in Spanish from the group
The Spanish version of the song

I think this is an awesome CD single. These girls sound like if they can keep their group relationships together that they'll be together for a while to come.

TEN Tracks! That's right, ten tracks! There is Get Over Yourself ~Original~ Get Over Yourself ~Instrumental~ which I love! I love singing along to songs, especially when they give you an Instrumental version to use! ^_^ Then there is the Latin Version. There are 6 messages from EC, and then a message in Latin. There is no better single (I used to think Brooke Allison's was better, but not anymore!)

4 out of 5 stars Who lumps this in with Willa Ford?.......2001-07-23

Willa is absoulutely untalented. Eden's Crush are awesome! This is a very good catchy song, kind of like Dream and 3LW.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Nice debut cd.......2005-04-04

All song rated with a 0-10 scale, 10 being best and 0 being crap...

1. Pure And Simple - 10 - This is a very good song, nice beat and excellent harmonies.

2. The Way To Your Love - 10 - For the longest time I had only heard a dance remix of this song, so when I heard the original i wasn't that impressed, but then after a while I began to hear the quality of the song, and now it's a personal fave.

3. One Step closer - 2 - Horrible song...need I say more?

4. Another Lover - 5 - It'snot a horrible song, and they sound great together, but it just lacks something special.

5. One - 0 - Crap...plain and simple

6. Not The Kind - 3 - Sounds like a Christian-song-trying-to-go-pop-gone-wrong and it is a complete mess

7. Make It Happen - 10 - Disco is always the way to go when you need a good song to fill your album and this song is good. I lvoe the scartchyness in the lead singers voice for this song. She did something different. They actually sound like Alcazar in this song.

8. Breathe - 7 - I bit Backstreet Boys, but this is a good song. I listen to it often enough to say it wasn't a mistake.

9. Carried Away - 10+10 - OK so this must be the best song on this cd, because the music, vocals, and harmony is perfect. This is one of the most beautiful ssongs ive heard in a while.

10. Sweet Alibi - 0 - Crap...once again

11. I Didn't Want You Anyway - 5 - The Chorus is good, but the rest isn't...

12. Colourblind - ??? - I have never heard this song, I heard this cd once and i didnt get to hear this track, and when i copied it froma a friend this one didnt copy cause his cd was scratched.

13. Love Will Never End - 7 - This song wan't bad, nor was it great, but worthy...

14. Monday Monday - 10+10+10 - Okay once in a while there is a group that actually matches or surpasses the original singer of a particular song, and this grop has done beyond amazing on this song...VERY GOOD

15. Bridge Over troubled Water - 8 - Ok to be honest I can only compare it to Clay Aiken's version, cause I haven't heard the original. But they definately made it better than Clay...

2 out of 5 stars adequate..........2002-01-22

A fun TV series which really had me hooked. The follow up album is a perfectly acceptable pop release BUT when you have seen the hurried and frenzied way in which the album was put together and recorded (band learning and recording each song in one day) you realise (as if you didn't all ready) quite how 'production line' the whole process is.

Catchy songs but no soul/spirit to them. A talented bunch of singers who will appeal to the kids.

However, check out Pink's new album or the Sugababes debut release to see how pop can be both vital and refreshing when it has a bit of personality about it.

4 out of 5 stars Not half bad.......2001-11-24

I heard bout Hear'Say from one of my friends that lives in the UK. I like their song "Pure & Simple" I could sing along to that for hours! Also their song "The way To Your Love" is good. The reason why I gave 4 stars is because they totally ruined Bridge Over Troubled Water! They took out so many verses then switched it all around!

1 out of 5 stars come the revolution..........2001-11-18

PLEASE come the revolution... we cannot bear this anymore... the disciples of true rock 'n' roll have been waiting a long time, lord. Decree the goetzendammerung... deliver us from the asinine. Send these people - and their perverse creators - back to the salt mines from whence they come.

For Berkeley, Calif.'s Slumberland Records, one of the best and most forward-looking imprints of the scene, it was just the opposite. Their amazing 1994 compilation, Why Popstars Can't Dance (answer: "because guilty feet have got no rhythm") brought together a more progressive selection of pop-united styles: early drones from Stereolab, the sharp guitar and overwhelming organ buzz of Rocketship, the shoegazing post-rock of Lorelei, the earnest strum of Honeybunch, homespun sweetness from Glo-Worm, the intensely personal home recordings of Linda Smith, and grotty English buzz from Boyracer. The selection of bands managed to touch on nearly every major strain of the scene; as an introduction to the indie pop world, it's hard to do better than this.

4 out of 5 stars Wet Sounds or Pet Sounds?.......2001-01-16

Pop music is a subjective thing. When someone says "pop music", maybe you think of Ricky Martin or Britney Spears. Maybe you think of the masters, like Henry Mancini or Neil Diamond. And you would be right, these are all fine examples of "pop music". Let's broaden the defanition. Pop music: The final product of formed or aranged sounds. Catchy hooks. Sticky melodies.

Beatnik Filmstars make pop music. The Beach Boys make pop music. Both write catchy pop 'songs', and much like the Beach Boys, the boys in Beatnik Filmstars ejoy a little experimentation in the mix. The only difference is, the Beatnik Filmstars like it noisy, messy, and twisted. If I had to quickly aproximate their sound, I'd say it's much like Guided By Voices in a violent battle with a blender... and the blender wins.

'All Popstars are Talentless Slags' begins with the completely fuzzed-out 'Wasted'. It's got all the makings of perfect lo-fi pop, sloppy guitars, scuzzy vocals, and lots of feedback. As if that were'nt enough, the boys follow it up with the completely tweaked swagger of "Pilot Jack Harrison". This stuff just makes me completely hyper. Whenever I listen to this EP, I feel the urge to run up walls, hang from the trak lighting, and jump on my bed. The rest of 'All Popstars...' is just as perfect. There isn't a sour song in the batch. "The Hopeless Will Do Battle" is not coincidentaly dedicated to Bob Pollard, it's a grand noise-pop freak out in the fine tradition of Guided By Voices. "13th Annual Showdown" mixes jangly guitar with videogame keyboard soundtrack melodies and a danceable beat. This is highly reccomended for pop lovers as well as the lo-fi crowd.
