Electronica artists are increasingly in demand as film scorers. Overall this is good news, and this heavily instrumental music fits especially well with action or sci-fi movies (cf. Pi). Since Plunkett & Macleane is set in the 18th century, choosing Massive Attack associate Craig Armstrong was a bit of an odd choice-one that's mostly paid off. Here Armstrong mixes up Carl Orff-style pomp, string-laden trip-hop, and a somber ambience reminiscent of late 1980s Goth. And despite Lewis Parker's inept (and incongruous) rapping, a cover of Talking Heads' "Houses in Motion" provides a soulful break from the heavy-duty atmospherics that make up most of this CD. We're not talking Miklós Rósza here, but this definitely is an encouraging piece of work. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Hot, brilliant and fantastic........2006-03-13
As a soundtrack collector this is something you must have, especially if you like costume dramas, because this music screams "period piece" at you.
The rich sounds of Gregorian choruses, classical music and occasional electronica and techno jolts make me feel like I'm flying when I listen to this. The music is rich, deep, haunting and at times sounds like a crazy horse galloping though an 18th Century haunted forest. I think this cd is so intricate, crafty and complex that it should be mandatory listening to anyone with ears.
The best part of the score is how each track sounds better than the next. Track #7 The Ball for example is a very modern trance with violins giving it that classical edge, but be careful if you're driving and listening to it, or you might break the speed limits. This piece also sounds like some sexy dark Vampire dance scene, something you might watch in a totally far fetched movie story line- it's that exotic and cool. Track #9 sounds like an outdoor dinner in some rich king's court, with light violins and background modern rhythm, a really nice combo.
My favorite part was #16 &17, a true work of musical art. It's live, strong, colossal, fiery and full of adrenaline piece of score. It's crazy but those two tracks are so grand, they can make tears come out of my eyes. I have always loved music and scores but these two pieces always touch my heart when I hear them. If I haven't seen the movie I would guess they were from Amadeus or Immortal Beloved.
Overall this score is simply gorgeous. I urge everyone to listen to the clips although they are teasers and they might not develop into the full flavor potential of each track, yet they are indicators whether this soundtrack is for you. If this cd doesn't submerge you in another world, then I don't know what will.

That was the only reason I bought it, Very Dissapointed!

simply great.......2004-02-23
His mix of very well orchestrated synthetic sounds with Gregorian like choirs are simply so relaxing.
If you are scared of flying, buy it and listen to it on your next trip, it is better than Prozac :-)

"One clear harp in diverse tones".......2003-04-12
The latter album features four of her own compositions: 'Tender Wishes;' 'Mystic Waters;' 'Reminiscent;' and 'Whisper Dreams.' There are also traditional favorites such as 'Greensleeves' and 'Scarborough Fair,' and a couple of dance tunes from the Renaissance. Close your eyes and let your thoughts resonate to the clear, beautifully-played strings of Schultz's harp and you'll be soothed without the need for essential oils, scented candles, or any of that other New Age clutter.
This harpist also had a chance to tour with the traditional Irish band, The Chieftains when their group's longtime harpist Derek Bell died suddenly last October. Schultz joined them for their "Down the Old Plank Road: The Nashville Sessions" tour. Since she had been a Chieftains fan and a Celtic music buff for years, it was the opportunity of a lifetime.
She has also written the book, "You Can Play the Harp."
Speaking of New Age clutter, my only problem with this album is the inclusion of occasional water sounds that seem less like rain than like someone left a faucet running in the recording studio. There are also occasional bird songs, but these are minor distractions in what is essentially an album of harp music for meditation and relaxation.

Amazing 80's Sounding CD From Autograph Singer.......2007-04-21
these guys knew how to have fun, party, and sing darn good music and it showed!
All this leads me to my review of Steve Plunkett's debut solo album 'My Attitude'I think this CD proves that Autograph had a few more great albums in them before they vanished from the scene. It also shows that Steve was one heck of a great songwriter.
These songs have such a great vibe, especially the opening track 'Heavy Pettin' and the 2nd song 'Louie Louie'
it sounds very similar to the first Autograph album 'sign in please' and a bit like the 'Missing Pieces' album from Autograph
not really any giant leaps forward but honestly any drastic change would have ruined this...
The biggest surprise for me was finding one of my favorite songs on here 'If I Had My Way' (which is a beautiful love ballad) that first was on Every Mother's Nightmare's CD 'Wake Up Screaming'
I was so happy to hear this song on here, and Steve does an amazing job with it.
The album is very consistant, not a lot of songs jump out but none let you down either,it's very balanced
and the production is top notch, not to mention Steve is singing as great as ever!
I found this CD by accident (luckily) and I'm glad I bought it
the upside - great 80's style music, performed expertly, the best songs are 'Heavy Pettin' 'Louie Louie' and 'If I Had My Way' but it's really strong the whole way through
the downside - aside from those mentioned, the rest of the songs don't really jump out at you as singles, but that's okay because it sounds great start to finish and it's more of a total experience then 1 or 2 great songs alone, which is the sign of a great CD,the only other negative is I really wish Autograph or Steve would continue to make great music like this,I really miss it
the bottom line - this is perfect for any fan of 80s style hard rock music,it will take you back to a simpler time, great riffs, great singing all done with a smile....I recommend it!!! Donutman says so!!!
