Customer Reviews:
Great.......2007-05-21
Live is one of the best band out there! Great music that you can hear anywhere and anytime....
Great track selection for this best of LIVE mix.......2007-03-10
THE BAND: Ed Kowalczyk (vocals, guitar), Chad Taylor (lead guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass), Chad Gracey (drums & percussion). Hometown: York, PA.
THE DISC: (2004) 19 tracks clocking in at approximately 77 minutes. Included with the disc is a 7-page foldout containing song titles/credits (no lyrics), band photos, what songs came from which albums, a quick paragraph on each album from Kowalczyk, and thank you's. This compilation follows the band from their 1991 debut through "Birds Of Pray" in 2003. There is an additional 2-disc release (the CD with music, and a DVD with interview and videos) also available. Label - Radioactive Records.
ALBUM REPRESENTATION: Mental Jewelry (3 songs), Throwing Copper (5), Secret Samadhi (2), The Distance To Here (3), V (2), Birds Of Pray (2), Unreleased (2).
COMMENTS: Outside of "Throwing Copper" (1994), this "Best Of" compilation might be all the Live you need. It absolutely hits on all the highlights of each album. Tracks 1-3 find the band in raw form from "Mental Jewelry"... singing and playing like they had something to prove. "Operation Spirit" and "Pain Lies On The Riverside" were the standout songs and worthy of inclusion here. Tracks 4-8 are from "Throwing Copper" - easily their biggest and most recognized tunes. "Copper" had so many great songs - and Kowalczyk never sang with such conviction. The melodies were most importantly... memorable. And then Kowalczyk shaved his head and went Zen on everyone. For me, "Secret Samadhi" (1997) was the start of the decline for Live. "Lakini's Juice" was my favorite track from this one because of the weird guitar chords. "Turn My Head" was the other good tune from "Samadhi", but the rest of the album was a mixed bag at best. Kowalczyk singing about spirit, his Holiness, angel wings, birds and dolphins crying in the near future was losing audiences. Not to mention the music just not being that strong - outside of a few tracks on each album - all of which are here on "Awake - Best Of Live". The Distance To Here" made some waves but quickly lost steam and fell from the charts. Their fifth album "V" (labeled as "experimental") was trashed by most major music mags. "Birds Of Pray" was a semi return to form, but once again garnered mixed reviews and almost no FM-airplay. The unreleased "We Deal With Dreams" was an extra song from the "Throwing Copper" sessions and is a nice inclusion here. Live's remake of Johnny Cash's "I Walk The Line" is nothing out of the ordinary, but still respectable. Missing are a few personal favorites (but by no means essential) - "Iris", "Top", "White, Discussion", "Ghost", "Voodoo Lady", and "Graze". This is a fantastic disc because it has the band's best songs over their 1st dozen years ALL in one place. Despite Live's 2nd half fall from the charts, this is a stellar introduction to the band (5 stars).
Best of the best.......2006-12-24
Of all the hundreds of CD's I own, this is my absolute favorite. I love the passion of "Selling the Drama" and "Pillar of Davidson". This CD hasn't been out of my CD player since I bought it. Just brilliant!
Is this album really necessary?.......2006-09-09
These guys are the biggest joke in rock music. All of these 5 star reviews are an even bigger joke. Ed Kowizsychik(SP) or however you want to spell it sounds as pathetic as he looks. This is garbage, plain & simple. Im glad radio is no longer saturated with their music. 20 years from now, no one will remember this group.
LIVE.......2006-07-10
I saw the Band on American Idol and became interested in more of their music.

After many many years of being a Live fan the band realest a DVD with every video ever been released by them. It is a MUST have for the true live fan.
Its Live.......2007-01-03
Its the best of. Of course, there are many other titles that I feel belong on this CD, but its only so big. I am an old school fan, and Mental Jewelry is my favorite. The DVD is a nice addition, and the unreleased song is cool also. Even better than that is the remake of Walk the Line by Cash. Nicely done. Buy it now!
Love it!.......2006-11-04
I already own all the Live albums so in all honesty I did not need the CD, however the main reason I wanted this was for the DVD of all the music videos. I recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys Live and highly recommend purchasing the DVD Deluxe Version.

sappy love songs.......2006-07-20
The compositions, Rhythms and singin-style of Peter Cetera sound always the same. He is a typical sappy love song - singer who prefers the love ballads and cheesy love adventures.
it might have been a bit tedious and boring.
The problem is everywhere: If you are a Hardrock fan like bands Uriah Heep, Stevie Ray Vaughan, AC/DC, Rory Gallagher, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, your ears can't be familar with all these silly love songs. My ears cannot work like that.
there are two alternatives:
- if you are a hardrock fan. You like a mythological lyrics, you won't like Peter Cetera or Chicago. Keep your fingers away from this !!!
- if you are a sappy love song fan then please buy this cd !!!
What a big surprise!.......2005-09-21
I was browsing in Walmart's CD section and found this gem at the unbelievable price of $5.88. I saw the track list and inmediately knew for sure that this was going to be a great CD as I know Peter Cetera quality. The CD is just what I expected, his biggest hits updated in an unplugged version backed up with an non obtrusive symphony orchestra. Peter's voice sounds as warm and hearty as it gets and the female guest voice in the duets is great also very respectful of the original female voices in the album's versions. All the hits are here, the guitars sound is polished and while the songs hasn't been changed a lot (that is a very good thing) there are some guitar intros that set you up in the mood to start listening Cetera's voice. Overall, this CD feels like if someone told Cetera to please sing his favorite songs (more with more than 20 years of their release) and he did it with a most surprising excellence, showing both his mature and his still excellent (like the first days) incredible voice and feeling. Ohhh, and with that price, there is absolutely nothing that could go wrong with buying it. You'll be glad you did.
I Can't believe how good this CD sounds!!!!.......2005-03-30
As a fair weather fan of both Chicago and Peter Cetera, I think I can comment with some authority on this CD. I also spent some time during the late 1980's and early 1990's in rock and top 40 radio. Both Cetera and Chicago were still thriving on the charts, with Chicago starting to lose steam. Peter Cetera on the other hand kept chugging away on AC radio. As a guy who grew up on rock radio, I always thought Cetera wanted to be a rocker. His first solo album (Peter Cetera) contains one of the best rock radio songs ever-"Living In The Limelight". A song that has been long forgotten. Cetera also later teamed up with David Gilmore (Pink Floyd guitarist, composer) to create the eery "You Never Listen to Me" from Cetera's album "One More Story". Chicago on the other hand was still hot, but cooling off from the last Cetera project, Chicago 17. Jason Scheff took over for Cetera on vocals, and did some nice work on "Will You Still Love Me?" and "What Kind Of Man Would I Be" from Chicago 18 and the subsequent best of '82-'89 disc. But that would essentially be it for Chicago. They made one last gasp in 1990 with "Chasin' The Wind" with Bill Champlin on vocals. But Chicago was heavily relying on "hot" songwriters to keep them going. Many would say that their post Chicago 17 stuff sounded more reminiscient of Heart or Night Ranger, thanks to the chunky production work of Ron Nevison. Peter Cetera kept on doing what he does best-sing and write great songs. From the Oscar nominated "Glory Of Love" to the haunting, yet optimistic "Restless Heart", Cetera continued to find a home on AC radio. In fact, even when Cetera didn't write the song, he managed to choose well. "Feels Like Heaven" and "After All", both duets, were perfect AC radio fare, and put Cetera's ready made soft rock vocals back to work. Chicago's studio efforts falied to produce much. "Here In My Heart", another Champlin song, became a minor hit from the 30th anniversery greatest hits CD. To Chicago's credit, they continue to tour and sell out most of their shows. In fact last year's pairing with Earth, Wind and Fire was a stroke of brilliance. Both bands have so much in common-and what a catalogue to play from!
But of all the CD's to be released, The Best Of Peter Cetera Live, could be better than anything from Chicago or Cetera to this point. The recording itself is stunning. A combination of Cetera's unplugged band (who are these great guitar players anyway?) and the Salt Lake City Symphony Orchestra-and 5.1 surround sound make this CD glisten. The material here is all good-no fillers. In fact, a Cher impersonation begins "After All", but she is hardly missed as the mystery guest female singer blows the roof off the auditorium. Every song is re-done with more depth than the original. After hearing Jason Scheff sing the older Chicago classics, it was refreshing to hear Cetera's original takes on "Baby What A Big Surprise" and "If You Leave Me Now", 2 Cetera penned classics that both garnered grammies in the late '70's. "25 or 6 to 4" may have been the most ambitious re-working of the show. Cetera and band completely re-arrange this late 60's guitar and horn fest and turn it into pure drama. The result is comparable to what Eric Clapton did to "Layla" on his unplugged CD. But this is better. Robert Lamm's psychodelic lyrics, sung to a full orchestra, and slowed down with shiny acoustics, make for a most memorable song. And that's how this abridged concert offering ends. Probably one of the best CD's I've ever listened to from start to finish. Peter Cetera not only proves he's still relevant, he shows his arranging prowess, as well as his ability to choose the perfect material for an unforgettable and truly wonderful CD. Sure beats singing "Howdy doody", eh Peter?

CD/DVD - The Best of Hanson Live and Eletric.......2007-04-11
Good product. It`s really best of them. And the most cool thing is that I bought a CD together with the DVD!! I`m loving it!
love it.......2007-03-09
i love this cd and that it comes with a dvd. i am a proud hanson fan and have been since the beginning. they are definately improving.
The Hanson Life Philosophy!.......2006-12-07
This album is terrific! Hanson picked out all the songs they want you to hear again & gave you new versions of them. I think the thing that makes this group so exciting is their unlimited potential. This potential is there because they write songs based on their life philosophy. At its core this Hanson Life Philosophy is centered around the song they like to call "MMMBop" which also happens to be the song that made them famous. It is track #11 on this cd & it is the best one in my opinion. Oddly enough, this Hanson Life Philosophy happens to be the antithesis of what Dr. Laura Schlessinger preaches on her radio show. Let's pick apart "MMMBop" & delve into the very heart of what these 3 great philosophers are trying to convey.
"You have so many relationships in this life" Wow! The bell rings for round 1 & Hanson starts out with a haymaker! This quote refers to the touchy subject of promiscuity & while they don't come out & endorse it, they don't attack it either like most prudes.
"Only 1 or 2 will last" This states that divorce is not the big deal people make it out to be. 2 relationships in life are just as good as 1.
"You're going through all this pain & strife then you turn your back & they're gone so fast." This refers to all the pain & suffering in the World & just by turning your back it can easily be ignored.
"So hold on to the ones who really care in the end they'll be the only ones there" This deals with the superficial people that dominate America & how one should shun these people.
"When you get old & start losing your hair can you tell me who will still care" This simply states that you lose sex appeal as you age & real friends won't care.
"Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose you can plant any one of those keep planting to find out which one grows it's a secret no one knows" This is the thesis of their song & their philosophy. The seeds and flowers are symbolic of the human race & how we never know what makes one person grow into a spiritually wise person like Martin Luther King Jr. or makes one turn into an intolerant person. The secret no one knows means Hanson believes in BF Skinner's behaviorism. There is a way to grow a rose like person but it is a secret that we haven't cracked yet.
So there it is, Hanson's Life Philosophy. I think these guys are sages. Zac was probably too young when this song was written to have had much influence over it. So this may be all Taylor & Isaac's creation. All 3 try to weave it into all of the songs they write. I highly recommend you buy this cd/dvd & wait for their next release for more words of wisdom.
The Music Lives but the Acoustic ROCKS!!!.......2006-10-02
This is a great album, don't get me wrong! However, I don't think it's as good as their acoustic concert. I purchased "Underneath Acoustic" before "Live & Electric" and was amazed by their mature harmonious sound in the acoustic concert, having not heard any of their music since "This Time Around" album. The "Live & Electric" concert wasn't as clear and concise and actually left me a little disappointed. My 5 year old son and myself love "Penny & Me" and couldn't wait to play it, but after hearing it, went back to the acoustic version. I don't know, maybe in my middle age I prefer their softer sound!!!
Anyway, rock on boys and as Taylor's t-shirt says "THE MUSIC LIVES"
Mature and Marvelous!.......2006-06-04
From MMMMBop to Penny & me,Hanson has grown up well! The songs are lively, poignant and beautiful, and show the maturity of these boys...now men. I am most impressed to find that they write their own music, play the instruments and do not rely on others to make the sound for them. I happen to think that they got labeled "Boyband" from their MMMBop days, and are not being given a fair shake as serious musicians.I am in my late 30's and very much enjoy the harmonious trio. I find the songs catchy, upbeat and full of decent, uplifting, unprofane lyrics...stuff you can actually sing to!
Cheers to Hanson...their music is teriffic and so are they! I hope this is only the beginning of great discs from this great group!

Asronishing talent.......2007-03-23
My wife and I just caught Paul Thorn live (solo acoustic) opening for David Bromberg and The Angel Band (featuring David and his quartet backing up his wife's amazing a capella trio). Amazing, astonishing, inventive, and utterly charming. His songs are great - his stories even better. I was grinning like a fool through the entire performance and had a brief but thoroughly enjoyable chat with him during the set break. I listened to the CD on the drive dome and his sound with the band is quite different but every bit as enjoyable.
If you have a chance to see this man perform live - do it. In the mean time, if you enjoy great storytelling, strong southern blues, and rocking guitar work, pick up this DVD/CD. It's a great value and will be an often played addition to your library.
Worth it for the DVD alone. .......2007-02-06
I discovered Paul Thorn by accident in the fall of 2005 when he was opening for Huey Lewis. I have since acquired every bit of his music I can lay my hands on, and have seen him live once. The DVD gives a flavor of his live performances by including some of his many stories...it seems each song has a story.
Paul Thorn is an amazingly talented and versatile songwriter. He can make you laugh with songs like "Burn Down the Trailer Park" and "Viagra", then turn around and make you cry with "I Have a Good Day" and "Things Left Undone". Besides his skill with lyrics, the music is sometimes bluesy, sometimes country, sometimes rock. He can't really be categorized.
The CD contains many of his standards. If you have not been introduced to Paul Thorn, this combo set is an excellent place to start. You will find yourself checking his schedule on his website for an opportunity to see him live.
Too good to be true, but it is...........2006-11-04
Paul and the band give you a dose of what's in store for you if you ever get the chance to catch 'em live.A great mix of story-telling, humor, pathos and musicianship all wrapped up in one roaring good time. If you can watch this without laughing out loud, tapping your feet, and just plain, old feeling good, you've got a hole in your soul. So watch it twice and let Paul work his magic. You won't be disappointed....
Live is the best.......2006-09-07
This is really a DVD with a bonus CD. If you have never seen Paul in concert this is a must have set, if you have seen him you will want to add this to your collection. This was recorded in Atlanta and I found the DVD is to be a good substitute for being there. I have been enjoying Paul's work for a while now and this is the best offering of his yet.
A Special Performer.......2006-09-04
Paul Thorn is a man of many hats; a talented musician, singer, songwriter, stand-up comic & "inspirational leader" (oh, and a former boxer). Thorn and his talented band cruise through a fun set of bluesy rock, interjected by his good-spirited, often self-deprecating humor. Guitarist Bill Hinds proves equally adept at blistering blues-rock ("Heart With 4 Wheel Drive"), feather-light slide guitar a la Lee Roy Parnell ("Every Little Bit Hurts") and everything in between. Keyboardist Michael "Dr. Love" Graham adds a somber organ to the latter tune, & propels the energetic stomper "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand" with his rock'n'roll piano. The band lays down a wickedly funky groove on the deliriously silly "Ain't Love Strange", while the bouncy "Lover's Vacation" coasts along with carefree abandon.
A reocurring theme in Thorn's songwriting is, not surprisingly, the idea of continually getting back up after being knocked down, and the hope of better things ahead ("I'd Rather Be A Hammer Than A Nail", "Rise Up", "I Have A Good Day", "There's Something Out There"), which may further explain his charismatic appeal. He is a champion of the underdog who can relate to his audience, while not taking himself too seriously.
Don't make the mistake of thinking Thorn is simply a novelty act. He's an original artist who deserves to be discovered. And at this price, this CD/DVD package is a bargain.

Wonderful CD for toddlers and up.......2006-06-02
My three year old son loves this CD and listens over and over. We heard Itchie Itchie Ow one morning and he was singing it that afternoon and I knew we had to get the CD. My husband and I enjoy her voice as well, soft, calming and melodious - easy tunes to remember and about things to which kids can relate. She is somewhat similar to Laurie Berkner but Katherine's songs seem to have more relevance, i.e., kids understand muscles and bones and what itchies and owies are. I agree with the other reviewers; you will be listening several times a day so good thing adults enjoy as well!!
awesome cd!.......2006-05-10
My children and I saw Katherine Dines at our library. She is wonderful! We bought two cd's and this is our favorite! Myself my children and all the kids in the neighborhood love her cd's (3-10yr olds). They always ask for it in the car. Muscle and Bones and Hey Sam are hands down the favorites of this cd. I really enjoy listening myself. You won't be disapointed with this cd.
Katherine Dines is the best!.......2000-09-25
My 2-year-old son has had this CD since he was 10 months old, and he loves it! If Mama doesn't play "Sam" (his name for it) at least once a day, she's in trouble! The songs are easy to learn and remember, the tunes are memorable and--great for this adult who has to listen to it over and over--enjoyable! Dines has a real gift for entertaining children as well as educating, and this collection is one of her best.

Live and Loud!!.......2007-07-28
The CD is aptly named...I have been fortunate enough to catch these guys live several times and they know how to rock the house, this CD takes you straight back to thier shows..or shows you what you have been missing if you have not had the pleasure of seeing them LIVE AND LOUD!!! A Must Have CD for any and all Little Texas Fans!
Live and Loud (as Little Texas should be).......2007-07-01
Little Texas is a GREAT live band, and this is the only live album that I know about. This is the original line-up of LT, only fewer. Porter Howell comes up from the back and does a great job on lead vocals. Since this is also billed as a 'greatest hits' album, you get the basics (with the exception of any of the good stuff from their new 'Missing Years' album - too bad). Favorites are 'God Blessed Texas' (best heard live, and Porter Howell is a good match for this song) and the catchy "Amy's Back in Austin.' Using [...] I bought this along with their recent studio album (Missing Years). Good deal.
AWESOME!!!!.......2007-05-16
This CD is so good there isn't enough words to describe it!! The way the disc is mixed you can't tell when it's changing to the next track. It's like you're "live" at the show. I love it!!!
A stunning return.........2007-05-16
Little Texas has returned with a superb live album. I received it yesterday, and I have played it front to back several times. The album is A++ in its quality. One cannot help but conclude that this "pared-down" version of the original Little Texas to a pure guitar band is not only the essential of its original line-up, but that this is the way Little Texas should have been from the outset. The difference - Porter Howell. His superb guitar playing and songwriting have always been a defining feature of Little Texas, but now he is front and center on vocals. The result is a believable and appealing delivery by someone who obviously LOVES the music. The other original members, Del Gray, Dwayne O'Brien, and Duane Propes provide songwriting and harmony vocals that distinguish Little Texas from other country bands. The rhythm section of Propes and Gray is the best in the field to my ear. I won't comment on all the songs, but the live "First Time For Everything" is a special treat. The inclusion of "Get Back" shows that Little Texas can rock and that they, like the Beatles, have a sound that surpasses their numbers. "Hello Again" Little Texas. You are indeed back again...and better than ever.

Great live performance.......2006-10-12
This is one of the few "live in concert" recordings that really lives up to its name. Usually, the sound quality is extremely poor, or the artist gives short shrift to their old material, instead choosing to showcase whatever newer material they're promoting at the time. On this CD, the sound quality's very good, and Irma performs lots of her older songs that her fans love.
Really strong set from an underappreciated artist.......2006-06-28
If you listen to mainstream radio, you've probably never heard of Irma Thomas. What a mistake radio has made ignoring her work all these years! She's probably best known for her song "Time Is On my Side" which the Rolling stones made very famous and a fine version is on this CD.
Really the entire set is very good and this is an artist deserving of a huge audience. It's so much better than 90% of what you hear on the radio. There's real talent here- enjoy.
fantastic fun.......2006-01-17
Yes, Irma's timbre & voice have darkened somewhat since the '60's-- but I think the
husky quality is incorporated well. And while yes it's live so sound isn't completely pristine, it's till very good IMO. Most importantly they run through a whole host of
her most famous material and she just does it great! Very entertaining-- superb artist! If you want a more ballad side of the mature Irma, check out too her underated
"True Believer" album
OUR HOMETOWN GIRL.......2003-04-28
Irma's rendition of "It's Raining" is worth the price of the entire CD. I've always liked her friendly, smoky voice and the selection of songs is pretty good too, especially the aforementioned "It's Raining" and the too-funny "You Can Have My Husband (But Please Don't Take My Man)."
Huge disappointment........2002-10-22
Lousy sound quality. Irma has strained her voice beyond recognition. Irma should give her voice a rest and recover her famous timbre. Musically Irma is wonderful, but she is going the way of Maria Callas.

Bait and Switch.......2007-06-27
This album claims to be the best of Bad Company, but it cannot be the `Best of' without Paul Rodgers, in fact Bad Company is not Bad Company without him. Make sure you read all the details of this album before making the purchase. I had to send it back!
SAD COMPANY.......2005-12-13
A misnomer is what you're getting here. Paul Rodgers put the "Bad" in Bad Co. with his earthbound, grit-rimmed vocals and climactic lyrical ad-libbing, but once replaced (and I use that term VERY loosely) by pedestrian singer Brian Howe, their shooting star fizzled. This concert cash-in on hits old and new is also minus the rock-steady bottom of bassist Boz Burrell, but Rodgers is the key omission. Better to check out the recent live Bad Co. offering MERCHANTS OF FORTUNE, still featuring only half the original members, but at least one is ex-Free wailer Rodgers. On WHAT YOU HEAR IS WHAT YOU GET, early Bad Co. classics FEEL LIKE MAKIN' LOVE and ROCK 'N ROLL FANTASY still rule over latter day fluff HOW ABOUT THAT and NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE, demonstrating how their songwriting also suffered after Paul's exit. As far as classic rock is concerned, this lifeless concert attempt will put you in pretty bad company. RATING: TWO THUDS
Whatever!.......2005-06-11
If you're an original BadCo fan....yeah....then this is probably not for you, but please......Brain Howe made his own mark and if you can't appreciate that.....you're NO rock fan in anyway.....shape or form!! PERIOD! ......while this doesn't feature Paul Rodgers the rest of the lineup IS BadCO......and they do an excellent job of taking fans on the ride that they were on at that particulart time in thier career! Mick Ralphs sounds great and shows that he can change and stay afloat at a time when there really wasn't much by way of Classic Rockers out there! Simon Kirke is steady as well......so if you like live concerts and classic rock......then sip a few gin and tonics and appreciate this for what it is...classic rockers trying to give their fans some music and still make a living enjoying what God let them do the best while they go through life! Spread the music!
Terrible CD.......2005-02-11
I bought this CD, listened to it once and threw it away. Brian Howe is no Paul Rodgers. The vocals are awful, only slightly better than the mastering. This CD is a travesty. If I could give it 0 stars I would.
Bad Company-'The Best Of Bad Company Live.....'(Atlantic).......2004-12-11
By the time this CD was released, vocalist Brian Howe had been with the band for eight(8)years so it's a bit easier to at least 'sort of' accept Bad Company the way they are.I saw Howe with Bad Co. twice and this is pretty much a typical live album.More recent tracks here include "How About That","Here Comes Trouble","Take This Town" and "If You Needed Somebody".For some reason, these tunes seem to grow on you, probably because guitarist Mick Ralphs is STILL able to pen out good songs. The older/vintage Bad Co. cuts are nicely done, considering.Like "Ready For Love","Rock&Roll Fantasy","Shooting Star",their signature love song "Feel Like Making Love"(show me a female that doesn't like this song),"Movin' On","Good Lovin' Gone Bad" and "Can't Get Enough".My only complaint is that "Shake It Up" isn't on here.Nice cover, though.

Worth the Wait.......2006-02-01
As a long-time fan, this CD is what we've always hoped for in Rundgren's music - well played, well produced, and remarkably consistent. This really is a "best of" compilation that highlights Todd's Philly-soul sound and those intangibles that cultivated a loyal fan base over the years.
Fabulous Collection of Live Todd Tracks.......2005-12-10
This one is a keeper: live tracks of Todd's concert staples, cherry-picked from performances with different groups and in different settings over the last twenty or so years. Although Toddheads have many of these recordings from various official bootleg releases, what I like about this release is the continuity and flow of the track selection: it really does feel like a cohesive, kick-butt concert you are listening to, except that each song is performed exceptionally well and there are no weak tracks, flubs, or hiccups during the set. I also really enjoyed Todd's comments in the liner notes about why he picked a particular performance, and what he remembers about the song or the show. Great stuff. Quibbles: what, no tracks from the awesome power-trio 1995 Individualist Tour? And though "Soul Brother" sounds great, off the recently-released "Liars Live" DVD -- when is Todd going to release a cd-only of that great show?
Keep it coming, Toddster.
You Might Think .......2005-11-28
New Cars lead singer Todd Rundgren has put together a great compilation of live performances. In spite of the fact that these versions have appeared elsewhere Todd has done an amazing job of cleaning them up in a way to give the disc the feel of an actual concert complete with the splicing of crowd noises between tracks. That was no small feat considering the performances were recorded over a 26 year time span.
The only song that seems to suffer from poor production is the version of "I Saw the Light" taken from the Acapella tour and it's not the quality of the performance it's the quality of the recording. On the other end of the spectrum is the amazing versions of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Can't Stop Running."
If you are a loyal Rundgren fan you will appreciate how well this was put together and you won't be embarrassed to play the entire thing for your uninitiated friends. If the quality of the two tracks from "Liars" is any indication of how good the DVD will be then we are in for a treat.
If you are like me you probably wish that the last 15 years would have brought more new stuff and less live stuff or Bossa Nova rehashes from Todd but at least this compilation doesn't leave you feeling like Todd has insulted your intelligence or taken advantage of your loyalty for the umpteenth time, and for you Cars fans, fasten your seat belts because after you listen to this you will find that Todd is "Just What You Needed" and it's time to "Let the Good Times Roll."
