4 out of 5 stars Interesting, but definitely a niche market........2006-08-13

An entire album of background music for the Zombie apocalypse. I have to hand it to the artist, this music would be PERFECT for zombies walking around and bumping into each other. Reminds me a lot of the soundtrack to the Troma classic, Biker Babes in Zombie Town. Outside of that use, the CD doesn't have alot of replay value. It does make me want to get a bunch of people together and do a zombie flash mob though.

5 out of 5 stars THIS MUSIC FOR ZOMBIES AIN'T DEAD EITHER!!!.......2005-01-13

They say zombies crawl out of their graves and eat your brains, and I'm sure that's what happened to me when I heard this CD, because I don't remember a thing, except it SCARED ME! This music is what you'd expect to hear at a wake, or maybe in the cemetary at night when the earth starts moving and headstones begin to fall over and the dead come back to life and roam the town looking for a late-night snack. That's what Music for Zombies is, and that's why you should own a copy if you collect weird stuff. Don't miss out. Get it now (and drive a stake through it!)

5 out of 5 stars Dawn of the Zombies!.......2004-04-08

Dark, menacing, cryptive. Stalking your ear as if it were the meal that the Undead prefer, Music For Zombies strikes. The fear is real, the terror is present. The Danger is that you will not come away from this unchanged. Or perhaps, unchained. Each track is like a new threat on your very soul. Listen, if you dare. Survive, if it lets you!
I did survive, and I did listen. Again and again. I'm hooked. And you will be too. I can't say enough about Zombies, except to say "Enough! I'm scared already!". For now, anyway. Wait, wait, I can't resist. I have to listen again! Agghhh! Care to join me?

5 out of 5 stars "Music for Zombies" is GOOD music!.......2003-09-08

Remember the Warren magazines you read as a kid? You know, titles like VAMPIRELLA, EERIE, CREEPY, and FAMOUS MONSTERS? Remember the ads for all the great stuff, such as the Don Post line of movie monster masks, and records like An Evening With Boris Karloff, Dr. Druids Haunted Seance, and Vampyre at the Harpsichord? Well, those masks and music albums have one thing in common: they were all produced by make-up artist and musician Verne Langdon. He is back with his first album of weird and disquieting music in many years. Music for Zombies is an excellent CD to get for the Halloween season. It is a mix of classic Langdon and new offerings, containing six tracks of new music and three tracks from previous albums.

The opening piece of music, Zombie Sonata, is a spare and memorable composition on piano.. Images from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari came into my mind as I listened to it. It is easily one of Mr. Langdons best pieces.

Other compositions are played on a Wurli-Morton Theater Organ or a steam calliope. On Spirit Symphony, first heard on his album Music for Magicians, Mr. Langdon uses the bell-like celeste of the theater organ (in a way that suggests the innocence of childhood) against a sinister bass line. The composition was used recently in the daytime soap, Passions.

The theater organs vibrato is used to good effect on Hypnotique, creating an eerie sound similar, but more expressive than, the theremin. Here Mr. Langdon juxtaposes a strange melody of lingering notes against a march-like accompaniment of drums.

Carnival of Souls sounds like music you might hear at a circus for the insane. It is a diverting, even raucous piece. Those folks who find clowns scary will be especially disturbed by it.

His longest piece of music on the album is Zombie Suite, which is divided into three movements. This is the most symphonic sounding piece, with swelling horn and string sections. The music here struck me as more melancholy, even romantic, than creepy. After hearing it, I wondered why Mr. Langdon has not gone into composing for film. His compositions are better than some of what I hear at the movies these days. He certainly has the creativity required for music that touches and underscores emotions.

Mr. Langdon is known for his sense of humor (he used to be a gag writer for television) and he has some jokes here: the CD opens with the sound of a coffin opening and it ends with the sound of one closing. One track begins with a rather human-sounding wolf howl and another with a snippet of a funeral march. The CD is subtitled Grave Music for Brave People. Despite all that, the music is not treated lightly, but is well done and worth adding to your collection. I have a lot of music in this vein (no pun intended) and this one ranks with my favorites.

5 out of 5 stars Old-School Horror music!!.......2003-07-16

While listening to this fantastic Cd, I must first confess that I was overwhelmed with the urge to turn on all the lights! This music captures the mood of terror perfectly! Track number 5 entitled Spirit Symphony is so slow, and mythodical, its as if a zombie were slowly sneeking up behind a loved one, and was relunctant to eat their brains, although for its own survival, must eat the brain. Track 4, titled Hypnotique, will do just that! It sounds like a throw back to an old black and white mummy movie, where you can almost picture an army of undead, making their way into the night looking for human brains to eat! And if you ever wondered what a circus full of dead acrobats looks like....well listen to track 6, Carnival of souls and close your eyes. Picture, if you will, the dead ringmaster, pointing up towards the spotlight in the sky, as the undead trio of zombies perform their, Life defying stunts! All in all, this is a great CD for blaring out your windows halloween night, and the songs are so very nicely done that I would even recommend it for a good horror movie or murder mystery independant film! Music for Zombies is a must for fans of music, period.

Album Description

This is Nintendo Punk. Sixteen songs, thirteen about video games, two about junk food, one about freeing the lobsters from the tank at Red Lobster. Gaming songs are about loving Grand Theft Auto 3, being addicted to Aminal Forest, and hating Tomb Raider. Others delve into the inner psyches of fave game characters, like the angst-ridden Rayden on his prom night, a frustrated Renegade lost in the subway, and poor Lolo, faced with the decision of committing suicide (hitting select, to end the game) or living on to fight what he knows is a futile battle. All the important stuff.

Ok, yeah. Everyone's being too "examiny" on this album. It's a pathetic piece of work about video games. But, what the hell, it's funny and it works for me. So if your looking for some deep epic album (Like Pink Floyd: The Wall, which I highly reccomend) get the hell away. (And why would you be searching for "14 Year old Girls", ehh?) But, if your looking for music that a sporratic child with chronic ADD would enjoy, look no further.

4 out of 5 stars Size Does Matter.......2004-09-19

Ok, I like this album a lot but there is one thing everyone else is just glazing over. It's only 17 minutes long. The whole CD only 17 mins. So it's really not worth buying. But then again it is almost imposible to find to download so if you have to get it get a used copy.

5 out of 5 stars Musical Genius.......2004-07-21

There must be two things stated before I go any furthur:
1) Most people are giving judgements based on how they were on X-Play. If every band sounded live like they do on the album, then there's a problem.
2) This is not a band for everyone. You only need apply for the 14 Year Old Girls party if you like bands like The Faint, Gravy Train!!!!, Hawnay Troof, Totally Radd!!, Mindless Self Indulgence, and Atom and His Package.
Now, we begin. 14 Year Old Girls is a very interesting band because they work on two levels: The catchy keyboards and drums get lodged in my brain as I laugh and recall the game they're singing about.
The music is fast, electronic, catchy, and good enough to dance to. This album has inspired me to do the robot on many occassions.
If you're kind of torn on the subject of if you'll like them, scroll up a little. There's 9 thirty second song samples for you. Make your judgement then.
For those who thought these guys were a one-off novelty, you're wrong. On September 28th, their new album, "Strategy Guide" comes out and from what I've heard, it's eight times better than this one.
If you like Nintendo or new wave/keyboard rock, buy this album and support the revolution.

1 out of 5 stars ehhh...interesting?.......2004-03-22

if your high on drugs or had a hangover...this might be a good cd for you, but if your a gamer without any musical talents YOUR AN IDIOT...this is a perfect example of what not to do after playing too too much video games. This is very innovative of them, but its better to hear the music on REAL video games than actual people doing them live...and its true they are 14 year old white girls playing without knowing how to use a keyboard..*cough*pieceofjunk*cough* not worth your money.

4 out of 5 stars A prelude for things to come?.......2003-12-19

First,14YOG are certainly not the best musically(Sounding like a cross between Devo and you banging a keyboard in frustration at a music store). But they make up for it in lyrics.Ok,they arn't John Lennon or Kurt Cobain, but dammit they try!The thing that turns out to be the saving grace is that the songs are generally about Video Games.Video games! For the love of Bog,where on EARTH have you heard songs about Animal Crossing or GTA?!Nowhere fool! Also,as the title implies, there could very well be more bands joining in on this.Think of it,these people could do for Nintendo music what The MIsfits did for Horror-Punk.
