5 out of 5 stars Simply Incredible.......2006-09-11

I will try to be quick with this review.

By looking at these CDs you most probably have watched the movie and liked the music in it, which in my humble opinion was incredible.

So which one to buy then?

The answer is the following one:

If you are looking for more mainstream music, R&B, rock etc. than you should go for the first CD.
If on the other hand, you are looking for an orchestrated music etc., than go for the second CD.

To conclude: If you have watched the movie, the R&B/rock music is mostly found in the first CD (Volume 1) while the slow ballads and orchestras are mostly found in the second CD (Volume 2).

I hope that I could help you ^_^

4 out of 5 stars Possible geniuses?.......2006-06-26

Scores, which can be compared to being the middle child of the movie making machine due to the fact that they are sandwiched in between the movie itself and the soundtrack with the commercially viable (i.e. money making songs), are an underappreciated art form which thankfully Baz Luhrmann and Nellee Hooper helped to show that this need no longer need be the case which has resulted in at least the release of two outstanding scores from contemporary movies: The Matrix Reloaded and Fight Club.
While Star Wars wills always be the score that all others will be measured up to, the genius of Baz and Nellee will help to change the face of this.
Helped by the fact that even if one did not see this version of the film, since most know the story, one can follow all the twists and turns in the plot solely by listening to this CD.
How they have changed the face of scores forever is by incorporating different musical generals (hip hop #3, pop #10, rock #13, and techno #21) which given the scene we heard them in in the film, not only are appropriate, but adds another dimension to the film which draws you in even more.
What is even more remarkable is that this was produced in 1996, prior to the rap/rock mixture and before it looked like techno was poised to become the next big thing.
Genius is not only doing something very well, genius is also doing something that has very rarely been done before; and Luhrman and Hooper showed with volume 2 that the term genius could be applied to them.

4 out of 5 stars Pitch Perfect Score.......2006-02-25

The score to Romeo + Juliet is perfection to say the least, for it captures the pure essence that is the film, that is the story, that is the feel you get while watching the film unfold before you. With the addition of the beautiful instrumental version of Des'rees haunting "Kissing You" and the Ballroom, or Techo version of "Young Hearts run Free" as well as Quindon Tarver's (boy can this kid belt it out) cover of Prince's "When Dove's Cry" you will see that this is more than just a theatrical score. My only beef here is that these three tracks were not better placed on Vol. 1 and the Vol. 2 stuck with the score and the score alone. It would have added to a more fluent ride, and it would have been nice to have all the sung tracks together so you only had to rely on one CD for that. That's it, that's my only complaint. Some have complained becasuse of the inserts of spoken word over some of the score but I welcome it for it adds to the feel you get when watching the brilliant adaptation!

5 out of 5 stars The NV Review.......2006-02-24

This soundtrack is a wonderful way of celebrating the movie "Romeo and Juliet." The soundtrack was wonderful and I highly suggest if you like classical and vocal music, that you should buy this CD. I didn't like the movie pieces in the soundtrack. When you listen to the songs there are a few interuptions of the actors and actresses speaking during the song. All in all I really enjoy it!

4 out of 5 stars i love this movie.......2006-02-15

i love the kissing you instrumental piece.. on the part where they are on the elevator and the balcony scene. the music fits the scenes PERFECTLY. beautiful performances by leo and claire too. it all falls perfectly together.
