The cd came quick, the customer service was great and i like the cd very much.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Haunting -Get this CD.......2007-04-20

Like others have said, i just recently found this treasure, and wow, it blows me away. Darren has one of the best voices in the industry and it is a shame that this CD did not get released in the US on a mass scale. Darkness and Dublin Sky are standout tracks, but as you have heard, they are all great. I highly recommend this CD to anyone that liked Savage Garden or Darren's first solo release - "Spin". Also, he is releaseing a new CD in Summer of 2007 that is said to be a Double CD . Be on the look out for it as i have heard he will be releasing it himself on his own label.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent effort!.......2007-03-08

This is an excellent CD by Darren Hayes! I liked it better than "Spin". I found the songs a bit more catchy than his previous stuff. Many of the songs deal with emotions and emotional issues beyond most vacant pop songs. And there is no sappy stuff like "I Knew I Loved You" or "Truly Madly Deeply" from the Savage Garden days. Good job, Darren, and congrats on coming out! Hope you keep making music!

5 out of 5 stars Why do great albums like this go unnoticed..........2006-10-02

It never fails to amaze me how often that great musical work goes completely unnoticed by the mainstream and radio. This album falls into that category. Each song is great and of course Mr. Hayes' pitch-perfect vocals are always a pleasure to the ears.

If you liked his previous work with Savage Garden, you should definitely pick this CD up - it's definitely worth adding to your collection of favorites!

5 out of 5 stars Sparks fly from this great CD.......2006-09-13

Of course you can't go wrong with an album produced by Darren Hayes...this one is no exception. The lyrics are relatable, intense, and very well written. This CD gives you good, quality music. The beat is infectious. I'm a big fan of #2 I Like the Way and #7 Unlovable. This CD is up there at the top!

5 out of 5 stars Change of heart.......2006-02-28

After Darren's last CD (which was horrible), I was weary to try this new one. But all the reviews said it was much better, so I gave him one last shot. At first, I was dissappointed, and thought I had made a mistake. But then I listened to it again. And again. Rapidly the songs grew on me, and now I listen to it almost daily. Summary: The unique style takes getting used to, but in the end, worth every penny 10-fold.

4 out of 5 stars Very pleased.......2005-10-09

Darren Hayes, on his own, has out-done himself with his work on this CD. His voice is angelic as it always has been and his lyrics are uplifting, deep and full of love. Spiritual, but not hymn music. You can tell he had done a lot of interpersonal discovery by going within and if I didn't know better myself his lyrics reflect the teachings in "A Course in Miracles".
The only thing I am not happy with is that the first half (6 songs) of the CD is alive and engaging and then suddenly the music dives and falls off leaving you feel as if the best part of the CD is the first half. The messages in the last half are fantastic and his voice does not need music with it to make a song a song, but it no longer becomes engaging music. The first half you want to turn it up to hear the full effects of the synthesizer blended with his beautiful voice and the last half you find yourself turning it down. Overall, it's well worth your money simply because of his messages and his voice.

3 out of 5 stars not the best .......2007-01-26

I have been a fan of Darren Hayes since he was part of savage garden. i have both SG cd's and both Darren Hayes cd's. I love DH's Spin a lot. but with Tension and the Spark, i don't like as much. maybe i just need to listin to it more. the problem i have is i can't pinpoint what i dont like about it. but i will give it another try.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant........2006-03-31

I have been a fan of Darren's from the time Savage Garden hit it big with "I Want You" here in the States, and I have never looked back. Darren's voice was always the first thing that impressed me and it still this day is one of only two male voices that can give me chills. Next is his lyrics. Only one word can be used to describe Darren's gifted way of playing with words, and that is: Brilliant. Now, I have the two albums of Savage Garden's, "Affirmation" being the one I prefer out of the two, and I also have Darren's two solo records, obviously...I prefer "The Tension and the Spark" as compared to "Spin". "Spin" sounded to...too...safe. And even Darren himself has stated that his heart wasn't in it while doing that album, and you can tell. With The Tension and the Spark you see Darren "The Artist" emerge triumphantly. Lyrically. Musically. Artistically. This album has it all. He took a risk and it paid off. The electronica infused music and the deeply personal lyrics makes for amazingly delicious ear candy. I've had this cd since its release and I must say it is still so refreshing to listen to, compared to all the garbage on the radio today this is a breath of fresh air. It reminds me of Madonna's "Ray of Light". 1.)It signifies his personal break from what people were used to hearing from him and shows that he has real artistic integrety, and 2.) Like ROL each song sounds so different and fresh even years after its release. His heart went into this album and he succeeded in making a record that anyone and everyone can relate to. A bit of information you guys might find interesting, Darren personally financed this cd himself. The money came directly from his own pocket. And now Darren's working on a new Album and I cannot wait to hear what he has instore for us this time around. A DEFINIOTE MUST HAVE for anyone who loves genuinely great music! Highly recommended!

Much love and light!

5 out of 5 stars Darren, reinvented........2005-09-13

After Darren Hayes's split from Savage Garden in 2001, his first solo attempt Spin seemed laden with the baggage of industry expectation, cookie-cutter ballads, and sticking to safe ground: in short, not a very original record in the long haul. Enter "The Tension and the Spark," a project which Darren tried to deny himself by keeping busy, but which eventually emerged as an epic, largely autobiographical, self-produced gem with poetic lyrics, Darren in top vocal form, and haunting electronic backings.

The fourteen tracks on the Australian release (featuring "Boy") are balanced between literal and figurative light and darkness, evident in song titles ("Light," "Darkness") and lyrics ("I no longer live like a man in the dark"). We find Darren exploring failed relationships ("Dublin Sky," "Unlovable"), rejecting fame ("Pop!ular," "Hero"), and exploring sexuality and gender roles ("Love and Attraction" with the infamous line "I want her/she wants him/he wants me/I give in," and some of the musings in "Boy": "Find a girl/don't sing high/Nobody likes a crybaby boy/Keep your feelings deep inside/Better lift some weights").

The edgy electronic backings, layered choruses, and vocoder effects make this dance-friendly, but the slower, darker numbers are beautiful as well. It is clear how much Darren invested in this project, daring to bare his soul through music in a search for healing, and although the album may not have been a huge commercial success, I believe it to be one of the best albums I've bought in the last several years and definitely among Darren's best work. Take a chance, and you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Darren's best, deepest and darkest album.......2005-05-12

Now THIS is music! Very original; different than you will probably ever hear again. Remarkably intelligent; no cheesy lyrics here.
Mellow in parts, energising in others. This album has it all.
The lyrics are not overly about the wonders of love; rather the way love can go wrong when you least expect it, the ironies, feeling the pain when someone you love's gone. Also about insecurities, overcoming bitterness and forgiving instead and other worries throughout the journey of life.
He pours out his heart and is unrestricting and honest: "How many days am I gonna regret you? How many days until I forget you? Have I been wasting all these years drowning in my tears"
'Light' is one of the best. You can hear his agony as he drags out "you", he harmonises very well in this track. It has absolute beauty in every chord.
'Unlovable' is the one with the most energy and anger. Empowering, catchy track.
He is poetic, has a awesome voice and is even better than in Savage Garden. For every song there would be many who would relate and empathise with his lyrics, especially in 'Love And Attraction'. If you're looking for a romance cd, you're not going to get it here. If you want a blunter, un-sugarcoated, in-reality look at the sometimes hell that is love, definately have a listen. Try this album if you loved the songs and style of Savage Garden.

5 out of 5 stars Excelente compra!!!!!.......2005-04-30

5 out of 5 stars best album yet!.......2007-06-08

This is a more personal album. It's the best of darren hayes's carrer. (in and out of the garden)Despite being a commerical fairlure and only spawning two singles.(Pop!ular and darkness) It has a very unique sound that darren hayes created using bleeps and bloops. I would say that it's an album that everyone through someway or another can relate to. I know I can!

5 out of 5 stars Tension and the Spark- Not to be Missed!.......2004-10-13

This is Darren Hayes' second solo effort and is absolutly
amazing. I recomend you listen more than once before forming
any opinion. The songs are mesmorizing and completely addicting.
Darren has really put his heart into this recording and it
shows. The songs range from original and moving to somewhat
haunting. All are thought provoking, honest and easily related
to. This has quickly become one of my favorite recordings.
This Japanese disc also contains the Pop!ular video. Don't miss it!
And thanks, Darren, for sharing such a personal journey with us.
