Not only does Jessica Simpson know how to light up a room (and a TV series, various awards shows, and a flurry of magazine covers), she's also got a gift for
warming up rooms. If you have yet to feel the heat, look no further than
Re-Joyce, on which things get roasty-toasty in the space of a few tracks. Simpson's is a crooning style that's carol-ready--she toboggans her way through opener "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow" effortlessly enough to make us wish we were riding shotgun; vamps it up on "Baby It's Cold Outside," a duet with husband Nick Lachey; and pounds out the rum-pa-pum-pums impressively with sister Ashlee on "Little Drummer Boy." On more heartfelt numbers like "O Holy Night" and "What Child Is This" the odd vocal quirk that makes it sound as though she's choking back a song rather than singing it surfaces, and at times her singing is a little too Amy Grant-clean, but on balance
Re-Joyce, named for Simpson's late grandmother, supplies welcome kindling in a winter wonderland overgrown with deadwood. --

Customer Reviews:
Nice transaction, horrible CD.......2007-01-19
No problems with the sender. Very nice and without issues. The CD however, was terrible. I bought it for my fiance and I dont think she listened to more than about 2 songs.
More Jessica..........2007-01-10
This CD got boring after the first few songs. They all began to sound alike...for me not a good mix.
Great for Christmas!.......2006-03-29
I love Jessica Simpson and how she has so many ranges with her voice. I loved the songs on the CD. They made me feel like I was in the Christmas Spirit! You go girl
Decent, but not superb.......2006-03-11
Jessica Simpson shelled out more product for the media frenzy made after getting insta-famous due to 2003's MTV Newlyweds, and this is just a tiny piece of it. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to expectations and would probably not have been made if she hadn't received A-list fame due to the so-called "reality" show (which also turned out to be a hock after she admitted to having to act or say certain lines, a.k.a. scripted). Though Simpson once had a powerful instrument, she has lost it among her utteral growls and attempts to sound as sexy as Britney Spears does on record; this is evident on songs like "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)," a beautiful ballad with a lot of potential that Jessica sings throaty--"What Child Is This?" is also a fine example of this new way she sings, as if she's choking on something. There are some decent performances on record here (glitzied up, of course, as anything this "dumb blonde" has done these days) especially on "Baby, It's Cold Outside" where she and then-hubby Nick Lachey pound out a warmy version of the Christmas classic. If you're a Simpson fan then you're sure to find this more intriguing than someone who isn't and solely wants good old Christmas music, but it's a decent, though somewhat disappointing (due to her performances on Rejoyce), attempt nonetheless. The cover art alone is a reason to admire the CD, with a picture of a beautiful Jessica Simpson covering the colors of Christmas (long, curly gold locks against a red background).
