In the six years since her debut CD ...Baby One More Time set Billboard charts a-trembling, Britney Spears has pried open pop music's rusty cage and sprinkled her sex-kittenish fairy dust around like long-overdue disinfectant. She has also arguably done more for the neglected navel than Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce have done for the derriere. But despite her well-earned reputation for boldness (to which releasing a greatest-hits package after just four discs can only add), Britney calls it quits at making claims about her vocal talent. And that works in her favor. Because while My Prerogative is an exciting and even at times superb record, its merits lie almost exclusively in each track's production. From the Abba-esque choruses of her earliest hits ("...Baby One More Time," "Crazy") to the twitching, pulsed-up grooves of 2001's "I'm a Slave 4 U" to the technified bleeps and swizzles of 2003's self-skewering "Outrageous," the pop princess proves she's been largely content to let her in-studio performances take a back seat to the rhythm. With beats as consistently good as the ones she's managed to recruit, though, it's hard to blame her. "Toxic" and "Me Against the Music" mash trance and hip-hop into the mix, and the three previously unreleased joints don't shrink from sliding headfirst into new sound, either. The Bobby Brown cover and title track stomps and bomps to a bared-teeth backdrop, and "Do Somethin'" creates such dancefloor urgency it should come with a siren. "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" treads two steps shy of crossing the Britney-bred boundary between sexy and raunchy, but fans will hope it's autobiographical anyway. For detractors the song--and the disc as a whole--should signal a long wait till the party's over. --Tammy La Gorce

Musical junk food: Not always a bad thing.......2007-07-07
This is a great collection, though, in terms of dance music, with Toxic, I'm a Slave 4 U, Oops I Did It Again, and Baby Hit Me One More Time and more (I still don't like that Madonna collaboration she did, though, just offputting to me!). I wanted something with some poppy, dancey elements to it, and wasn't disappointed. I do love the two new tracks, as they're fun and make you want to dance, though Do Something seemed familiar to me, and then I realized it reminded me of No Doubt, off their Rock Steady album.
I'm not crazy about her ballads, as I don't think her voice is that good (and I find it odd that a lot of her tracks feature a lot of digital manipulation -- why is that? Though I think I know the answer), but I just fastforward and am perfectly happy to listen on, enjoy a little fluff and inject a little energy into my day. It's like junk food, you can't live on it, but sometimes a taste hits the spot.
Great Pop Comp.......2007-05-08
Can you find anyone who will admit to liking this?.......2007-05-07
listen to as much of this album as you can stand, you have to
wonder: did anybody really like this or did they all just agree
that they should? Could the voice track have been erased an
another substituted for it? Could it have been you? me?
I notice that the tabloids are charting the downfall of the
poor child who is the nominal artist on this album and I
wonder if anyone ever seriously thought that she could be anything
more than a footnote.
So this music now-in the light of the artiste's unravelling-can
only make us wonder how gullible we all are, and how gullible we'll
be next time.

Eh.. why not?.......2007-02-03
Definate must-buy for Britney fans.. other than that it's passable.

Britney: Queen of Pop Music.......2005-12-21
From teenage sensation to icon of pop-culture.......2005-03-05
Spears has as many fans as anti-fans, so there are varied opinions about her music. But we must to admit that facts are on Spears' side, because her music achieved not only commercial success with 60 million sold albums and almost twenty hits all over the world, but above all artistic with numerous nominations to the most prestigious music awards including Grammy. And no words can take it back from her. It's simply high quality pop music, that's all. Isn't it ridiculous that such innocent music causes so much anger or even hate in some people? Thanks to this strange mystery these people make Spears' music uncommon in some way.
Spears with all these hits took over the throne from Queen of Pop Madonna and Queen of R'n'B Janet Jackson. That's why she sold much more records during her career than Madonna and Janet put together in the same period of time! And such hits like: "...Baby One More Time", "Oops...I Did It Again", "I'm A Slave 4 U" or "Toxic" are classics in history of pop music already.
This is the best, because the most expanded edition of this set. That's why in this version it's a perfect compilation. It contains 20 songs - all Britney's 17 international hits and 3 brand new songs as well. In this special edition you can also find a bonus CD with 6 very interesting remixes and "Megamix" of her biggest hits.
And it's only beginning...
Her prerogative.......2004-12-07
This contains several of her hit singles, arranged in no particular order -- expect to bounce madly between slinky technopop and bouncy bubblegum with no logic in mind -- the obvious hits like "I'm A Slave 4 U" (future bondage-porn soundtrack?), "... Baby One More Time" and "Oops!... I Did It Again" are set alongside much lesser pop hits like "Toxic," the flaccid Madonna duet, and several others that were more or less forgotten.
Like virtually any other greatest hits album, it has some bonus materials. There are from several remixes, none of which are too good -- for example, the Darkchild Remix of "Overprotected" is a clattery, feedback-laced affair. Spears also releases several previously unheard songs, such as the generic "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" and equally dull "Do Somethin'." The most hyped song is "My Prerogative," an electropop cover of a Bobby Brown song -- with lyrics like "I don't need permission/I make my own decisions," it sounds like an immature, defiant finger-flip at the world. Good luck with that.
Usually "Greatest Hits" albums are put out for one of two reasons. Either a band/singer has been around for eons and has enough glorious songs to fill an entire album, or the label they are/were signed to is trying to cash in. For the latter, think "Best of Mandy Moore," which Ms. Moore had nothing to do with. Sadly, Spears' "Greatest Hits" album is neither -- instead, it feels like an effort to keep her at the forefront of music store displays.
Her music is pretty standard for whatever kind of pop is attempted -- polished and overproduced. And, I might add, very predictable -- virtually every blip and note can be detected before it's heard. While "Toxic" has a halfway decent beat and some electric violins, Spears strikes out with her newer pop melodies, especially the ones that sound a lot like No Doubt covers.
Her image also veers wildly through the various songs, starting off with the sound of a giggly teen who has done something naughty. Then she's launching into the more sexual stuff, especially in the horribly-written "Outrageous" ("Outrageous!/My sex drive/Outrageous!/My shopping sprees...."). But it doesn't feel genuinely sexy -- rather it feels like a little girl dressing up in mommy's lingerie.
And Spears' vocals have never been too good -- her early material displays a voice that is pretty typical for a teenage girl. It has little range, and it's a sort of breathy, thin voice. That doesn't last -- her voice deteriorates over the more recent tracks from her fourth album, becoming drier and more computerized. The sound peaks in "My Prerogative," where Spears sounds like a congested robot.
Everyone has an opinion on Spears' much-publicized love life, but the quality of her pop music is pretty clear. While her early material was innocuous in a teen pop sort of way, her pop ditties have only deteriorated with time.
the track listing isn't exact on Bonus Disc. SURPRISES..........2004-12-07
1. Toxic (armand van helden remix)--The disc's case calls this the "edit" but it is indeed the full 9 minute and 34 second version found on the US 12" single, not the 6 and a half minute edit found on the US bonus disc.
2. Everytime--the track listing is WRONG here on Amazon. This is not a Valentin mix. it's the same hi-bias radio edit from the US edition.
3. Breathe on Me--same Jacques Lu Cont mix as US bonus disc.
4. Outrageous--same Junkie XL Dancehall mix as US bonus disc.
5. Stronger(miguel mig's vocal mix)--this boring 6 and a half minute version is on the US CD single for this song.
6. I'm a Slave 4U--this is the FULL 8 minute and 46 second thunderpuss mix from the US 12" single, finally on CD!!!
7. Chris Cox megamix--same 5 minute version as on the US bonus CD.
Hope this helps all the collectors. It's worth it for Tracks 1 and 6 on CD, I'd say.

No choice but bashing the critics........2005-07-08
Many artists have great (read: better) voices and stunning looks, but some of them are not seen or heard for tooo long. This naive girl must be doing something really clever, i guess :) .
In the end, Great beats, catchy vocals, and dispite her status a female who most (!) poeple can relate to, boy or girl. How great her support may have been, and still is: This road isn't ment for just anybody to walk on. And I believe her Best time is still yet to come. A 'must have' for at least(!) anyone her age. History still in the making......

amazing album!.......2004-12-23
1. MY PREROGATIVE (9/10) Amazing Cover! this song is very cool, i don't know why this song didn't have the success that everyone espect! but anyway was #1 in MTV México!
2. TOXIC (12/10) what can't i say about this song, it's the best song of Britney! i love this song, this is really a Brtieny Spears' Worldwide #1!
3. I'M A SLAVE 4 U (12/10) Damn it Britney! amazing Song, i love this song since i heard it on the Radio! for this song a became a Britney Fan!
4. OOPS! I DID TI AGAIN (8/10)well i like this song, i remember that a girl on my elementary school had the single and i heard it i just say "It's cool".....but IT'S GREAT!
5. ME AGAINST THE MUSIC (Feat. Madonna) (7/10) well, this song is SoSo, i don't like it that much as the others, i like the "Richi Rich's Desi Kulcha Mix" included on the album: "In The Zone", I HAVE TO SAY the Britney Version (without Madonna) IS MUCH BETTER!, I Don't Hate Madonna, i like her alot, but i don't like this song.

My Prerogative .......2005-12-07
This is a pop album that is targeted mainly to two audiences: the young and the people who do group workout (like step aerobics). Because of Billboard and MTV's excellent awards ratings, all the radio stations played her new songs regularly. In addition to that, her videos and DVDs are selling excellently in the market. Spears quickly became a famous artist among the young audience. Her image veers wildly through the various songs, starting off with the sound of a giggly teen that has done something naughty. Then she is launching into the more sexual songs, especially in My Prerogative. In my opinion, this is a big change for her, and she is making a transition to performing as an adult artist. Spears has done more in the last seven years: she has been in the music industry; she has paved the way for many young artists; and she has been a role model for a lot of young fans. "Toxic" is a very good song, and the music has good rhythm. I like the following lyrics in this song:
You're toxic
I'm slipping under
With a taste of poison paradise
I'm addicted to you
Never the less "...Baby One More Time" is my favorite song in this album. This was Spears' first album. This is the song that defined Spears back in the days when she used to be innocent. This song has good rhythm and the lyrics are excellent. Because of that, I like this song during my step aerobics class. `My Prerogative' is the big word and some of the lyrics bothered me. Spears is basically complaining about people getting into her personal business. She goes on saying that she does not care about what other people think about her. The pictures in this DVD are very sexy and it is not suited for the younger audience.
The worst song in the album is "Lucky." This song is about a girl named Lucky who cries all the time and is depressed. However, it does not make any sense why she is crying all the time and why her emotion has been down. She thought that she has nobody to see and love. This song is overplayed and it is incredibly annoying.
By late 1998, Britney's "...Baby One More Time" was beginning to impact radio stations and MTV. The song became an international success, earning platinum sales and going to number one in the USA, as well as in the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. In that year, Spears took home four Billboard music awards, including Female Artist of the Year. At the American Music Awards, she was nominated for three trophies, of which she won one: Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist. This is one of her best songs. In 2000, Spears' "Oops! I Did It Again" also debuted at number one in the USA and Canada. This record was also a critical success, with Rolling Stone giving the album 3.5 stars out of 5 and making her a true child of the rock and roll tradition. The most recent album, My Prerogative, was released in November, 2005 and did not have enough time for the 2004 awards. I think that it will do better in the 2005 awards.
In a short time, Spears has achieved so many things: she released new albums; she performed songs at the award shows; she won musical awards; and she hosted the music award shows. Spears has achieved more than Christina Aguilera. Both started from the Disney channel for a spot on the New Mickey Mouse Club. After that, both started as pop artists; however, Spears did better than Aguilera. Now, Spears is one of the most famous celebrities.
Spears has been married twice and recently gave birth to a baby boy. This may turn out to be the turning point of her career. Because of all the changes that she has experienced in her life, Spears' views may change for good and she will produce better songs in the future.
