The contrivance level is high on this debut by an R&B singer named for her out-of-bottle hair color. La Face Records' latest female discovery is positioned midway between mainstream hip-hop soul and poor imitations of Kelis-style anger. Producer-writer She'kspere brings out his trademark machine beats for "There You Go," a pale copy of "You Oughta Know"; still, that single's more artful than "Split Personality," which clumsily attempts to acknowledge three-dimensional human reality but really sounds like a fit of whining until Pink unleashes the inevitable melisma over the song's coda. Elsewhere, she makes nice on standard-issue ballads ("Stop Falling") and lite-reggae proclamations of love ("Private Show"). "I just wanna make you feel things," Pink sings at one point. Unfortunately, the emotion the cynical Can't Take Me Home inspires most is annoyance. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Another fantastic performance by PINK.......2007-06-10

Once again another beauty album by Pink. They just keep getting better and better!

4 out of 5 stars good second album.......2007-03-26

This album builds on lessons learned from Pink's first release "Misunderstood". It has some more polish and finese, but still maintains that hard edged "I'm gonna tell it like it is" style that makes Pink, Pink. I really love her bold confidence and pure scrappy attitude. She is a good performer and has a strong sultry voice. I am collecting her work in reverse order starting with "Try This" and finding the early albums great glimpses of what was to come later in her career. She is a strong person and will be around for a long time.
Go Girl! You kick major A## Pink !

4 out of 5 stars great... i suppose .......2007-01-18

i heard all the stuff that pink has done since lady marmalade and i was curious about this album.
First of all, i was prepared for hear some r&b stuff but i was really suprised with this album.
I'm not a r&b fan, i'm a pop fan but pink makes something special with this rythms... she demostrates once more that she rocks for real!

3 out of 5 stars Okay, but nothing special.......2006-11-10

I purchased Pink's later three albums before I picked this one up. I really like Try This and I'm Not Dead, both are really solid albums and show how Pink has matured as an artist. Can't Take Me Home is not a bad album just doesn't compare well with the later work.

2 out of 5 stars Can't Take Me Home .......2006-09-06

I really dragged me feet on getting this disc because I have a real pet peeve about music artists who debut singing a particular genre of music then switch up on their sophomore releases saying "THIS IS THE REAL ME - THE LABEL MADE ME SING THAT OTHER STUFF". I was disgusted by Pink's switcheroo but remained curious enough about her debut cd that I finally decided to buy it.

After a few listens, I am decidedly underwhelmed by the disc mainly because Pink's voice is unrecognizable on most tracks and also to me there are no real stand out tracks. The only tracks I enjoyed listening to are:

HELL WIT YA - love her quick almost talking vocals a la Beyonce

MOST GIRLS - although the lyrics are monotonous, Pink sounds fantastic along with the interesting beats

LET ME LET YOU KNOW - beautiful ballad

LOVE IS SUCH A CRAZY THING - honestly, the music production & background harmonies are more interesting than Pink's solo vocals

STOP FALLING - very pretty ballad that showcases her voice

I really wouldn't recommend this disc because it's pretty generic "hip pop" with no truly standout songs unless you're really curious about Pink's debut to the music world (and can get the disc real cheap).

Writer/director James L. Brooks' warm-hearted comedy revolves around the culture clashes spawned when an L.A. family (headed by Adam Sandler and Tea Leoni) take in a Mexican maid (Paz Vega) and her daughter. As he's done for previous collaborations with Brooks on As Good As It Gets and I'll Do Anything, composer Hans Zimmer conjures up a smartly effervescent musical score that stands in stark contrast to the McAction film bombast that has too often made his reputation. His light-hearted, sometimes bittersweet orchestral score tips its cross-cultural concerns from the opening bars of the title track, which sets the delicate flourishes of a solo flamenco guitar against the starched rhythms of a chamber string ensemble. Guitarist and longtime Zimmer collaborator Heitor Pereira furthers that gambit with his self-written "John Comes Home," a delightful cue that cross-pollinates the waltz and tango with deceptive breeziness. Co-stars Cloris Leachman and Ian Hyland close the inviting soundtrack out with a spirited rendition of Gershwin's "They Can't Take Away From Me." --Jerry McCulley

Wonderful story.
Great message for over-achieving self-centered soccer moms.

4 out of 5 stars 3 masterpieces again!Zimmer read this post! .......2005-01-18

I'm a great Zimmer fan.Since Days of thunder.
In 1997 zimmer composed 3 masterpieces.Peacemaker(please get expanded score)As good as it gets and Prince of egypt.
This past year zimmer do it again.3 masterpieces:
1.King arthur(the best crimson tide-esque score to date. With the best of prince of egypt, backdraft, gladiator and ronin from last samurai)
2-The last samurai(the best the thin red line-esque.Amazing score, but with horrible action parts(some additional arranger failed here eheheh)
3.Spanglish(be best nine months-esque.his clear inpirations the brig track from Road to el dorado and Nyah from spanglish.)
I'm a little bit dissapointed for the use of so many additionals arrangers.Specially in spanglish.Because I want apreciate note by note and Know is composed by Hans. But well...i guess is the price to be a genius like zimmer is.
I hope next year zimmer composed a great score with orchestra for madagascar and i hope the best for batman begins.
But i want make a Wish....."zimmer please leave so many aditional arrangers in your scores.Maybe in this way Golden globoe or oscar will go to your hands"
My favourite zimmer are:Prince of egypt, beyond rangoon,Peacemaker,Last samurai, broken arrow,as good as it gets and k2.
thanks for all your music and I hope some day You put a pic of Zoe and your miniZ's in one of your cd releases.I want to know how beautyfull Zoe is!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Hans, congrats on a job well done.......2005-01-17

Dear Hans,
Thanks so much for the gift that you've given to all of us as film score fans to kick off the year 2005. Spanglish is your most delicate score to date, and it's absolutely fabulous. It's music that really supports the movie rather than distracts from it, making the images and relationships on the screen stronger. I love the way you've fused a Spanish flavor into the romantic orchestra music without making it seem overly obvious or cliched. The score worked for me in much the same way the film did... It began nicely enough, and as it approached the end, it had subtly grabbed at my heart, and I knew all the themes. Then, in your "Bus Stop" finale, when the orchestra really soared in a gorgeous way with them, it was almost enough to make me cry. That may sound a bit wimpy, I know, but it was music I could really feel, it touched me. Thanks. I enjoy the more masculine electronically-enhanced action scores you've done, of course, but it's great to hear you dive into a gentle, light, touching, purely orchestral score. I really believe you've grown stronger and more mature as a composer in recent years. 2003's "Tears of the Sun" was a mixed experiment, but the production values were stunning, I adored the quirky Mathcstick Men, and "The Last Samurai" ranks as one of your career highlights in my mind. "King Arthur" and "Thunderbirds" were also a load of fun. I saw on IMDB you have five (?) films slated for this year. Here's hoping each one of those scores gets a release, I'm sure they'll be worth my money. Thanks again for Spanglish, and for all your great scores. I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Although she was initially viewed as yet another face in the late-'90s crowd of teen pop acts, Pink quickly showed signs of becoming one of the rare artists to transcend and outgrow the label. This 2 CD set features her debut album Can't Take Me Home, and the follow up Missundaztood. BMG. 2005.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A great buy but slightly disappointing.......2006-04-30

This 2 cd set contains the Germany releases on Pink's first 2 albums 1. "Can't take me home" and 2. "Missundaztood". It is a great buy because it is inexpensive and you get 3 bonus tracks you won't get on the US versions 1. "There you go" Remix 2. "Most girls" Remix 3. "Catch 22". "Can't take me home" is slightly disappointing because the word "S#!+" is used on the song "There you go". It is censored out of the song and the remix on the cd. Otherwise, It is a great buy

      5 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for Value.......2006-02-18

I was thrilled when I saw this double pack. Mainly it was because this costs less than the Can't Take Me Home album alone AND it comes with the M!SSUNDAZTOOD album, too. The two albums are also the UK import CD so they come with bonus songs. M!SSUNDAZTOOD has an extra song called "Catch-22" and Can't Take Me Home has two remixed songs: "There You Go (Sovereign Mix)" and "Most Girls (X-Men Vocal Mix)". I am completely satisfied with these CDs and BELIEVE ME when I say it is WELL worth the extra wait.
