The Hanson Life Philosophy!.......2006-12-07

This album is terrific! Hanson picked out all the songs they want you to hear again & gave you new versions of them. I think the thing that makes this group so exciting is their unlimited potential. This potential is there because they write songs based on their life philosophy. At its core this Hanson Life Philosophy is centered around the song they like to call "MMMBop" which also happens to be the song that made them famous. It is track #11 on this cd & it is the best one in my opinion. Oddly enough, this Hanson Life Philosophy happens to be the antithesis of what Dr. Laura Schlessinger preaches on her radio show. Let's pick apart "MMMBop" & delve into the very heart of what these 3 great philosophers are trying to convey.
"You have so many relationships in this life" Wow! The bell rings for round 1 & Hanson starts out with a haymaker! This quote refers to the touchy subject of promiscuity & while they don't come out & endorse it, they don't attack it either like most prudes.
"Only 1 or 2 will last" This states that divorce is not the big deal people make it out to be. 2 relationships in life are just as good as 1.
"You're going through all this pain & strife then you turn your back & they're gone so fast." This refers to all the pain & suffering in the World & just by turning your back it can easily be ignored.
"So hold on to the ones who really care in the end they'll be the only ones there" This deals with the superficial people that dominate America & how one should shun these people.
"When you get old & start losing your hair can you tell me who will still care" This simply states that you lose sex appeal as you age & real friends won't care.
"Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose you can plant any one of those keep planting to find out which one grows it's a secret no one knows" This is the thesis of their song & their philosophy. The seeds and flowers are symbolic of the human race & how we never know what makes one person grow into a spiritually wise person like Martin Luther King Jr. or makes one turn into an intolerant person. The secret no one knows means Hanson believes in BF Skinner's behaviorism. There is a way to grow a rose like person but it is a secret that we haven't cracked yet.
So there it is, Hanson's Life Philosophy. I think these guys are sages. Zac was probably too young when this song was written to have had much influence over it. So this may be all Taylor & Isaac's creation. All 3 try to weave it into all of the songs they write. I highly recommend you buy this cd/dvd & wait for their next release for more words of wisdom.

The Music Lives but the Acoustic ROCKS!!!.......2006-10-02

This is a great album, don't get me wrong! However, I don't think it's as good as their acoustic concert. I purchased "Underneath Acoustic" before "Live & Electric" and was amazed by their mature harmonious sound in the acoustic concert, having not heard any of their music since "This Time Around" album. The "Live & Electric" concert wasn't as clear and concise and actually left me a little disappointed. My 5 year old son and myself love "Penny & Me" and couldn't wait to play it, but after hearing it, went back to the acoustic version. I don't know, maybe in my middle age I prefer their softer sound!!!
Anyway, rock on boys and as Taylor's t-shirt says "THE MUSIC LIVES"

Mature and Marvelous!.......2006-06-04

From MMMMBop to Penny & me,Hanson has grown up well! The songs are lively,poignant and beautiful,and show the maturity of these boys...now men. I am most impressed to find that they write their own music,play the instruments and do not rely on others to make the sound for them. I happen to think that they got labeled "Boyband" from their MMMBop days,and are not being given a fair shake as serious musicians.I am in my late 30's and very much enjoy the harmonious trio. I find the songs catchy,upbeat and full of decent,uplifting,unprofane lyrics...stuff you can actually sing to!
Cheers to Hanson...their music is teriffic and so are they! I hope this is only the beginning of great discs from this great group!

I would have to say that this is a great album. Its amazing how this band came out of a teenie bopper image at the time when all this new boy bad craze was out. They turned into this classic Rock style of music no other band has that. The ablity to be pop with a little classic rock feel. I love this album.. Although I really wish they would re-do Middle of Nowhere and put it out now. The songs on that album would be brought to a whole new level and I think would turn out better then the first!

Great Hanson!!!.......2006-03-30

It's something very special about Hanson a lot of popular artists today can't match! I think God is very present through these guys in the music they make! They are great singers and songwriters that deserve to be at the top of modern music.

I have liked Hanson ever since the beginning, but I think everything began to move too fast after they released their first couple of albums. I think they got victims of the commercial pace and really didn't have time to create the music they really wanted to create and released a couple of non-hit albums as a consequence. Time got in their way. It takes time to make great stuff and I think they have learned that now.

Hanson has truly taken a huge step forward in terms of music production and phrasing in this album. They perform with strong presence and emotion that will touch anyone that listens to this album. By listening to these versions of their songs you can tell that they are finding their way back home to where they belong. With this album they did a great decision: Let's take our most beautiful songs and make them even more beautiful. In my opinion they have turned some of their non hit songs into hits in this album! That shows they have reached the next level!

Great Hanson! I can't wait for more stuff from you guys!

Just doesn't translate well in a live setting.......2005-11-16

The Good
You get to hear fifteen of Hanson's biggest and most popular songs all on one disc. If you listen carefully, you'll discover that they are great songwriters. The Hanson brothers also pull of some great vocal melodies on songs like " Strong Enough to Break", "Underneath", and "Rock and Roll Razorblade". But...

The Bad
They sound a lot different now that they're older. Hey I'll admit it, I was a secret Hanson fan. You almost had to be if you're a guy. I had the "MmmBop", "Where's the Love", and "This Time Around" singles. I loved the brightness, high production, and musicianship of all of them. After having heard those songs live (and after the group's voices changed), I realized it's just not the same. The mix seems uneven at times, especially when the band harmonizes. On a few of the tracks (Hanson's cover of Radiohead's "Optimistic" in particular), the band is drowned out by the thunderous crowd reaction. Although, I understand how hard it must be to silence a mass a screaming girls.

The Verdict
Hanson's signature brand of well-produced, upbeat, pop rock just doesn't translate well in a live setting, plain and simple. Give me the studio versions of this material and I will eat it up for sure.

I have the US version of Live and Electric and it is wonderful. But having "Deeper" and "In the City" was great. Hanson never ceases amaze me! This cd is for every fan and everyone who thinks Hanson are a bunch of kids that sing like girls... Hanson proves they can rock with the best of them.
Amazing cd! I recommend it to everyone!!!!

they really know how to put on a show.......2006-12-05

As a hanson fan, i may be a little bias in telling you that i think this is a great, great album, but the shocked expressions on my friends faces after i tell them the songs they've been rocking out to are those "girlie looking boys who sang mmmbop" has told me that i'm not just blinded by my own personal love of these guys. Hanson, unfortunately, has a bad rep for being a boy band because their biggest hit was when the oldest member was a mere 16. It's really sad because those young boys grew up to be very talented musicians, songwriters and performers. The best of hanson; Live and electric is a reminder to me of how much Isaac, Taylor and Zac have been a part of my life for the past 9 years. But, hey it might even be better if you haven't been a fan for all that time as it means you can enjoy hanson at their best, straight away. I urge you to buy this album, kick back, relax and listen to some damn good music.
