Grammy Nominees 2005

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Nobody hates a cliché more than a conscientious record reviewer, but the fact is there are no losers on Grammy Nominees 2005. Though not all the acts represented here walked away with a golden statuette for their efforts, many —including Alicia Keys, Los Lonely Boys, and Maroon 5 —did, and the ones that didn't handily demonstrate why they earned the nod. Gretchen Wilson represents all that's right with modern country via her inescapable "Redneck Woman," and the genre jumble of relative newcomers Kanye West, Joss Stone and Josh Groban likewise make the case for keeping the radio dial spinning. Older listeners are the real winners here, though: Brian Wilson, Elvis Costello, Prince and U2 pull former awards-show junkies into the present and confer generational props at the same time. -Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2007-06-02

I like these collections as a short-hand way of finding out what's happening in pop music these days. I like the opportunity to be exposed to things I might not otherwise listen to. It's too bad that all the Grammy nominees couldn't appear here but, hey, music is a business after all. All in all a good investment.

5 out of 5 stars FULL SPECTRUM MUSICAL COMPENDIUM.......2007-03-23

WOW! What a collection! Just like fine wine, you get good years and then you get better years. This is the latter. Some years (that will remain anonymous to protect the guilty), the Grammy collection is overweighted with what sounds like ONE SONG performed by different groups. No such worries here.

So sit back, enjoy a bottle of your favorite wine (or, if with the Gretchen Wilson Tailgate Party, your on-sale bargain brew) close your eyes and travel the landscape of the year that was 2005 (or, if with the G.W.T.P., yodel).

1 out of 5 stars Total garbage........2006-01-23

This collection shows us, Jack and Jill public, how narrow minded the Grammy voters are today. Not one track on this so-called collection is worthy of a listen or a grammy nod. QUIET.

1 out of 5 stars The Verdict Is In . . ........2005-12-10

YAAAAAAAAWWWWWWNNN! Don't even bother buying and listening to this CD. Every song on here lacks emotion, meaningful lyrics, and any type of memorable melody. Standards are set so low that any untalented fool can get a record deal, sample to their hearts content, and win a Grammy. Skip this and get Stevie Wonders greatest hits collection.

3 out of 5 stars Just okay.......2005-08-18

I've purchased these since 2002 and was not pleased with this one...I would check out the songs before you buy this round.

1 out of 5 stars Latin Grammy CD a Disappointment.......2006-03-11

Latin music usually refers to salsa, merengue, ballads, norteña, etc. This cd had way too much Reggaeton - a new genre of rap/reggae which appeals to the youth. Some of it is a bit on the vulgar side. I feel as if I wasted my money. Talking out a song is not singing - and this Reggaeton should be in a category of its own.
