4 out of 5 stars Oktoberfest is the Best.......2007-01-09

Was lucky enough to go to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany during 2006 and wanted to bring a little piece of Oktoberfest (Music) home with me.

Could not find what I was looking for in Germany so I came home and ordered the Oktoberfest music from Amazon.

Great.

4 out of 5 stars Bavaria in Music.......2006-11-11

OK - I liked it. It may not be all beer drinking Oktoberfest music but it is good Bavarian music and some marches. I grew up there and I liked most of the music. Still, I was hoping for some real oompa music too.

3 out of 5 stars Not Much Oktoberfest Music Here.......2006-08-01

As manager of "The Oktoberfest Webring," I am always on the lookout for CD's of good Oktoberfest music. I found this CD disappointing because it not only featured various artists (instead of just an Oktoberfest band), but also contained a significant number of non-Oktoberfest selections from a CD called "Folksongs From Bavaria."

5 out of 5 stars Good Oom-pah Band Music.......2005-10-06

As the manager of "The Oktoberfest Webring," I thoroughly enjoyed this album. Geared for American audiences, all of the songs were tuneful, and most of them are familiar to Americans. Some were sung in German, some in English, and some were bilingual. The voices were pleasant, the sound quality was excellent, and each rendition was lively, colorful, and entertaining. The whole presentation was quite professional, done in good taste, and definitely NOT a brawl scene. I highly recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars Hardly an Oktoberfest Favorite.......2006-09-26

The CD is a cheap make with a lousy orchestra, not at all symbolic of a Beer tent "Kapelle"
Knowing Oktoberfest in person, I can say, except for a few songs, none of them are played in a beer hall at the Oktoberfest in Munich.

There is at least one or more new "Wies'n Hits" every year and none are on this CD.
Don't waste your money buying this crap. It goes into the trash immediately.

3 out of 5 stars Not a Very Good Example of Oktoberfest Music.......2006-05-02

As manager of "The Oktoberfest Webring," I am always on the lookout for good sources of Oktoberfest music. Unfortunately, this CD is not one of them. The sound quality and the music itself are too uneven in quality. Some numbers are performed by an Oktoberfest band, while others are performed by a full orchestra. Still others are performed by a solo voice accompanied by a small ensemble. This CD would be much better entitled, "A Potpourri of German Music." Only when viewed in that light does it provide a tolerably pleasant listening experience.

5 out of 5 stars This CD makes me so happy!.......2006-01-18

Boy, I sure do love Oktoberfest! There's nothing about it that I don't love! It's just about as much fun as a human being can have on the face of this planet! And what a lovely sunshiney day! What did you just say, Kevin? You wanna buy the first round of beers? Well, I'm not going to be the one who stands in your way!
Hey, that's funny- we just started drinking, and this song they're playing here, not kidding, it's called "Drink Drink Drink"! Thanks for the hefeweizen, Kevin. No, it's good, really. It's delicious. Honestly, I'll admit it, I'm not that much of a hefeweizen guy, but this one's not bad at all. Wow, you drank that pretty quick there. Give me a second to catch up. Ahhhhh! That went down smoother than normal. Boy, my whistle's really wet now!
What? Chicken dance? No, not yet. It's too early. Besides, there aren't enough good-looking frauleins on the polka floor. Another beer? Sure, don't mind if I do! Ahhh! This beer's going down even better than the first. Wait a sec, do you hear that? It's "Mein Vater War Ein Wandersmann", the oompah-band version of "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"! Awesome! Polka meets Motown- sweeter than sweet! Yes, I'm positive you can't buy a Jager bomb here, Kevin. Jagermeister is from Germany, that's true. No, it's just that Oktoberfest is a family event, they aren't going to sell anybody shots of liquor and energy drink. I bet you can't even get hard liquor here. Well of course I want another beer, are you crazy?
"Zum Volksfest"! Yes, yes! Onward to Zum Volksfest! That's means "the people's fest" in German, Kev. I'm really starting to get into the swing of it now. Taking German in high school really paid off. Hey, remind me to eat a bratwurst later, would ya?
No, you're right. The Germans did some pretty bad stuff too. No, I hear ya, loud and clear. Of course I think it's terrible. Honestly, you're preaching to the choir, Kevin. Hey, you wanna know what's not terrible? This here hefeweizen in this here plastic beer stein! Well, I must say that I'm disinclined to argue with you at this juncture- if you wish to go to "die bierstube" to get us a refill, far be it from me to stand in the way of your mission.
Ahhhhhh! That's good stuff. Hey, is that "Bayerisch Geschichten"! This song's awesome! No, it is a polka. No, I don't know what it means. I mean, I kinda do but not, like... oh, excuse me, sir. Didn't mean to stumble into your table and spill beer on your daughter's shirt. I tripped over that darn cable there. Really, I apologize. Hey, let me buy you a beer to make up for it! No? Are you sure? Are you a real German? No, only kidding sir. Well, have a good Oktoberfest all the same!
Hey, let's have another beer. Kevin, what time do we need to get back to work? We're about to be late? Really? No, I'm good, still got quite a bit left in this one. We should think about finishing up and heading on out? Well, all right, but if you want another one, then I'll have another one with you. It's a beautiful day after all. I don't think God made days like this in order for us to be cramped up inside of our cubicles! Well, if all you want is water, at least hang out for a bit while I have one more...
No, of course we need campaign finance reform! No, the lobbyists screw our nation's affairs so royally! It's not that... it's that we're up to our necks in a huge pile of... oh, pardon me there, sir. You okay? Didn't mean to bump into you. No, I'm only a quarter German actually. My grandparents came over at the turn of the century, but I'm an honest-to-god German through and through! Ellis Island? Sure, you bet. Where are you from? No, let me buy you a beer! Hey Kevin- this guy's from Vienna! Yeah, I know, here of all places! What's you name, dude? Felix? You're officially on my good list Felix! Prosit!
Felix is freakin' awesome! Hey, say what you just said to me, Felix. Did you get that, Kevin? You know what it means? Aw, man! This guy's real funny. Hey thanks for the beer. You, me, and Felix- we're shutting this place down tonight! That's it, end of discussion. Oh, of course it's all right, Kevin!
Polka music's overrated. Wait, I mean underrated! No, stop laughing, I meant underrated! I mean, seriously, I mean it when I say, wait, this song's awesome too... wait, where was I?.. hold on... yeah no I mean that every other country's musical heritage uses the accordion. No, Kevin, it's not time to go back to work. Everyone else here understands that. Why don't you understand that? Oh, wait, you're going to be Mister High n' Mighty on me? Well, I've got two words for you, Kevin- Chicken Dance, Mother****er! Yeah, that's right. You know what... hey, huh?... hey Felix, see those two frauleins over there, shut up, Kevin, seriously, Felix, do you see them? Yeah, no... well I mean totally, they totally are in need of some German male companionship. This German love train needs a conductor!
Sure, I'm mad those girls walked away. But the best part about Oktoberfest, Felix, is that you get to celebrate your German heritage. I mean, the best thing about being German and all, no, shut up and listen..., no I don't know where my friend is, thank you. And those girls were total Weibchen. You know what I'm saying! You and me, Felix! You're my guy!
Dude, I do not know how I plan on getting home. What's your plan? You gotta car? Hey, you think they got Jager bombs here? Man, that would be so awesome at this juncture! Dude, for real!
I'm gonna see if the band knows "Winds of Change" by Scorpion. That'd be so awesome! Germany, dude.... it's... wha? You want another cerveza? I mean, beer? Just say the word, monsieur. After all, you're my guy! As is Germany!

1 out of 5 stars Defintely do not buy this.......2007-02-17

This CD features very lousy live recordings and indeed several repeated tracks. While the repeated tracks are alternate versions playing a song without the background noise of the beer hall, the fact that they bothered to do that makes me wonder why they didn't include only the less noisy version on the CD and make room for more badly recorded original material. There are plenty of German drinking/folk CD's on Amazon that are better than this. Go check those out.

1 out of 5 stars Boring music, poor production - AVOID! .......2006-12-19

I have an extensive collection of Oktoberfest and European polka music and this could be the worst disk in the bunch. The song selection seems like a random mix of 2nd rate semi-pro bands and poor beer hall recordings. It doesn't help that the music production, sound clarity, fidelity, mixing is also terrible.

Here's the worst part: they actually repeat songs on the disk. Song 13 is the same song 1!! I think song 3 is also a repeat!! So, the extensive list of music is maybe about 2/3 of what's listed.

    Again - steer clear!

5 out of 5 stars Totally incorrect, but totally awesome........2005-04-22

The information on this cd is indeed incorrect. 39 tracks are listed, but only about 23 are on the cd. Some of those songs even repeat. That logic has been proven correct. QED

However, I don't care. This cd has some of the best atmosphere for celebrating Oktoberfest I've ever heard. We used to do a radio show on WNUR in Chicago, and this made for fantastic background music. Catchy polkas, loud groups singing, corks popping, raucous toasts, hooting- pure atmosphere. It delivers what the title says. Know these things going in, catch it at a decent price, and hopefully you won't be disappointed. We still use it on trips to the wine country- makes me laugh every time.

    1 out of 5 stars misinformation.......2003-10-28

The CD which comes in this case is actually A CD by the same name with the picture of a German Beer maid on the front cover. This is very disappointing because the advertised CD is far superior.

    1 out of 5 stars misinformation.......2003-10-28

Be careful. There are two CDs with the same name, this one and one with a german beer maid on the front cover. All of these reviews reflect the cd with the German girl. I bought this cd expecting about 40 tunes, and I got the other CD in this cover (Munich street). I was obviously disappointed. This is a real problem for those who play the CD and are no longer able to return it.

4 out of 5 stars Oktoberfest Year Round!!!.......2002-08-25

I've always enjoyed the festival atmosphere of the German Beer Hall and have on more than a few occasions tried to turn the humble Hoppy abode into a hoppin' house of heife-weizen and funlovin' frauleins. This wonderful cd was just the little item I needed to give it that last dose of realism. Believe me, my Chicago born-wife Bessie (or one of my girlfriends) dressed up in a German beermaid custom is a lot more believable with this authentic music in the background (usually we would just put on a Scorpions' cd).

The point is this: The German Beer Hall music on this cd is a great start to a fun-lovin, fraulein-... evening. As you'd expect, the festivities start with "A Toast". This is a good time to hoist up the first of several steins of your favorite beverage. Most of the music on this disc is German-beer hall style, but sung in English. You'll get the gist of what fun you should be having with song titles like "Klarinettenmuckl" (I think you KNOW what that's all about), "Love of Life", "Now We Drink One More Bottle of Wine", and the wonderfully suggestive "Flower Pot in Front of the Green Wreath" to close it out. This music will have you toasting and dancing the night away. The only complaint I can make is that the sound quality is not top-notch. Nevertheless, the attractive cover and the 23 songs paying homage to German Beer Hall fun make this a worthy purchase! Enjoy!!!

4 out of 5 stars Swing Your Beer Steins.........2000-09-20

This CD certainly sets a festive mood and ambience. There is no mistaking the environment created by a rousing Beer Hall. This music turns any event into the Hofbrau Haus. The overall quality of the CD could be improved; however, it basically only adds to the authenticity of the recording ....

3 out of 5 stars Sounds Like A Drunken Brawl Set To Music.......2006-04-30

As manager of "The Oktoberfest Webring," I am always on the lookout for CD's of good Oktoberfest music. The Oktoberfest band on this CD is excellent, and it does a great job of playing a large number of typical Oktoberfest selections. What spoiled this CD for me, however, was the fact that practically every number is accompanied by people singing, shouting, laughing, clapping, whistling, and general merrymaking--all of which I found very distracting. In fact, it got so bad in spots that the music was almost drowned out. If you want party atmosphere, then this is the CD for you. As for me, I choose music over noise any day.
