Customer Reviews:
Commentary.......2005-05-21
The conducting is excellent -- I have heard 3 other "live" performances of "Il Corsaro" in my lifetime, but none of the other conductors could "tie up the seams" and "close the gaps" as Carlo Franci did here.
This "Il Corsaro" is actually in quite good sound compared to many others in the "La Fenice" series. There is some onstage (or backstage?) noise, but it is minimal. The orchestra sounds a bit thin, but the voices are very forward. There is very little audience noise. I could hear no audible hiss, hum, crackling or dropout; and the pitch is steady. Even though the sonic quality of this 1971 performance is nowhere near that of a high quality present day 21st century recording, it is more than adequate for the time and place it was recorded.
