5 out of 5 stars Finding an old friend.......2005-05-09

I first came across this album when I was living in Alaska about six years ago. It's amazing. I really believe that it's alive. Somehow, no matter what my mood, Seasons of the Witch fits - the highs, the lows, the in-betweens - it always seems to fit. I played it again recently after many years of not listening to it and it's as good, if not better than ever. Treat yourself - you're worth it. Mary

5 out of 5 stars Good Wiccan Music.......2001-03-11

Good eve. If you are like me, then you are probably a very frustrated person. I have spent the last hour trying to find Wiccan music and here it is. This is really beautiful music. Peggy Monaghan has an enchanting way about her. Alas, this is the only CD, Seasons of the Witch, that I have been able to find by Peggy. Hmmm... Well, I loved this CD and I hope that you do too. It is too bad that music like this gets no recognition. Well, merry part. Sadi

Album Description

Seasons of the Witch is an evocative, earthy delight honoring the Goddess through the movement of the seasons. It features the haunting, powerful music of Peggy Monaghan and her friends, and the poetry of Goddess movement pioneer, Patricia Monaghan. This is a rich, heady brew that recalls starlit nights and voices from long ago.

Crystalline voices and celestial harmonies rise up and fill the air. Songs and poems celebrate the nature of Woman, as revealed in the seasons. These are the faces of the Goddess and the stages of Woman - Maiden, Lover, Mother and Crone. Seasons of the Witch celebrates the Goddess by honoring the power of creation.

The promise of Spring.
The fulfillment of Summer.
The reflection of Autumn.
The resolution of Winter.

This 2-CD set began as a book of poems, Seasons of the Witch, by Patricia Monaghan. Her sister, Peggy Monaghan, gave this book as gifts to her musician friends in Alaska and California. The music was spontaneously born from Peggy and her friends as a response to the power in the poems. Peggy conceived this project as she heard the musical responses and decided to produce the original 1994 CD, as well as this new expanded version. Peggy and friends have written and performed 12 new songs for this 2-CD set, as well as including spoken word performances of Patricia's poetry. It also features spectacular cover art by another sister, Kathleen Monaghan. Seasons of the Witch is the result of connections between sisters and friends, and the inherent power of words and music.

5 out of 5 stars Love It - Highly Recommend It!.......2007-05-01

This CD nourishes the deepest regions of my soul. It coaxes my inner magical child to the surface. Many of the songs make me feel like the Great Mother is speaking directly to me. As far as what the other reviewer "jenne" said, I don't think this CD is music just for the sake of music. This CD heals the soul and I highly recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars A mixed bag.......2006-03-12

I truly wanted to love this album. And the lyrics are profound; they are deep Pagan poetry that touches the heart. However, the instrumentation leaves much to be desired; at its worst points, it sounds a bit like a lounge act. There's far too many chintzy sounding keyboards and too few acoustic instruments and drums; I feel the poetry would have been much better served by a more ecstatic world music sound, or at least one amenable to Pagan chant.

I did enjoy many of the songs on the fall and winter disk; not coincidentally, they were ones that tended to use guitars and flutes rather than keyboards.
