Like that attention-getting title, Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!, this Huntington Beach quartet brings on the musical exclamation points. Following a self-titled EP in 2004, Hellogoodbye debuts with a sugary dose of synth-pop. Then, once you think you've got the foursome figured out, they put Jesse Kurvink's hyperactive keyboard playing aside for mandolin-bedecked ballad "Oh, It Is Love" ("Baby, It's Fact" is another rare mid-tempo tune). The group is rounded out by Marcus Cole (bass), Chris Profeta (drums), and Forrest Kline (vocals, guitar). According to the liner notes, all songs were written by Mr. Kline... and his dog. And those songs include lyrics like "Oh girl it's true; I can never be away from you / It's like you gloss your lips with glue / Oh we kiss and I am stuck to you" ("Stuck to You") and "Present for a presentation presented presently" ("Figures A and B"). In album closer "Two Weeks in Hawaii," he even uses the word "rad." Twice. Okay, so Kline isn't Cole Porter, but his yearning tenor and playful tales of puppy love are a perfect match for Hellogoodbye's pep rally anthems. --Kathleen C. FennessyCustomer Reviews:
What a cool surprise!.......2007-07-17
FUN CD.......2007-06-12
Hello to Hellogoodbye!.......2007-06-09
Opening cut "All of our love" (which reminds me a bit of UK group Bloc Party) perfectly captures their sound; a synth driven stomper, with vocodered vocals, digital bleeps and tweets, and ultra catchy hooks. In a similar vein are "Here (in your arms") (US top 20, currently in the UK top 5), and "Touchdown Turnaround (Don't Give Up On Me)".
Deviating from this template are straight ahead electro rockers "All time lows", "Stuck to you", "Homewrecker", the frenetic paced, "Figures A And B (Means You And Me)" with pulsing synths, and the sunny electro pop of "I saw it on your keyboard".
The ballad "Two weeks in Hawaii" wouldn't sound out of place on a My Chemical Romance album, with its gentle-to-raging-chorus style.
My favourite track is the Beatles-esque piano driven "Baby it's a fact", a charming midtempo sing-a-long with lovely harmonies, and lead vocalist Forrest Kline declaring puppy love in a charming innocent-like voice.
The UK edition of the album comes with 3 bonus tracks; live versions of "All of our love" and "Baby it's a fact", and the rocker "Shimmy shimmy quarter turn".
This CD is awesome!.......2007-05-13

Beautiful music........2007-01-10
5 stars for performance, 4 stars due to omissions.......2006-08-29
Simple reason.
The producers at Silva, for wahtever reason, decided to cut down their SHE suites and Hands of the Ripper suites.
On the previous Hammer releases, "Draculas - Classic Horror Films", released in 1993, recorded in 1989, they had seven additional minutes of "Hands of the Ripper" that could have been included on this set.
Additionally, The Devil Rides Out: Film Music of James Bernard, released in 1997, recorded in 1995 and 1996 had about a minute more of additional music from SHE, PLUS about seven minutes worth of suites from Quatermass and X: The Unknown.
Both discs in this new re-issue round out at around 68 minutes, so there was room for some of these omissions.
Silva Screen gets big kudos for a reissuing these recordeings in the remastered HDCD format, but I don't understand these omissions. In fact, one of the tracks included, "Vampire Hunter" isn't even from a Hammer film, and its the only recording on this collection not on previous Silva CD's.
Again, 5 stars for the performances, the 1989 performances with Neil Richardson and the Philharmonia are fantastic. (Dracula, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, Taste the Blood of Dracula, Hands of the Ripper, Vampire Circus.)
Additionally, The Westminster Philharmonic under the baton of Kenneth Alwyn do an excellent job as usual (Kiss of the Vampire, Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, She, THe Abominable Snowman, Quatermass II and Curse of the Werewolf.) Finally, the City of Prague Philharmonic, who get a bad rap more often than they deserve round out hte album and IMHO, deliver the goods, under the trusty batons of Paul Bateman (Scars of Dracula, Frankenstein Created Woman, additionally, Bateman also plays the piano solo on Kiss of the Vampire.) and Nic Raine (The Devil Rides Out, One Million Years BC, When Dinosuars Ruled the Earth, Creatures The World Forgot, The Vampire Hunter)
I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could.
Much thanks to producers David Wishart, Eric Tomlinson and James Fitzpatrick and recording engineers Mike Ross-Trevor, John Luard Timperley and Jan Holzner for contributing to these fine historical film music recordings.
"Hammer & Silva...raises the hair on the back of your neck".......2002-04-09
outstanding scores from James Bernard on Disc One ~ "DRACULA" (1958)..."KISS OF
THE VAMPIRE" (1964)..."DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS"
(1966)..."FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN" (1967)..."THE DEVIL RIDES OUT"
(1968)..."DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE" (1968)..."THE SCARS OF
DRACULA" (1970)..."TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA" (1970)...even though the
blood doesn't flow as easily in "KISS OF THE VAMPIRE", the score from Bernard is
seductive, sensual to say the least for "creatures of the night", masked ball scene blends
atmospheric trance-masquerade themes, intoxicating main title is hauntingly mesmerizing with
"VAMPIRE RHAPSODY", just listen to the piano solo from our character in the film Carl
Ravna (Barry Warren), son of Dr. Ravna (Noel Willman) along with daughter Sabena Ravna
(Jacqueline Wallis), a cult of vampires in early 20th century Bavarian, praying on a young
honeymoon couple...Bernard's rhapsody captures the listeners heart and BLOOD!
Let's look at Disc Two with the other Hammer themes and their composers ~ "THE
ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN" (1957-Humphrey Searle)..."QUATERMASS II"
(1957-James Bernard)..."CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF" (1960-Benjamin
Frankel)..."CURSE OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB" (1964-Carlo Martelli)..."SHE"
(1965-James Bernard)..."ONE MILLION YEARS B.C." (1966-Mario
Nascimbene)..."WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH" (1969-Mario
Nascimbene)..."HANDS OF THE RIPPER" (1971-Christopher Gunning)..."VAMPIRE
CIRCUS" (1971-David Whitaker)..."VAMPIRE HUNTER" (2000-James
Bernard)...difficult as it may be, there is a stand out ~ "THE CURSE OF THE
WEREWOLF", fine direction from Terence Fisher (director) with an outstanding cast Oliver
Reed (Leon-the Werewolf), Clifford Evans (Alfredo), Yvonne Romain (Servant Girl) and
Catherine Feller (Christina), Hammer's departure from the old stereotype of the beast is
refreshing, Reed's performance as the tormented sole, from man to wolf is touching, the score
by Ben Frankel is tense building at it's best, to say the least, setting the tone and mood for the
transformation with counterpoints is stimulating, inclusive orchestration development for what
lies ahead during a full moon.
Without a doubt the highlight pick hands down is "SHE", composer James Bernard gives of
himself without question, the SUITE takes the orchestra into lilting melodic exercises with
percussion chiming in, the harmonies are hypnotic blends of textured fabric, listen as The
Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Alwyn display stirring strings and
a solo harp run the scales in "THE ETERNAL FLAME AND THE DESTRUCTION OF
SHE", hold-fast arrangement has haunting echoes of Bernard's constant theme, with a final
beat from a drum in the percussion section.
Must make mention the cast of players that made this possible ~ The Philharmonia Orchestra,
The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, The Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra ~ and
their various conductors Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, Nic Raine and Neil
Richardson...supported by the illustrious staff from Silva Screen Records LTD ~ Reynold da
Silva (executive producer), David Stoner (associate producer), Gareth Williams (Dolby
Surround/HDCD Mastering) and of course James Fitzpatrick (compilation producer), who
has the knack of developing quality in every Silva Screen release...similar to "A History Of
Horror:From Nosferatu To The Sixth Sense" (SSD-1111/2CD Set), guaranteed to raise the
hair on the back of your neck!
Total Time: Disc One 68:01 on 14 Tracks & Disc Two 68:46 on 14 Tracks ~ Silva Screen

Very Interesting........2007-01-14
Kind of a neat album to put on with headphones and shut the lights off.
Also good for kids interested in dinosaurs and it contains great sound effects and the album really delivers on what it set out to do.
In other words, this is a project that very easily could have come off sounding stupid but Douglas Irvine does a great job and puts out a great Dinosaur CD.
If you are a Dinosaur Enthusiast, you need this in your collection.

Album Description
Like a kid in a candy store, Nick Saloman gleefully advised the engineer to"take a bit off the top" of his new, digitally (for the first time) recorded album What Did For the Dinosaurs. Saloman has also forewarned Rubric upon delivery of the master thata the guitar is a bit harsher than past Bevis Frond efforts. That is not to say he is incapable of pulling off a beautiful ballad ("Lost Souls Day") which was previewed during last May's acoustic tour. The pop songcraft embraced by Mary Lou Lord, Teenage Fanclub and a smattering of other has also remained ("Silver Dart"). This "dinosaur" might still be a bit cranky. He thinks nothing of admonishing the current rock world around him while delivering mind-blowing Hendrixian leads. The Bevis Frond remain among the lone practicioners of their generation of rockers. Now at the peak of his career, Nick Saloman puts forth his latest jam packed set of music to be worshiped by lovers of rock.Customer Reviews:
Leave It To BEVIS ..........2006-06-29
Compared with Valedictory Songs and Hit Squad, two tailswingingly fun albums, Nickzilla seems a little more angry on this one. Better get out of his way because his electro-spines are starting to glow white hot and are ready to blow. He chops all three heads off of Monster Zero and does the bodyslam on King Ghidra. All of the incomprehensible, screaming little people are running for cover, a few getting trompled underfoot (I'm sure regretably, he is a good monster!). With a venting of frustrations and some certain foul rage, this monster needs a timeout to retreat back into the deepest ocean and cool off, before everything is laid waste.
What Did for the Dinosaurs? Well, ALOT! He rearranges all of the skeletal remains and brings them back Down to Earth: "Don't complain if no one cares how hard you tried, Pay no heed to other voices, yours alone will be your guide. The more you understand, the harder you will land, When you come down to Earth". All of the songs, as usual, grow on you like Mothras silk and call you back for more adventure - don't forget your monster treats. These bones belong in a MAJOR league museum, not archived as some curiosity!
It IS something you can't SEE - listen to this musical monster and see if you can figure out What Did for the Dinosaurs (Dustbins in the Rain, at 13:36 is a scorcher in his finest Rodan sound sculpture tradition). This flick takes you to a monster island in the darkest sea and the action doesn't let up ... Total cd playtime 77:40 min. Be sure to take a cartoon break or two, and bring some munchies, you won't regret it! Yo-de-lo (I love that song - really catchy). Enjoy!
Thanks again BF for the high quality (creature feature) entertainment, the Monster Island twins approve and sing your praises. Even younger Godzookis may like BF, mine do.

vacation at a cool record store in Charlottesville, Va. Nick Salomon is much more
rocking than before, but the melodies are wonderful, timeless, lysergic-drenched,
but several really rock out. Nick is truly a genius. This will probably be widely
ignored, unfortunately, it's one of the best things I've heard this year, and deserves
to be, if not a hit, at least one of those albums you listen to in your dorm room.
It's unbelievably catchy, and just beautiful - it deserves a chance.
Love and Peace to Nick - keep on going, bro!
A great album

More Information from All Music Guide.......2007-02-05
Dinosaurs consists of former members of Big Brother & the Holding Company (Peter Albin), Quicksilver Messenger Service (John Cipollina), Country Joe & the Fish (Barry Melton), and Jefferson Airplane (Spencer Dryden), plus two musicians closely associated with the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia (Merl Saunders, who co-led a band with him, and his lyric collaborator Robert Hunter). If the group had been formed in 1972, when its members ranged in age from their mid-20s to their mid-30s, it might have been considered a supergroup and gotten national attention and a major-label recording contract. Instead, it came together in 1982, when the musicians were in their mid-30s to mid-40s, and the name, taken from Melton's stage remark, "We're just a bunch of old dinosaurs," signaled that this was some friends getting together for a little fun rather than a serious enterprise. But the pedigree of the players was enough to draw audiences, mostly in Northern California, and after half-a-dozen years of occasional gigs, the band finally made an album. It's a loose, unassuming affair from a collection of musicians who were not the focal points of their earlier bands. Melton was always a reliable second banana to Country Joe, and he remains a sturdy figure here, the closest thing to a frontman in a band that really doesn't have one. Cipollina's guitar sound helped define Quicksilver, and it remains identifiable here, particularly on the live recordings of Nina Simone's "Do I Move You?" and the old Quicksilver warhorse "Mona." Hunter had left the band by the time the album was made, but returned to sing his lyrics on "Who Makes the Moves?," the most striking original song. Much of the individual playing was striking, too, but Dinosaurs on the whole did not reach the heights ascended by some of the former bands of the group's members.
