Carl McColman, New Age Voice, April 1999
"Anael brings more warmth and intimacy to her music than Enya. Far more than a mere knock-off."
Product Description
After the Top 20 NAV success of Light of Refinement, Anael returns with an equally potent sophomore statement on Unconditional. Delving further into both the physical and spiritual aspects of our journeys through time, this album not only eagerly welcomes us to the dance of life, but literally reaches out and pulls us in. At times joyous and full of wonder, at times reflective and subtilely introspective, each of these masterfully crafted vignettes connects us to the core essence of our beings.
Delivered through Anael's stunningly clear and angelic voice, poignant, striking lyrics weave their suggestive spell over lushly arranged tapestries of piano, exotic percussion, orchestral textures and fretless bass, seemingly taking on a life of their own. The result is like a caress from heaven, an enveloping musical experience that elevates the listener into a state of pure, unhindered love.
Featuring the majestic Sanctus, with its serene, devotional vocals and driving percussion; the sumptuous Come Again, I Believe, a confessional voyage into the heart of the creative spirit; and a transcendental The Age of Reason, inspired by Phillip Krapf's "The Contact Has Begun."
Beautifully produced once again by multi-dimensional composer/poet/arranger Bradfield, the symbiosis between he & Anael is pure magic. Full of clever sonic contradictions that both charm and delight the ear, each track reveals a new, fresh layer of their combined vision.
'Unconditional' is how the future sounds.

Mellow(zzzzzz).......2007-05-01
Kirk Whalum is a great session musician; as a solo artist he blends into the woodwork making up the world of pop jazz groups dominated by sax. Actually he is a cut above the rest but still that is not saying much. There is no daring , provocative challenge to the music; it is just safe. Maybe that is why some people refer to it as elevator music. However, his slow jams are nice for spending time with that special someone, if you happen to be so lucky. The music just goes through you, a sensual vibe that takes two to fully appreciate it. Cool tracks include the funky "Groverworked and Underpaid,"" Playing With Fire," that features some nice guitar work by by another pop jazz giant , Peter White, that gives the song added texture and the alto sax Whalum blows on "Waltz For David." The worst songs are those with vocals. Whalum has proven his potential but is confined by the pop jazz formula. This is recommended for those in love or falling in love, otherwise it is mundane.

Gemme that old time New Age religion..........2007-05-11
When I hear the clear, breathy voice of Anael, I imagine that if angels were feminine, this is what they would sound like. Like Enya, Anael's songs all have a similar sound, feel and texture to them. This is her trademark sound. Anael's "Unconditional" is best enjoyed by people that appreciate and enjoy the richness of dark chocolate, Espresso coffee with cream and sugar and the beauty of a sunset. What I would call the simple pleasures in life. This CD takes time to enjoy; as with dark chocolate, you want to slowly savor the taste / sound of her music. Beneath her vocals are tiny intricacies in the background instruments with their own counter melodies and rhythms. One should not rush into hearing any of Anael's works. They must be listened to, to be appreciated. My first exposure to Anael was through the song "Sanctus" which could easily double as a Christmas melody. Anael's counterpart and composer of the music and lyrics, Bradford, bases most of his "spiritual" songs on the Roman Catholic Canon. However, some of his lyrics contain references and ideology that are elements of the New Age religion. Even so, the beauty of the earth and all her inhabitants isn't new as Native American songs have their roots and inspirations in the same elements. Be it "Father Sky" and "Mother Earth" or the "King of Kings", this album is a wonderful collection of melodies that will inspire anyone seeker a higher plane of spiritual significance. Then again, it's just good ol' soothing music that you don't need to necessarily think about in order to enjoy.
Seond CD From ANAEL Continues In Tradition.......2001-01-04
From the opening track, the majestic "Sanctus", to more subdued fare like "Come Again, I Believe", Anael's second CD does not disappoint. The sweet, crystalline vocals are there; the great arrangements are there; the fantastic songs are there; what else could you want? "Sanctus" starts out with an introductory string section that leads into Anael's fabulous vocals, and then the drums come in. Almost like a mini-symphony. "Ask Me Like A Song" has words that fit the music like a hand in glove. Beautiful image-making words combine with angelic vocals and music. The highlight of the CD for me. "Listen To Your Heart" gives the CD a little more of an "edge", if you can call it that. Actually, more appropriate would be "tempo". Created in the same vein as her other works, but slightly harder and faster, this song shows Anael expanding her musical sphere. "Willows" sways like willows on a windy day, and with the beat slightly off the mark, gives it that slightly off-balance sensation that makes it so endearing. "Come Again, I Believe" starts off as a beautiful piano solo which adds flutes and vocals as it goes along. Melancholy, yet reassuring--another winner. The sounds of a bubbly stream begin "All That's Going On Around You", and accousic guitar and synthesizers add to the mood. A mid-tempo drum track adds a little energy and Anael's vocals almost sound pop-like here. "Aeterna", like "Sanctus" on this CD and "Dona Nobis Pacem" and "Kyrie" on her debut CD "Light Of Refinement", is based on the Roman Catholic Liturgy. This uplifting song has a wonderfully catchy melody and makes you want to clap your hands. "Don't Trade In Your Dreams" brings us back to a more quiet Anael. "The Age Of Reason" combines sporadic drums and beautiful piano glissandos that come together in a powerful chorus. The title track, "Uncoditional", makes use of a harpsichord and synthesizer to bring the CD to a relaxing close, and leaves the listener once again wanting so much more.
Sumtuously textured new age vocals.......1999-07-30
In the world of crystaline, ethereal, female vocals there is a new emerging Princess - French Canadian vocal artist Anael.
How does one begin to describe the beauty of this thought-provoking musical priestesses second album, the truth is, that it is almost impossible. I can attempt to sum up my reactions to it quite simply. Listen to "Don't Trade In Your Dreams" If the beauty of the melody and it's spiritual content does not make you weep or send chills up and down your spine , then perhaps this kind of elevating, enveloping, music experience is not for you. Anael's voice is an instrument; which she uses to capture and uplift people's souls.
From the opening track Sanctus, adapted from the Roman catholic liturgy, you are invited to personally audition Anael's world of beauty, peace, transformation and redemption. It feels very direct and very intimate almost as if she is singng for you and you alone, inviting you to join her for an hour in sharing her wisdom and tranquility. When that hour is over, your heart will continue to take with it Anael's message and vision.
The compositions of Bradfield manage to provide a medium in which the vocals of Anael can work their magic; growing, teaching, and transcending musical plains. Although this cd will sit well in the collections of lovers of Marcomme and perhaps Enya it is a singularly beautiful and mesmerizing album that occupies a genre all of its own.
Unconditional is a sumptuously textured work that deserves to be appreciated by more than just established fans.

A big, longhaired Southern boy with a beard and black hat, Clay Davidson would like to be perceived as the latest in the line of Southern outlaw country-rockers that extends back through Travis Tritt, Hank Williams Jr., and Waylon Jennings. He wrote or cowrote 7 of the 11 tracks on this debut album, including the chugging "One More Day" and the barstool sing-along "We're All Here," and his soulful voice at times recalls Gregg Allman and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ronnie Van Zant. But there's something conditional about Davidson's outlaw pose. Jennings and Bocephus--genuinely unconditional individualists both--fought for the right to use their own bands in the studio. Although Davidson is shown on the front and back of his album holding an electric guitar, he actually plays it only once; a brief solo on the simple-minded "My Best Friends and Me." All the other guitar parts are supplied by the usual Nashville suspects. We wouldn't want this outlaw thing to get out of hand again, now would we? --Rick Mitchell
Customer Reviews:
A Great collection of songs........2002-06-30
It's just the best! every single title is a hit in my book. I look foward to his next cd.
Great CD.......2002-03-17
Great new CD, perfect for young and old alike. I particularily enjoyed Come Rain or Shine, My Best Friend and Me, and Can't Lie to Me. The other tracks are enjoyable to listen to. I also reccommend Chris Cagle.
A must have CD for anyone!!!!.......2001-05-21
Clay Davidson rocks with his country music. I love Travis, but Clay takes the cake. This guy not only looks killer in a cowboy hat, he can sing like no other. I love the songs, Unconditional, I Can't Lie To Me, and Sometimes. A good CD to listen to anytime. The songs make one think about things. Keep on singing Clay, I am listening!!!!
One of the Best.......2001-05-15
Clay Davidson definately has another hit with "Sometimes" to follow "Unconditional". He is one of the few new truly country artists left with the onslought of people using country to break into the pop charts. This CD is definately worth the money. He has a great voice, and some great songs on this CD. If you only have enough money for one CD, this one is the one you buy.
Excellent CD!.......2001-04-15
This CD is excellent! The songs on it are nice and gritty, and some of them deal with things other than boy-girl love (Unconditional, My Best Friend And Me). I know I'm committing heresy here, but he may even be better than Travis Tritt. Only future albums will tell though.

Smooth as usual..........2007-06-10
Peabo Bryson has been attracting fans with his ballads and smooth sounds for many years, spanning almost three full decades. He continues to perform at top level, even to this day, exemplified by this album. The album, released in 1999, hit the charts with "I Wish I Could", which could be recognizeable, since two other remakes were released within that same timeframe (Regina Belle & Collin Raye). The album also makes you wonder if Bryson is a closet Collin Raye fan, since another one of his tracks, "The Gift" (which he co-ops with Robert Flack, long-time duet partner), is a Raye original. Both songs are sentimental tracks focusing on familial love, rather than the crooning romance tunes. "My Heart Belongs To You" is more of the typical love ballad, emphasizing on the heartful thoughts lovers exchange... more of what Bryson usually brings. "We've Come Too Far" is another nice ballad, and "Unconditional Love" doesn't need much explaining from the title alone. If you're looking for an album that you plan on playing when you have the ladies over, or if you're just relaxing, this could be a nice one. Keep in mind, though, that Bryson can get a little too sentimental or sappy, if you're really not into that kind of balladry. But, if you don't mind a bit of sappy or romance... Go for it!
Always love Peabo @}->---.......2006-02-17
Peabo is my guy. His is the voice that sets the rest off. He's amazing and so so so incredibly talented because that voice is absolute perfection. It's smooth and silky and he will always be number 1 with me. This cd is full of his usuall knee weakening ballads. I love My Heart Belongs To You and the remake of Ain't Nobody. I especially love the duet with Deborah Gibson because she's been a favourite of mine for years now. He's the best and I'm sorry that he's not more appreciated. I saw him in Vegas and I'll never forget it. Buy this cd and you'll never regret it. It is a little older now, but I still listen to it because those bedroom songs never date and never fail to do the trick. I highly recommend this.
Unconditionally the best.......2003-11-25
This is one of Peabo Bryson's best works. I pulled it out of my CD rack the other day because I recently fell in love. Peabo's voice is one of moving and powerful passion. This is a wonderful selection of songs. This CD is a MUST for any music collection.
Unconditional Love.......2001-03-29
All I can say about this CD is WOW! WOW! WOW! Peabo's rendition of the title song is extremely powerful and uplifting. Also, it was great to hear his duet with long time singing partner, Roberta Flack. I hope that they pair up again soon. Any chance that Peabo will perform in the S.F. Bay Area?
BREATHTAKING.......2000-10-04
I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF MR. BRYSON AND HIS WORK SINCE HIS " REACHING FOR THE SKY" ALBUM. "UNCONDITIONAL lOVE" IS BY FAR HIS BEST WORK YET!!! IT IS MY FIRM OPINION THAT MR. BRYSON HAS NEVER RECEIVED THE ACCLAIM HE DESERVES. IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN PRIVILEDGED TO HEAR HIS MUSIC, THEN YOU HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED LONG ENOUGH, AND IF YOU ARE LIKE ME; A TRUE ROMANTIC AT HEART, YOU WILL THOROUGHLY ENJOY HIS LATEST CD AND ALL OTHERS TO COME. IF "UNCONDITIONAL LOVE" IS AN INDICATION OF WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MR. BRYSON IN THE FUTURE, WE WILL ALL BE THE BETTER HAVING LISTENED. MANY ARTIST COME AND GO,BUT LONG AFTER THE FADS WILL REMAIN THE SOULFUL AND ANGELIC SOUNDS OF PEABO BRYSON."YOUR HEART IS MY HOME"

Darlene sings gospel.......2005-08-22
Fans of Darlene and her work with Phil Spector will be very disappointed with this album.
It lacks her usual fire, and the tracks seem very samey and tuneless.
Her voice comes across as if she is bored with the whole thing, anfd it really needs some uptempo material.
This isn't going to win her new fans I am afraid, and even fans like myself will be let down after such a long wait for her releases
ONE OF THE BEST VOICES IN THE BIZ.......2002-12-23
Darlene Love is still, after all these years, one of
the "best kept secrets in show business". Not that
she isn't well-known in music circles, and to her
faithful following, but this is a woman with so much
talent that she should be singing before sellout
crowds at Radio City Music Hall. While she may be
best-known for her sublime recordings with Phil
Spector and for playing Danny Glover's wife in all
of the Lethal Weapon films, Darlene has maintained
a high standard of vocal brilliance for the last
40 years (she's 61 as of 2002). This recording finds
her tackling a nice variety of Gospel songs, sung
with all of the fervor and passion you would expect.
The CD is produced by Edwin Hawkins of "Oh Happy Day"
fame, and Darlene truly gets you "feelin' the spirit".
Some of the arrangements are too heavy with cheesy
synth backgrounds, but Darlene and the fantastic choir
of first-rate gospel singers more than make up for that.
If you want to get your feet tapping, your face smiling,
and your heart soaring, pick up this CD. You won't
regret it!!
Excellent, Warm Voice Wasted In Mediocre Lyrics........2002-09-13
Darlene was wasted on this CD. She has an excellent, warm, beautiful voice on this CD, with a unique charm...but the songs contain mediocre lyrics far worse than her great days in the 60's. The songs contain no real story background, which makes it just a wonderful woman singing assorted words basically. Darlene is wonderful here, and sounds much more mature, but she could have done a CD featuring herself singing her older songs, with her current voice.
At 57, Love IS Alive and Well - Sounding Better Than Ever.......1999-01-30
1960's pop music icon Darlene Love is back in full force these days. With the release of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE from Harmony Records, Love proves that at 57 she still packs a vocal punch that rivals many lightweights half her age. The delivery and vocal honesty of Love's performance on this album let you know exactly where her heart stands: with her music, her fans, and most of all, with God.
For years, Love has been called one of the best kept secrets in the music industry. If nothing else, this album and its message stand as a testament to the fact that perseverance and struggle pay off in ones life.
Darlene went from recording No. 1 hits like "He's A Rebel" and "Da Doo Ron Ron" in the 1960's to cleaning bathrooms in Beverly Hills in the 1980's. She still hasn't achieved the status in music history that she is FAR deserving of, but God love her, she's still thrilling those of us who are faithfully as devoted to her as she is to us.
This album is worth it's price in gold. Buy a copy for someone you truly love.

On Unconditional, Paul Brown, the hottest producer in smooth jazz, takes a crack at the distinctive Texas tenor saxophone of Kirk Whalum. If you overlook the connect-the-dots formula of the opening track, "Now 'Til Forever," where Boney James or any of Brown's other buddies could be inserted, the producer does a good job of letting Whalum's bright style come through the slick production sheen he applies to the 10-song CD. It's Whalum's originals--like the title track, "Song for Evan," and the clever tribute "Groverworked and Underpaid"--that are typical of the sax man's ability to easily appeal to smooth-jazz audiences and devotees of urban pop. There are traces of hip-hop on the TLC-like "I Try" and "Real Love," the latter featuring a Whitney Houston-inspired Wendy Moten on vocals. This is no hard-blowing contemporary jazz session like past Whalum releases, but rather a satisfying tempered effort that focuses strongly on production values and overall vibe. --Mark Ruffin
Customer Reviews:
While Not Kirk's Best Work , It's Still Worth Buying..........2006-10-01
Kirk whalum is one of the best smooth jazz sax players out there the cd " Unconditional " is not his best work --- it is one of his better cd's kirk whalum is also a great gospel musician and adds this aspect of his playing and musical background into his cd's and that is one of the things that stops me from giving this cd 5 stars because it takes away from the smooth jazz aspect of the cd's and starts to change the genre if you do not mind this I would suggest listning to kirk's " In this life " cd , but if you want to hear more of a smooth jazz style try " The best of Kirk Whalum " ..
Not His Best Work.......2001-06-11
Kirk is very talented but this CD was not his best. Hopefully the best is yet to come
whalum does it again!!!!!.......2001-03-22
been a fan of whalums' for years, he always has had the ability to make his sax sing,.. senusal, soothing, deliberate yet powerful very much like a vocalist ...a good vocalist. On this new cd "unconditional', there are some new old and some new. What variety!!! Shadowing the great Glover Washington's Winelight sessions making the sax form words with quickness and ease, with the tune, " Grover worked and underpaid" is not a easy task but Whalum accomplishes this with the right touches. The sheer beauty of "a song for evan, is down right inspirational. "now til forever, is so so infectious, you'll hear this in your head days after. and much to my surprise, a vocalist that he featured on his last album, covering," all I do", a old Stevie Wonder tune. Miss Wendy moten is featured again on this album with a tune called "real love, I have Miss Moten first two solo albums and wondered what happened to such a great upcoming vocalist...you cant imagine how pleasing it is to hear she working with kirk...Cant wait til kirk tours with this album looking forward to the old and the new. Wendy would make a great opening act..... Buy this cd its worth every dollar!!!!

white man approves.......1999-11-03
I love this cd. Strawberry and True Homies touch me in places I never knew existed. I think 3-g's rock the party right! You know I also get fired up when the theme to Road House, I mean Bad Woman, starts pumping. I can't wait to see Culp and Zmed together again on the silver screen - thanks Mr. Horne! (By the way, has anyone ever heard of John Gil before?)

Album Description
Earmarked as one of the bands to watch in 2005, The Bravery re-release their `Unconditional EP' to prove just why they are so hotly tipped. A staggeringly exciting mix of driving rhythms, electo flourishes, & Strokesian vocals, it definitely signposts a very bright future for this phenomenal new band. The title track is backed with 'No Brakes' & 'Out Of line'. Universal. 2004.
Album Details
Signed to Andrew Loog Oldham's Loog Label in the Summer of 2004, this Band is Hotly Tipped to Be Huge in 2005.

Nothing's as Unconditional.......2005-08-11
I can imagine myself old and wrinkly, listening to this song and falling in love all over again with Sam Endicott. The songs are brilliant, and I saw him performing "live" and I must say, Mr. Endicott could sing awesomely. Unconditional is a great single, as infectious as the first single, An Honest Mistake, and just listen to how emotional he sounds like when he sings, "I just want, I just want love." it's utterly fascinating. My only complaint, is the scanty lyrics. I wish this song could be extended longer.
The Bravery.......2005-03-01
Having heard about The Bravery in the music press, I got hold of a copy of the "Unconditional" EP and was immediately hooked. I've since heard tracks from the new album and today bought the single "An Honest Mistake". They are going to be huge, appealing both to fans of early '80s electronic/indie music and more current favourites such as The Killers alike. Definitely the ones to watch in 2005!
Best Band of '05.......2005-02-20
Without a doubt in my mind, The Bravery is on the fast track to becoming the best band of 2005. Already playing to sold out shows in Europe and the USA, and only on the support of a 3 track EP. It is absolutely astounding. When their CD is released in March, there will be a total breakout of the Bravery into all of pop culture. They do not need to be compared to any other bands in their emerging genre, just the fact that they are one of the best bands to emerge in the new century. The only advice I can give is to buy this EP, buy the CD(when it comes out in March), and go see them at a show.
One of the best........2005-02-06
A five star e.p. definitely, I don't have the foresight to give a band this young five stars (but are they ever good). The Bravery was presented to me in a stack of discs, along with new albums from Bloc Party, Daft Punk, Beck, Soulwax, and Doves. Bloc Party and The Bravery have found their way to playlists in my iPod that I just can't scroll past to get to the other discs. I love the sound of The Bravery. It seems as though a New York band has perfected danceable rock that works off the dance-floor as well. Strings, keys and vocals work together perfectly to create a unique enough sound within a still blossoming genre. Less campy than The Killers, with a more extensive repertoire than Franz Ferdinand, The Bravery will not disappoint fans of any of the aforementioned bands.
Just Mind Blowing!.......2005-01-30
You cant compare this band to any other band with that post punk/80s new wave sound. The Bravery have a very great sound that just blows your mind espically with the vocals. I cant get enough of their sound, just makes me move everytime. Im tellin you its not the same as the other bands out there, a much different sound that will keep you stuck and listen to them over and over again. This is a group to watch for in 2005, and it sucks that they are going to be touring in europe for a while. I just cant wait to hear them live.
