About the Artist
Since Robin Crow’s stint with RCA/Rendezvous, he has released three albums on his own label, High Concepts (2nd Nature, Quiet Before the Storm, and Irresistible Flame) and collaborated with Jon Anderson of Yes, Béla Fleck, Kirk Whalum, and Phil Keaggy.

Robin blazes new trails with an unmistakable musical approach bridging pop, jazz, and world rhythms. His albums continue to receive critical acclaim from both press and radio. The Boston Post Gazette says, “Crow is a guitar genius!” The Florida Times Union says, “Crow’s music is a rocket launcher for the imagination.”

Robin is also an author, speaker, and entrepreneur. Before the Dawn.......2003-08-07

I first got into Patrice Rushin's music opon returning from Saigon in 1975! Being an avid Herbie Handcock fan, I had herd that she came highly recommended by him. I was facinated by the tune "Before the dawn" as were my Nam buddies!The biggest thrill came when we accually met her in Hawaii in early 76. She was so cool, and I tried my best to get her out on a date being that we were the same age. (I think she might have went, had my friend not been such a "Block", LOL! We continued to be fans of her music well into the 90s, but still there was desire to see her return to "straight ahead" jazz! I can't recommend "Before the Dawn" enough! Once out of print, but now through the magic of compact disk, bigger and better than ever!

Great CD.......2003-01-16

I owned both of these albums on vinyl but I'm sure glad I repurchased them on CD. I've always loved Patrice's music and I forgot how good her early music sounded. I especially love Jubilation and and Before the Dawn. It was also great to hear some vintage 1970's Joe Henderson and Hubert Laws solos. A great supporting cast.....I highly recommend this CD. 200 Stars!!

Great!.......1999-10-20

I have been after the album Prelusion for years and managed to buy the re-issue along with Before the Dawn last year. The standout track has to be H'Awright Now (imagine Herbie Hancock Rhodes solo's 1973-1977), although this isn't really indicative of the rest of the album, which is more in the style of Herbie (again) Speak like a Child era... modal jazz.

I don't really care much for the tracks on Before the Dawn as they sound very dated, but Celebration is a great Chick Corea'esque latin track with great flute solos from Hubert Laws.

This is Robin Crow at his very best. Whenever you put Robin and his guitar alone in the studio, the results are simply amazing. With additional musicians on other CD's, sometimes his true sound can get completely lost and the music becomes too "commercial". This CD seems to have gone back to his traditional roots of previous recordings such as "Creator" and "Windows to the World".

There are only five tracks on this CD but each are lengthy. I found only one to be a little too long but the rest is simply brilliant. This is not a CD to listen to while cleaning your house. It's music meant to be played when the day is over and all you want to do is collapse and zone out! I guarantee he will take you to another world, a place you will not want to leave!

Magical stuff.......2004-03-03

I lost this album years ago in a fire and it was out of print for years-- too bad. Amazing stuff. Very lyrical, and head and shoulders above most the fusion of the mid-70's. "Dawn" is something you want to listed to at 4:30 a.m. after being up all night. "Razzia" is a great sort of rhumba with sweet flute on top of Rushen's lush Fender Rhodes sound. A sensual delight.
