Excellent!.......2006-07-11

I really enjoy this CD. I have listened to it probably 30 times in the last 2 months, since a friend recommended it. Mattie has some very inspiring words and Billy Gilman has a beautiful voice. The musicians do a wonderful job. It's also a lot of fun and lifts me up.

My "4 stars" is not because of Billy's always-great-voice, but because I actually don't think it was the best idea to put Mattie's poems into songs - simply just because there are no rhymes (except from "I Am/Shades Of Life") and when reading Mattie's words, you have already found your own "thing" in them and having them recorded in a studio with music and all - it didn't make my cup of tea.

BUT - I read the lyrics/poems before I ever heard the CD, and I fell totally in love with them. Especially "For Our World", "It Happened Anyway", "I Could... If They Would" and "About Memories". It had me ending up buying all of Mattie's books here from amazon. I've read them several times by now - and I always find a very special harmony, sadness, as well as happiness, and beauty in them. They're great. And of course, knowing that Mattie is no longer with us, does make it a little difficult to hold back the tears in some places.

The CD is recorded in 2003, which takes it back to when Billy's voice was not "done" and "final". I was totally pleased with his debut album "One Voice", I listen to "Classic Christmas" from late November, through December and into January - until the holiday is over - then, I found his 3rd CD "Dare To Dream" a little too much kissy - with exceptions ("Elisabeth" - 3rd track, "My Time On Earth" - 5th track, "God's Alive And Well" - 8th track, "The Woman In My Life" - 9th track, and - "Some Things I Know" - 11th track. Also, the 12th track - "Shamey Shamey Shame" is very cool")!! But, back to the point, after a few listenings - "Music Through Heartsongs" did not please me far as much as Billy's previous recordings. But it's really worth buying - and to any Billy- or Mattie- (or BOTH) fan, this is a CD worth buying!! Mattie was a very, very wise young man with many thoughts, and many, many words. Billy remains the outstanding young singing-sensation and legend.

Billy Gilman's Music + Mattie J.T. Stepanek's Poems = One Great CD!.......2005-11-15

Wow. I can't believe Billy Gilman and Mattie J.T. Stepanek joined together to create one amazing cd! My youngest daughter was inspired by Stepanek's words and my eldest granddaughter was inspired by Gilman's singing talent. So imagine mother's inspiration and daughter's idol combining together to create Music Through Heartsongs. They just love this album! They bond together thanks to this album. They're favorite songs are: For Our World and It Happened Anyway. For Our World reminded them of 9/11 and It Happened Anyway reminded them of someone close to them. My daughter thinks it reminds her of my granddaughter's father. My granddaughter agrees with her mother, although her father died when she was a baby. Anyway, Billy Gilman, once again, you gave us another amazing album to listen to. We will never forget Mattie J.T. Stepanek. We pay tribute to him. Mattie, we'll miss you and your unbelievable words. Great job, boys!

LOVE HIS VOICE, SONGS OKAY.......2005-08-19

For starters, this was a daring endeavor. I think they did okay with the challenge of placing music to a 10 year olds poems. Far from being a "filler" while Billy's voice changed, I think it was probably a challenge for him and his producers. As for Billy's vocal changes, evident for the first time on this album. . . I think he sounds WONDERFUL. I loved the new tone of his voice, it was extremely compelling. The best vocal performance on the cd is It Happened Anyway, when he holds that note "it happened anywaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay" that whole song was sung with strength and incredible control, and RANGE which had not been seen much from Billy before. For Our World is another good vocal performance, as is Shades Of Life. As for the songs themselves - nothing too catchy, you have to take them for what they are - not catchy sing alongs but inspirations and appeals to lost innocence. Such as the lost innocence of adults who will inevitably criticize this album as cliche and uninteresting. Tsk Tsk for you have exactly missed the lesson in this collection of songs. Its not a masterpiece, but Billy's voice remains strong (in fact strongER) and flawless, with a whole new tone.

This album is a grand collection of poetry from Mattie, thats only enhanced by the absolutely grand talents of Billy Gilman.

Dolly established her theme park in the region of East Tennessee where she was born and raised, and sometimes performs there herself. These recordings were made in 1994, and remind us of Dolly's musical as well as her geographical roots.

Dolly performs several of her own oldies. It would have been interesting to hear some of her pop-country hits like Here you come again given a traditional country treatment, but Dolly avoided those. However, it is nice to hear new versions of My blue tears, Applejack, Coat of many colors and My Tennessee mountain home. Longer than always is a song Dolly first recorded as a duet with Porter Wagoner, but titled Is forever longer than always. Smoky mountain memories was originally recorded for Burlap and satin, but titled Appalachian memories.

Most interesting of all is the inclusion of To daddy. Dolly originally recorded this in 1976 for the All I can do album, then let her friend Emmylou hear it. Emmylou immediately recorded it herself and Dolly dropped it from the album, replacing it with another song. The original version eventually appeared on a compilation, The essential Dolly Parton.

Traditional songs are also included, among them Mary of the wild moor, In the pines, Barbara Allen and Wayfaring stranger, as well as a couple of country golden oldies - I'm thinking tonight of my blue eyes and Night train to Memphis.

Best of Dolly.......2005-12-10

Being raised as a Dolly Parton fan for over twenty four years I find no problem swearing up and down that this is the best record she has ever produced. Beautifully realistically raw. This record takes captive the very heart which is Dolly Parton. Her reindition of Barbara Allen and In the Pines is absolutely wonderful. This is a must have CD. And all honestly it has remained through out the years as my favorite CD in my over 300 CD collection of country music. This is a must have CD. Get it today.

Heartsongs- Live From Dollywood.......2005-10-22

This CD was very good. It had songs that I had grew up listenning to, and some songs that I have not heard. If you are a Dolly Parton fan, You really should check this CD out. I feel confident that you will enjoy it as much as I have.

A Live Concert Gem!.......2005-08-14

I was at the concert while this was being recorded and remember it well! I highly recommend this to all Dolly fans, for it is pure entertainment! You will not be displeased. I am not usually motivated to buy "live" concert recordings, but this one is great.

Essential Dolly Parton listening.......2004-01-18

This is a live album of a concert Dolly performed at Dollywood in 1994. There's a great mixture of old hits, new material, and other songs. There's quite a few guests all over the concert including Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Darrin Vincent, Suzanne Cox, Altan, Carl Jackson, and more. She sings classics like "My Tennessee Mountain Home", "My Blue Tears", "Coat Of Many Colors", "Smoky Mountain Memories", "To Daddy", and more. There's some great songs like "I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes", "Barbara Allen", "Night Train To Memphis", "Applejack", "Wayfaring Stranger", etc. "Heartsong" is a great new song, but the closing "PMS Blues" steals the show, it's hilarious! Dolly puts on a great show. It's very personal, as she shares stories about growing up and her family, talking to the audience between most songs. Overall a treat to listen to, and worth its place in any Dolly collection.

Trip Down Memory Lane-LIVE at Dollywood!.......2003-07-02

'Heartsongs' was a wonderful discovery I found at a souvenir shop at Dollywood in Pidgeon Forge, Tennessee. It's a LIVE album done on the Dollywood grounds at The Pines theater. It's a real treat to see one of Dolly Parton's LIVE performances and if you're ever fortunate please do so. Dolly can really put on a fabulous show. Not all the flash of any other concerts you go to. Dolly is down home flair and makes you feel like you never left home. This album is a collections of Dolly's show that stems from many of her past works in TV, radio and her roots.

Her guests are the Irish band, Altan who accompanies her on "Barbara Allen." Some of the musicals pieces are witty and funny. And, others are a blend of old-timey folk tunes, a little of the blues and traditional spirituals like, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "Hold Fast to the Right." and "Brave Little Soldier." Some of her songs reflect the closeness and love of family like, "To Daddy" and her childhood memories, "Coat of Many Colors" and "Smoky Mountain Memories." Dolly's electic mixture of songs will keep you entertained every minute. It will bring back memories of her musical endevours on the Porter Waggoner show. Remember her promoting products like Cas Walker store and Black Draught. Well, like she said much as she hated that Black Draught commerical she had to make a living. For some of you yun'uns who don't know what Black Draught is-it's a laxative! :). You'll fall all over yourself silly when you listen to the hiliarious, poking fun of "PMS Blues." If you're a Dolly Parton fan or just love old time good entertainment I'd recommend this. It's a trip down memory lane.

Serene beauty.......2005-05-27

I've had this album recorded in a tape for a long time but I had to grow a bit older to really enjoy it in its whole dimension. Anyway I keep on thinking since then the best tracks are the two magic 'Lullaby', a very elegant and beautiful guitar ballad full of feeling and inspiration, and the best one, undoubtedly, the last track, 'Deborah Lea'. I don't know if Deborah is Hadley's wife or whatever but has to be a really important person for him, as this song is as beautiful and magic as a song can be. At the start there's an atmosphere of perfect serenity and peace, in which a strange 'horn' keyboard sound appears drawing loosely some melodies. The song is haunting and recalls a really intimate and happy moment full of peace and serenity. This track is class and so is the rest of the album, ranging between soft jazz and just new age guitar music. Very recommendable for people who like soft jazz but not the cold one but with a bit of heart in it.

my wedding songs.......2004-12-05

Back in 1990, I received the CD as a gift from a friend. I liked the songs so much that I played the songs in my wedding banquet. Up until now I could not find a replacement for the friend. Being confused by the descriptions, I just now ordered two replacements, just in case:

I wish he would produce another recording like this one........2004-05-29

I first heard about Hadley Hockensmith back in the early 80's. He was an instrumentalist on many of my favorite Christian albums. Then I discovered the jazz band Kononia that he played with. In 1986 I found the "Heart Songs" casette and bought it. I immediately fell in love with it. It put me in another world. I played the casatte so much that I completely wore it out. So that year I had to buy another one. Then I started to allow my friends and family to hear the casette. Everyone who was allowed to borrow it would just keep it for themselves. I had to buy another copy of this recording at least 15-20 times over the past 18 years back in 2001 when my last CD was taken from me I searched the internet for about 1.5 years until I was able to find another original one. This one will never leave me again.

What a GREAT cassette.......2003-03-22

I have had this cassette since 1986. I still love to listen to it today as much as I did then. Now, I am trying to buy the CD and I cannot find it anywhere. It's great anytime day or night , rain or shine. If you are really down, one song can really bring you up out of the "dumps" SCOTLAND. After listening to this song you cannot help but have a smile on your face. It will leave you with "smiles and smiles to go"

Not my first CD with Hadley.......2002-11-12

I love this CD. I often listen to it and I like the silence.
I bought it by "accident", because I saw it in a CD store
and I have heard him before in the band KOINONIA. They are my favorite band.
Far more jazzy, but worth trying if you like this one.

Gospel for the Family.......2000-12-04

This is a collection of songs that provides opportunities for worship and entertainment. It offers a variety of song styles so that every music style is represented. There's are jazzy gospel tunes, blusy tunes, and even a little rap. It's a CD that offers songs styles for all members of the family. Doug Williams exhibts his range of talents on this CD, which is something that is rarely heard on his traditional gospel recordings with the Williams Brothers. It's a masterpiece. Since this recording was released in 1995, I think its about time for Heartsongs II. There's a lot of room for Doug Williams' writing and singing in today's contemporary gospel.

The Message is Powerfully Delivered!.......2000-03-06

I find it hard to imagine that I will be the first to review this fine recording. When one of the members of my church choir handed it to me some three years ago, I was stunned by the superb vocalist Williams and the quality production of this release. All of the songs contained on the CD are exceptional. "Living Testimony," featuring Joe Ligon should be a choir staple. The subtle but powerful "Above All Others" is another excellent cut. Yolanda Adams offers her Grammy-winning "pipes" to the soothing "After the Storm." Williams himself shines on "Allow Me" which features a sax accompaniment that adds to the beautiful lyrics. The highlight, however, is the duet with Paul Porter "If It Wasn't for You." This cut rings with the soulfulness of a Gerald Levert song yet never abandons its devotion to the Lord. It is one that I set my CD player on "Repeat." In fact, the entire disc is worthy of repeat listenings!

I heard about this CD on an NPR radio program sometime ago. It is remarkable that every song in this collection is actually mapping from heartrate rhythm of real people.

Very good! If you like pop-classics and good guitar.......1999-05-17

I have a number of Steven Pasero recordings. This recording and his Nutcracker Suite recordings are in my opinion his best. If you like good classical guitar you'll enjoy this recording. His later recording labeled "Pasero" in which he tried to branch out, adding voices and additional instrumentation was pretty much odd-ball elevator music. However, I really enjoy and often listen to "Guitar Heartsongs".

Album Description

Shutka, just outside Macedonia's capital city of Skopje, is one of the largest settlements of the Rom people in the world with over 30,000 inhabitants. This unique collection of live recordings was recorded in the intimacy of the musicians own homes in the spring of 2000. You may hear babies Crying, and neighbors comming in and out, which will hopefully allow not only the beautiful music, but also the atmosphere of everyday life in Shutka to be felt and heard.

The mission of Cultural Cornerstones is to preserve and publish the ethnic traditions of at-risk cultures for use in education and advocacy worldwide. This is a truly inspired work of art. Each of the songs have their own story to tell and as beautiful as they are,their power is in the sound. As Dawn Ferguson teaches about the lessons the dolphins, whales and spirit have for us through song and story her voice and that of her other vocalists transport one to a deep place within. I feel connected to all and totally free and at peace when I listen to this CD while doing body movement and breath work. I also use the chants on the CD to bring healing energy to my psychotherapy clients. If you are on a path of transformation or looking for inspiration and healing or both this CD is for you.

With every listen to HEARTSONGS OF THE UNIVERSE by Dawn L. Ferguson, my heart is taken to a deeper place of wisdom and peace. I often find tracks rolling through my mind on on my lips just when I need a lift -- especially Breathing In, Breathing Out and E Ho'o Manao Ana No. It is also among my daughter's night-time favorites as she listens to music before drifting off to sleep. Child to adult, Ms. Ferguson's music speaks gently and compassionately to those who wish to hear.

This CD is filled with healing songs, songs Ms. Ferguson created as she followed her Great Star around the world and into the hearts of her beloved dolphins, whales and sea turtles. I listened to this CD at the San Diego, Courtyard Hotel. It was playiung in my room and it was a great ambience CD.

This CD has a great sampling of acoustic artists and is great listening over a glass of wine and creates a relaxed atmosphere for just chilling out.

If you're looking for some great acoustic guitar music, this CD would be a good purchase.
