Awesome Music.......2006-02-04

If you like New age and space music you must own this one. The first cut written by Kevin Braheny for a planetarium is the one that THX uses at the beginning of many of its movies. It kicks butt. Buy it today!!!

Still the best.......2004-07-27

This was originally given to me on a cassette tape as a gift from a friend who listened to PBS's Hearts of Space. It's 14 years later, I've worn out the tape, and I NEEDED this CD in my life! It's worth the purchase price for Raphael's Disappearing into You, which is the most deeply moving composition I've ever experienced. Every song is incredible. My four children, who are ages 15 - 23, love it when I play Star Dreams in the car and turn up the volume as the starship takes off. What a winner! If you don't buy any other CD this year, buy this one; it will feed your soul and take you places that you never dreamed you'd go.

Universe Sampler 90 was my gentle introduction into the fascinating world of spacemusic. Hearts of Space features many talented spacemusic artists such as Constance Demby, Steve Roach, Al Gromer Khan and Nik Tyndall. Different moods and atmospheres are presented here. Nik Tyndall offers the listener a glimpse of a floating mysterious paradise with Moments, Shiho reworks the Japanese folksong song Sakura into a shimmering cascade of notes on her electric koto, Al Gromer Khan blends the sounds of India (sitar, tabla) with modern technology for a breathtaking effect. A number of the CD's that are featured on this sampler such as Lagoon by Nik Tyndall and Shiho's album have gone out of print, their only available songs being on Universe Sampler 90. Although this CD dates from the early 1990's, there is still a great deal of memorable music available here. Images are conjured out of the depths of the imagination. This album still remains my favourite after eight or so years for its groundbreaking approach to New Age music.

Best assortment of New Age/Ambient music by HOS.......2006-06-27

I have been a fan of Hearts of Space radio for years and I have owned this collection since it was available on cassette back in the ninties. I have never tired of listening to the selections. The music is stlll as fresh and inviting as it was the day I first received it. It satisfies the need for dark, night ambient music that you are craving for. This C.D. is a must have for any HOS fan or lover of space/ambient music in genteral.

An Overlooked Classic.......2005-10-24

I first heard this album when I was seven years old. The music was so strange and beautiful, especially for a kid raised on 80s pop and hair metal, that I started to cry. Thirteen years later, it still has a powerful effect. Synths and keyboard are woven with ancient tribal rhythms and Celtic harp to create a sound that transcends millennia. Highly recommended.

evolutions evokes a mystical, magical sense of being at the edge of the continent, the edge of tomorrow... i first heard this when i moved to los angeles and even now, 10 or so years later, when i hear it i close my eyes and relive my nights on the pacific shore

one of the finest samplers ever made.......2002-01-06

I came upon this sampler way back when it was released, through a mail order catalog i can't even remember...I got the tape, it was eaten by an old radio....and then I found the CD not long after...but enough of the story, to the music.
Each artist in this sampler is amazing starting with giles reaves, all the way to bruce stark. Of the artists, i now own the individual cd's of all the songs but 4 of them...
Start with Giles Reaves...his soaring soundscapes and tribal like undertones to Evolutions set the tone...Robert Rich paints beautiful soundscapes with his 2 tracks...Tim Story is a maestro as the solo piano and guitar...Mychel Danna uses celtic sounds as his strength...Rapheal is a passionate keyboard expert...and to mis it up a little...throw in the light hearted celtic work of Bill Douglas and the flamenco styling of Gino D'Auri
I would recommend this cd to anyone who is starting to like new age...it's a great vehicle to get introduced to the genre, as all of the Hearts of Space Universe Samplers are...hats off to Stephen Hill for producing a great combination of the masters of his label.

Best HOS album I've heard!.......2001-11-21

New Age music can often be too soupy, but this album is right up there with Phillip Glass and Kitaro.
