Those featured include: 49th Parallel (1941) Ralph Vaughn Williams (aka The Invaders) Stairway to Heaven (1946) Allan Gray (aka A Matter of Life & Death) The Life & Death of Col Blimp (1943) Allan Gray A Canterbury Tale (1944) Allan Gray / JS Bach Black Narcissus (1947) Brian Easdale The Red Shoes (1948) Brian Easdale Gone to Earth (1950) Brian Easdale (aka The Wild Heart) The Small Back Room (1949) Brian Easdale Tales of Hoffman (1951) Jacques Offenbach. As well as digitally restored original soundtrack music by the undervalued Gray and Easdale, this carefully researched CD also features a number of rare associated recordings, including John Gielgud's reading of An Airman's Letter to his Mother (1941), the lively quickstep Commando Patrol from Col. Blimp and A Canterbury Tale, and a superlative rendering of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, recorded by Albert Schweitzer in London in 1935, also featured in A Canterbury Tale. Great album, perhaps one of Jim's best. From "Wild Wind" and "The Old Man From the Mountain" with their wildlife conservation messages to the funny, but thought provoking, "Food Chain Song" this album has something for everyone. "Thinkin' Like A Mountain" and "Morning In The Mountains" make you want to throw a pack on your back and get out to enjoy the wildlands. Also, noteworthy is "Searchin' for the Road Not Taken" which is a tribute to Frost's poetry as well as a reflection on the effect that wild places have on one's soul. A truly wonderful CD!

Mollo/Hughes Getting it Right.......2004-08-30

I just recieved this disc, and have spent some time listening to it, so I thought I would submit a review. It is of course obvious to make comparisons to the first Voodoo Hill album, so let's start with that. The first S/T cd left me more than a little bored. The musicianship is first class, however the songs were pretty generic rock. Glenn's voice is always amazing, however he seemed to be merely singing over some standard rehashed rock riffs. On the new album, that is not the case. It appears that Hughes has contributed much more to the songwriting. The playing is as heavy and precise as the S/T release, however they have really come up with excellent melodic rock songs for this disc. The opening track being the finest example. Glenn overdubs some excellent harmonies on the refrains that really bring the song to life. Several tracks have a very Zeppelin influence going on, but what better influence can there be to let show. Overall I would recommend this disc, much moreso that the first release. It appears that Dario Mollo and Glenn Hughes are really starting to gell together. If they choose to collaborate on future releases we can all hope that they get better each time. All GH fans should pick up the disc and enjoy !!

Album Description

Raw Roots-Rock Power!.......2000-06-29

I've seen these guys live with Jackyl and they blew me away! This album doesn't really capture the energy of their stage show but the songs are just a riot of raw rock power. They have that punch and crunch that good ol' Southern Rockers like me just love. There's a ZZ Top/Skynyrd quality to most of the songs that shines through the somewhat lackluster recording. Basically, I just love it! I can't wait for the next record from this band.

Good music, bad audio quality.......2000-01-28

As a southern rock fan i was looking for new bands which have been founded in the 90's to be able to compare them to the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band or ZZTOP and i was really enthusiastic when i discovered The Last Band on Earth.Their track "Mental Floss" is pure ZZTOP and "Rotgut Whiskey" reminds me of the early days of Black Oak Arkansas.There's an evolution in this album from Southern Rock in the beginning to Hard Rock (Metallica)as the tracks go by. It is a just a pitty that this album has such a poor audio quality and therefore i wouldn't recommend to buy it.
