Extremely clean, smooth jazz guitarist.......2001-05-30

Randy's FIRST, not second album - the other reviewer misspoke. He uses a combination of acoustic and some 'clean' electric guitars; the man is a guitar wizard. There really isn't any flash, but you can't hide this kind of prowess with an instrument.

Musically, it's a sort of jazz/fusion mix; he defies categories (literally, he defies them. In an interview with Randy, he told me 'I don't like categories'). There are always great melodies and strong lyricism to hook onto, and then from there he takes you off on a journey. Randy told me that his biggest inspiration is Beethoven. After studying Beethoven and then listening to Randy again, I can see what it is he admires about Beethoven. I really do admire all his compositions - and as for guitar playing, he's one of my favorites (this from an Eric Johnson fan).

If you like clean, clear electronic guitar, with innovative percussion backing each cut, then this is the CD for you. "Liquid Smoke" is nothing at all like his previous CD, "Primalvision". Not a bad cut on it !!
