Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Simply breathtaking.......2004-12-13

I think that this is the best ambient album I have heard, or to say I connect to the most. none of the albums in my entire collection takes me far away as this one, that includes all music types. This is not another boring ambient album =)
Newby is a genious and this album is a gateway to the mind.
While maitaining the very humanoid basics, the album tends to take me gently and naturally into a far away future, to the time of spiritualy advanced civilization, not sure if human or alien, but it's just so... pure. Many visions could emerge from meditative listening to this album.
Newby knows how to make interest, and has a perfect timing for the extraordinary sounds he introduces that just flips you in spiritual climaxes. It's a masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2003-08-24

Not just your average New Age music. You can feel that there was a lot of research done in the composition. One of the very best I have heard.

I bought Ecology of Souls years ago while
visiting San Francisco's Amoeba Records and it
was one of the best items I picked up. This
effort would come under the ethno-ambient label
and I've heard quite a bit of this kind of music,
made popular by the likes of Steve Roach, Robert Rich
and others. The market did reach a saturation point
though and a lot of what was coming out was starting
to sound the same; as a result, I moved away from
buying much of it. I can't say that all of Mr. Newby's
efforts are of the same caliber, but Ecology of Souls
was a strong and rewarding effort (for me and I hope
Mr. Newby!). It's simply a wonderful and mysterious sounding
cd with a real sense that one has penetrated some deep
jungle and encountered the rarely seen but often whispered
about. That kind of feeling. Otherwise, there is a rich
tapestry of instruments to lead the ear into its sense
of the ancient and the unknown. There's just something
special about this album for me that is otherwise not
easy to express. I recommend it for those into ethnic,
ambient, ethno-ambient music - even those who may have grown
shy of it over the years. It's an original offering that
defies an easy catagory or comparison, yet is confident
in its power to convey its power.
