Though they found their fortunes intertwined in a punk/new wave/MTV marketing sensibility that typically confused style with substance, L.A.'s Wall of Voodoo was musically rooted in a distinctly different, often more compelling late '70s art rock ethos. Anchored by the stark, angular rhythms of the late Marc Moreland's guitar and singer/chief songwriter Stan Ridgway's sly sideshow barker vocal antics, this re-release of the band's debut 1980 EP (supplemented with raw, exemplary live tracks recorded at UC Riverside in '79) now seems more prophetic industrial music template than quirky new wave tract. If legend says their ominous, synth-drone take on Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" may have originally been intended elsewhere (WOV began as low-budget soundtrack collective), tracks like "Longarm" and "Can't Make Love" crackle with anxious energy and wit; small wonder Ridgway occasionally revisits them with success in his contemporary incarnation as acoustic singer/songwriter. The live tracks further showcase the band's cinematic bent via a medley of Morricone's main title for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Frontiere's Hang 'Em High theme, as well as offering up early versions of songs from Dark Continent and their 1982 classic, Call of the West. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars The Index Masters-Wall Of Voodoo.......2007-05-29

Stan Ridgway at his best!!! Puts a entire new sound to the classic Johnny Cash Ring of fire (Or old sound being the CD from Wall Of Voodoo is 27 years old)!

4 out of 5 stars EP Into An Album.......2007-03-07

A welcome sight, the original EP with added bonus tracks that some ended up as "B" sides on 12" singles. You just can't beat "Ring Of Fire" & "Can't Make Love". So buy this one & if you like this album, you'll want to get their first album "Dark Continent" which is a expensive one right now but worth the money & "Call Of The West". As long as Stan Ridgeway was the lead vocalist, this band was great.

5 out of 5 stars New Wave will never die!.......2007-01-12

Wall is great on this album. No negative things to say about this one. Its a great Wall of Voodoo venue without Mexican Radio. Shh..man Ring of Fire is one of the best I've heard!

5 out of 5 stars Finally!.......2005-12-30

I had Wall of Voodoo's first LP when it came out and a couple of year's ago thought I would see if I could find it on CD. No such luck! The " Index Masters ", which contains several of the songs from that album was out of print. I found it on ebay several times, usually going for around $70.00 or so by the time the auction was concluded! Finally it is available for a reasonable price. This album is a gem, I recommend it to anyone who loves 80's or Punk or New Wave Music. As a previous reviewer stated, Wall of Voodoo was really ahead of the times!

4 out of 5 stars Wall of Voodoo was way ahead of their time.......2005-10-26

The Good
Not having heard of Wall of Voodoo before, and having been four years old when this album originally came out, I instantly made comparisons to Devo and the B52's once I heard the opening tones and bombastic vocal delivery on "Long Arm". The guitar tones are stunning as each ring out with a biting twang. I think I even hear a slide whistle in there. The keyboard tones of "Passenger" are reminiscent of the Knight Rider theme mixed with any creepy horror movie theme.

It doesn't get any more experimental sounding than "Can't Make Love". Vocalist Stan Ridgeway sounds as though he's on the brink of madness. The Johnny Cash cover "Ring of Fire" shows how ahead of their time Wall of Voodoo was, because it uses effects and rhythms similar to a lot of hard rock music today. You may smirk the way `fire' is pronounced and everything else that sounds like it; very new wave. The live tracks are twenty five years old, yet you can't tell much of a difference from them and the songs from the EP.

That says a lot for the group because they didn't have the technology that the industry has today to make great live recordings. "End of an Era" has a melancholy sadness to it as it explores growing up. "Animal Day" has a percussive beat that you can dance too and lyrics you can laugh too. "Red Light" shows you that there's nothing that drummer Joe Nanini won't tap on, as you hear everything from symbols to wooden blocks. The disc (and live set) concludes with a fervent rendition of "The Passenger".

The Bad
Nothing notable

The Verdict
On The Index Sessions it's evident that Wall of Voodoo was way ahead of their time. Their combination of rock guitars and experimental sounds fell right in line with their peers, as well as establishing them in a league of their own. However, I don't think the music world was really ready for them yet. So what's your reason now?

5 out of 5 stars Hymns to the Silence.......2006-11-04

An impossible album to categorise, "Marble Index" is a beautiful, shifting mass of accordians, bell chimes, rumbling bass, and atonal chanting masquerading as songs. Produced by ex-Velvet Underground (and officially coolest Welshman alive) noisenik John Cale, the album is paradoxiacally a better vehicle for the talents of the German-born singer Christa Pfafgen (aka Nico) as her previous, far more straightforward and commercially-geared album "Chelsea Girl".

"Across The Frozen Borderline"
The album deals with ambiguous themes and the effects of shadowy forces on Nico, such as the "caresses" in "Lawn Of Dawns". The themes are invariably couched in terms of the natural: the unidentified Pan figure "dancing down the sea" and playing his mysterious game in "No One Is Here"; "Ari's Song", the title mentioning the name of Nico's son, is anything but a straightforward ode to a child, invoking him to "sail away" on the "ancient silver sea" of dreams; "Facing The Light" deals also with a nameless force holding the singer against her will, and forcing her to face the wind. And the crowning glory of it all is closing track "Evening Of Light", with the gradual rumbling of the bass coming to pull apart, Samson-like, the temple of carefully structured instrumentation built around it.

The enduring achievement of the album is that it at once conceals the mystery of Nico's life through metaphor and allusion yet seems to give glimpses into her deepest thoughts. Its searingly cold and often hostile sound matches the impenetrable gaze coming towards us from the front cover.

5 out of 5 stars intense.......2006-07-22

Nico is one of the very few people whose music stays with me. The Marble Index provides a very nice mix of emotionally powerful songs.

If you are someone who hates ambiguity and songs that might force you to think/focus on them, I'm guessing you'll hate this album. It's not melodic in the classical sense, though it is a harmonious blend of seemingly discordant elements.

I don't think that the songs on this album will ever come to be appreciated by a majority of people, as the ideology they represent is frightening because it is so free.

Nico touched the abyss and found that it wasn't so bad being there.

1 out of 5 stars So horrible.......2006-07-22

Too bad I couldn't give this 0 stars....

I've never heard a more horrible, depressing album in my life. If you enjoy listening to a woman with a awful voice speak in confusing codes and metaphors without any type of beat structure or musical talent, this album is for you.

100% nausea; I can't believe I suffered through this review.

5 out of 5 stars A true story wants to be mine.......2006-01-14

Probably the most cohesive and solid offer of Nico's solo carrer, ''The Marble Index'', despite of its inexpressive sales, has had a very considerable influence in the establishment of movements like goth-rock and remains as a very essencial, yet forgiven, piece of pop-art and recorded music in general.
By mixing ethereal to icey atmospheres in a dense, obscure treatment of the songs, Nico (together with producer John Cale) delivers a set of top-quality songs set somehow between european folk, contemporary classic music and avant-gard pop (a good example lies in 'Facing The Wind'). Nico's songwriting is impreesive, her authoritative contralto ('No One Is There') and special phrazing ('Frozen Warnings'), together with her etheral and deep harmonica produce enchanted music, the one that creates and projects images, that transforms the environment and pulls your deepest emotions directly from your stomach.
Nico's chemistry makes ice burn - and during a transforming experience, it gives birth to your own nemesis.

5 out of 5 stars just writing this to give it more stars.......2005-12-07

I bought this album after hearing the velvet underground and nico, as well as chelsea girl. I knew that John Cale created much of the music on this album, and that I already loved Nico's bewitching voice. Still, I couldn't have been prepared for this; a huge leap forward from chelsea girl, and certainly much darker. The album has a very wintery atmosphere, with each instrument carrying added weight as they are used sparingly and at only the most appropriate moments. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is an album that begs for repeated listenings, and never fails to send shivers down the spine upon each listen. To tell you the truth, I felt I had to write this review in order to match the number of stars this disc got, with the five stars desertshore has. Desertshore is certainly deserving of all five, but to my ears, this album is easily an equal, if not a bit stronger. This is music to listen to alone, and it will strike you to the core.

4 out of 5 stars once again, back in fine form.......2006-08-11

Nathan Gray and the boys are finally back doing what they do best. After "tomorrow come today" and their disasterous time with wind up records, i didnt think id ever be hearing from boysetsfire again.
Now signed to equal visions records, an indie that understands them, the band has revisited their "after the eulogy" years a little with this release. Grey's hartbroken vocals and bloodcurdling screams are back at the forefront, while the music is the usual miox of hardcore/emo-punk it always was. Welcome back boys.............we missed you

5 out of 5 stars way better then any of the emo that has come out!.......2006-05-23

yes this album is no After the Eulogy or The day the Sun Went out but it is a damn good album and the dvd it comes with is one great dvd they play almost every song they have written in one live set. you cant go if you havent got this album yet get it you will not be disappointed

5 out of 5 stars A less articulately worded review from a long time fan.......2006-04-14

BSF have always amazed me with their ability to combine powerfully moving lyrics with music that I have yet to get bored listening to. I have never written a review on here before, and the first few that I read, I was very pleased with. I scrolled down further and saw a comparison to Christina Aquilera "Its a little reminiscent of Cristina Aguilera's vocal contortions, which is scary." I wouldn't usually write a review but when I saw that review I felt it was not only a huge injustice to the cd, but to anyone considering buying it. In my opinion the "originality and passion" you speak of was far better captured in their music prior to After the Eulogy. Songs such as "In Hope" and "Resection" are what drew me in as a life long fan. I consider every record they have made since then to be the sound of a band not afraid to experiment with something new. Once again, I am not a english major I am a fan giving my honest opinion. If you have ever enjoyed Boy Sets Fire then ignore the closed minded review I mentioned.

5 out of 5 stars "Misery" Loves My Stereo........2006-04-05

One thing I've always looked for in a band or artist is an evolving sound. I don't want to listen to the same songs rehashed again and again that start leaving a stale flavor like old fishsticks. Fortunately, BSF doesn't disappoint.

"Misery Index" is really a great composition of vocals, lyrics, and smashing guitars and beats. It does sound slightly disjointed, but that's what keeps the listener interested. They tried a lot of new sounds instead of the now generally accepted "scream until their ears bleed" routine.

For fans who enjoy the hardcore political scream ballads of past albums, this may be a bit difficult for you to get into. Granted, screaming is present in a few tracks ("So Long and Thanks for the Crutches" and "Final Communique"), but "Misery Index" seems to be centered around helplessness, hope and anguish rather than explosive outrage. This is an album comprised of songs that make you want to sing along (and you actually can!) because your feelings really connect with the beautiful vocals.

I have always enjoyed BSF's unique style, and this new edition to the collection really rounds out their abilities. It's been living and breathing in my cd player since I bought it. Excellent work. Go. Buy it. It's worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars Not even a little disappointed.......2006-04-02

"Tomorrow Comes Today was a great album but this album - "Misery Index" - seems a more fitting follow-up to "Before the Eulogy". If you've been a fan since the beginning then there's no reason to be disappointed with this release. Unless of course you're the type that writes negative reviews because for some odd reason you expected the exact same album as before with the same composition, simply different song names; appreciate a band's evolution.

5 out of 5 stars Recomended to any death metal fan!........2007-01-21

This new album from Misery Index has a traditional death metal sound to it, its grindcore like Napalm Death and thier style is pure speed and riff the guitar sound is absolutely shredding infact it sounds like a buzzsaw coming through the speakers. This whole band deffinetely has some raw talent especially Sparky Voyles who has some great solos, the vocalist and bass player is quite good he uses a gravely voice instead of a deep death metal growl so it isn't an incoherent mess (I'm just saying that sometimes it sounds better that way). The songs are very good starting of with Unmarked graves then Conquistadores and it just gets better after that with the best song on the album Sensory deprivation where the drummer reaches epic speed and precision with the blast beats so its always in tone which I think was fantastic, this whole album has a straight death metal sound and dark tone to it and doesn't have any melodies just the way I like it except for the song Discordia which has a sweet solo and a bit of harmony you should check it out, I cannot make a comparison to their previous album cause I don't have it yet but if its as good as Discordia then I might get it. If you liked Misery Index then I highly recomend these similar bands Napalm Death, Kataklysm, Morbid Angel, Nile, Diecide and Molevolant Creation.

5 out of 5 stars Blasting Death/Grind Assault. 5 Stars.......2006-12-24

I first got into Misery Index over the summer when I heard "Conquistadores" from their new album "Discordia" on my Music Choice Metal channel, and I really liked it. Then I soon realized that I had to get this album. I went out and I bought "Discordia", and it was a whole lot better than I expected it to be. I was absolutely amazed how incredible this album was. This album is a blasting train wreck of brutal vocals, neck snapping guitar riffs, clobbering blast beats, wallopping double basses, what more do you need. Jason Netherton's growling vocals are harsh and very brutal, and his bass is audible as well. Sparky Voyles and Mark Kloeppel's guitar riffs will snap your neck in half and rip your bare flesh off. Adam Jarvis's double bass drumming is top-notch throughout, I swear, this guy really does an incredible job behind the kit. Every song on this album is just awesome, but my favorites are "Conquistadores", "Unmarked Graves", "Sensory Deprivation" (this song has some pretty cool guitar solos), "Outsourcing Jehovah", "Breathing Pestilence", and "Meet Reality" (which has a cool double bass drum solo in the beginning). Sure this album is only 33 minutes long, but it's brutal, blasting, and in your face throughout. If you're a fan of Dying Fetus, The Red Chord, The Black Dahlia Murder, Lamb Of God, Nile, Napalm Death, or just extreme heavy music in general, you'll definately love Misery Index, I'm not kidding for one second. Go out and buy this album now. I also recommend their first album "Retaliate" as well. LONG LIVE MISERY INDEX!!

5 out of 5 stars Grade A Deathgrind.......2006-09-20

This is a great album. With influences from legendary bands like Napalm Death, Dying Fetus, and so forth, you'll enjoy this. There aren't any breakdowns or clean singing here (I'm not against it, it just needs a rest sometimes), nope, just head on technical brutal death metal the way it's best done! And with this band being signed onto a label like Relapse, you won't want to pass this up! The blastbeats are grand, and even though the band prefers to play fast in the speed of thrash and grindcore, you can hear a background solo in "Sensory Deprivation". Basically, this is not a band to be ignored if you love extreme death metal like Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Napalm Death, Pig Destroyer, Aborted, and so forth. Give "Discordia" a shot!

5 out of 5 stars A great Death Metal release! (4.5).......2006-07-04

I love these guys. This album truly is a jewel. The year of 2006 has so far seemed to be a great year for Death Metal releases.

Misery Index have an uncanny ability to keep the momemtum flowing in their songs in places where some Death Metal bands start losing it (most notably the originality area) and thats always a big plus in any Deathheads book! If you miss the days of blast beat heavy Death Metal and are tired of new and unoriginal Death Metal acts then this is for you.

If you like this album, then make sure you go pick up SKINLESS'S - TRAMPLE THE WEAK, HURDLE THE DEAD! Its even better than this!

5 out of 5 stars Speed, brutality, and a punk attitude. And lots of blast beats, too. .......2006-06-09

My review of "Discordia" must begin with some background info on Misery Index, involving, of course, a short expose on the once-great American death metal outfit Dying Fetus and their seminal release "Destroy the Opposition." "Destroy the Opposition" was Dying Fetus at their best; the musicianship was bewilderingly tight and proficient, the song writing was catchy, smart, and composed in a manner that few death metal bands can lay claim to. Unfortunately, Dying Fetus would not release another album like "Destroy the Opposition." Lead vocalist/bassist Jason Netherton and guitarist Sparky Voyles, the driving force behind Dying Fetus at their apogee, left the band and formed Misery Index. They enlisted the help of Kevin Talley, the talented young drummer behind "Destory the Opposition," and named the group after Assuck's mid-nineties grindcore classic. Dying Fetus then released "Stop at Nothing," a huge disappointment musically and lyrically (the band went from being leftist-radical to conservative-right--how boring and un-punk is that?) In other words, Misery Index sucked the awesomeness out of Dying Fetus and on "Discordia" the grindcore/crustpunk/deathmetal outfit proves that they have what it takes to destroy the competition.

It is an understatement to say that "Discordia" is a fast album. Some people, as it should be clear from other reviews, are not sure what to make of this album. Is it grindcore? Death metal? Or some strange melding of the genres with a bit of crust punk thrown in? I think the latter is the most accurate description. But what makes Misery Index so unique is the melody they incorporate into their otherwise manic grind sound.

It is very apparent that the band put energy not only into writing the riffs, but also into the construction of songs in their entirety. This has always been Misery Index's strong point, from their earliest work on "Overthrow" to "Retaliate" and their "Dissent" ep. The moments I enjoy most are the thrash breaks that have become a mainstay of Misery Index's sound, generally inserted at just the right time between lots of blast beats and grinding guitars. a little two-stepping always livened up the party. "Discordia" is both indicative of Misery Index's earlier work and yet demonstrative of the band's move in a more creative direction, the likes of which could be heard on "Dissent". "Discordia" is definitely the band's most mature, fully thawed, and coherent work to date.

The only thing that kept me from diving right into this album and loving it completely is the production. The recording is clear and the levels are great, but their seems to be an excess of treble, especially on the drums and cymbals, which are quite dominant in the production. Nevertheless, the production on "Discordia" is the best the band has had, except for maybe on "Dissent," but that was only an ep. The rough-around-the-edges sound serves the band and adds to their crust/grind sound, so if you can move beyond a production that is good but not great and you've enjoyed any of Misery Index's previous work, you'll most likely enjoy this album a lot.

"It's the same series of signals over and over again," a disembodied voice exclaims at the start of "Interstellar Hardrive." And so it is (mostly)! B-movie banter, Rezillos riffs, space-age sonic madness, frantic surf-guitar runs, sci-fi steals, valiant Ventures valedictions, scrambled transmission signals, myopic vocals, and flaming televisual heads--and that's only the first three tracks. This time around, however, the retro-future outfit with about 50 releases to their credit expand into near-techno territory (check out the excellent, spooky "Domain of the Human Race" and full-on silver-jumpsuit fest of "Engines of Difference"). "Psychology of A.I. (Numbers Follow Answers)," meanwhile, is unrequited fuzzy punk. In all, a fully realized album, and definitely one of Man or Astro-Man?'s finest moments. --Everett True

1999 release by one of alternative's favorite underground bands, taking a bold musical step forward while embracing yesteryear's technology. And they even bought a distortion pedal to use on two of the 13 tracks! The full title is 'Eeviac - Operational Index And Reference Guide'.

5 out of 5 stars Their Best And That's Saying A Lot!.......2002-05-26

I almost wrote these spacebilly freaks off after the directionless "Made From Technecium", but I'm glad I didn't.
Imagine the greatest instrumental band on stage with all their pagers and samplers and FAX machines going off at once and then suddenly they forgot their place in the song, so what do they do? They play the whole song backwards! Brilliant! Top that, England!

5 out of 5 stars Like Nothing I Have Ever Heard.......2000-08-21

Wow. I can't remember how I ever heard of Man or Astro-man?. But all of a sudden, several days ago I was seized by an urge to listen to them. I went and picked up Eeviac and it is amazing. The perfect synthesis of instrumental guitars, electronics, and sci fi. Totally amazing

4 out of 5 stars Insanity Squared.......1999-09-02

Astounding! It's a cross between Dead Kennedys, Mermen, ADD, Captin Kirk and a bottle of nitrous. This album is there most agressive and insanely structured, and yet they manage to keep everything musically cohesive. I highly advise every human to buy this album! The world would be a much better place!

4 out of 5 stars STARCRUNCH LOST IN SPACE.......1999-06-17

This latest "audio mind control unit" fuses their classic surf sound without leaving behind what made "1000x" and "Made From Technetium" good. The songs are simpler than before due to the heartbreaking loss of Starcrunch on lead guitar and Dexter X on rhythm. This is a good album but it lacks the depth that Starcrunch was able to give their music and live performances and watching my videos of pre-E.E.V.I.A.C. shows only reestablishes that fact. They do explore new terrain however with "Myopia" which is a long and slow drift through space reminiscent of The Murmen. "Reversal of Polarity" is sheer brilliance along with "Engines of Difference." I've discovered that this album is best appreciated when listened to loud. This band is still the best band out there but Blazar and Trace Reading have some mighty big moon boots to fill.

2 out of 5 stars man or astrovan? yes astrovan!.......1999-06-11

No more starcrunch No more astromen? The poor earthling that is trying to fill our fellow spaceboy Starcrunch's space boots just cannot complete the mission.

Album Description

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as Discordia..........2007-07-07

and whoever compares this to Dying Fetus has obviously not listened to either band extensively.

This album kicks a** nonetheless and its not just cause Kevin Talley from Dying Fetus is in it. I think if we had to blame someone for such sweet music we'd have to direct it at Jason.

Jason Netherton rocks the boat. Go support Misery Index.

5 out of 5 stars The best debut you probably haven't heard.......2006-06-07

For those that do not know, Misery Index are a Maryland/Washington D.C. based death metal band with strong hard and grindcore influences. If you have heard of this band, it's probably because drummer Kevin Talley is the former skinsman for Dying Fetus. But, even though both bands play death metal which is equally brutal and technical, Misery Index are no Dying Fetus Junior. This band is a lot less groove oriented and politically motivated. Talley and the gang also get by without as many breakdowns as that band because MI are always/consistently heavy. There are absolutely no slow tempo changes or melodic guitar lines on their debut album, 2003's "Retaliate," so the music is never allowed to breathe. The only times the onslaught relents is during the few, brief seconds when one track has ended and the proceeding song hasn't yet begun.

Talley pummels away at his skins, creating complex, walloping blast beat bonanzas while guitarists Sparky Voyles and Bruce Greig (who would leave the band in 2004) lay down an uncountable number of crushing, mosh pit ready riffs. And vocalist/bassist Jason Netherton's commanding, arresting voice barks out mean, ugly lyrics like "the razor blade infections cut caverns deep across my skin." Lastly, this record also boasts great production, because the instruments and the rhythms sound very crisp and articulate. The end result is a disc which is composed of eleven awesome, impenetrable, walloping, skull-crushing, dissonant, punishing, satisfying songs which plow straight ahead, steamrolling over everything in sight and shredding the listener's speakers.

Songs like "The Great Depression," "Angst Isst Die Seele Auf," and "Servants Of Progress" interlock cracking, machine gun, almost mind boggling drum beats with lumbering power chords, and, likewise, the album opening title track features both huge, pounding power chords and excellent double bass drumming. The fifth track, "Demand The Impossible," might be the record's best song. It augments churning riffs (which are thick enough to wipe out a whole city) with a catchy, slamming, jackhammer blast beat.

Misery Index deserve to (and are probably going to) be huge. So, if you're a metalhead and you haven't already checked this band out, you owe it to yourself to do so. "Retaliate" (and MI's sophomore album, "Discordia") are essential purchases for everybody who is a fan of death metal and grindcore, and all neck snappers in general.

4 out of 5 stars Tons of energy here.......2005-05-25

Retaliate" starts unpromisingly with some generic chugging riffing. But after a minute comes a dive-bombing solo straight out of Slayer, and the album is off to the races. The title track alone goes through death, grind, and straight-up thrash in whiplash fashion. The rest of the album mixes up these influences, keeping things brutal and varied, if not exactly groundbreaking. The surprisingly thoughtful lyrics alternate between misanthropic and abstract.

1 out of 5 stars You people are kidding, right?.......2004-11-09

Misery Index is like Dying Fetus without the catchy pit riffs, without the breakdowns, without the groove, and without the growl.

And that's a good thing because...?

5 out of 5 stars More then what i could've asked for..........2004-03-20

I had just stepped in my friends house when he blasts "the lies that binds" quickly i wonder who the f*ck is that ? Then he told me about misery index!Okay, i was very impressed & happy with their sound & the vocals are the main thing i always look for & misery index's vocalist did do his job correctly... With nothing here being mediocre or weak at all! I recommend this for fans of dyingfetus, godforbid, messhuga, & ,burnt by the sun--don't wait...Just, buy it!

5 out of 5 stars Index Case is THE Deserver.......2007-07-29

Regardless of what bands are your favorites, Index Case will rise above them. This band is possibly the best band my friends and I have ever heard. The melodic fusion of clear supportive screaming in harmony with, outstanding lyrics, supreme unique vocals, and excellent music composition competes with the best of the best. Every song is its own artwork with intense alternate sounds and smooth interlacing compositions, bringing an album to the table that never gets old. Sadly, this cd won't get the recognition it deserves. Initially, I didn't care much for this cd though now they are my favorite band, exceeding bands such as Chevelle, Taproot, Adema,etc....I enjoyed this cd so much I have received Glass, their pre-record label cd, and I will own any more that come. I don't care what type of Rock you like, Index Case is sure to impress. This is a must buy!

5 out of 5 stars Index Case proves the Midwest isn't useless........2006-08-16

I often buy CDs cheap from third-party sellers because they are cheap, based on the reviews other customers give them.
I have found that Index Case is a very melodic, but just heavy enough alternative metal band. Their singer is very good; he has a good voice, and he gives all the appropriate emphasis. There is some yelling behind the singing on a few of the tracks, which I don't normally consider a plus, but because it is at emphatic moments, and it doesn't dominate the music, I find it refreshing. The musical style of Index Case is in the minor key, with harmonic melodies criss-crossing well. There isn't one song that I don't like, and I would consider nearly half of them to be 5-star songs.
This is one of my top 20 CD's.

5 out of 5 stars one of my favorite albums........2006-05-04

Awesome album...Heavy, groovy, melodic. Index Case are extremely talented and it's a shame they'll go unheard by the world. This cd is just perfect. I listen to it on a daily basis. Pick it up!

5 out of 5 stars Corn Fed Iowa Boys.......2006-03-12

Once again Iowa shows its just as messed up as anyone else, by producing another band who can touch the darker side of rock. Since Slipknot's success, Index Case (a band thats been around almost as long as Slipknot) finally releases their brain child. I've met the band on numerous occasions because they grew up only 30 minutes from my home town. Right now they seem to be having alot of personnel problems. The guitar player and singer are both still there, and if you listen to the cd its obvious they are the most talented forces.

One chink in the armor, Joe's live vocals cannot reach the pinacle they do on the album. Despite all their negative traits as of present, I still think this band could go places in the rock world. Don't expect these guys on your nearest CLEAR channel radio station but they are definetly worth a hear irreguardless of your taste in music. Check it out. 5 star rock.

Songs I suggest hearing first.

"Listen" "Between US" and "Perfect Season." however all the songs on the cd are of equal quality and depth.

4 out of 5 stars One of the new interesting bands on the rise..........2006-03-06

Coming up alongside Bobaflex, these guys have an interesting take on heavy music. Watch for these two and especially The Accident Experiment to move on to great things in the upcoming years.

Note to potential buyers: the audio quality of this cd is not up to par with major-label releases. Mainly, the lows are somewhat distorted and the upper seems a little flat, but it is not terrible and should not keep you from owning this disc!

Peace out,
D.S.
