Excellent, Excellent compilation of songs! But NNY not original version!.......2007-01-03

I don't know why people keep thinking this is the original version of "Native New Yorker" because it's NOT. This is the 12" version of "Native New Yorker." From what I can remember, the original album version started out with a solo saxophone introduction which eventually led into the main song. It was a very short 5- or 10-second sax intro that led into the beginning of the song that is included on this album. I have the original LP and it's there plain as day, just FYI. The LP I have says "For Promotion Only" stamped in gold on the back. I sure wish the original LP was available on CD with the following songs:

Native New Yorker" and "Inside Out" are my favorite songs on this disc. It's a good value for the Money - Oh yes, to "Bighrv (San Francisco)," "Native New Yorker" on this disc is the "original" album version! Just letting you know...Five stars for this disc!!

A great disco band, they were best known for the hits "Native New Yorker" and "Use It Up, Wear It Out", but the 1981 ballad "I Got The Melody" is probably the most beautiful song the group ever recorded.

I love Odyssey.Especially "Native New Yorker" "Inside Out" and "Don't tell me,Tell her".But.... am I the only one tripping or did anybody else notice that those are not the ORIGINAL VERSIONS.I don't know about anyone else but I NEED the Original versions.

More than just "Native New Yorker".......2005-10-03

Yes, "Native New Yorker" is the song everybody knows, but Odyssey had more good tunes than just that one. "Don't Tell Me, Tell Her" was a smash radio hit back in 1979 on New York's two disco radio stations, WBLS and WKTU. "Use it Up, Wear it Out" was Odyssey's biggest hit in England, hitting the No. 1 spot on the pop chart! And "Inside Out" is a dance floor favorite as well. It's great that the 12" single versions are included on this CD. But the whole CD is worthwhile. Don't sell Odyssey short just because the mass public only knows "Native..."

Sweet Seraphic Fire brings together two unique bodies of American sacred song: choral compositions from the New England singing-school tradition and the most popular Evangelical Protestant hymn texts in historic American use. In the late eighteenth century the New England singing-school movement produced America's first great sacred-music style, employing several genres of unaccompanied four-part choral compositions with the melody in the lead (tenor) part. The enormous popularity of singing-school music also promoted a canon of hymn texts shared across America's competing Evangelical Protestant denominations. This recording contains neglected masterworks from the New England singing school that also helped to create the American hymn canon. This is a REALLY cool album of shape-note singings, I particurlarly like EVERY STRING AWAKE and ANTHEM FOR EASTER.
Some of the songs are kind of dreary, (Hatfield) but all in all this is COOL!!!

This a a very jazzy cd.This cd is definetely the BEST of Birds of a Feather.The song "Head To Toe" is a beautifully composed song which is very funky in a way.It is a fast song, very upbeat and happy."View From Here" is a very coooooooolll, slow jazzy song as well and it has some nice piano features and guitar sounds as well.Both these songs have been played on The Weather Channels Local Forecast Segment.

I recommend buying this cd, mainly because this is a good jazz group and it has all their all time best jazz songs ever!!!

Eric Kamen's instrumental range and versility is truly a treat for the ears and soul. I listened to this CD for five hours straight the day it arrived. While I listened, I experienced a whole range of emotions, from sensual to cool and cocky, from sassy to warm and full, to downright titilated. This is adult music you can sink your emotions into. None of the cookie cutter stuff for Mr. Kamen. Bravo to you sir and I'm still listening.

I bumped into this music by accident and sometimes those finds for me are the most thrilling. I'm elated when I feel like all my eclectic tastes are expressed in one unique and diverse way. This man obviously has traveled the world and has taken World Music, Flamenco, Urban and whatever else he could find and used his artistic imagination to combine it all seamlessly to make his mark. I highly recommend this listen to anyone who has an open mind about the aesthetic available from Independent artists with lots to give, guts and talent. It's steamy and seductive, hypnotic and haunting. Eric Kamen's Native Unit CD is filled with the ultra-lush sounds of Spanish guitar, acoustic piano, bass, drums, bazukis, sitar, strings, tubular bells, and Japanese Koto. Listening to this fused Jazz collection makes me feel less world-weary! It is like a beautiful musical oasis, where I can go and shut the door behind me! Produced as a series of "first takes" it has that raw here-and-now honesty and freshness that is lacking in so much of the current "spin" music... you must hear it! And then you are going to want to own it!

Brilliant New Artist and Album!.......2006-02-15

My friend recently introduced me to the music of Eric Kamen and I love it! She made me listen to his song "Moshi Moshi" that is on this album and I was hooked. The great percussion beats along with the guitar that has a latin/spanish feel were just a great mix that pulled me in. Now that I have the whole CD, I have to praise Kamen even more for his incredible musical talents and creativity. I have yet to hear any other CD that blends so many different instrumental and international sounds together to make something completely unique and beautiful.

If you like world, new age, fusion, instrumental, latin, r&b or international music, you will absolutely enjoy this album and quickly become an Eric Kamen fan as well.

This cd does not require track skipping at all! If you like Dwele and jazz music then this is for you! Geno should be blowing up real soon! Light some candles and lay back and play this cd from beginning to end or do like I did and tackle morning traffic while playing this cd, before I knew it I was at work!

We've all got a story to tell, and this soul brother is waiting to tell his side.
Our story starts in Dallas, Texas where Geno was born and raised. Born to a musical family, Geno began playing violin and piano at an early age. He cultivated his talent at the Arts Magnet High School where he walked the same harmonious hallways as Roy Hargrove, Erykah Badu, and Norah Jones.

To further his love of music, Geno studied music at Howard University in Washington, D.C. "My time in college was when I really started to hear music in my head that I wanted to express", he states. It was during these years that he began to explore his passion for soul music and developed his production and songwriting skills.

But jsut in case you're like "Well, I don't know...I've never heard of this guy" let me list some of the gems on the CD: "Honeydew", the very tight remake of GB's "Broadway", the bombastic "I Really Do" and "Let's Lay Down", "So Wrapped Up in You" and "Love Beyond Compare." Wonderful variety of music.......2000-11-29

I don't normally write reviews, but since this great CD set has no review currently, I thought I'd make an exception. If you are passing by I urge you to give these tracks a listen. You'll find blues, gospel, rock, and various other tpyes of ethnic music. I've yet to play this to anyone who didn't like it. It's fun, it's moving and it's a great buy. Check out "Hilda the red-headed Swede".
