different but still ok.......2007-07-26
The cd is not bad it just is not that great either. Their debut was much better and I am disappointed on the style change. Hopefully the next cd will be a nice in the middle mix of the 2 styles.
Great album..........2007-07-25
... by a great band. Strata has grown leaps and bounds since their first outing. Check this CD out, you won't be disappointed.
Not horrible, but not good either.........2007-07-18
The last cd, even though it wasn't THAT great, was better than this. It had a few winners on it and of course Piece By Piece. I listened to this knowing it wouldn't be as heavy based on what I've heard but I didn't expect a lackluster outing with no catchiness or hooks. Sophomore slumps.
A Masterpiece From Out Of Left-Field........2007-07-17
The first thing the listener will notice upon their first listen to "Strata Presents: The End Of The World" is that it is a drastic change in direction for the band from their self-titled debut. In fact, the opening track, "Night Falls (The Weight Of It)" doesn't even sound remotely like the Strata we got to know three years prior. So, is this change a bad thing? Absolutely not. Eschewing the alternative hard-rock of the debut for something a little lighter and more experimental makes the emotions of singer Eric Victorino come across much clearer than before and with even more impact. It going to be easier for the bulk of the fanbase to dismiss this album than it will be for them to give it a chance, give it time, and let it sink in. What we have here, in fact, is miles beyond what the band had accomplished before. Much of "The End Of The World" is a concept piece, which can be determined by taking a quick glance at the quirky art that graces the liner notes. But instead of getting angry and political, Strata seem focused on the beauty of life and it's shameful destruction. Songs like "Stay Young" and "Love Is Life" are not just catchy and moving, but also affecting and somewhat haunting. Victorino is truly in top shape here, as the band supplies him with enough hooks and melodies to keep this album in rotation much longer than the average rock record. On the flipside, there is the up-tempo, bizarrely hooky "Cocaine (We're All Going To Hell") and the murky "The New National Anthem," which serve as the darkside to the album. But that's what it's all about. Twists and turns. One minute you're basking in it's glorious, natural beauty, and the next, you're feeling sorry for it. Strata have truly outdone themselves with this record. It may not sound a thing like their debut, but it's a compelling and engaging record that everyone should give a chance. And the best part? It doesn't sound like anyone else out there.
Those knots in your stomach mean you're alive..........2007-07-17
Hopefully the world is ready for Strata, because
like it or not, they are here and they're giving
it to you straight, no blinders and from the
heart. Strata Presents the End of the World is
without a doubt one of the most meaningful albums
released this year. So many words can be used to
describe it from haunting, to untethered, to
inspirational, illuminating and even a word as
simple as real.
The untempered emotion that went into writing
this album is apparent in songs like
Hot/Cold(Darling Don't), Stay Young and Love Is
Life, where we are faced with feelings we've all
had to deal with or will have to deal with at
some point in life and just how deep the
soul-searching has to go in order for us to
survive. The combination of excruciatingly
realistic songs such as Cocaine(We All Go To
Hell) and The New National Anthem, have given
this album an edge on some issues that we are
faced with and so often afraid to talk about.
There is no fear here. There is no turning back.
And if you can listen to this album and walk
away not thinking about it later, there's a good
chance you're already dead.

One of the best debuts of 2004, and one of best hard rock albums of this decade........2007-05-15
I bought this when it came out, because I used to spend every cent I had on new music every tuesday. I would go in to the record store and ask what new heavy music had come out that week, and then I would buy most of it. I had heard "Piece by Piece" and was stoked to think that the rest of the album could be as good. It was better. Very solid, no filler. Some of the most memorable hard rock songs I have heard in years. "The Panic" and "Never There" are probably the most radio-friendly tunes. I have a pretty good idea about what else is out there considering I collect heavy music like a lint-roller collects fuzz, and it doesn't get any better than this in the hard rock scene. Their new one is out in July, 2007.

I love this CD and have played it weekly since I bought it. I can not wait for the next CD.

BLAH.......2006-07-11
I bought this cd because I read awesome reviews for it and because according to Amazon, people who bought Submersed's "On due time" also bought this cd...I've given the cd a couple of plays and I just can't get into it. I feel like I'm listening to 30 Seconds to Mars, good, yet boring, lacking chemestry. So far all the songs sound just about the same. There are some good songs in there, but definetively not worth my 13 bucks.
Great rock CD.......2006-03-11
I'm constantly on the hunt through iTunes and the like for great music and found these guys initially via the Punisher movie soundtrack. Having heard one song prior to buying this disk, I was very pleased with every track. This CD is good from start to finish. Big thumbs up for Strata!
great debut!!!.......2006-01-06
I heard strata's song "never there" in a commercial for electra:the album, and I thought it sounded awesome. A while later I bought the cd, and was not dissapointed. This Jennifer Garner-starring film version Marvel Comics' martial arts expert/assassin-as-superhero never quite found its focus as successful big-screen adaptation. But its modern-rock song-score "Album" (Christophe Beck's more traditional orchestral score is also available) has no such obstacle, gathering together new recordings that punctuate the film's milieu with often forceful effectiveness. Jet keeps things lively with "Hey Kids," another rollicking dose of snotty retro-pop from the Aussie newcomers, while "Breathe No More" by Evanescence (previously only available as a live cut) is essentially a solo showcase for the emotive moodiness of singer Amy Lee's dusky voice, yet one that finds ample resonance with the film's title character. A shadowy remix of Finger Eleven's "Thousand Mile Wish," Taking Back Sunday's new "Your Own Disaster" and Strata's "Never There" mine a similarly introspective vein, contrasting well with more lively cuts like The Donnas' "Everything Is Wrong" and NYC's Twenty-Twos giving Veruca Salt's "5 Years" a nervy kick. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
Decent.......2007-03-08
The album is ok but I really only bought it to get the Evanescence song on it, which is fantstic :)
Great cd.......2007-02-25
This cd is really good. It has a lot of good rock songs. Even if you don't like ELEKTRA you will like this cd if you like rock music.
eh..........2006-10-08
I'm not really sure what to say about this compilation. For starters, I really did enjoy the addition of new songs by SpiderMan II-famous Jet, Evanescence with their previously live-only track Breathe No More, Strata, and a few more artists. Then we have Megan McCauley, who I think so deserves at least an MTV Music Award for this song. Yet, despite these praises, it really wasn't as good as I thought it was. It might be me just comparing it to the Daredevil soundtrack (as Elektra is the cohort to Daredevil)... or maybe I'm comparing one Evanescence song on this CD to two on Daredevil ("Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal"). Not sure. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not the worst CD out there... not by far. In fact, I really liked it. I just didn't like it enough to give it a full 5 stars. Maybe if they put stuff like "Before I Forget" or "Duality" by Slipknot or "Numb" or even "Frgt:10" by Linkin Park (the latter from Reanimation), I could have given it a higher rating. Don't let this scare you away from getting this, though. It's an awesome CD; it's also not the best in the world... but then again, what is?
It's decent.......2006-06-11
The songs on the soundtrack are either really good or really bad. The ones I think that are really good (and the reasons why I bought the soundtrack) are Tracks 6, 9, 12, and 15.
The rest of the songs aren't that good.
So basically the movie is better than the album. (Elektra receives 4 stars from me.)
If you like this soundtrack you will like the Daredevil Soundtrack.
5 out of 5.......2006-02-22

Amazon.com essential recording
Aural archaeologists Rich and Steve Roach delve deep into the strata of the primordial mind in this acclaimed 1990 collaboration. They forge a symbiotic artistic alliance where their signature sonic motifs are generally abandoned for the sake of a collective sound. Implementing their combined arsenal of synths, samplers, flutes, drums, and steel guitar, the duo creates a variety of moods and atmospheres--serene ambiences ("The Grotto of Time Lost"), ritualistic, rhythmic invocations ("Fearless"), intense dark ambient spaces ("Magma"), and surreal, bubbling soundscapes ("Persistence of Memory [For Dali]"). As with their other works, the composers utilize a balanced blend of organic and electronic instrumentation in an exploration of the human psyche that is simultaneously primal and cerebral. This album was a critical and commercial success, remaining on the Billboard New Age charts for several months after its initial release. --Bryan Reesman

Ambient deliciousness.......2004-03-03
I don't normally feel compelled to express my views for cds, games, or whatever, but for Strata, I finally felt I had to say something. It is just a lovely juicy slice of ambient deliciousness! I recently bought the older and much more acclaimed "Dreamtime Return" - while it is cool (why I was encouraged to get "Strata"), it really can't touch this gem. In fact, I would say that Strata makes Dreamtime seem longwinded and monotonous in comparison. Strata seems to use a much wider and richer array of wafty, floaty sounds and tinkling echoes than the mostly-woodblock-and-bongo-beating Dreamtime. The last time I was treated to ambient style music this good was perhaps 4 or 5 years ago when I was first knocked over by Future Sound of London's literally peerless "Lifeforms", an audio experience akin to falling on your face in an alien rainforest (one of my all time fave records, get it pronto). I don't think this topples Lifeforms (it has the edge - just - for sheer uniqueness and obscurity), but Strata is the only other record I've encountered that ever really came close enough to be worthy of a head-to-header. That's pretty high praise coming from such a picky listener as I!
Sophisticated, Trance-Inducing Masterpiece.......2003-03-18
I'm a part-time massage therapist, and I have used this CD many times during massage sessions on clients with a wide variety of music tastes. It is no exaggeration when I say that every one of these people loved this CD, and I personally would put it on my Top 10 all-time best list. The music is incredibly serene and relaxing, while never becoming tedious. The multi-layered interaction between electronic instruments and exotic percussion is ever spontaneous and varied. Ambient/Techno-Tribal music at its very best.
Timeless..........2001-12-20
Master synthesists Roach and Rich excavate evolutionary layers of sound from their machines on STRATA, their first collaboration. The musicians are kindred spirits in both substance and style, and their probing, questing sonic architecture seeks not only to unearth the tangible from the unknown, but also to alight the unknown with a spectral quality. Instead of seismometers and pickaxes, Roach and Rich use their battery of analog and digital synthesizers to seize the geologic moment, embedding it in the amber of the studio.
Like the translucent layers of the mineral bearing its name, "Mica" reveals a quartz-like refraction of images and movements, constructed with Rich's interlocking vibe grooves, percussive gemstones, and Roach's dense synthesizer shadings. "The Grotto of Time Lost" pushes one back even further into the pre-dawn era. Roach and Rich's electronics and sundry noisemakers peel back the undergrowth to reveal tectonic plates convulsing with the breath of newly hatched organisms and moist jungle growth. STRATA is undoubtedly one of the best stylistic collaborations of the '90s.
Best album ever.......2001-10-13
This is my opinion the best album ever made

different from the others-and just as good!.......2004-07-15
there are three dck cd's as far as I know;dreamatorium, disembodied, and tunnel(available only @ buckethead's website).disembodied and tunnel both are records that flow from song to song(each could be a single 50 minute track),but dreamatorium is the exception.the songs are all very ambient, but are distinctly different from one-another.my favorite track off of it has to be "maggot dream "because it's like somthing off"colma"only a tad bit more dark and brooding.if you have one dck cd,you need 'em all!
Buckethead gets ambient.......2002-07-20
It's hard to really describe this album to someone. It's hard to describe Buckethead to someone!
The album is composed of long, dreamlike ambient sounds, most of which I suspect Buckethead created with his guitar and effects processor. It's either relaxing or terrifying, depending on your mood and perception.
To tell the truth, this is a great thing to have on the stereo while you nap. Not too loud. It is like white noise, but interesting in this situation.
Really, your best bet is to listen to the tracks on this site.

Excellent Charles Tolliver Live.......2007-07-10
This is an excellent album, but not to be confused with Tolliver's earlier studio album "Impact." This is on Enja and is a remastered version with two extra cuts from the original (which is apparently still available). Only the title cut is the same between the two albums. Still, it has excellent sound quality, and of course excellent performances by Tolliver. You won't be disappointed. The studio "Impact" disc is also excellent (maybe better), by the way, if you can find it. I picked it up in Japan.
