An effective compilation of electronic pop with a narrow scope and an overly safe track listing but with plenty of highlights.Im a great fan of Jean Michel Jarre,and this compilation contains the majority of his best-known material.

Not The Original Artists.......2001-12-01

I bought this album expecting it to be a compilation of tracks as recorded by the orinial artists. As I listened to it, on the second track, Autobahn, I said to myself, "Hmm, that doesn't sound quite like I remember it, maybe it is a different mix than that on Kraftwerk's Autobahn album." The same thing occurred to me with Oxygene. Then, Electricity starts out like I expected, but the lyrics have been replaced with a synth line.

Every song on here that I was familiar with from the original artists' albums (and there are quite a few) were similar in many ways to the original versions, yet were different enough in the details to show that they *were not* the original versions.

Now, covering other people's songs is a long-established tradition. But, normally, the object of a cover version is to inject the new artist's style or ideas into the song. Here, the arrangements mimic the originals to the greatest extent possible. Furthermore, there are no markings on any of the CD covers or inserts to indicate that these tracks are indeed forgeries. True, the renditions are faithful to a degree, but knowing they are blatant forgeries lends the whole affair a cheesy atmosphere.

I will not be listening to this album again.
