This is an excellent compilation of CCR's tunes from the late 60s, early 70s. There's a reason why Credence tunes kept popping up in movies and commercials. It's great music and evocative of the era from which it comes. No need for me to review the individual tunes; anybody with a radio has head most of them. A must-have for any music fan.

These cd's are a great set of varied classical music. Pavane is my favorite. Additionally, Classical Chillout 2 offers theme music from Harry Potter and it is very well done.

The sum total of three 10-inch trio records recorded between 1949 and 1951, this provocative collection finds a restless pianist who is simply fascinated by contrasts in tone, color, and emotion. In many ways, Dave Brubeck is a scientist here, experimenting with polytones, unorthodox harmonies, twisted rhythms, and odd melodic variations that perhaps only made sense to him. Why pound jarringly through a tender ballad like "Laura"? Because it accentuates the utter beauty of its melody. Why begin the buoyant "Indiana" as a fragile poem? Because it accentuates the jaunty playfulness of its melody. Brubeck swings like mad one minute and is stiff as a board the next, not only toying with the listener, but with the time-tested standards that he molds into highly original performances. This is the only example that I know of from the pre-Oberlin College days. My tape of the old LP [I think it was a 10"] was ruined about 20 years ago. If you treasure your Brubeck collection and already have his solo piano album, this should be next!

The sound quality shows the effect of transcribing from vinyl, but the music is golden.

This release is the best way to aquire the nearly impossible to find 10-inch records released in the late forties/early fifties. If you are a fan of Brubecks more cookin' works (as opposed to his more ballad oriented stuff), this is the place to start. Cal Tjader's drums and liberal use of bongos and vibes work well against Brubeck's piano. Much different from his later 50s and 60s stuff, and with lower fidelity due to the age of the recordings. Great stuff!!

Shakespeare seems to be all the rage in the cinema world and record companies are seldom far behind. This is a Good Thing but it is easy to run out of ideas and/or saturate the market with Elizabethan-type programs; so one must find a gimmick. Telarc has found one, not very original perhaps, but pleasant enough for the listener. It is called (CD-80551) and contains music that comes from films and greater works. The films represented are "Shakespeare in Love," the second "Henry V," and the Zeffirelli "Romeo and Juliet." None of these, mind you, have any pretense at a late 16th century sound; and I would have strongly opted for the Olivier "Henry V" which at least used material from that period. But the keyword in this collection is "inspired," so let that rest. From the classics come some Mendelssohn "Midsummer Night's Dream" and some Berlioz "Romeo et Juliette" with some of Prokofiev's, and all of Tchaikovski's. Why Telarc didn't stick to just to the Romeo play makes me wonder. The best bit (to me) is the "Ave Maria" and final scene from Verdi's "Otello." This compilation features Kunzel and the Cincinatti Pops, Levi and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Maazel and the Cleveland Orchestra. The film music is generally played well given the level of it quality), the classical is better played on many other older recordings. Still this idea is a good one and perhaps Telarc will use it again using only classical or only film score sources.

For those of you who enjoy classical music, or even those of you who think harps are only for angels, this CD is definatly one to hear. The CD starts on a happy note and takes it's listener into every emotion the harp can take you, which is nearly all of them at the same time. Yes, I admit it; this CD has brought me to tears with its Clair de Lune. I have also watched as it brought another to the same end during the Aria. I highly recommend it for anyone who wishes a touch of elegance in their home.

I've got lots of upbeat classical stuff, but the sounds and tingling on this CD are fantastic. A great mix of traditional and contemporary pieces. This CD is a real ringer!

    Nothing underscores the tempo and mood of a movie like good soundtrack music. In this CD, the listener is treated to a wonderful mix of genre music from Science Fiction and Horror films. Orchestra conductor Dick James makes the most out of instrument placement, musical arrangement and stereo separation.

    If there is a downside, it can only be the absence of a theremin in "This Island Earth" and "It Came From Outer Space." Jacob opts for a jazz organ as an adequate substitute.

    The only other problem is the occasional squeaky chair noises the musicians make. But this tends to give the music a "live" sound rather than studio perfection.

    All in all, this is a wonderful collection that would accompany late night science fiction or horror reading perfectly.

      Leave it to Ruske to select works utterly unassociated with his instrument and then perform them in such a way that they seem practically idiomatic for the horn. I've been performing and teaching Schuman's Phantasiestücke for decades, and Ruske's version even opened my eyes and ears to some fresh moments in these stalwarts of the clarinet repertoire. Naturally he and Muzijevic perform with all the "sympatico" one comes to expect from two long-time collaborators.

      Eric Ruske's interpretations of this music is exquisite. He brings a new world of repertoire to the horn world and expands the possibilities of horn playing. A must-have for anyone pursuing a career in horn.
