I never thought I'd hear this beautiful CD again. I first bought this CD about 7 years ago and proceeded to give it away thinking I could buy it again. I have been looking for it ever since and finally found it at Amazon.com. Thank you Amazon!

This is one of Kitaro's most beautiful CDs. Beautiful in the sense that the sounds of simple harmony create endless waves of emotions. When I hear this music, I image myself in another space and time.

Music should make you feel good, and this music makes you feel great. Escape today's worries and problems by flying away on a silver cloud ... ride Kitaro's Silver Cloud, and be enchanted.

Julian Schnabel is the successor to Andy Warhol as a Manhattan painter turned celebrity, and he has used that media clout to secure a recording contract even though he has no discernible talent for making music. He could be described as a cross between Michael Bolton and Leonard Cohen, but unfortunately he writes songs like Bolton and sings like Cohen instead of the other way around. The combination of his treacly sentiment, pretentious poesy, tuneless croaking, and minimalist melodies is comic for a short time but soon turns annoying. Typical of the album is "I Tried," which finds a self-pitying Schnabel nasally whining over folk-rock guitars: "I know I drive you crazy with all the love that I have, but if you remember, there was some good times." Schnabel's debut recording actually boasts terrific backing tracks, thanks to the all-star band assembled by his co-producer and bassist Bill Laswell. Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell, Golden Palomino drummer Anton Fier, and jazz arranger Henry Threadgill create a glittering frame for Schnabel's musical canvas, but the songs themselves belong in the bottom of a bird cage. --Geoffrey Himes

but i dont care.. the thing is, there is something beautiful about this album. the lyrics are meaningful and schnabel has a sadness to his voice that fits everything together very well. all of it makes it uplifting and moving. its the album i listen to for the first few weeks whenever i meet a new girlfriend.

Laughably pretentious.......2004-04-17

This would be funnier if it weren't so pathetic. Julian Schabel can't sing -- or at least, no better than you can in your shower -- and writes in a painfully amatuerish way. If he weren't a billionaire celebrity painter, this wouldn't have seen the light of day. It's a handsomely produced effort, with fancy production values including a lyric booklet, and nothing bad to say about the back-up musicians and singers, who probably did their best. Embarassing all round in an "Emperor's New Clothes" sort of way. Maybe someone should do this guy a favor and tell him he has no talent. The only song that isn't unbearable is "Apartment #9", which turns out was written by Johnny Paycheck...no surprise. Not worth $1...not worth 50 cents. Avoid at all costs.
