Crowded House Reform - Official Statement from the Band
Crowded House founders Neil Finn and Nick Seymour have confirmed that they will be putting the band back together, with plans for a new studio album and world tour.
Talking about the decision Neil said "After spending most of last year making music and hanging out with my friend Nick Seymour we are now announcing our intention to reform Crowded House with a new record entitled Time On Earth. It feels right to us that the band should re-emerge at this time and together with Mark Hart we look forward to reconnecting with the audience that we established and for whom we still hold a deep respect. We aim to make the upcoming shows and the new music every bit as vital and spirited as what has come before. We are conscious that Paul Hester was above all a great drummer and we are currently auditioning to find someone special to take that role."
The band is currently putting the finishing touches on the new album for release later in the year. Tour plans are yet to be announced but the band have confirmed they will play the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in California USA along with Bjork, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Rage Against the Machine."
they are coming out with a new album this year (2007) and a new tour!!!!
GOD BLESS CROWDED HOUSE.....
Great CD.......2007-02-09
Essential compilation of severely underrated band.......2007-01-19
Almost every band purported to be the Next Big Thing eventually gets compared to The Beatles, whether it's Duran Duran or The Strokes, and it's usually quite a stretch in any number of ways. Not so with Crowded House. In superficial aesthetics the two bands share a lot in common: the Rubber Soul-like harmonies that adorn their album Woodface; the driving, melodic basslines of Nick Seymour (much like Paul McCartney); Paul Hester's non-technical, but undeniably toe-tapping drumming; and Neil Finn's voice, which can break into Lennon-esque, hoarse rock shout, or have a soothing clarinet quality like McCartney.
But the songwriting is where the comparison is most apt. The Beatles' best songs seem almost inevitable and cosmic: *somebody* was bound to happen upon a melody this perfect eventually (as in "Yesterday"), and for some reason Lennon and McCartney were able to pluck such songs out of the air regularly. Neil Finn did the same, several times for each album, with Crowded House. Listen to "Four Seasons In One Day" just once, and you'll hear what I mean.
With this album, all these songs are collected in one place. I can't say how essential this disc is for anyone who appreciates outstanding pop songwriting that goes beyond catchy and crafted and into the realm of something deep and transcendent. The first 10 listens you'll be enjoying the melodies, energy and fantastic production; after that, you'll feel like you've found a new musical best friend. It's that good.
An entire CD that is very easy to listen to........2007-01-13
beautiful, soaring, exciting pop/rock.......2006-12-31
Crowded House may not be a major band - one MTV hit, a couple of radio hits, and they're real big in New Zealand (where they are from) - but they are one of greats. Reminiscent at times of (OK, I know, this gets thrown around too often, but it's true) the Beatles (in their mid-years - think Rubber Soul) and The Ocean Blue, they can mellow with the best (Not the Girl You Think You Are, Four Seasons in One Day). When they choose to rock (Locked Out), the maintain musical and lyrical integrity. Weather With You is an indescribable joy.
Perhaps not for metalheads, but anyone who likes sophisticated (but not overly complex) arrangements, thoughtful lyrics, and spotless, emotional performance will love this.

Major Triumph For This Orchestra Star.......2004-03-27
Here he delights with three concertos written for him and his instrument. Each different and adding to the growing collection of works for this solo workhorse.
Rorem's Concerto is just outstanding, especially the 2nd Movement named Love Letter and 3rd named: Recurring Dream. Its sonorous overtones are well suited for the EH, backed by nicely balanced orchestration of lilty, floating horns, strings, flute.
Persichetti's Concerto for EH and String Orchestra is directed again for Stacy's talents and showcases them magnificently. An opener of fantasia is followed by the robust second "Amabile" which bustles and rustles with circulating lightness into the "Butterfly Song." The third move is a favorite of the CD, Spiritoso which zooms and shifts gears allowing Stacy to enter and exit from and around the strings, emanating a dancelike finish.
Hodkinson ventures into the unknown. Imagine, electrified English Horn with reverb, modulation. Perfect for a piece meant to resemble mind journey... meandering, then clear, then muddled and complexed, then darting. Tedious at points. Eruptive. Gradually moves to bursts where we can identify this is really English Horn distorted sounds. Least of the three for me.
A great edition to any double reed player's library!!.......1999-03-14

Album Description
Recurring Dream is inspired by those elusive visions that fascinate us - the time just before waking, shadows in the rain, scenes that visit our sleep again and again, and the icy light accompanying these nighttime images. These original compositions by Sylvan Grey contain sensitively phrased melodies and delicious harmonies. Grey produces a lush, full sound from the kantele by skillfully adding bell-like accents, ringing harmonics, arpeggios, and delicate ostinatos. The music is both exciting and intimate. Solidly constructed, it appeals to our intellect as well as our emotions. All the selections are unedited and were digitally recorded without the use of any electronic processing. Recurring Dream is a beautiful release and is sure to be enthusiastically favored among lovers of acoustic music. Her other recording on Fortuna Records is Ice Flowers Melting.

4 1/2 Stars: Nice Live Disc.......2005-08-22
Recurring Dream Bonus Disc
I'm not usually too excited about live albums, but this record, released as a bonus disc to Recurring Dream is good enough to stand enough on its own; as a bonus it's simply superlative. There's also very little crossover with the greatest hits tracks, as only four songs appear on both discs, and it covers a bunch of excellent Crowded House songs that didn't make the cut. `There Goes God', `Whispers and Moans' `Kill Eye' and `Love You Til The Day I Die' all could have held their own on Recurring Dream, and they're all presented in excellent live versions, making the 2CD version a much more valuable Crowded House anthology than the first disc alone. There are also a couple of otherwise unreleased songs - the catchy and atmospheric `Newcastle Jam' and `Left Hand'. Most of the recordings come from the 1990s, with Mark Hart featuring as the keyboard player or second guitarist - he's almost the ideal foil for the band, either able to reproduce or improve the original arrangement. While Hester and Seymour were fine musicians their influence wasn't always that apparent on record, but they were much more integral on stage - Hester's pranks (an extreme example entailed coming on alone for an encore in a Santa suit playing metal guitar riffs, stripping naked, then making obscene noises in the mike) were an important part of the band's charm.
I'm rather indifferent to the live versions of the Together Alone material here; `In My Command' lacks the energy of the studio version and `Pineapple Head' and `Private Universe' lack a bit of atmosphere, but otherwise these songs are pretty much all at least as enjoyable as their studio counterparts. Particular highlights include `There Goes God', much punchier here than on record, while the epic ten minute take on `Hole In The River', ending with traditional Irish ballad `The Parting Glass', blows away the studio version and might be my favourite Crowded House track ever. Lots of compilations throw on a couple of otherwise unavailable songs to entice completists, but there's a whole disc of first rate material here that any Crowded House fan will want to hear; it's not too hard to find copies of the bonus disc edition in New Zealand, but overseas fans may struggle to track it down. - Fyfeopedia Music Reviews
One of the best albums in my collection.......2004-10-12
My favourites are timeless melodic classics like Weather With You (my favourite Crowded House song), Four Seasons In One Day, Better Be Home Soon, and Don't Dream It's Over (their biggest worldwide hit single), but I also like the more up-tempo stuff like the joyous Something So Strong, the perfect pop of It's Only Natural and the newer stuff from their last year together like Instinct nnd particularly Everything Is Good For You (their last chart hit).
The bonus live versions are definitely worth having, and some of the band's famous joviality comes through on the snippets of talking between songs.
I rate Crowded House as one of the best bands ever in pop/rock music and Recurring Dream is one of my 10 favourite albums of the 90's.
5 stars!!!

The compilation Crowded House fans should own.......2006-11-10
Recently another edition emerged with a greatest hits DVD included. The songs are still great but most of the videos have aged rather poorly. An exception is Weather with You (my son's favorite!) which is joyful and fun and Distant Sun, a dreamy video that tastefully complements one of their best songs. My son actually loves most of the songs post Weather with You but he may simply like the overuse of colors (huge Yellow Submarine fan) and simply great songs. Being a big fan myself, this is a must have for me but friends and family mostly laugh when they see most of these videos.
Recurring Dream is thus a great buy for most people. Any fan should add a few extra dollars and purchase this edition including the live set and only the hard core fans should also get the DVD version (that can be actually bought separately).
