Customer Reviews:
eh...too new agey.......2007-03-13
I guess I'm more of a classical Christmas music person. This is just too new agey for me.
A Magical Christmas Indeed!.......2006-12-13
The title and cover art for "Enchantment:A Magical Christmas" should conjure up some special yuletide feelings before listening. The music
on here does precisely that. Some tracks were written for other Narada
compilations, five were written just fot this CD. But, don't let that deter you, the music is cohesive thoughout. Taking traditional carols and
making them contemporary utilizing synths, background vocals and strings.
A perfect balance of the electronic and acoustic worlds. This truely is
an Enchanted CD that is very magical. In my humble opinion, one of the
best holiday CDs out there. If you're and Ark fan you should love this. If not, take a chance on one of the great musical underdogs of our time. You will not be disappointed!
A nice album.......2006-10-10
Enchantment: A Magical Christmas, released in 1997, is the tenth full-length album from David Arkenstone. Of the album's 12 tracks, seven are gathered from various multi-artist Christmas compilations from the Narada label, and five were especially recorded for Enchantment: A Magical Christmas. The musicianship and sound quality of this album are gratifying. My favorite compositions are the serene, pretty "Do You Hear What I Hear," the sprightly, fun "Overture," and the stately, resplendent "Silver Bells." The CD foldout includes an essay and a photo of Arkenstone; this same photo is also on the back of the CD jewel case. The disc is just over 55 minutes. I am impressed with Arkenstone's interpretations of these Christmas pieces, which are rich in sound--in addition, I enjoy listening to this album throughout the year. Actually, I rate this piece of work 3.5 stars. Arkenstone is a gifted artist, and I recommend this album.
overrated (overpriced).......2006-01-24
Can you judge a guy by his hair length? Do all long-haired guys (ringlets!) make the same kind of music? Kenny G? Arkenstone? Um...yep. Songs that would be fine if three minutes in length are streched to five, the "filler" resembling "sawdust". Brings to mind the gratuitious, overlong rock guitar solos of the 60's (Clapton comes to mind). Brevity, brevity, Arkenstone! Resist the urge, Arkenstone! Lean! Cut the chaff! Woulda been better! Make it five minutes if you can repeat the good stuff (yeah, there is good stuff here) or if you have more good stuff to pile on. What's the good stuff? In the ear of the beholder, I guess. Just my opinion. Would not have bought this had I heard it first. Certainly not worth the exhorbitant used cd price.
