Album Description

The ice machine in my refrigerator broke. I called a service technician to fix it. He showed up at my house and began working on the problem while I proceeded to work on my music. When he was finished, he came to my studio (that was in a bedroom no bigger than a closet) to present the bill to me. He noticed that I had an acoustic guitar in the corner. He told me he was a guitar player. I asked him, somewhat cynically, if he'd like to play my guitar. He paused for a moment, looked me in the eyes, answered `yes' in a whisper, then picked up the guitar, sat on the floor and began to play.

From the very first note, all I could think about were the words: Hands of God. I've known musicians for most of my 40 + years on this earth, and never had I heard such beautiful music. At that moment I vowed one day I would build a studio, and in this studio there would be a special room. And one day in this special room, this man would sit and play, and I'd record him for all the world to hear, this man who called himself Tony Sandate.

Looking back, what I've learned is that every one of us has a gift inside: a beautiful, uniquely precious gift to share. When I meet someone, I remember that, and I realize how absolutely beautiful everyone is.

God teaches me in such interesting ways . . .

-Eric McCarl

This is what I wrote on the CD insert in Sunset Meditation. It's a story of how I met Tony Sandate, and every word is true. This is Tony's debut CD, and contains 15 songs of solo nylon string guitar. When asked as to what 'style' of music, I can only reply that it's a cross between Spanish, Classical and full of Soul, yet words couldn't come close to how beautiful the music is. The music merely serves as a window into the soul of one of the most incredible artists of our time, Tony Sandate.

5 out of 5 stars Very Soothing.......2007-04-24

I love this cd. It's very soothing to clean house to, or take a long bath.

5 out of 5 stars Hands of God.......2006-05-23

Eric McCarl is not exaggerating when he used this phrase to describe Tony Sandate. I buy many things from Amazon but have never done a review until now. This is one of the most exceptional works I've ever heard. That it moves the soul to a profound peace is an understatement. If you never buy another CD in your life, buy this one. Listen to it when it calls you. Thank you Tony for giving us your gift.

5 out of 5 stars Little known JEM!.......2005-10-19

I typically don't listen to this genre of music, but I stummbled upon one of his songs one day and I've been hooked ever since! Tony Sandate is a tremendous musician with a sound that stirs the soul. His style is peaceful, yet not AT ALL 'elevator music'. I listen to this CD at work all the time and it's a calming influence on an otherwise stressful day.

5 out of 5 stars Where has he been !!!! Wonderful.......2005-04-01

Only once in a life time do you stumble upon such talent as
Tony Sandate. I ask anyone who might know, please encourage him to produce some more work. Anyone who buys "Sunset Meditation" will not be disappointed

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2005-03-11

Where has he been? His sound is magnificent - you can feel his heart with every note. Very soulful. I would/will recommend him to everyone I know.

Approaching the voice as an instrument, British-born Indian Sheila Chandra brings an expansive, timeless quality to this collection of improvised songs based on ragas and modern folk music. Most of the tracks, outside of the drone, are unadorned--as is Chandra's pretty voice, simple in its low tone and unaffected in vocal style. Still, Chandra travels to expansive places, reliving her days as Monsoon's lead singer on "Ever So Lonely/Eyes/Ocean." Though Chandra revisits British and Celtic music, her voice is at its strongest when borrowing from traditional Indian vocal technique and ragas. "Bhajan" is a soothing hymn with drone as are "Sacred Stones" and "Om Namaha Shiva," proving Chandra has indeed succeeded in connecting to ancestral voices for a lovely, meaningful album. --Karen K. Hugg

5 out of 5 stars ARTFUL MUSIC.......2007-07-19

Sheila Chandras music on the "Weaving my Ancestors Voices" is difinitive in its impact. It is unforgettable as the musical manifestation of a beautiful history of voice and sound.

As an artist i use music to paint to and i find this particularly atmospheric and evocative without jarring the soundscape. Meditative and contemplative with universal appeal.

Certainly defined for me as one of her great new creations. for all musical tastes.

4 out of 5 stars Very relaxing.......2006-11-10

Sheila Chandra is one of my favorites. Her voice is so smooth and rich. The execution of each note is right in tune. The bols she sings is very interesting, not a favorite of mine, but I do find it amazing that someone can sing like that. If you purchase this CD, I think you'll be pleased.

3 out of 5 stars A Voice To Be Reckoned With.......2003-08-17

First, let me say that if you prefer your world music with strong instrumentation over vocals, then this is not the album for you. Sheila Chandra takes her listener's on a musical voyage using almost nothing but her versatile, compelling voice. The instrumentation is made up mostly of drones, and even that is minimal. But if you are a fan of voice, or a cappala work, you will dig this album.
Chandra lives up to the title of this disc by weaving eclectic vocal styles from various traditions together, sometimes on the same track, as on the so-so Dhyana and Donalogue. The stronger tracks include Nana/The Dreaming, The Enchantment, and the totally inspired weaving together of Ever So Lonely/Eyes/Ocean. And as a previous reviewer noted, the two Speaking In Tongues tracks have to be heard atleast once, but after that, they really are skippable (thank God for programmable CD players) as they don't offer much in way of asthetic enjoyment.
So all in all, the album is hit and miss. It really works best as background music, for relaxation or while surfing the 'net. Of course, Sheila's best was yet to come on ABoneCroneDrone, but you can hear the seeds of that work being planted here on this somewhat experimental disc.

3 out of 5 stars Mostly cool.......2002-12-05

I purchased this album after hearing Sheila's work on several Makyo albums and because I loved Sacred stones ( it is also on the Trance Planet compilations). This is a great album, running the gamut from Indian vocal Ragas to an amazing blend of Indian and Celtic sounds. As much as I love this album, I wish it was not so varied. It jumps back and forth in tone and tempo which makes it hard to use for mood or meditation. Shifting from raga to ambient tone it a bit jarng either way you go. Still a fantastic album and worth owning.

4 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2002-06-27

Sheila Chandra is a good artist that hasn't got her due. Her vocal skills are comparable to Enya and yet she is nowhere to be found on the airwaves...even on world music and alternative stations.

This is a good CD but I liked her other CDs like Quiet and Zen Kiss better.

Chosen from a dozen recent recordings by contemporary Native American women artists, the music of Weaving the Strands is a banquet of spirited sustenance, reflecting the various passages, celebrations, and phases of feminine life. There are call and response and group chants, songs of meditation, worship, and joyous revelry as interpreted by women from tribes including Chippewa, Mestizo, Cherokee, and Muscogee. New listeners of Native American music may well be surprised by the marriage of anticipated flute, drum, and chant, and chant with plugged-in jazz guitar and country fiddle. Liner notes wisely provide information on the artists and the original recordings from whence their contributions come. Among the most well known in the group, Navajo songmaker Sharon Burch renders two of the most moving compositions, the reflective "I Walk Alone" and "Sacred Wind," featuring an extraordinary fiddle line twining round her expressively centered vocal. --Paige La Grone

5 out of 5 stars Constantly on my top 10 list.......2006-07-21

If I were stranded on a turtle island and I could only bring along 10 cds, this would be on my list. Whomever chose the songs that ended up on this collection is also welcome on my island. :)

The music is fairly far reaching in its scope with the possible exception of all the vocalists being female. From some traditional songs with only a drum accompanyment to contemporary poetry atop music, this CD has burned itself into my own mind with its lyrical and intriguing music.

I'm not all about native American music. Still, this CD makes me want to hear more. Simply stated, it is excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2004-03-19

I purchased this Cd with the hopes of hearing the Native American laguages spoken or in this case sung. This is a great Cd. I have learned the words and now sing along. I only wish that they had provided a translation page so that I knew what I was singing. This is a must have for anyone that loves native music or just loves great music.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfully ecletic collection........2003-01-30

An excellent sample of songs from the North American continent.
The CD contains some excellent tracks and is a very good starting point from which albums of the artists featured here can then be purchased, for example Sharon Burch, Walela and Joanne Shenandoah.
However the album works well as a collection in its own right with a suitably varied colection of cntemporary North American women artists.
A CD that will bring joy to the ear from the sheer beauty of the music.

4 out of 5 stars Nice for more poppy fans.......2002-11-14

This is nice music. It unfortunately did not suit what I was looking for though. I was looking for more authentic native music. This contains a few authentic native songs but most are more pop than anything else. The music is still nice, as I said, if you are looking for pop. I still do not regret the buying of this cd because it made me discover one of the most beautiful tunes I ever heard. Ulali. It`s a trio. Incredibly intense and magical and beautiful and strong. Them I will get a cd of.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Haunting, Inspirational.......2000-12-19

I purchased this CD for myself and enjoy it more each time it is played. I own many CD's of various Native American drumming groups, flutes, and singers, this has to be one of the best. Many languages, styles and much beauty are contained in this creation of songs from popular Native American women. A work of art and a gift from Spirit.

Album Description

Enter the Worship Circle: First Circle is a unique praise and worship album. While most such recordings contain covers of the worship standards, this album features all original songs written by 100 Portraits and Waterdeep . What's more, the songs were recorded live and unplugged, and the instrumentation is composed solely of the jangle of acoustic guitars and the rhythms of hand drums. The result is a worship album for those dismayed or uninterested in the grandiose production and operatic vocals of typical praise and worship albums. Enter the Worship Circle :First Circle has a sound that is open and free-form, beautiful as a well-laid plan, but spontaneous as a sincere declaration of love.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I Will Not Forget This CD!.......2006-06-06

This CD always makes it back into my CD player rotation. It is one of my favorite worship CDs for these reasons: it is raw but passionate and it is extremely catchy. Being a praise band, I have loved doing covers of I Will Not Forget You, You Are So Good to Me, You Have Redeemed My Soul, Tender Mercy, and I Could Run Away. These are some of the best praise songs of all time! This CD was recorded in a circle (thus the band name) and it is the best circle of the circles by far. I love the unique folksy songs and you can just picture the musicians playing in a circle with their eyes closed praising to the one true God above. Ben Pasley and Don Chaffer have written brilliant songs that will always find a place in my CD player. Only criticism is that the female vocals sometimes sound a bit whiny. But for the most part, everything sounds great and I wish there were more out their singing with such passion!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome God Praise.......2004-11-02

100 Portraits and Waterdeep have an uncanny way of presenting music that sounds like something God would want to hear! They sing Psalms and praise in such a fresh and simple way. I just love this CD. The simplicity of the songs seems to enable a deeper connection to the Lord while I listen.

5 out of 5 stars true worship that's simple and beautiful.......2003-02-07

'enter the worship circle' is a worship experience you don't want to miss! the lyrics are simple so you can catch on quickly. the music is simple [guitar, i think] and let's you focus on God rather than the music. the worship is so fresh and real that it just draws you in and encourages you to worship God. no fancy sound effects or instruments. there's also a booklet that gives you some advice on how to write your own worship music. it's an amazing cd :) a definite must-have!

5 out of 5 stars Best Worship CD thus far..........2002-11-16

If you call yourself a Christian and have not at least heard this CD, you are truly missing out on real worship and intimacy with Jesus. 100 Portraits and Waterdeep have been absolutely filled with the Holy Spirit in the creation of this album. The songs are truly God breathed, coming from Divine inspiration. This CD will change your life! I cannot even begin to choose a favorite song...every single one is awesome! If you are really wanting to experience God in a way you never have before...get this CD! I recommend listening to it in your room alone; just let the words sing to your heart and you will have one of the greatest times in worship with our awesome Father. Just let God come and meet you half way....He wants to speak to you through this album!

5 out of 5 stars Get ready to be inspired.......2002-02-27

I was so inspired by this album; the music, the emotion, the honesty and the simpleness of the rhythms and sounds. The instructions inside the jacket helped me to write many of my own songs. If you enjoy worshiping God, you'll enjoy this CD.

4 out of 5 stars ANJANI SACRED NAMES - SO SO.......2007-02-04

Should have guessed by the title, it is a bit too far on the worship-music side for my liking, kind of choir-like. Anjani's voice is always superb, no complaints ever about that, just that this is not her usual style and nowhere near jazz-like. Good for a kid's lullabye music cd.

1 out of 5 stars Unmoved.......2006-11-06

Monotonous and lack luster performances; the words and lyrics do not resonate with an authenticity. A total drag to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Putting on the garment of His Presence.......2005-01-30

Anjani Thomas contributes her lovely voice to Leonard Cohen's masterpiece Dear Heather, adding a touch of the sublime to songs like On That Day (They Wounded New York) and Nightingale. This uplifting album of her own songs is a work of devotion in praise of our Judeo-Christian God.

As such, it mirrors the work of the Psalmist. Anjani plays keyboards and guitar while bass and percussion round of the sound, which is mostly gentle and acoustic. The moving Kyrie Eleison is sung in Greek, whilst Yoshua is a blend of Hebrew and English and the gripping Ari Shemot contains Hebrew, Portuguese and English in a seemless blend of beauty.

The song Praise is an invocation of divine and angelic names like Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel and Michael, a gentle but powerful prayer. Another of my favourites is the comforting and reassuring Yeshurun and the exultant Blessing where her voice really soars on the most beautiful melody on the album. In style, this one in fact reminded me of the early work of folk legend Judy Collins.

The last two tracks are quite mystical and gnostic, YHVH being especially enchanting with awesome comforting and healing emanations. This song would be ideal for devotional activities like meditation and prayer. In this regard, interested listeners might want to investigate Jonathan Goldman's CD Holy Harmony: Healing Code Tuning Forks And Ancient YHSVH Chant.

Those who love Van Morrison in his more spiritual moments, or the classical work Tehillim (Psalms) by Steve Reich, will definitely love this graceful work of devotion. Amongst female artists, this spiritual undertone is also present in the work of vocalists like Emmylou Harris, Jennifer Warnes and Jane Siberry.

The CD case contains a glossary of Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Syriac (Aramaic) terms. The Sacred Names is a real find, and I thank Leonard Cohen who, by using Anjani's voice on his latest album, put me on her trail. Let all that breathe praise the Eternal.

5 out of 5 stars The Sacred Names.......2003-02-10

I am not a religious man. But I highly appreciate this CD.
All her songs are very comforting.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2001-10-28

Anjani takes a different approach on her sophomore release, The Sacred Names, produced with Leonard Cohen. Using her delicate harmonies and talent as a keyboardist, Anjani sings her praises to the Lord. But don't expect the usual Christian album here. Anjani continues to include her Hawaiian/Jazz/Folk influences, making The Sacred Names stand out from contemporary Christian releases.

With eclectic melodies tailored by the voices of Ben and Robin Pasley, Barry & Michelle Patterson and Kate Hurley this album is a worthy continuation of the insanely popular Worship Circle series. The recording is as live and rambunctious as any before, and the feel of being in a living room surrounded by hand drums and people who love God is tangible...

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2005-02-20

This cd is amazing!!!! The best one yet. Some of the most beautiful worship songs that I have everr heard!!

5 out of 5 stars Third Circle = the best yet.......2004-06-06

One could only imagine my excitement when two of my favorite bands, Waterdeep & 100 Portraits, joined together to make a worship album; I wasn't disappointed. The "First Circle" was an amazing experience, but it didn't end there. 100 Portraits gave us another Circle, which was also good but not as good as the first. Now, with the "Third Circle," Ben & Robin Pasley (100 Portraits) have joined thier incredible talent and rhythms with Kate Hurley and Berry & Michelle Patterson to record the most incredible worship album I have ever heard. The songs are extremely intimate as only guitars and hand percussion instruments are used, but they are also filled with life, moving the listener into the presence of God. This is a must have album! Finally, some inovative Christian music that is setting standards instead of simply copying redundant mainstream junk.

5 out of 5 stars Does Not Disappoint.......2003-12-31

Yes, like you, I was hesitant to purchase the third installment of Enter The Worship Circle. Yes, like me, you will purchase this album and not be disappointed.

The First installment blew me away (four stars). The Second was good and had it's moments but was redundant in places to the first (3 stars). The Third installment might actually be as good, if not better than the first, because it manages to match the first in emotional punch and lyrical beauty yet retains a freshness it shouldn't have as a sequel but does.

If this album doesn't make you get up and dance and sing along then you probably have died and NOT gone to heaven.

4 out of 5 stars music is a candle, is a portal to God.......2003-11-20

This CD was mailed to me right here in the middle of a stressful time in art college- I have escaped into it every evening, and even brought it to listen to in my studio. I am an avid follower of the Pasley's, and their hearts, and the hearts of the other people on this album are so sincere and beautful. Tracks 5, 11, and 14 are my favorites!

these short piano pieces are simple, but absolutely not boring. gurdjieff and de hartmann wrote some of the most thoughtful and sincere music you'll ever hear. I found this CD over a year ago and it's one I return to over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars Cacaphonic Harmonious.......2001-07-15

Truly an exposition of beautiful "objective" listening. This music will not put you to sleep. Transitions are abrupt and engaging throughout the score's entirity. I play the music whenever I find myself searching for something to do or am bored. This music will consume all negativity and poke the listner to begin a stirring sensation in their own mentation. The music is not sophisticated or eligant by no means, but has a way about it which will intrige one to listen again and again.

Product Description

What do you get when you mix a father who is a Rhythm and Blues guitar player, a house that always had something soulful with a groove playing in the background, and a mother who taught her only child how to sing harmonies, sitting around the dinner table? Miles Roy-Rogers (a.k.a. Fundamental Sound) was born June 24, 1977 in Ashland Oregon, and literally took his first breath, then began singing and creating wicked grooves! Family friend and neighbor Todd Barton (Resident Composer for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival) would synthesize sounds and test them on young Miles to see what kind of emotional reaction they d evoke; Scary, Fun, Sad, etc. This relationship with Todd developed into a full blown mentorship in High School, and continues to this day. Listening to the home grown samples on Mirror of Time leaves little doubt that Todd s synthesizers had a strong influence on Mile s work. Through Todd, Miles was introduced to Jeff Stolet (Philip H. Knight Professor of Music, and Director of Future Music Oregon) whose Future Music Oregon program associated with the Music Technology track of the University of Oregon School of Music, where Miles got his secondary education. While attending the U of O, Miles answered a flyer that a band put out looking for a Reggae Keyboardist. Band Leader Bibs Goff (More Time), a staple of the Oregon reggae community, took Miles under his wing. With the expert guidance of Bibs, Miles learned how to sit deep in the pocket of a reggae groove. Pushing the Bubble, Piano bang, and lead lines for More Time, Miles came into contact with many of Reggae Music s Forefathers. Opening for bands like the Wailers (Bob Marley s Band), Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Toots and the Maytals, The Abyssinians, Culture, Pato Banton, Third World, Eek-A-Mouse and many more, lead Miles to some crucial conversations and realizations. Miles would sit for hours listening to the opinions, philosophy and even theology of these Forefathers. These conversations heavily shaped the thoughts and compositions of Miles. Eventually Miles was hired to play keyboards and had the opportunity to go on a small tour of the Pacific Northwest as a part of the backing band for Apple Gabriel (Founding member of the Israel Vibration). Yearning to learn and discover more, after Graduating from the University of Oregon with a Degree in Music Technology and a Minor in Business, Miles realized he would need to relocate to a bigger city where he could advance his education and become more skilled in the studio. Miles headed to the heart of the music-meets-technology scene, Southern California. After just over a year in Los Angeles, he found himself working as a Studio Engineer for the University of Southern California (USC) Cinema-Sound Department. This was exactly the opportunity and education Miles was looking for, and the best part was... he was getting paid! For the next 3 years, Miles honed his craft of recording and mixing for both music and Film at USC. During his current stint in LA, Miles has played with a few local reggae bands: The Legalizers, Bonsai Tribe, and The Fire Burn Crew (Backing Shine Head). Miles spends most of his time in his home studio in North Hollywood, CA, that he lovingly refers to as The Asylum , the walls of which are covered with recycled down comforters. Miles told me Padded walls are one way to always keep me wondering whether I m crazy or not. Either way, let s hope wherever Miles Rogers of Fundamental Sound is locked up, his musical instruments and recording equipment are only an arm s length away!

"Mirror of Time" is a smooth blend of Reggae, R&B and world grooves, all tied together with Miles Rogers great vocals and remarkable talents with many instruments. Interesting spoken word clips add one more level to a very cool album. "In Rewind" and "Wicked System" have really caught me. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Smooth.......2007-06-06

Mirror of Time is an impressive array of diverse music one might only find in a compilation CD. What separates this CD is that most of the work is done by one artist, Miles Rogers.

Listening to Mirror of Time is truly a relaxing experience. With 19 songs, and over an hour of music, this CD is a deal.

5 out of 5 stars Should be required listening.......2006-11-13

Peter Mayer, brother Jim, Roger Guth, and the rest of this band are some of the most brilliant musicians to come together and form a band. This album is fantastic from start to finish. Peter's voice and guitar work, the wonderful lyrics, and the stylistic melodies are a pleasure to listen to again and again. Very relaxing yet inspiring music. This is a must have for every music lover!!!

5 out of 5 stars Not only a great: singer/songwrite/musician/composer/etc.etc.......2006-10-13

Peter has his own recording studio and does all the sound mixing for Jimmy Buffett. He has years of experience and talent; even enough to make Jimmy sound good. When someone that knows the how and why behind taking something that sounds good and making it sound great becomes the artist, they start with great and make it superb. Music Box is just that, superb!

5 out of 5 stars Breath of FRESH air!.......2005-10-17

I bought Peter's "Music Box" & "Stirrin' Up The Water" CDs last year and haven't listen to anything as much as these two since. If I could write and produce songs like this I'd be a happy man, well lets just say way happier. The dynamics, musicianship, detail and production chops on these two albums are stunning. Forget that he is Jimmy Buffett's guitarist... you'd never know it. Any recording musicians out there that need inspiration... this is it. Total ear candy. Truly an original breath of fresh air.

5 out of 5 stars The best album I've heard in many a year..........2004-10-15

...and that's not just rhetoric. This album is wonderful. The lyrics are deep and insightful, the production is very pleasant and not overbearing, and it has the hallmark of all Peter Mayer work - incredible musicianship and wonderful arrangements. That and a boatload of hooks.

When I say Peter Mayer, people say "who"? Then I tell them that his day job is the lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffett's band, and he plays to his real muse in his own group. I tell them that his sound is like a cross between Dave Matthews and Paul Simon (and on this album there's some more poppy stuff that I swear could be on a Sugar Ray album if it was only a little poppier). The music runs the gamut from folk to jazz and dixieland to pop to world beat and gospel. And it all works. This album is that good. (And the song Faith in Angels was just broadcast on the MTV show "Made"). The title track is stirring, both lyrically and in the song structure.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Peter Mayer and his brother Jim (the bassist) and they are amazingly humble for the talent they possess. Don't let them be secrets, for this music needs to be heard. "Adult Album Alternative" radio should be all over this.

    5 out of 5 stars A Very Special Album.......2004-10-07

Peter Mayer has been Jimmy Buffett's lead guitarist for 15 years. Sadly, his incredible guitar playing and song writing, which has inspired 7 fantastic solo albums, seems to be a well-kept secret within the Buffett fan base and a small but dedicated fan base for Peter.

But that fan base is growing every day thanks to consistently great new releases, such as "Musicbox."

This album has all of the great attributes that make Peter such a great songwriter, musican and performer. The songs are lyrically deep and introspective, and feature likeable textures created by the world-class musicans that make up the Peter Mayer Group.

This includes artists like Roger Guth and Jim Mayer, accomplished musicians who share the stage with Peter in Jimmy Buffett's band. But it also includes appearances by legendary jazz drummer Dave Weckl, and the extremely accomplished and diverse songwriter, pianist and producer, Jay Oliver.

With all of this in mind, the album still has tremendous pop value, and Peter's virtuoso guitar playing and crystal-clear voice combine with these other incredible musicians to form 14 great songs.
