Album Description
The ice machine in my refrigerator broke. I called a service technician to fix it. He showed up at my house and began working on the problem while I proceeded to work on my music. When he was finished, he came to my studio (that was in a bedroom no bigger than a closet) to present the bill to me. He noticed that I had an acoustic guitar in the corner. He told me he was a guitar player. I asked him, somewhat cynically, if he'd like to play my guitar. He paused for a moment, looked me in the eyes, answered `yes' in a whisper, then picked up the guitar, sat on the floor and began to play. From the very first note, all I could think about were the words: Hands of God. I've known musicians for most of my 40 + years on this earth, and never had I heard such beautiful music. At that moment I vowed one day I would build a studio, and in this studio there would be a special room. And one day in this special room, this man would sit and play, and I'd record him for all the world to hear, this man who called himself Tony Sandate.
Looking back, what I've learned is that every one of us has a gift inside: a beautiful, uniquely precious gift to share. When I meet someone, I remember that, and I realize how absolutely beautiful everyone is.
God teaches me in such interesting ways . . .
-Eric McCarl
This is what I wrote on the CD insert in Sunset Meditation. It's a story of how I met Tony Sandate, and every word is true. This is Tony's debut CD, and contains 15 songs of solo nylon string guitar. When asked as to what 'style' of music, I can only reply that it's a cross between Spanish, Classical and full of Soul, yet words couldn't come close to how beautiful the music is. The music merely serves as a window into the soul of one of the most incredible artists of our time, Tony Sandate.

Approaching the voice as an instrument, British-born Indian Sheila Chandra brings an expansive, timeless quality to this collection of improvised songs based on ragas and modern folk music. Most of the tracks, outside of the drone, are unadorned--as is Chandra's pretty voice, simple in its low tone and unaffected in vocal style. Still, Chandra travels to expansive places, reliving her days as Monsoon's lead singer on "Ever So Lonely/Eyes/Ocean." Though Chandra revisits British and Celtic music, her voice is at its strongest when borrowing from traditional Indian vocal technique and ragas. "Bhajan" is a soothing hymn with drone as are "Sacred Stones" and "Om Namaha Shiva," proving Chandra has indeed succeeded in connecting to ancestral voices for a lovely, meaningful album. --Karen K. ARTFUL MUSIC.......2007-07-19
As an artist i use music to paint to and i find this particularly atmospheric and evocative without jarring the soundscape. Meditative and contemplative with universal appeal.
Certainly defined for me as one of her great new creations. for all musical tastes.

A Voice To Be Reckoned With.......2003-08-17
Chandra lives up to the title of this disc by weaving eclectic vocal styles from various traditions together, sometimes on the same track, as on the so-so Dhyana and Donalogue. The stronger tracks include Nana/The Dreaming, The Enchantment, and the totally inspired weaving together of Ever So Lonely/Eyes/Ocean. And as a previous reviewer noted, the two Speaking In Tongues tracks have to be heard atleast once, but after that, they really are skippable (thank God for programmable CD players) as they don't offer much in way of asthetic enjoyment.
So all in all, the album is hit and miss. It really works best as background music, for relaxation or while surfing the 'net. Of course, Sheila's best was yet to come on ABoneCroneDrone, but you can hear the seeds of that work being planted here on this somewhat experimental disc.

Chosen from a dozen recent recordings by contemporary Native American women artists, the music of Weaving the Strands is a banquet of spirited sustenance, reflecting the various passages, celebrations, and phases of feminine life. There are call and response and group chants, songs of meditation, worship, and joyous revelry as interpreted by women from tribes including Chippewa, Mestizo, Cherokee, and Muscogee. New listeners of Native American music may well be surprised by the marriage of anticipated flute, drum, and chant, and chant with plugged-in jazz guitar and country fiddle. Liner notes wisely provide information on the artists and the original recordings from whence their contributions come. Among the most well known in the group, Navajo songmaker Sharon Burch renders two of the most moving compositions, the reflective "I Walk Alone" and "Sacred Wind," featuring an extraordinary fiddle line twining round her expressively centered vocal. --Paige La GroneAlbum Description
"Weaving the Strands" is an exclusive music compilation by contemporary Native American women featuring some of the most talented Native American women artists performing today. This collection is dedicated to contemporary Native American women artists whose style, energy and spirit have added a beautiful dimension to this increasingly popular genre of music.Customer Reviews:
Constantly on my top 10 list.......2006-07-21
The music is fairly far reaching in its scope with the possible exception of all the vocalists being female. From some traditional songs with only a drum accompanyment to contemporary poetry atop music, this CD has burned itself into my own mind with its lyrical and intriguing music.
I'm not all about native American music. Still, this CD makes me want to hear more. Simply stated, it is excellent.
Fantastic!.......2004-03-19
Wonderfully ecletic collection........2003-01-30
The CD contains some excellent tracks and is a very good starting point from which albums of the artists featured here can then be purchased, for example Sharon Burch, Walela and Joanne Shenandoah.
However the album works well as a collection in its own right with a suitably varied colection of cntemporary North American women artists.
A CD that will bring joy to the ear from the sheer beauty of the music.
Nice for more poppy fans.......2002-11-14

Album Description
Enter the Worship Circle: First Circle is a unique praise and worship album. While most such recordings contain covers of the worship standards, this album features all original songs written by 100 Portraits and Waterdeep . What's more, the songs were recorded live and unplugged, and the instrumentation is composed solely of the jangle of acoustic guitars and the rhythms of hand drums. The result is a worship album for those dismayed or uninterested in the grandiose production and operatic vocals of typical praise and worship albums. Enter the Worship Circle :First Circle has a sound that is open and free-form, beautiful as a well-laid plan, but spontaneous as a sincere declaration of love.Customer Reviews:

Putting on the garment of His Presence.......2005-01-30
As such, it mirrors the work of the Psalmist. Anjani plays keyboards and guitar while bass and percussion round of the sound, which is mostly gentle and acoustic. The moving Kyrie Eleison is sung in Greek, whilst Yoshua is a blend of Hebrew and English and the gripping Ari Shemot contains Hebrew, Portuguese and English in a seemless blend of beauty.
The song Praise is an invocation of divine and angelic names like Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel and Michael, a gentle but powerful prayer. Another of my favourites is the comforting and reassuring Yeshurun and the exultant Blessing where her voice really soars on the most beautiful melody on the album. In style, this one in fact reminded me of the early work of folk legend Judy Collins.
The last two tracks are quite mystical and gnostic, YHVH being especially enchanting with awesome comforting and healing emanations. This song would be ideal for devotional activities like meditation and prayer. In this regard, interested listeners might want to investigate Jonathan Goldman's CD Holy Harmony: Healing Code Tuning Forks And Ancient YHSVH Chant.
Those who love Van Morrison in his more spiritual moments, or the classical work Tehillim (Psalms) by Steve Reich, will definitely love this graceful work of devotion. Amongst female artists, this spiritual undertone is also present in the work of vocalists like Emmylou Harris, Jennifer Warnes and Jane Siberry.
The CD case contains a glossary of Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Syriac (Aramaic) terms. The Sacred Names is a real find, and I thank Leonard Cohen who, by using Anjani's voice on his latest album, put me on her trail. Let all that breathe praise the Eternal.

Does Not Disappoint.......2003-12-31
The First installment blew me away (four stars). The Second was good and had it's moments but was redundant in places to the first (3 stars). The Third installment might actually be as good, if not better than the first, because it manages to match the first in emotional punch and lyrical beauty yet retains a freshness it shouldn't have as a sequel but does.
If this album doesn't make you get up and dance and sing along then you probably have died and NOT gone to heaven.

Product Description
What do you get when you mix a father who is a Rhythm and Blues guitar player, a house that always had something soulful with a groove playing in the background, and a mother who taught her only child how to sing harmonies, sitting around the dinner table? Miles Roy-Rogers (a.k.a. Fundamental Sound) was born June 24, 1977 in Ashland Oregon, and literally took his first breath, then began singing and creating wicked grooves! Family friend and neighbor Todd Barton (Resident Composer for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival) would synthesize sounds and test them on young Miles to see what kind of emotional reaction they d evoke; Scary, Fun, Sad, etc. This relationship with Todd developed into a full blown mentorship in High School, and continues to this day. Listening to the home grown samples on Mirror of Time leaves little doubt that Todd s synthesizers had a strong influence on Mile s work. Through Todd, Miles was introduced to Jeff Stolet (Philip H. Knight Professor of Music, and Director of Future Music Oregon) whose Future Music Oregon program associated with the Music Technology track of the University of Oregon School of Music, where Miles got his secondary education. While attending the U of O, Miles answered a flyer that a band put out looking for a Reggae Keyboardist. Band Leader Bibs Goff (More Time), a staple of the Oregon reggae community, took Miles under his wing. With the expert guidance of Bibs, Miles learned how to sit deep in the pocket of a reggae groove. Pushing the Bubble, Piano bang, and lead lines for More Time, Miles came into contact with many of Reggae Music s Forefathers. Opening for bands like the Wailers (Bob Marley s Band), Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Toots and the Maytals, The Abyssinians, Culture, Pato Banton, Third World, Eek-A-Mouse and many more, lead Miles to some crucial conversations and realizations. Miles would sit for hours listening to the opinions, philosophy and even theology of these Forefathers. These conversations heavily shaped the thoughts and compositions of Miles. Eventually Miles was hired to play keyboards and had the opportunity to go on a small tour of the Pacific Northwest as a part of the backing band for Apple Gabriel (Founding member of the Israel Vibration). Yearning to learn and discover more, after Graduating from the University of Oregon with a Degree in Music Technology and a Minor in Business, Miles realized he would need to relocate to a bigger city where he could advance his education and become more skilled in the studio. Miles headed to the heart of the music-meets-technology scene, Southern California. After just over a year in Los Angeles, he found himself working as a Studio Engineer for the University of Southern California (USC) Cinema-Sound Department. This was exactly the opportunity and education Miles was looking for, and the best part was... he was getting paid! For the next 3 years, Miles honed his craft of recording and mixing for both music and Film at USC. During his current stint in LA, Miles has played with a few local reggae bands: The Legalizers, Bonsai Tribe, and The Fire Burn Crew (Backing Shine Head). Miles spends most of his time in his home studio in North Hollywood, CA, that he lovingly refers to as The Asylum , the walls of which are covered with recycled down comforters. Miles told me Padded walls are one way to always keep me wondering whether I m crazy or not. Either way, let s hope wherever Miles Rogers of Fundamental Sound is locked up, his musical instruments and recording equipment are only an arm s length away!Customer Reviews:

Breath of FRESH air!.......2005-10-17
The best album I've heard in many a year..........2004-10-15
When I say Peter Mayer, people say "who"? Then I tell them that his day job is the lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffett's band, and he plays to his real muse in his own group. I tell them that his sound is like a cross between Dave Matthews and Paul Simon (and on this album there's some more poppy stuff that I swear could be on a Sugar Ray album if it was only a little poppier). The music runs the gamut from folk to jazz and dixieland to pop to world beat and gospel. And it all works. This album is that good. (And the song Faith in Angels was just broadcast on the MTV show "Made"). The title track is stirring, both lyrically and in the song structure.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Peter Mayer and his brother Jim (the bassist) and they are amazingly humble for the talent they possess. Don't let them be secrets, for this music needs to be heard. "Adult Album Alternative" radio should be all over this.
A Very Special Album.......2004-10-07
But that fan base is growing every day thanks to consistently great new releases, such as "Musicbox."
This album has all of the great attributes that make Peter such a great songwriter, musican and performer. The songs are lyrically deep and introspective, and feature likeable textures created by the world-class musicans that make up the Peter Mayer Group.
This includes artists like Roger Guth and Jim Mayer, accomplished musicians who share the stage with Peter in Jimmy Buffett's band. But it also includes appearances by legendary jazz drummer Dave Weckl, and the extremely accomplished and diverse songwriter, pianist and producer, Jay Oliver.
With all of this in mind, the album still has tremendous pop value, and Peter's virtuoso guitar playing and crystal-clear voice combine with these other incredible musicians to form 14 great songs.
