Customer Reviews:
Witty and Charming.......2000-08-15
This CD is fun and action packed as much as you could hope for in a CD. He uses quotes from many famous folk and classical songs and implements them into his own compositions with a bit of a twist. For example, in Classical rap, where he raps about being the best rapper in the world with terrific brass interludes between the verses. The orchestra plays a clip from Vivaldi's "Spring" and then he twists it into a record "wicky-wicky" to the same tune. He introduces every peice before it is played in a hilarious manner in which he talks about the peice and something else that was going on in the composers mind as he wrote the peice. Starting at the begining-
This is Professor Pete- Peter Schickele introduces himself as well as P.D.Q.
1712 Overture- A takeoff of the 1812 overture of course, with snatches of some famous folktunes thrown in here and there.
Oedipus Tex- A parady of the Greek Myth Oedipus Rex where he murders his father who is the King. Oedipus Tex lives a life like his brother but in Texas style.
The next tracks are more comedy than exactly music like the WTWP station giving options over the phone about how you would like to hear a certain peice of music. Cooking French... is a woman cooking a French gourmet meal but flubbing up the entire time.
What I have already said pretty much sums it up. The rest of the tracks are equally hilarious and as witty as all the others. If you buy this CD you will not regret it no matter what type of music you listen to.

perfect selection for commencement/ graduation.......2007-06-11
We were concerned after reading some other reviews that this version of Pomp and Circumstance wouldn't be the correct movement or the full length version. This selection has the song for graduation AND the extended length, so it gives plenty of time for processionals. If this is what you need, this is the CD to get.
Great Starting Point for Classical Music Novices.......2004-08-13
"Simply the Best Classicial Anthems" is exactly what the title indicates. This is a collection of what the CD says are "36 of the most powerful classics on Earth". My review of this CD comes from someone who is a Classical Music Novice. I'm familiar with some of the composers, musical styles, musical periods, and some of the terminology that is key to understanding Classical Music. By no means am I an expert. I have basically popped in this two CD collection into my player and have enjoyed the sounds it produces. If you are in the same category as I am or maybe just wanting to be introduced to Classical Music - this is going to be a very good CD to have in your collection. For the more seasoned Classical Music fan, this could be either enjoyable or overkill.
The CD contains 36 songs composed by the legends of Classical Music Composers from the past. The bulk of the works come from Composers in the the 19th and 20th century, but there are works from the Romantic and Classical eras of the late 18th and early 19th century (such as Beethoven and Mozart). In general you will find most of the major names of Composers you would expect to find - names such as Tchiakovsky, Handel, Verdi, Strauss, Elgar, and Bach are all there. The only major composer who I would have expected to see on this CD that I don't see is Frederic Chopin. The composers of the late 20th century are not included on this collection - so you won't see Leonard Bernstein or John Williams on this set. While these Composers are excellent, I do think style of the tracks on this collection pre-date their style.
The recordings themselves are done by the great Orchestras around the world. For the most part, European Orchestras were used to deliver the tracks. There are a few exceptions: The Chicago Symphony Orchestra delivers "The Ride of the Valkyries"; The Toronto Symphony Orchestra delivers "Dance of the Knights"; and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra delivers Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture". Some of the European Orchestras that are well known include: BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra, Choeur Philhamonique de Strasbourg, and more. Also included are performances by well known names in the Classical space such as Marie-Claire Alain (Bach's "Toccate and Fogue in D Minor" and Saint-Saens' "Symphony for Organ No 3"), Piero Toso (Vivaldi's "Allegro From Spring - Four Seasons"), and Placido Domingo appears on Puccini's "Nessun Dorma".
The 2 Disc collection contains a total of over 2 hours and 6 minutes of music. The selections that are included in the set will sound very familiar to you when you play them. You probably have both heard and seen the names of tracks such as: Oref's "O Fortuna"; Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man"; Beethoven's "First Movement from Symphony Number 5" and "Ode To Joy"; Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance", and Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture". Many of the other tracks will also sound familiar, but maybe not so much by name - such as Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries", Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathoustra"; Grieg's "Piano Concerto", and "Dies Irae" (versions included by Mozart and Verdi - you can compare the two and judge for yourself). As for the Discs themselves, I think most of the casual fans will like the selections on Disc Two better, but Disc One is still very good. On a sidebar, the Israel Philharmonic's version of "1812 Overture" is by far the best you will hear - particularly at the end, the booming drums create almost a 3 dimensional vision of fireworks being launched into the air.
There one big negative on this collection is some of the recording quality. The clarity of the recording is there, but some of the recording levels leave a lot to be desired. On some of the softer parts, it is barely audible without significantly turning up your volume. This is very evident on "O Fortuna" where you will hear almost dead silence during from the 30 second to 1:30 mark of the track unless you crank your volume up. Same with the first few seconds of Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathoustra" and Tchiakovsky's "1812 Overture". When the volume is cranked up you will hear them - but then the other sections will be way too loud. I'm surprised with modern technology that this couldn't be addressed better.
The liner notes are pretty thin. You do get the Composers, Performers/Orchestras, and recording dates. There isn't any more details than that and you won't learn anymore insight on the tracks than this information. Despite some of the shortcomings of the liner notes and recording volume, I still think this is an excellent place to start and do recommend this CD if you are a novice to Classical Music and are looking for a great place to start listening to what the Classics have to offer.
**An Exquisite Album**.......2004-02-21
Simply The Best Classical Anthems
Simply The Best Classical Anthems is a compilation album of `36 of the most powerful Anthems on Earth'. But, it is also said to be something else. It is said to be a gateway. A gateway to another world. A world where our imagination can run free without being shackled down by any borders or boundaries or rules or limits. A world that we have all seen or perhaps more accurately have all heard of but for many of us a world that we have never dared to enter. Never dared to enter because of fear. The fear of being ostracised and shunned by our community.
THE MYTH
`Classical Music!', I can hear some of you cry. `That isn't another world. That's just music for the upperclass, the high-brow, and the pompous.' Surprisingly, I too felt this way for a long time until I accepted the invitation made to me by Simply The Best Classical Anthems. I always felt that Classical Music was nice to listen to as background music for a Levis ad or a Car ad but I would consider people strange if they chose to hear it on its own. However, after having listened to this album I realised how wrong I was in my assumptions.
THE TRUTH
Music as with all forms of amusement helps to take you away from where you are now. It helps to relax you when you are stressed with anger; it helps to give you strength when you are vulnerable; it helps to keep your spirits up when you have faced tragedy or loss. It helps. And, for me the type of music that best conjures up the most passionate emotions (love, hate, courage and anger) at our most testing times is Classical Music.
How? I don't know.
Why? I don't know.
I can only promise you that in my experience it does.
THE CHEST
The album, in visual terms, is very difficult to overlook amongst the plethora of records that may surround it. This is because the album has a very distinct purple sleeve cover. Not any kind of purple mind you but the Cadbury's kind of purple. The kind of purple that carries with it an invitation. An invitation that if accepted promises you a treasure inside.
And since, I have always enjoyed the treasure within the purple Cadbury's Dairy Milk wrapper, I asked myself why would an album carrying the same invitation promise to be anything different? Thus, I parted with my tuppence worth and went back home to open this purple chest of promised treasures.
THE PROMISED TREASURE
As you may have guessed, the contents of the album are somewhat different to the contents of a Cadbury's bar. When I opened the album, I was presented with two compact discs. At first glance, there did not seem to be anything special about them. They were just your average, everyday, run of the mill compact discs. To tell you the truth, I was a bit disappointed because I suppose I had hoped for something more.
However, looks can be deceptive. (Afterall, a Cadbury's Dairy Milk does not seem very appetising until you taste it!) And, also come November each year, I am always bemused and surprised at how the shabby contents of a cardboard box can both light up the sky and light up the faces of the neighbourhood. Thus, I pushed aside my assumptions and I ignited the discs (not literally of course, I just pressed the play button on the CD player). And, I let the fireworks begin.
THE KEY
From the very beginning, you will feel like you have unlocked the doorway to something special. And, after a full two hours of listening to both discs, you will feel like you have been taken out of this world and transported to another. Welcome to the world of Classical Music.
GUIDANCE
In the beginning, continue to listen to both discs in one go (i.e. one after the other). After a while, you will know which tracks you enjoy listening to the most. For those tracks you enjoyed the most make a promise to yourself that you will listen to the whole of the piece from which that track came from.
Good Luck on your quest if you choose to accept it.
Ride amongst the Valkyries, listen to the Flight of the Bumblebees, and use The Planets to keep you on the path.
I am not a good reviewer because as with all of my reviews I refuse to comment too much about what is inside the product but rather more about what effect the product has had on me. (Me, me, me. Vain & Egotistic, I know, so my friends and family keep telling me). But, I just want to cause a raucous about the product, enough not to spoil but enough of a raucous to let you experience it for yourself.
So my final words are:
Simply The Best Classical Anthems is an invitation. An invitation to the world of classical music. A world where you can begin a never-ending quest of curiosity. A curiosity that will always be rewarded with fulfilment.
Do you accept such an invitation?
Hope you found this review helpful.
Samples.......2003-11-23
The samples are too short and the quality leaves a lot to be desired. Having said that the choices are wonderful and the price is great. If you're looking for a overview of the best of classical music then this is for you. However if it's quality you're looking for then spent the extra money and look at other choices.
Great Sampler!.......2002-03-20
This is a good sampler, since it covers what you would want in a classical music CD. Looking at the tracks, it has the classic hits, such as "Ride of the Valkyries," "Toccata and Fugue," "Fanfare for the Common Man," "'Jupiter' from `The Planets,'" "Eine Klein Nachtmusik," and "Hallelujah Chorus."
There are also some new pieces that I have fallen in love with, such as "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra," "'Promenade' from Pictures at an Exhibition." The compilers did an interesting double take by including both Verdi's and Mozart's "Dies Ire." I'm not sure which is better.
This music is good for the brain and good for the soul. There is a power and passion that the blaring and glaring music that makes up most of the FM band. I'm reminded of the religious man who said that there is no music in hell. Probably because they wouldn't appreciate it there.
These CDs has a good transfer from the analogue tapes; there is no hiss or fuzziness. The packaging hearkens back to 2001: A Space Odyssey, with the black monolith. And appropriately, "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is the opening track on Disk 2.

A musical triumph in spite of distracting elements.......2001-12-07
Lorrie is an artist of considerable talent and originality, and that talent shines brightly on "Simply Grand", particularly with those songs of her own composition. But why has she chosen to include several songs that so obviously detract from an otherwise beautifully flowing collection? I'm sure that her daughter is a wonderful little girl, but to hear her vocalizing on "Castle on a Cloud" strikes a particularly jarring chord. This is something that belongs in a school recital or played at Line family gatherings, not showcased on an album that Ms. Line herself describes as "...doing what I do best, just playing by myself." And in that regard, why did she also include a horn accompanist on "The Prayer"? It's beautifully executed, but it does tend to upset the flow. Also included are covers of the well-known pop tunes, "Norwegian Wood", and "Moonshadow". For anyone old enough to remember these two songs in their pop heyday, their inclusion here, while nicely executed, cannot help but wrench one's awareness from that serene place where her best music has the capability of sending it. It's much the same problem with "Brahms' Lullaby". There are just certain classical tunes ("The William Tell Overture", for example) that over the years have been so thoroughly steeped in the popular consciousness, that one cannot help but hear them in that context, regardless of the musical setting. Despite these distractions "Simply Grand" makes a very worthy addition to your musical library, if you love beautiful and inspiring piano music. The CD includes an album of pictures (viewable with your computer's CD-ROM drive) spotlighting Lorrie's obvious preoccupation with her physical appearance. Also included is a link to her website, which I have yet to visit. All things considered, a very good album. There are fifteen songs in all, so you can afford to bypass the clinkers and enjoy the remaining gems of Lorrie's talent.
Lorie Line Is the Best.......2000-04-05
This CD is absolutely the most beautiful of all romantic and soft music. Played with grace and simplicity, Lori Line makes it a feast for the ears! Great for weddings, travel, leisure, or relaxing...You will not be disappointed.
simply grand.......2000-03-10
I have Never written to an artist, that has moved me so much by their music. I have had the honor to hear Mrs.Line perform numerous times, the last few times being in Toledo,Ohio. The album(Cd) to be politically correct, is the finest work she has done to this point. I hope and pray you will continue to spread your talent and heart felt music many years to come. Your faithful fan. Carl D.Ogden Panama City Beach Florida, Please have a concert down here. Again, Thank you for your music.
wonderfully soothing for the soul.......1999-09-17
I loved this CD. As usual Lorie Line's music has touched a part of my heart. Castle on a Cloud is adorable. I can't wait for the next lorie Line CD!!

Customer Reviews:
Melodic, unbelievable, incredible and fantasticv r234234r.......2005-03-18
Fantastic truly fantastic and unbelievable. incredible well it is melodic and pretty, the pianist sticks to the melodies, so there is much beauty to be found, he plays pop and jazz tunes the way CLASSICAL pianist plays Beetoven exactly as the composer wanted it played, no swinging or personal style at all, sounds like a piano roll actually. Great cd, rally great, i love it, love it , love it much too much woooo-hoooo a great cd, really this man has a talent and a gift to play pretty tunes in a sweet and elegant style like Liberace was to the 50's this guy is to the 90's, brilliant cd.....
Simply The Best Is Yet To Come! ! ! !.......2004-07-17
All I Ask of You, Memory, You Go To My Head, Somewhere, Wave....These great tunes have been beautifully arranged for solo piano with the one and only Gary Clark style... Soft, Relaxing, Fluid and Consistant would be one way to discribe this lovely piano solo music...
The recently voted song of the century..."Over The Rainbow", has never sounded better when in the hands of Clark..the added touch of "When You Wish Upon A Star" is just lovely..
My honey and I love his version of My Romance.. Romantic .. would be another good discription of the Clark sound..
The music from Sunset Boulevard is also quite dramatic...
I would recommend this piano cd to lovers of good music...
If you enjoy a pianist with a great touch and good taste in material this is for you... Enjoy!
Mind-boggling - truly mind-boggling.......2004-07-16
"Beautiful?" "Beautiful?" It truly boggles my mind that anyone could lavish such encomiums on such a forgettable album. If you're an aging Kenny G fan with little use for any sort of invention or cleverness from your pianists, then I guess you could do worse. If you're looking to be challenged, entertained, or brought to any sort of emotional fulfillment, however, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere.
In reality... the music is NOT so beautiful.......2004-05-31
This cd really isn't as great as all the reviewers rave on about. For one thing the melody lines Clark plays are dull, and uninteresting, and they may be "beautiful", but a sort of centerfold beauty, might be nice to look at, but there's nothing going on inside(no iner beauty). Very superficial, easy listening music, at best. Life is too short to waste 45 minutes of it listening to something so mundane...
Frumpy-Old-Spinster Is Sorry!!.......2004-05-29
HI Clark fans,, I am the person who just wrote the review below and the review above under the names of Setzer-Fan and Frumpy Old Spinster.. Also the other not nice reviews were posted by me as well .I just wanted to apologize and the chance to explain..
I happen to suffer with a very low self-esteem problem, and when I forget to take my meds, my brain goes wacko and I come here to amazon to post negative reviews.. I know nothing really of Clark and his music but I cant resist making harsh comments. If you dont believe me, just check all of my reviews posted. My poor spelling, typing and improper sentence structure will all check out.. Natalie Cole and Toni Teninelle are also other artists that I have reviewed harshly.
Please forgive me, as today I did take my meds and replayed this Lovely CD.. I heard the most magnificent music !.. Those meds really do the trick..
I know all you Clark fans will forgive me as your reviews demonstrate the kind and speical people you all are.
Again , I am So Sorry and will try my hardest to not post anymore negative reviews... Thank You and enjoy this beautiful music.

Better then aromatherepy???.......2004-05-31
I don't know abaout that I love my aromatherepy, of course I only take a bubble bath with scented candles while listening to Enya, after I've gone to see my psychic advisor and looked onto my chrystal ball. Voodoo hooddooo mumbo jumbo....
Actually that was all just a joke, aromatherepy is for loosers and so is this music...
Solo Piano At Its Finest!!.......2004-05-29
Hi Clark fans, I am Frumpy-Old-Spinster who just wrote the negative review below.. I am also the reviewers known as ,Playboy66, drugged Up Fool ,One leg Wally ,Luis Francisco and Pat Kawoski , I just wanted the chance to apologize to the fans, and to Clark himself for the insults and harsh comments I have made here on this site.. My problem is primarily with my self-esteem. When I dont take my meds, my brain wants to do negative things, for example I come to amazon and I post other negative reviews on wonderful artists such as : Natalie Cole, Toni Teneille and the list goes on.. you can check the dates and my poor writing skills and inproper spelling and typing.. it all checks out!
No genuine Clark fan would have the nature about them to write the hurtful and common remarks that I have made here. Please ignore the last 5 reviews I have posted. Again,, I am so sorry,
I did however take my meds today and replayed Clarks Simply Grand 2 CD. Well, after the chemicals did there job on my brain,I heard the most beautiful piano music you could ever imagine.. I play it over and over.....
If you enjoy solo piano with heartfelt arrangements and some very emotional performances you will love this Cd.. Thank you and once again I am so sorry.
An emberessment..........2004-05-28
Just think of the poor elephant to was killed for hsi tusks to make this awfukl cheesy listening cd. Just bloew average easy listening piano, with no uniqueness, and really it's not all that beautiflul, but as they say beauty is in the eyes of teh beholder, so listen and judge for yourself, but to me it's just boring, uninteresting music, and tehre are at least a couple hundred better pianists out there, so why on earth bother with thsi drek.
Awesome bebop straight ahead jazz session.......2004-05-21
This is one of teh most interesting and improvised and creative jazz cd's ever, a jazz monument, it's beautiful, beautiful, a hundred times beautiful, actually I'm only fooling you, there is no jazz content here, this is plain but beautiful piano music, that simply is beautiful ,not beautiful in teh way you look at Jayne Mansfield or Nicole kdman, but beauftiful the way you loo kat your grandmother, or the dear old lady that walks with the kane down the street. just beautiful liek aromatherepy
BETTER than anything in the whoel wide world!!!!!.......2004-05-10
No in the entire UNIVERSE!!! No since the beginnign of time this music is BEAUTIFUL,(...)(...) and elegant(...). It is the best. I love thsi pianist because he plays the notes of the songs as they were written, like the composers would like it. Not many painists can sacrifice thier artistsic needs and jsut paly the melodies, and Clark is one of those artists who has sacrificed any style of hsi own, for the style that the compsers wanted a piansit to play. Great beautidul melodic music as it was meamnt to be ehard. Thankfully Clark doesn't go "creative" and do anythign spontaniosu like evry other piansist, trying to stamp thier identity on every song, Gary has no unique identity to stamp on any songs, he palsy the MELODY, and that is beautiful, and hsi technical skills are SUPERB. Buy thsi if yuo like melodic, music taht DOESN"t EVER SWING, but who needs swing and rhythm when you've got BEAUTIFUL MELODY!

Album Description
BS2000 originally began as a bi-coastal beat swap between founding members Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys and Amery' Awol' Smith. Their limited edition, vinyl only debut became a DJ favorite with such notables as, Alec Empire, Dan the Automator and Joe the Doorman. Their new effort 'Simply Mortified' expands their techniques and completely kicks up the sound, bringing lo-fi, new school, a go-go, Farfisa-Swing for the new millennium. This is the 'Popcorn' era of James Brown with a beat you can dance to. Digi-pack. 2000 release.
Customer Reviews:
Dig the Sound of Today.......2002-09-01
BS 2000 is an off-shoot of the Beastie Boys, featuring the lo-fi noodlings of Ad-Rock and Amery Smith. Their sound consists mostly of Casio keyboards - with or without lyrics. The 20 songs last a total of roughly 45 minutes, so if you don't like one song, it'll be over soon! Some of the songs sound like early Beastie hard core, especially SICK FOR A REASON, and will likely appeal to people who like their CD AGLIO E OLIO. SCRAPPY sounds quite a bit like the Beasties' more recent work. But I'd say that BS 2000's music is more danceable than much of what the Beasties do. Overall, this CD is fun and different - all that you can expect from a side project. If you don't like it, then you can ask yourself, "Who died and left you Mr. Critic?" Sadly, this is one of the last CD's issued by the now-defunct Beastie label - Grand Royal. Try to get this one while it's still in print!!!!
Makes me want to do the Side to Side.......2001-12-08
Aw, snap! Lo-fo, tinny, corny Casio beat-box sound, and one hell of a lot of fun. The first time I put this disc on I knew I was in for an audio treat, and now I can't stop spinning the damn thing.
No BS, This is Some Lo-Fi Sh!t!.......2001-05-22
BS 2000 is Adam Horovitz doing what he does best, entertaining. AD Rock hooked up the old school Casio's for this set and the grooves are down right infectious. The song lengths range anywhere from 1:30 to 3:00 and just bump. The music is fun and a nice change of pace from the most talented and original BBoy of them all. Simply Mortified is completely uncommercial and has received no publicity, yet I have a feeling that this "side project" might be the next big thing.
Yeah I like BS!.......2001-05-10
Casio keyboards with phat beats... what more can ya ask for? Fun lovin' and political, BS 2000 know how to have a good time. You'll be tappin' yer feet along with da beat. Get up and do the "Side to Side", the dance craze that's sweepin' the nation! Buy this CD!
Ladies and gentlemen introducing BS2000.......2001-04-14

These songs make me want to do "the side to side". So if your "sick for a reason" this album will make you feel "better better", "no matter what shape (your stomach is in)".
