Editorial Reviews
Pure sounds of the lake Called Gitchee Gummi.
Track One- Park Point
It is cold and overcast. Call it November. The kind of day that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald. With 20 to 40 MPH winds, large waves pound the sandy beach on park point.
It is a day to revel. To feel yourself pressing against the wind. To picture the mass of air reaching you form Canada. To understand how many places the wind has seen. To know that now, it is touching the lake, building the surf, creating the sound.
The waves are visual of something we cannot see. Like tracks on newly fallen snow that let you know something was there. Today, the tracks are on the water. Large tracks. Whitecaps, ridges and valleys!
It is a time to respect the power of the earth.
Track Two- Fog Over Brighton Beach
Tiny droplets of water fill the air. A sullen fog saturates the atmosphere. Everything is damp. then a gust of wind drives the waves into the rocks of Brighton Beach and the spray hits your face.
You stand against the wind, and an adventurous spirit takes hold as the lake relentlessly rises and falls out to the mist. You can hear the surf retreat from the shore and seconds laterattack with a crashlike the distant sound of thunder.
The fog surrounds you, willing you to leave. It is disorienting. But you know where you are resting on the edge of the largest fresh water lake in the world, listening to water that has traveled millions of miles.
And you realize how much you can see through hearing.
Track Three- Summer at Stony Point
This is a day often dreamed of during the bitter cold months of winter. It is sunny and warm. The air is calm and hushed as the rhythmic waves gently caress the rocks of Stony Point.
Realizing you are relaxed and sleepy, you spy a place on which to lie--- if only for a moment. The northern and is inviting. The slow repetitious waves, hypnotic. These are the sounds of a daydream.
A child is laughing in the distance. A gull calls form the sky. Suddenly your eyes open. Slowly you raise your head and notice time has slipped away. And in the stillness, youre grateful if only for a moment - for the escape.
Yes, you are deserving of rhythm and waves on this summer day.
