For Eric Carmen fans only.......2007-08-01

After producing four stellar albums of rockin' power pop with the Raspberries, Eric Carmen decided to go solo in 1975, releasing the album ERIC CARMEN. Easily his best work, it contained three top 40 hits, but also contained some warning signs of things to come. The long, middle section of "All By Myself" and the show tune-esque "Great Expectations" saw Carmen straying farther away from his rock n' roll past and closer to the middle of the road.

The two albums on this CD were relased in 1977 and 1978 as his second and third solo records. BOATS AGAINST THE CURRENT leans heavy on the ballads, but is also a good showcase of Eric's fine piano playing. Burton Cummings of the Guess Who actually guests on a few tracks, most prominently "Marathon Man." Eric plays a variety of instruments, including drums on at least one track. The lone rocker, "Take it Or Leave It" is decent, but sounds oddly out of place amongst all the mellower material.

Although CHANGE OF HEART does contain a couple of ballads, it's much more of an upbeat record. The production is dated, but it was 1978, so certain songs have a disco feel, especially his cover of the Four Tops' "Baby I Need Your Lovin". "End of the World" and "Haven't We Come a Long Way" are good album cuts. Strangely, several of the tracks were actually leftover from the BOATS sessions, including one of the best songs on the record, "Someday" which was originally the b-side of "She Did It" from BOATS.

If you're a big fan of Carmen's work, it will be great to finally get these songs on CD. But, if you're just a casual fan, seek out ERIC CARMEN THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION, which gives an excellent overview of his career, including early cuts from the Raspberries and Eric's later hit from Dirty Dancing.

American Beat lets keep them coming!!.......2007-07-23

It is really great to get these two Eric Carmen releases on a single cd. I have always been a big fan of Eric Carmen. There are a few Greatest hits cd releases available but his solo stuff is very rare. There are a couple of hits here but the other songs are great as well. I hope American Beat will continue to dig into the vaults for more of Eric's solo work.

Eric's 2nd and 3rd Solo Effort's Released.......2007-07-20

If you were an Eric Carmen fan, you probably enjoyed his 1977 lp, "Boats Against the Current", and his 1978 release, "Change of Heart". Both are decent albums but certainly not up to the standard of his 1976 lp, "ERIC CARMEN", featuring the classic hits, "All By Myself" and "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again". The medium hit, "Sunrise" was also on that album.
A new CD company to me, AMERICAN BEAT, has released Eric's second and third albums on one disc. Both these albums had one respectable hit (each). "SHE DID IT" from "Boats" and "CHANGE OF HEART" from the Same titled album. "Boats Against the Current" was a tiny hit around the end of 1977.
To my knowledge, these albums have not been released before in the U.S. (I know you could buy expensive Japanese imports years ago, but at 35 minutes per lp, that was robbery!) The CD quality is decent, but not extraordinary.
The music is pleasant but not Eric's best. However, for the price and the scarcity of these records, I'd recommend this purchase if you are a fan of Carmen or even a seventies easy-listening fan. If you are satisfied with the big hits, I'd recommend one of Eric's compilations. He had one out on ARISTA five or six years ago which even included several of his hits with the Raspberries. That compilation is excellent!! The best songs from this two-fer CD are on the best of compilation. I give this a four star rating for the price and the availability of two long since forgotten albums of the late 70's. I hope to see some more rare re-issues!!!

Great for yoga and/or meditation. The only thing I'd change is the talking on the last track--I find it's distracting. Otherwise, I'd rate it five stars. My classes love it.

There's too much caterwauling in this one. Not for meditation, maybe as a quiet background for ambience, I dunno. It didn't quite inspire any transcendental experiences for me.

Inaccurate, but a good listen.......2005-11-08

I like this album, it is soothing and meditative. The music is compelling and the vocals are pleasant. Unfortunately, I can't give it a higher rating, because some of the Sanskrit words are incorrectly pronounced. I'm not trying to be picky, but you'd think that Deborah who's written a book on healing music would know how to pronounce the lyrics of her songs. With that in mind, the album is quite good.

The album is very enjoyable to listen to. If you like a meditative type of music. Several songs are chants (or mantras) that have been put to music. I liked this one very much.

I learned to pronounce Divine names I read in spiritual books,
but never heard chanted before, from this CD.
As a woman, following the voice of a women guide
was easier for me to echo, then male chants.
It is the perfect CD to play and chant along while ringing
my own crystal bowls and sets a relaxing, prayerful mood
before going to sleep, for me.

Top-Notch Bluegrass Music!.......2006-02-25

You read the label and see that this group is comprised of members of the U.S. Navy Band. Well, don't be fooled by any pre-conceived notions - this is as good a bluegrass ensemble as you will ever hear. Lead singer Wayne Taylor has a great voice and a dynamic delivery that pulls you right into the songs. And the banjo player, Keith Arneson is a virtuouso picker with at least six fingers on his right hand! A fantastic group and a totally enjoyable experience - highly recommended.

One of the best bluegrass lead singers ever. great CD. I've seen them live at Darrington,WA several times they put on a great show and are allways a crowd favorite.

A real beaut of an album.......2002-04-14

This bluegrass album is a beaut! The US Navy's Country Current Bluegrass Quartet features some very accomplished musicians that really know how to pick and sing. This album has a nice variety of nicely arranged material that showcases this wonderful 4-piece. Total Time runs 41.36. Some rather standard songs are covered like Ain't Nobody Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone, The Old Home Place, Big Spike Hammer, Good Woman's Love, and The Prisoner's Song. On the other hand, some originals by guitarist/vocalist Wayne Taylor also caught my ear: Heart of Caroline, and Every Time it Snows. Taylor was recently nominated as Best Male Vocalist of the Year by the IBMA. His song, "Heart of Caroline," is also receiving good airplay and acclaim around the country. Banjo-player Keith Arneson offers two hard-driving original numbers with Douglas the Dog, and Sugarland Run. Fiddle and mandolin are handled well by Patrick White, and the upright bass is played by Joseph Wheatley or Michael Nicholson. Besides straight ahead bluegrass, the Country Current also has a penchant and ability to present folk-flavored songs like Steve Spurgin's A Walk in the Irish Rain, and Tom Paxton's Last Thing on my Mind. If I had one criticism, it would be that "song-carrier" Bill Clifton might not fully appreciate their version of "Little Whitewashed Chimney" that changes some words and leaves out the second verse of this beautiful song. Growing up a "Navy brat" myself, I am overjoyed at the US Navy's commitment to supporting country and bluegrass music in their organization. In the future, I'd like to see their bluegrass quartet become a full quintet (or sextet), and I hope that they'll soon produce an album of all original material.

These guys rock, if you can use that term to describe bluegrass music. Their instrumentals really cook, and their lead singer, Senior Chief Musician Wayne C. Taylor, has a great voice. If you can catch them live at a bluegrass festival,don't be fooled by the uniforms...get in a seat and listen to them!

Moving.......2007-05-03

This particular piece from Patrick is unique and may be his finest work yet, depending on how you feel it. It grew on me and found more of its tracks moving till I found a DVD that changed all. Yes, David Fortney has a DVD of his Cinematography called "Timeless" featuring nature at its true beauty and the music of Patrick on all tracks. Once you experience this, you will agree that this may be his finest. You will see for yourself and be moved as I was.

Impeccable.......2007-01-03

Is this the finest album I've ever heard ...

I know it's a big call, but the answer may be Yes. I am deeply moved by Patrick O'Hearn's music and love all his albums without exception. But I think this is probably the best of the lot.

The lead track "A Lovely Place to Be" may just be my favorite piece of music ever written. It is followed by another gem in the slowly hypnotic title track. Even though this lasts a healthy 6 minutes or so, I wish it was twice as long. Another magical piece for me is "Traveler's Rest" which is a great way to finish a superb album. All the music in between is of a very high standard, maintaining an atmospheric ambience that soothes the soul in gentle rhythms.

For those who aren't aware, the boy on the front cover is Patrick O'Hearn's son in a photo taken some years before the album's release. (I hope he doesn't mind me saying that.)

I cannot speak highly enough of this album. It has so much feeling that it lifts the spirit to other places. Thanks Patrick for a magnificent album.

This is music that goes straight to the heart.

St. Patrick's most cohesive and strongest set of songs to date! .......2006-02-23

I remember the excitement when I browsed on the internet back in the opening days of 2001 when I learned of a then new album entitled "So Flows The Current" by my favorite New Age Meistro Patrick O'Hearn especially after years of almost total silence. I ran full force to the Barnes & Noble music store to buy it on July 28, 2001 and let me tell you, this album was totally WORTH THE LONG WAIT! I can't say I felt that way when I first listened to it the day I bought it but as it sunk in over time, I came to the conclusion that this was a total rebirth of O'Hearn's music legacy and the start of a new era and out of them, I would actually say that it is his best album to date!

Like "Metaphor" from five years before, "So Flows The Current" has a far more tribal, ethnic quality to it's sound versus his more familiar works from the Private Music era and it even is different from even the Deep Cave albums "Trust" and "Metaphor" since SFTC combines the best of both worlds on some of the tracks and even has it's own original style with more guitars both acoustic and electric done to epic effects throughout the tracks most notably on "Panning The Sands", "Beyond This Moment", and especially "Northwest Passage", the latter of which is perhaps the most un-O'Hearn-like track that I've ever heard, even when stacked against the experimental "Slow Time". I've read a lot of critical reviews praising this album and the one that said that this is his `most consistent albums' is absolutely right. SFTC actually is in my opinion anyway his most consistent set of works and flows perfectly from the somber opening minor note of "Lovely Place" to the peaceful joyful major notes of "Traveler's Rest".

Really boring and lifeless.......2006-02-13

I was looking forward to listening to this CD because I really enjoy Patrick's work, and was let down big-time. I thought this CD was boring and lifeless - I liked only one track. And almost all of the tracks featured other instruments and hardly any keyboard. Huh?

If you like Patrick O'Hearn, listen to Beautiful World and some of his other CDs to get the real feel of his magic. Too bad.

his best.......2005-08-17

This is absolutely the best record Patrick has ever done. I've been a fan now since around the time Indigo came out (which was his best until this one). It is a little more mellow than some of his previous efforts, but every track is very carefully worked out and full of rich detail. There are some moments on trust and Metaphor where it sounds like he's on auto pilot- never anywhere on this record.

The strong presence of the acoustic instruments compliments what he's doing so well.

Four or five people I've played this for, went out and got their own copies immediately. That's unusual.

I don't know what else to say. He's never been better, and I have a feeling he'll never top this one. While I like Beautiful World, it doesn't come close to the level of aching beauty on this record.

Holman -- Fresh and Swinging.......2007-01-27

Not only is this CD Bill Holman live, it could have been entitled "Fresh and Swinging." Holman, from his compositions and arrangements with the Kenton and Herman bands in the 1950s, has evolved himself as THE MAN who captures the essence of a big band. Lush, fresh and swinging, at every turn. Individual tunes aside, the whole performance is not "then" but "now." Any big band fan will more than enjoy this CD more than once.

Clever and fun as always.......2006-11-11

Yet again Holman comes through with a unique set of compositions and arrangements that are fresh, but have his stamp right on them. My three favorites are Donna Lee, Blue Daniel and Press One. I went so far as to order the arrangements from his publisher Sierra Music to study the scores.

Donna Lee has Mr. Holman's classic counterpoint and motifs that seem to flow right from the bebop melody itself. And he makes the melody unique with the subtlest of touches in doubling it at odd intervals off and on. And the ending leaves the listener saying 'Wow, what just happened?!'

In Blue Daniel, Holman's ability to keep the integrity of a song while making it his own shines forth. The counterlines and development are simple and subtle, just like the tune itself. From the rim shot kicking off the immediate statement of the melody, to the straight forward ending (with an added major seven on the last note to add that Holman 'quirk') this tune just flows.

Press One seems to me to capture the humor and joy in Homan's music that I absolutely love. It invokes the mechanical impersonal nature of automated call service from the dialing of the touch tones to the swaying lounge music you hear when you're put on hold. Just a great Holman original.

The solo performances are superb as they always are from his band. One of my favorites aspects of this cd is that you get Holman himself giving intros to each of the numbers.

It's a must for any jazz fan.

The Bill Holman Band Live.......2006-08-01

This Band is one of the best I have heard of late! I remember Bill Holman working in the 90's with the WDR Big Band (the Radio Big Band of Cologne/Germany). Musicians and audience were raving about his scores.
My favorite is 'Donna Lee', but also 'Zoot 'n' Al' sure is a great tune. Altogether a must CD with great players and music.
Bill Holman did an album with another German Big Band, the SWR Big Band/Germany in 2001: 'Jazz In Concert (Live)'.

Youth is without question...........2006-04-27

...wasted on the young. I love this Bill Holman guy. I've been listening to him for many years, like 50, without even knowing who he was. He's the guy behind the best of all big band arrangements. He's like the Duke. Now that I'm getting up there too it's hard to express how fortunate my indebtedness is to such a marvelous and great talent. Hey I've been saving this up so give me a little room to praise the best of the best. No pandering here, I don't even know him but I got his picture on the cd cover and he looks like an old fart like me. Thanks Bill. The album is tight, fit and smart with virtuoso talent. Exciting charts from Bill Holman -- all original, and done with the brilliance of his band, made up of the best jazz/studio musicians in southern California. The charts are near impossible to just read... like many of the big band arrangements by Gil Evans for Miles Davis. Holman and Evans are thousands of miles ahead of any other big band writers.

Breathtaking! .......2007-03-24

I only found out about Current 93 a few months ago, so I'm still learning about David Tibet and his amazing music. Being on this never-ending quest to find out about differant music, I've recently had been interested in industrial music from the 1970's and early 1980's. I saw Ministry play live last year and that's kinda what started me thinking of this genre of music. So, I started checking out bands that I had heard of, but never really heard actual music by, such as Throbbing Gristle, Skinny Puppy, and Einstürzende Neubauten. Through looking up info on these bands, one band's name kept popping up as being related to these bands, Current 93. I had never even heard of this band before. So, I started looking up info and loved what I read and heard. This lead to me buying my first Current 93 CD, "Black Ships Ate the Sky". My first impression of it was, "What in the world...." But, that was the reaction I was hoping to have to it, so this wasn't a bad thing at all. About two weeks after buying it, I had listened to it a few times and it was really starting to grow on me. Then, I ended up taking a car trip that lasted nearly 10 hours each way. Long story short, the trip turned out to be a disaster, so on the way home, I was driving through a very lonely, desolate, out-of-the-way area and decided that "Black Ships..." would be the perfect music for the way I felt and the things that were around me. The songs and amazing lyrics began to make perfect sense to me. I felt as though I was at the end of the world and this CD was the perfect soundtrack. Beyond the fact that the lyrics are so well-written, with their apocalyptic themes, the music itself is absolutly beautiful. David Tibet's way of sorta talking through the lyrics fits the emotions and the feelings the beautiful music evoke. The sound of the guitar on such songs as "Sunset", "Then Kill Ceaser" and "Bind Your Tortoise Mouth" is nothing short of amazing. The thing that hits me the hardest about this album though is the opening track, "Idumæa", featuring Marc Almond on vocals. When I read his name on the CD, my first thought was, "The 'Tainted Love' guy?" On this track though, you'll forget that he ever even sang that because he gives, in my opinion, one of the best vocal performances I've ever heard!

I cannot recommend this CD enough. It is truly a work of art. It may take a few listens to get used to and figure out what's going on. But, you have to listen to it with an open mind and an open heart. Once you do, get ready to be taken on the ride of your life! Easily one of the best CDs I've bought in a very long time...and coming from someone that works with music and is around it all the time, that's saying quite a lot, because I tend to have a bit of a "Been there, heard that before" additude towards most music. "Black Ships Ate the Sky" is just an amazing and breathtaking album!

An Amazing Album!.......2007-02-08

Black Ships Ate the Sky is the latest release from Current 93 (David Tibet, Michael Cashmore, Steven Stapleton, and Others). Black Ships Ate the Sky Is an amazing collection of songs featuring several guest performances by such names as Marc Almond, Bonnie Prince Billy, Baby Dee, Antony, Clodagh Simonds, Pantaleimon, Shirley Collins, Cosey Fanni Tutti, and Ben Chasney. This is a great album with many great songs. I cannot stop listening to "Bind Your Tortoise Mouth".

Finally, Black Ships arrive.........2006-07-05

Current 93 seem to be getting quite a bit of attention lately with this new album (and with good reason too!).
I`m not sure if this is because of some of the guest`s that feature on the album.. anyway, it`s been sooo many year`s since a brand new Current 93 album has been released, and this is essential of course.

the finnished idea.......2006-06-12

In my own expierience it has always seemed that current 93 although twenty years in the running was an unfinnished work. A progressive and illusive band in the depths of a seeming adolescence with momentary hints of utter brilliance and ignobled truths but whether your a hardcore fan or not it is commonly excepted that current 93 tends to be a hit and miss band. Well 24 years later we have seen david tibets work much like that in porportion to the growth of a human being, come fully fleshed into adult hood. This is not as to say that current 93 was not already majestic and to be respected but this is definately his/ their fullest work. It reaches heights that no other album on the face of the planet has reached in terms of it's timelessness. It sounds orphaned to any paticular time setting. It rests in the arms of a "Hallucinatory Partipassionist Christ" and only emenates a warmth that lies with in a secret place within us all. OUr faith in that which is beyond us, what ever it maybe. It lies with in our subconscious acknowledgement and solice in the fleeting. The arms of death and the hands we hold between them.

in the running to be the greatest Current 93 record.......2006-06-05

Current 93's David Tibet is an apocalyptic poet in the truest definition, as his work hinges upon his obsessive desire to transcribe and translate the revelations, visions, nightmares, and dreams that have come to him over the past two decades. The apocalyptic genres of art have come to define the possibilities of how the world as we know it might come to an end (e.g. astrophysical disasters, nuclear war, zombies, fire-ants, etc.); however, in the earliest manifestations of apocalyptic art, it was simply the chronicling of revelations given from the heavens to man below. Throughout his numerous recordings in Current 93, Tibet has embodied the whole apocalyptic tradition, all the while strengthening his admittedly heretical belief in a Patripassianist Christ, who suffers beyond the crucifixion of Jesus throughout the aeons until his second coming (this is but a brief synopsis of Tibet's complicated, Gnostic, and poetic theology).

Black Ships Ate The Sky has been in the works for almost four years, with Tibet's great friend and long-time collaborator Steven Stapleton proclaiming this to be a fantastic recording. Lo and behold, Black Ships Ate The Sky _is_ a magnificent album, returning to the somber acid folk stylings haunted by the shadows and smoke last heard on the earlier masterpieces Thunder Perfect Mind and Earth Covers Earth. As on all of the Current 93 albums, Tibet surrounds himself with an impressive battery of musicians that reads like a who's who of alt-folk-avant-rock greats: Will Oldham, Ben Chasny, Antony (as in .. And The Johnsons), Shirley Collins, Cosey Fanni Tutti, William Basinski, Al Cisneros (from Om), and the aforementioned Steven Stapleton. Black Ships Ate The Sky is thematically based upon Tibet's vision aptly described in the title as it relates to a Christian hymn by Charles Wesley called "Idumae" which repeats itself seven times (eight if you count "Black Ships Were Sinking Into Idumae" sung by Cosey Fanni Tutti), as sung by Tibet's numerous guest vocalists.

As strong as many of the versions of "Idumae" are, Tibet and his peculiar voice are central to Black Ships. He's impassioned throughout, occasionally possessed with an infernal rage as on the second version of the title track, and elsewhere adopting a gentle delicacy. The music swirls around simple guitar arrangements, laced with Chasny's acidic guitar leads and Stapleton's sidereal productions... and it's stunningly good together. Time will tell if this will be the greatest Current 93 record Tibet has produced (as many have already claimed); but it's clearly in the running.

Album Description

"Looking for the Moon" marks the first new solo studio CD for adults since 1994 by Tom Paxton, one of the greatest folksingers and songwriters of this century. On this CD, Paxton presents thirteen original songs emphasizing personal themes that encompass modern day life and the current cultural climate. Many compositions concern the inevitable and insidious march of aging and progress and their effects on average citizens. "The Chisholm Trail became the road to Disneyland," rues Tom in his modern day cowboy song, "My Pony Knows the Way." Small communities crumble beneath economic hard times in "Early Snow" and "My Oklahoma Lullaby." Nature's curative powers are given their due in "My River" and "Come Away with Me," and the tides of love carry the tender "Me and a Couple of Angels," "Marry Me Again" and "Easy Now, Easy." "Homebound Train" is a heartbreakingly poignant account of a ten-year-old boy coping with the death of his father. An early version of the CD's most topical song was a computer-age hit as the most downloaded song, for free, on the efolkmusic.com website - "The Bravest" is Tom's tribute to the heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, particularly the firefighters who risked (and lost) their lives in their rescue efforts at the stricken World Trade Center.

Like Paxton's last two "grown-up" solo records, "Looking for the Moon" was produced by veteran producer/musician Jim Rooney, who has also produced CDs for John Prine and Nanci Griffith, the latter of whom adds backing vocals to two tracks here. Anne Hills, a frequent Paxton partner, contributes beautiful soprano vocals behind Tom on five songs. Other supporting musicians include dobro-player Al Perkins (previously with Emmylou Harris's Nash Ramblers, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and Stephen Stills' Manassas), guitarist Mark Howard, who has backed Iris Dement, Nanci Griffith and John Hartford, pianist Mark Wasner, who has written hits for Vince Gill and Garth Brooks, and relative newcomer Tim Crouch, who boosts the Nashville-recorded CD's country tinges with his nimble mandolin and fiddle.

A great mix of songs. His "The Bravest", a tribute to the fallen firefighters of the 9/11 tragedy is the best that one could ever hope to hear. As a retired firefighter I can tell you that he "nailed" it.

21st century Paxton.......2005-08-16

It is an enjoyable album. However, the witty pointedness present in Tom Paxton's 60's and 70's albums, is gone. Instead there are relevant social comments, a tribute to the fire fighting crews attending the September eleven catastrophe and the odd love song, often performed in a country and western style not present in Paxton's earlier albums.

An album of lovely, contemplative songs. There are songs of loss, such as "Homebound Train". "Marry Me Again" is a wonderful tribute to lasting love.

McCABE'S #4 - Tom Paxton 02-14-2004.......2004-02-16

This is my personal review of Tom Paxton's concert at McCabe's in Santa Monica on Valentine's night 02/14/2004. This was the first concert at McCabe's for my new girlfriend Julie, who had never seen a folk concert before. I was shocked at how much fun she had, as well as myself, as Tom entertained the audience with catchy small numbers and spotlighting his incredible sense of humor and incorporating fun into his music. Tom performed several of his classic songs, along with new songs from this fine album. My favorites would include the title track, "Homebound Train", "Me and A Couple of Angels" and a fine tribute to the NYC Firefighters who died on 9-11-01 in "The Bravest". Tom also did a couple of numbers for us lovers that night, including a new song "Come Away With Me". Along with Tom, special guests Carolyn Haster and her husband David Bloom joined in to perform a song or two from her incredible music library. Overall, A fine concert from one of folk's best performers. Tom honored a special guest in the audience - a man who helped get Tom (and many other folkies) started at Elektra Records 40 years ago, Mr. Jac Holzman. It was an honor to shake his hand after the show just to say 'thank you' - as well as meeting Tom and introducing him to Julie, who seemed to like very much =) He signed my CD "To Joe, Tom Paxton" - Thanks Tom Paxton for a special night. Park, then Listen.......2002-12-08

The first time I heard this CD was while driving and listening to the local folk music show. One moment I was a middle-aged man in a Volvo running errands, and the next I was a longhaired hippy type sailing down the highway in my VW bus, looking for dragons. By the time I got control back I had driven by my home and was on my way to California. I believe that is called spontaneous regression.

Tom Paxton was about as much a part of my post-adolescent years as was the psychedelic music of the sixties. Back in those days it was important to be stirred up by the music to the point where you all sang along and did strange things like group hugs. And nobody does that with the same evocative flair as Tom Paxton. Nowadays many would consider much of this music as a bit too hokey, but back then it brought a tear to one's eye and woke a bit of revolution in your heart.

It still does. From 'Looking for the Moon' to 'Come Away with Me' these are all touchstone songs - melodic, mostly tender, and easy to sing along with. Don't expect deep anguish or heavy sarcasm. Do expect a lot of wistful tenderness and a surprising musical complexity that underlies was initially seems to be simple tune making. I hope this album touches more people than just those liable to sudden nostalgia attacks. It seems to me that the world would be at least a little improved if more people stopped to listen.

For this price you get three album tracks from The Complex. For two dollars less, you can buy the entire album. Great album, but you have no need for this import single. If it had live versions, remixes, previously unreleased tracks or something, maybe, but it doesn't, so don't.

Magical!!.......2006-08-24

The previous reviewer did a good job of describing this album, so I will keep it short. In a word, the music contained on this newly remasterd cd is Magical. It certainly is unlike anything I've ever heard. David Tibet's ideaology conveyed here is masterful. Female vocals are angelic. For me, the guitar playing of Nick Saloman on "Hitler as Kalki"(sdm) is monumental. The mellow skein of acoustic guitars, cello, flute and violin are sublime throughout. A Masterpiece of what I would describe as English/Folk/Pyscadelia, but, that's just what I hear. Pick this beauty up. ASAP. Peace.

A Re-issue of a Classic C93 Album.......2005-12-28

For those who have never heard the album, it is certainly unlike anything you've heard before. Originally planned as a Gnostic version of "The Who's Tommy" it ended up becoming something more personal. Songs range from the achingly beautiful, like "A Sadness Song," to the apocalyptic, like "Hitler as Kalki." All are gorgeous. They are characterized by David Tibet's lyrics steeped in archaic imagery. These lyrics are then enveloped by a folk tapestry made up of 12-string guitars, recorders, violin, harp, and a little sonic manipulation from Steven Stapleton. The overall effect is one that seems cathartic and mystical.
For those already familiar, it is the return of an old friend. Everything is as you remember it but better. The sound has been remastered for a crisper sound and, even better, an extra CD is included of Outtakes from the Thnder Perfect Mind sessions, as well as live versions of some of the songs as they were first performed in Amiens, 1990.
