Peaceful woods, disturbing plains.......2002-01-25
I recommend this Solitudes selection strictly on Part One of this work, *Among the Giant Trees the Wild Pacific Coast*. It is a wonderful, non-musical aural ambient piece that brings you right into the West Coast rainforest. You feel like you are right there among the tall cedars and hemlocks as the sounds of the birds chirp above you, then as you canoe down a stream eventually to the sea, the sounds of the sea become louder until you find yourself among the wild seabirds swinging above you.
Part Two of this CD, however, called *Spring Morning on the Prairies*, is simply too hard to listen to, at least for me. If you've ever seen huge flocks of birds at a bird sanctuary or been to any huge wetlands, you already know what I may mean. To me this half of the selection sounds like one huge 'fowl' feeding-frenzy, which is loud and incessant throughout. If you were looking for a piece to relax with, part two *isn't* it.
Nevertheless, Part One of this CD overcomes my unhappiness with Part Two easily enough, making me recommend the CD strictly for this reason.
Another non-musical Solitudes selection I highly recommend: Tradewind Islands. For those who like having their music too, however, I recommend some other Solitudes selections because they're so wonderful: Rocky Mountain Suite, Spring Awakening, Mountain Sunrise, Forest Piano, Piano Cascades, Zen Garden, Land of the Loon, Stargazing, Emerald Forest, and Journey with the Whales. They are all exquisite.
