Like their white-trash Pennsylvania homeboys in Ween and Dead Milkmen, Bloodhound Gang are offensive, rude, stoopid, and vigorously gutter-minded, but they're better off for knowing what they are. And having admitted it, they also happen to be surprisingly clever and pretty damn funny. The group's second album, One Fierce Beer Coaster (yes, the cover is designed as a beer coaster--a nod to the band's frat-boy constituency), is full of smart lines, great hooks, and creative arranging. Not one of the record's 10 originals misses its mark. Unlike Bloodhound Gang's 1995 debut, Use Your Fingers, which was essentially a sample-heavy rap album with rock tendencies, Beer Coaster features a new backing band for more of a live rock sound, with muscle-bound funk touches and rapping (think 311 or Cake). But while the new Gang members are perhaps more in tune with current rock radio styles, Jimmy Pop remains an MC at heart--enough so, at least, to cover Run-DMC's "It's Tricky" and then duet with Vanilla Ice (on "Boom") and ape Ol' Dirty Bastard. If you doubt his mic skills, check the rapid-fire U.S. tour in "Going Nowhere Slow": Pop names 72 cities in under 30 seconds. Overshadowing both music and vocal chops, though, are the lyrics. Full of TV namedropping (Emmanuel Lewis), shopping lists (No-Doz, Rolos), and gleeful juxtapositions (Jack Kerouac and Gilbert Gottfried in the same line), Pop's rhymes are dense enough to be topical as well: various songs cover feminine hygiene, suicide as population control, acting gay as a way to meet women, and so on. The humor is a guilty pleasure for the politically incorrect. As Jimmy says, "I'm an Alka-Seltzer ... You're a sea gull"--and if you get the joke, you deserve to hear the rest of the record. --Roni SarigCustomer Reviews:
About frigging time!!.......2007-05-18
After only one year...........2007-02-07
Their most ambitious, it sounds so much different compared to Hooray For Boobies. That cd had alot of guitar riffs, and the lyrics are the ones that most people think that the band is only about. While I love that ______ album, it's their most juvenile. But not enough to annoy me. I think the lyrics are pretty cool. It does contain ALong Comes Mary. Their worst song, and only song by them that dosen't get a ten. More like a 3. Damn record company's fault. I bet they could have done better and make the music like the original. Lyrics don't cut it.
That's about it. THis one is way different in a good way. Even Boom is good, although Vannila ICe's part sucks like ______.
Cna't say anything else but buy!

No one likes ya, monkey boy!.......2006-09-07
To say `One Fierce Beer Coaster' redefined dumb, lowest common denominator Rap/Rock is stealing a bit of Limp Bizkit's thunder, but take a look at the similarities. Both bands were/are loved and hated in equal quantities, both were quite keen on borrowing other people's material, and both have white boy wannabe Rappers for front men. But that's where the similarities end. For a start, Fred Durst takes himself far too seriously. Jimmy Pop Ali has a big squishy nose and knows it. Fred Durst couldn't write a rhyme to save himself. Jimmy Pop Ali's lyrics rhyme some of the least expected, dumbest words ever.
From whoa to go, `One Fierce Beer Coaster' is pretty much a series of jokes tacked together and called an album. Much of the humour is self-effacing, the Bloodhounds thinking of themselves as low down Gen-X slacker types, and they're probably right. However, Jimmy Pop and his crew have plenty to say about their safe and boring suburban society, the same way OG Rappers of the past commented on the ghettoes and slums of their youth. Basically, the suburbs are shallow breeding grounds for the mediocre and the superficial. Um, but most of this is just good, dumb fun.
First track "Kiss Me Where It Smells Funny" is an ode to the hazards of oral sex. It has a big, simple guitar riff, a bit of scratching, a few samples, and Jimmy Pop singing like an idiot. And that's pretty much the formula for the rest of the album too.
"Lift Your Head Up High (And Blow Your Brains Out)" touches on teen suicide, basically saying if you're thinking about it because of your crappy life, go ahead and do it, because you suck. "I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks" pre-empted the TV show "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" by a good few years, but basically reinforces the point that what women want in a man is a man who doesn't really want women. "Why's Everybody Always Pickin' On Me?" is self-explanatory, while "Going Nowhere Slow" is a big list of cities The Bloodhound Gang have played in, with New Jersey somehow upsetting the band, so it ain't ever going to be on their itinerary.
Even if they can't write a decent song of their own, Bloodhound Gang can spot a good tune. Stealing the memorable melody line from Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf" for "Your Only Friends Are Make Believe" was probably the brightest thing these guys did on this whole album. It's a slow paced, guitar driven song, breathing new life into the old '80s standard.
Even with their love of homoerotic New Romantic Pop, some things were still too uncool, even for the Bloodhounds. Rob Van Winkel guest starred on "Boom". "So what?", you might say. Another wannabe nobody white boy Rapper, right? Well, yeah, except this one used to go by the name Vanilla Ice, but don't tell anyone, OK? "Boom" is the slickest song on the whole album, the pair trading insults in a good old fashioned face off.
"Fire Water Burn" stands head and shoulders above the rest of the album. Sure, the formula is similar to the other songs, but the tune is the most memorable here, the lyrics the easiest to follow, and the double entendres are the funniest. Try not singing "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire" after hearing it. It's a Rap song for those who hate Rap, and a Rock song for the non-Rocker. This is the song on which Bloodhound Gang have built their career, and good on them for doing so.
If your idea of a good laugh is the day's political cartoon in the paper, don't even bother with `One Fierce Beer Coaster'. If a good time for you involves women with big boobs, inserting foreign objects where they don't belong, beer, and making fun of those less fortunate than yourself, you've found the perfect album.
Strange Hard Rap Rock?.......2006-06-10
Further, this band does rock hard. Believe it or not, this screw-around band puts out the heavy. Also, they do it well. They do it with their own style. And they also hate their former home state of New Jersey as well as tons of other things. This album rocks, raps, blows your mind, makes fun of Mr. Rogers and his mailman from the show, and features a guest performance by Vanilla Ice [or here, Rob Van Winkle].
Like it, love it, or hate: you will not bew indifferent to this work. By the way, try to get the older version on Cheese Factory Records that includes the song Yellow Fever: it is worth it.

Brilliant Album!.......2005-04-12
should've been a huge hit. This is the bands last album produced by Eumir Deodato and is certainly a funky way to go out.But it is also the final album with that kind of flavor and anyone who enjoys Kool & The Gang's funkier music, even with JT Taylor will probably enjoy this more then later, poppier CD's.But while you can snag it,SNAG IT!!

Crammed Full of Excellent Songs.......2006-01-06
It's clear very early on, that The Donuts are not taking themselves that seriously - a quick glance at the personnel with J Bearclaw, Fathead, Peter Extravaganza and John Taint lays out the ground rules for this record. Added to this The Donuts aren't sugar coated or stuffed with jam, but crammed full of excellent songs, ideas and unusual hooks which touch Elvis Costello territory vocally and Midnight Oil thematically. This their third release in the last eighteen months so they're not short of ideas which is borne out by the variety in this 29 minute 12 song record. A quick read through the press release tells us that 'After 12 long months with no new album - a donuts-camp gap of glacial degree that's left more than just creditors and parole gimps wonderings where the Nuts had gone' we're told later..... 'We wanted to cash-in on the whole Live 8 thing' says front nut J. Bearclaw.. 'But we had no idea what the hell the guy was talking about, no way we could have done an interview on third world debt relief. And let's face it, the Boomtown Rats totally sucked'. Back to the music and having read all this I was pleasantly surprised by some catchy pop songs with attitude, that the Gallagher Bros could use to replace their impressions of John Lennon. First up is 'Soon' with a great riff carried along on the chorus 'Soon I Will Be Gone' - next up is the vary catchy 'Detective Con', followed by one the best songs on the record 'Maya Van Rossum's Blues' where we are in Midnight Oil country with its ecological message about pollution - with some clever lyrics 'Dehydrated birds, In the Oily Mud, Swab down their throats, In the rescue tub, The drowning coots, The gannets and the swans, No retirement, On Golden Pond'. This is followed by the title track where the Donuts carry on the pollution theme aimed at the loss of land and the natural environment in the Yukon & Alaska. Other highlights include the catchy 'Red from Mississippi'. There's a real urgency and variety in these 29 minutes, which is missing from so many records these days - my recommendation would be to check out The Donuts at your local patisserie. www.thedonuts.com

Album Description
Reissue of their 1981 album featuring the hit 'Chihuahua' & the original cover art. Malcolm McLaren, of Sex Pistols fame, made teenager Annabella Lwin the centerpiece of his next creation. Backing her with members of Adam & the Ants, they were dubbed Bow Wow Wow and released See Jungle! See Jungle! in 1981. The focus was on style and the music was a mix of dance and new wave always with a heavy nod toward percussion. 13 tracks.Customer Reviews:
Let the buyer beware.......2005-11-01
Several times I have bought the album - only to find out that it wasn't the origional studio recordings but a compilation of '12" singles' that follows the same format. This CD is called "See Jungle" and is produced by BMG and sold as a French Import.
The cover art is different, the songs are different - they are backup studio 12" singles and NOT the same as the songs on the album (In 'Elimination Dancing' the Basist makes really stupid 'Karate Choppy yells' during the entire song, etc. for example) If the seller is good - the will mention that it is NOT the same album, if not - you've spend 80$ on something you'll hate.
If you can get the first album you're all set, but good luck - I'm still looking. This is Adam and the Ants - without Adam, in all their glory. Tribal beats - off beat lyrics - the best the 80's had to offer.
this could have been a Classic...........2004-05-06
Not Deserving Of Thier Maligned Reputation.......2002-02-14
The story goes like this...In 1980,after the meltdown of the Sex Pistols, McLauren "discovered" 14 year old Burmese beauty Myant Myant Aye, rechristened her Anabella Lwin and thrust her in front of a band consisting of Adam and the Ant's former bandmates. McLauren recast Anabella as sexaully precocious, half dressed Lolita-esque singer, cooing lyrics so sexually explicit in content, that you didn't have be Freud to figure this one out. McLauren then added the final flourishes; buccaneer-era period costumes and mohawk haircuts. There were stategically released vinyl singles beginning with "C-30,C-60,C-90 Go!", an anthem which advocated destroying the record industry through home taping music. In 1981, Bow Wow Wow released thier first album with the unwieldly title of "See Jungle!See Jungle!Go Join Your Gang,Yeah City All Over! Go Ape Crazy!", which delighted rock critics all over, because most of them were paid by the word for their articles. Joking aside, Bow Wow Wow espoused an rustic, anarchic society, where people "ran naked in the breeze." Provacatuer McLauren had a field day and the staid Brits were shocked.
The cover of "See Jungle!" (I'm not paid by the word) is a parody of French Impressionist painter Manet's 1863 masterpiece "Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe" (Lunch on the Grass)and was controversial enough to be banned in the USA until 1992. Anabella's mother sued McLauren over Anabella's reclining nudity, an action McLauren certainly relished for it's hype value. The musical content of "See Jungle" with it's raw energy and masterful execution transcend the hype.
The age range of the band was 15-20 years old at the time of this release and each musician had developed highly stylized approach to playing. The first thing you notice is the beat. Drummer Dave Barbarossa's tightly stretched snare and thundering tom-toms evoked ritual drumming of ancient Afican tribes. It was labelled the Brundi Beat, after a West African tribal clan. Matthew Ashman's guitar reverb and tensely knotted licks were straight out of the Duane Eddy school, with a bit of Dick Dale surf guitar lunacy, and spaghetti western noodling thrown in for good measure. Leigh Gorman's cascading bass lines appeared influenced by West Indian soca and West African ju-ju music. Anabella's limited vocal talents were offset by her wild child personna and her intuitive ability to connect with the listener. "Go Wild In the Country", "TV Savage" and "Sinner!Sinner!Sinner!" showcase Bow Wow Wow's volatile chemistry and are the most about the most compelling invitations to dance that you'll ever hear. This CD cries out for a remastering, however. I owned this album in vinyl and the sound is cleanly separated and unimpedied by lower and upper register distortion, unlike this CD.
Finally, I saw Bow Wow Wow live at the Bradford Ballroom in Boston, during their first and only American tour in 1981 and they not only exceeded my expectations, but blew the roof off the joint. In spite, of impessario Malcom McLauern's attention to style and not content, Bow Wow Wow proved themselves as one of the more perfomance ready and road worthy touring bands of the early eighties.
Muddy sound mars otherwise great CD.......2000-08-30
Anybody who is familiar with 1980's music will know the song "I Want Candy," which was their biggest [only?] hit, but there is far more depth to this band. In my opinion, the standout tracks here are Jungle Boy [from which the album takes its full unwieldy title, "See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang Yeah! City All Over, Go Ape Crazy!"], T.V. Savage, Golly! Golly! Go Buddy!, and Go Wild In The Country [the song which prompted me to buy the cassette and made me a fan of Bow Wow Wow about fifteen years ago]. Some of the songs are merely adequate, and there are a few I could do without [Elimination Dancing, for one], but when they are good, they are VERY good.
If you ARE a fan, this is a great album, but if you're just discovering Bow Wow Wow, it may take some time to fully appreciate them. I do have some complaints about the production, though - I don't know where they got the master tape, but the whole thing sounds a bit muddy and muffled [a complaint that I could make about the cassette as well]. Reducing the bass and bringing up the treble will help, but this is obviously a recording from the old days of analog tape and little has been done to brighten things up.
If you aren't familiar with this band, definitely check out the audio clips first - they're a good representation of the unique Bow Wow Wow sound.
