Zodiac Cosmic Sounds Forever.......2007-05-17

Believe it or not, I have the records - both monarual and stereo versions of this classic piece. I have been listening to it since 1969...and have forced and coerced many friends and lovers to listen to this...even used it to help my young son fall asleep.

I listen to it several times a week...and now, thanks to getting the CDS, I can listen to it in my car...and until the days prior to my death.

Listen to it in the dark for sure...listen to it while in bed with someone special...listen to it.

Fine assemblage of sounds befitting the 1967 scene. Some truly unique sounds from esoteric instruments, and some of the first uses of electronic
(moog type) instruments. Good music, narrated, not sung or rapped, one "song" for each of the twelve signs. And, if you are into astrology, you'll have more to talk about. (I don't know enough about it to critique it, but my own sign fits me fairly well)

Zodiac - 'Cosmic Sounds' (Water) 3 1/2 stars.......2007-02-24

Recorded in 1967, but released on CD in 2002. Only album that was put out from this 'experimental psychedelic' artist. I assume it was a basically a one man project with back-up musicians. Only name I could find was Cyrus Faryar, the one who provides the well done spoken word. 'Cosmic Sounds' is okay. No masterpiece but decent enough to give a spin every now and again. Some snippets of this CD's twelve cuts have been heard in the background of an occasional Dragnet episode (like the one with 'Blueboy' + five other drug associated episodes they had), the film 'Riot On Sunset Strip' and several biker movies. Might appeal to fans of Timothy Leary, Tomorrow, Honeycombs as well as other bands produced by the late eccentric Joe Meek.

Great to see on CD, but LP sound is better.......2007-01-27

It is really good to see some reviewers being honest about the sound. However, I imagine that few people have a turntable to say nothing about having a copy of the LP, although you can find it pretty easily and not too expensive. Just to have this on CD is a real good thing. It was considered pretty much exploito stuff at the time, but it was mildly interesting and worked well within certain radio formats. The music is a good example of the times.

I've had the record for Cosmic Sounds for a looong time now and had despaired of *ever* getting it on CD. I was 5 when it originally was released but fell in love with it anyways. Was I estatic when I found it on a sister-site to Amazon. I promptly informed my cousin (another big fan of the album). Then it was simply a matter of hinting broadly and often until the CD ended up in my stocking this Christmas. It's just like I remembered it except without the scratches and pops from the old stereo. Lovely. It doesn't need to be played in the dark but I could use a good blacklight and some velvet fuzzy posters!!

Very relaxing except for the birds.......2006-03-09

The sound of the water rushing over rocks on this CD is very relaxing. The only problem is it also has the sound of birds chirping which is very annoying. I did not hear these birds chirping when I first played the sound sample on Amazon.com. So if you are thinking about buying the CD for the sound of water alone, you may want to look at a different CD.

It's not a dream, a real mountain stream is in your bedroom, to relax and think of nature. The sound is perfect, so real and pure.

Too bad there's no "Zero Stars" rating.......2002-12-15

This disc is BAD!!! Right at the 2" mark the sound of the "rock water" is join by what sounds like a slow draining bathtub. This sound is more or less present throughout the entire hour. Other discs of this type that I've heard don't do this.

The calming sounds of nature.......2001-11-28

I rated this CD five stars because it is exactly what I was looking for. It features approximately an hours worth of the sound of running water (over rocks, presumably) with birds twittering quietly in the background. Very soothing.

Album Description

Earlier in 2004, Buedi Siebert released the CD Om Mani Padme Hum....Here it appears that the always-interesting Siebert is right on track with this slice of East meets West with a greater emphasis on the Land of the Rising Sun. Once again there are meditative qualities but it is delivered in a production and writing style that emphasizes spatial versus spiritual. As a result this album is as enjoyable as 2003's sleeper The Light Dance.

There is no doubting the commercial and meditative qualities that are both present on this CD. This is well reflected in the artwork that integrates elements of nature with the spiritual world.

This German musician is largely known for his work on the flute as well as several other woodwind instruments. However, the first portion of the album concentrates on the large Chinese zither that creates a plucked string sound so prominent in many musical genres of the Eastern culture. The instrumentation is very bare and stripped down, giving the listener much time to ponder and reflect. An exception to this rule is the song "Waterplay" that includes nominal embellishments of what sounds like a distant saxophone or clarinet. Buried in the mix are superfluities that never distract from the naked feel of this album. "Building Chi" continues with this arrangement and progression but this time the flute master steps forward.

Speaking of the flute master, skip forward to the utterly serene "Temple On Green Mountain". It is like a beautiful moment of solitude under the shade of a huge oak tree. And this moment is even further extended as the track merges into the 10-minute long "Song Of The Nightingale".

It appears that the album continues with the nature soundtrack accompaniment courtesy of the track "Into The Distance". Initially, there is a musical theme that fades about halfway through then the nightingale returns accompanied by a soft serene stream. Am I strolling through a sophisticated exotic Japanese garden? The music certainly transports me there ever so gently.

With "Wave Hands Like Clouds", Siebert scores again.

I absolutely love this cd. It helps me sleep, it helps me relax and it helps me focus. Its just a matter what my intent is when i play it. Sometimes softly or a bit louder according to what my needs are. I gave this cd to several friends and they love it as well. If given the chance, this cd can transform a room.

Really Beautiful.......2006-01-31

I wanted the kind of music I hear in movies like Crouching Tiger, Hero, Last Samurai, etc. But I didnt want the "soundtrack" that was composed. This music reminds me of what I hear in chinese and japanese restaurants, as well as in some of the more asian influenced spas I've been to. Lots of flute and strings, very calming, centering, happy.

I think I am being generous with one star here.
David and Steve excel in some genres but should stay away from pure environmental efforts. The waterfall/stream sounds on this CD are loud, harsh, and overdone. The sounds are monotonous and just go on and on and on until you just can't stand it anymore. I have a fair number of music/nature compilations so I know what I'm talking about...this one becomes just plain annoying after a while. There is nothing soothing or serene about it at all.
If you are looking for the absolute best quality nature recordings blended with music, seek out any of Dan Gibson's work and go no further.

Best CD I've found for getting to sleep.......2006-06-16

I have purchased about a half dozen relaxing/meditative CDs, have a clock with "relaxing sounds", and listened to many more CDs. However, Garden of Serenity is the ONLY music I've found which calms my mind at the end of the day and sends me off into a quick, peaceful sleep. It's almost pavlovian - I hear the first four notes and I'm instantly relaxed. I highly recommend this as a sleep aid.

As a massage therapist I was a little worried about buying this because one reviewer was annoyed by the chimes - but they aren't really annoying in the least. I not only use this for my own clients, but I will put it on for myself when I receive one. I'm going for Volume II.

Garden of Serenity.......2002-07-12

My tri yoga instructor uses this in our sessions. It allows you to breathe with the music at your own pace and is conducive to working toward slower, fuller breaths. The music is very tranquil.

This CD is great for meditation, realaxation, unwinding. I use it with my clients when I do visualization exercises with them, and they love it, too. I am excited to see there is a Part II, and am ordering it NOW!
