About the Artist
Bronn Journey, is a gentle master of the classical harp. Encouraged by his Welsh mother, he began studying harp, the national instrument of Wales, together with piano at an early age. Although he can play almost any instrument, he admits that Harp is the only instrument Id dare to play for anyone, and adds that in choosing music to play, Its important to put the listeners feelings first. I try to do things that others want to hear.

Priceless, at any price.......2007-07-06

Years ago, watching peter Jennings cover the funeral procession of Princess Diana, my soul was captured by some hauntingly beautiful music that at times played in the background. So began my mission to find out what it was, who wrote it and how I could get it. After some correspondence with the network I was put in touch with the woman who "put together" that part of the programming. All she could remember is that it came from the movie "Black Beauty". THEN I found out how many versions of that had been made lol. With determination, I finally found it, and had a local music store order it for me.
There are no words to describe what this music does to me. I did try listening to some of the other tracks, but they didn't even come close. I rate this music right up there with the 1971 score for "Jane Eyre" by John Willams... and that's pretty high :D

Very nice overview of Elfman work. Insufficient by itself but worth having along with the full soundtracks. Bonus disc is a nice extra.

I Love Danny Elfman's music so much that I have started my own collection of the soundtracks that he composed. For a while, I was trying to find the "Beetlejuice" theme song from the TV show, but thanks to this release, I finally have it!!! Keep up the good work Elfman!

Music For A Darkened Theater, Vol.2 is a great cd!!! I love all of the tracks on both cd's,but my fav. ones are the t.v. scores and the This Is Halloween demo!!! If you love this,then i recomend looking at all the actually albums on this cd and his other works!!!! good job,Danny Elfman.

Bring on Volume 3.......2005-05-04

The liner notes and "This is Halloween Demo" on this compilation are well worth the CD price by themselves. Danny comments on each of the tracks on the CDs which is a rare and ego-free look at what a composer thinks of his own work.

Edward Scissorhands is magical, Black Beauty is a rollercoaster of emotion, and Dolores Claiborne makes me want to find the nearest piano. This is not a "Most Popular" compilation, rather it aptly showcases Danny Elfman's (and Orchestrator, Steve Bartek's) brilliance and wide range of style.

Every suite has an Elfman signature, such as the layered complexity which never sounds overdone, or the use of a choir as an instrument.

This (and Volume 1) are examples of the work of a modern day composer who consistently stands out as one of the best.

If you like this and have the spare cash, grab the individual scores from some of the movies he has worked on, including "Men In Black", "Spiderman", "Batman", "Batman Returns", "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Edward Scissorhands", "Mars Attacks" and so many more.

File Next To "Babes In The Wood".......2003-11-18

I found Mary Black back in the 90's through her very popular album "Babes In The Wood". Since then I have purchased several of her other albums but never found one that quite captured the incredible magic of "Babes"...until now. I listened to this album chasing the sunset westward on a cool fall evening and fell in love with this woman's singing all over again. The song "The Loving Time" really got to me. I need to review her discography further to find if there are more albums that strike in the same range.

Mary Black's Best Songs.......2001-11-27

I got this CD by chance at my local thrift store but I'm writing to tell you that it is worth every penny Amazon is asking for it. Mary Black has a beautiful voice that enchants and keeps you coming back for more. I actually got tears in my eyes listening her sing "Ellis Island", a song about an immigrant leaving for Amercia and saying goodbye. At the same time, your toe will tap along to songs like "Carolina Rua" and "Soul Sister". Emmylou Harris sings a duet with Mary in the well known "A Woman's Heart". And "Bright Blue Rose" is spiritually uplifting. My very favorite song on this album is "No Frontiers" where Black sings with such feeling; her voice just soars. I highly recommend this album as it has most of Mary Black's best songs up to the date it was released (1995).

Mary Black has a beautiful voice and some magnificent songs, but she suffers from albums that have too much filler. This collection solves that problem.

Looking Back contains a collection of fantastic performances that has earned a place on my all-time list. Do yourself a favor and get it.

We finally have an affordable Conway Twitty CD with most of his rock and roll hits. For those who know Conway as a country artist, this may not be for you. The only problem I have with this collection is the ommission of one of his greatest rock and roll songs - A Million Teardrops. It's still a must pick-up for lovers of '50's rockabilly.

Beautiful, Romantic Music!.......2006-09-09

Like many others, I discovered this CD because of Sex in the City and LOVE it. If "Anna" is the song that appeals to you, you'll be absolutely swept away by Regina Carter's Paganini, which is exquisite and was also played on the show.

Sex and the City.......2006-04-08

Looks like a good bit of people bought this for the same reason. Anna from the end episode "La Douleur Exquise!" of season 2 of Sex and the City. Aparently other songs from teh CD were in the show too.

I had to do a good bit of googling before I finally found out the song and artist. Listening to the whole song is no disappointment...

...however the other CDs advertized by this artest seem inordinanly different... I heard somewhere that this song was made because it did a better job of representing what the artists grandmother would have liked (who gave him everything she owned when she passed away simply because she loved the fact that he wanted to study music)...

Anyhow, the end result was a very good song.

Like a lot of other people, my intention in purchasing this album was to hear the 'Anna' track that I had heard and fallen for on a particular Sex and the City episode. Turns out the rest of the tracks are just as magnificent. I'd highly recommend this to anyone seeking some truly touching and pleasant sounds.

I first heard Gunnar Madsen on Sex and the City. I couldn't figure out what song it was, but I would play it over and over with Carrie's voice over and everything. Then I figured out it was "Anna" and a moment later bought this CD. It is better than I expected, only having heard "Anna." I play this CD all the time. It is perfect for when I'm reading, driving, cooking, doing anything. It's fabulous!

Album shows that Thomas is one of Canada's best!.......2003-08-17

I am greatly surprised at the fact that Ian Thomas has been almost forgotten entirely when people talk about Canada's great songwritters of the 70's and 80's. During these two decades Ian Thomas wrote songs that became monster hits on Canadian radio but for a very strange reason, hardly made any noise on American radio. It wasn't unless a popular american band such as Santana did one of Ian's songs that it became a hit there (Remember all the success Santana had with "Hold on"?). Anyway, if you listen to this CD you'll see just how good Ian really was. Even 18 songs isn't enough for this album for it lacks 4 distinct hits that Ian had. For example, "I'll do you right was one of his biggest songs ever and there was no room for it on this album. The album also surprisngly lacks the three hits ("Levity","Back to square one", and "Another one just past by") off Ian's last solo album in 88 "Levity", making a total of four hits that could've been on this album as well. Despite this though, the CD is great to listen to and it's nice that they ordered the songs in when they were written so you could see how Ian progressed throughout the 70's and 80's. Overall, the album is one of the most used albums in my collection and is a must-have for any fans of canadian music.

Face to face with 80Â's best.......2003-04-15

Amazing!! This could probably be one of 80's music most remarcable albums. Hall & Oates with their very different styles on music (one gosspell and blues, the other one soft rock, jazz) really made a huge contribution to music. This duet, has left it's print in the history of music.
The songs presented on this cd are for collectors. Don't miss the opportunitie of getting it. YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS BUY!!!!!

I love this cd It has the songs I loved but I was Very, Very disapointed to find that they didn't add the song I also loved "Say it isn't so" to the roster of greatest because it was. This lost a star on my rating. I don't know who decided it wasn't. :( other than that I enjoy the cd it brought back good memories :)

This is Nat King Cole's sleepy material.......2006-02-12

The late Nat Cole is one of those treasures of American Music. He was a great Jazz pianist and singer, no doubt. Also a stylish balladeer with great albums but with some neglectable ones.

This EMI twofer shows two sleepy albums. One with a great repertoire but with such boring honey and sleepy arrangements by Gordon Jenkins. Another with neglectable material and arrangements.

Two songs are featured originals: Edward Redding's 'The End of A Love Affair'and Jack Segal's 'I Keep Going Back to Joe's. Great songs.

Here you'll find Mr. Cole at his best in vocal performance but ...

A Note on UK's EMI twofers: it's incredible that we could ever have the opportunity to listen to such old and rare material. EMI has issued a long series of CD twofers in a memorable initiative to show all the splendid material by splendid artists never before released in CD.

I am a big fan of Nat King Cole but by no means do I love everything he recorded. I think his best albums were the 3 with Gordon Jenkins arrangements. The last was "Where Did Everyone Go?" which is included here. For some reason this album has not been reissued on CD in the US. Instead a few cuts from it were added to the CD release of "Love Is The Thing", the 1st Cole/Jenkins album. Anyway, the second album here is "Looking Back". While very different from the string arrangements on the 1st album and also including the added "rhythm track" I think this album is quite good also. I have listened to the whole CD numerous times since I purchased it and have not tired of it at all. My favorite track is "When the World Was Young", one of the most beautiful vocals he ever recorded in my opinion. A definite must for your Nat Cole collection.

"Where Did Everyone Go?" and "Looking Back" gives you 23 of the finest vocals by anyone in musical history...the sound is marvelous stereo...there should have been more like this, but this is it, so cherish the moment...listening to Nat though, is always great...he had a tenderness in his voice, completely flawless...he could never deliver a bad tune...his style and signature of making a song his own has never been duplicated...within this twofer album are songs of the day back in 1963 and 1965...some are timeless and remain classics, while others are songs that have never seen the light of day...but this release is a dream come true...more selections from the greatest entertainer of our time...cause Nat King Cole rules.

You can't go wrong with any of Cole's albums that are now on CD...both are excellent, many are hard-to-find and some not well known...highlights and stand outs are the entire album with the first part of the disc "Where Did Everyone Go?":

when it comes to interpretation and expertly performed, Nat is the master at his craft.

The one and only master of interpretation...no other singer in the business had the warmth that this man gave during a performance or recording session...along with Frank Sinatra, Cole built the Capitol Towers and brought them fame and fortune...Nat King Cole in my estimation did more for Capitol Records than any other recording artist of that time (and that my friend is saying something), but it is gospel.

Brilliant counter melodies interwoven with lingering arrangements by Gordon Jenkins that instantly became classics...beautiful and heartfelt ballads with classic orchestrations... arrangements by Gordon Jenkins and David Cavanaugh featuring Nat's original style are simply captivating...with tender lyrics that bring two lovers together...almost like your wedding vows, Nat sings this from the heart and you're loving it...throughout the evening sample this with your favorite partner...as Nat completely takes charge savoring wonderful memories of the good times.

Nat was awarded a posthumous plaque to the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame, naming him one of the major early influences on rock 'n' roll...they'll never be another pass this way again...thank you Captiol for this release of Nat "King" Cole for the decades of music that followed...his songs will remain with us always and forever...just the way we like 'em!

Another missed opportunity ..........2003-12-15

On the one hand, it's always nice to have a cd version of a great lp. On the other hand, when you've got the chance to correct the errors of the past and you don't make the most of it the end result just turns out to be another exercise in frustration. "Where Did Everyone Go" was Mr. Cole's third outing with Gordon Jenkins conducting and is a magnificent album BUT two tracks - "Happy New Year" and "Farewell to Arms" were recorded and not included in the final product. These two tracks appeared after Mr. Cole's death on a compilation album ("Nat Cole Sings the Greats Songs") with the cursed added rhythm tracks that ruined most of his post-death releases. How nice it would have been to have them included here in stereo and in their original forms. I guess that'll be for another generation. As for "Looking Back" we now have a cd version of this post-death release on which every track was altered by adding the horrible rhythm track and enhancing it for stereo. Was it really necessary to have a cd version of this? It would have been much nicer to go back to the original masters and set things right.

"Where Did Everyone Go?" gives you 12 of the finest vocals by anyone in song history, all in one achingly sad work. Listen in a dark, quiet, lonely room. Its drama and atmosphere will haunt you. All strings and the King's awesome voice. The sound is marvelous stereo. There should have been more like this, but this is it. Cherish it. "Looking Back" gives you some random tracks, mostly of a slight early R&B/rock slant and all overdubbed with extra rhythm stuff. Those songs aren't so great. The overdubs are dumb. The sound is mediocre. Listening to Nat though, is always great. Consider them wonderful bonus tracks for a great album. Get it. Nat King Cole Rules.

This is a collection of songs that were essentially outtakes when initially recorded - I assume released in 1969 so the company could put out another recording and capitalize on the Clapton/Green/Taylor connection (as well as Mayall, of course who was a star too). If you like white blues this is a lovely recording -- who cares it is a collection rather than all of piece? "Stormy Monday" is breathtaking Clapton recorded live - compare his barnstorming approach to the laid back Allman Bros recording on "Live at the Fillmore" and you can see why Clapton was so influential to heavy rock. Unmistakable and very powerful! Still in my view Peter Green (perhaps as usual?) provides the most tasty additions to most of the tracks. His solo on "Looking Back" is an absolute classic of its type - squeeze a meaningful and dynamic solo into one minute of song and then stop. Economy is what it is all about. I wish I could play like that. As others say earlier, "Jenny" is another unusual track with great melacholia (a Green characteristic) as is "So Many Roads". As usual with these Decca/London-Mayall recordings the sound is just lovely and the band are wonderfully full of character. Definitely white, definitely blues and they know when to stop as well as start playing - tasteful is probably the word for it. I recommend it. If you have the "BB with Eric Clapton" and "A Hard Road" and "Bare Wires", then I think this is next on the list.

okay collection.......2003-08-12

A collection of singles and odds and ends from Mayall's period with Decca [UK]/ London [US], roughly 1964 to 1966 [according to the "Twenty years On" liner notes on the CD version] like the 1971 collection feature the work of Roger Dean on two tracks, Eric Clapton & Jack Bruce on one cut, one with Mick Taylor and Peter Green on the reamining seven tracks.

"Mr James" an early B side is a nice cut, "Blues City Shakedown" is unremarkable, the Clapton/Bruce [with Hughie Flint on drums] take of "Stormy Monday" which remained unreleased up to that point, sounds like a live cut, possiby from the same show that produced "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" on the Clapton Crossroads set.

"So Many Roads" features Mayall's vocal through a Leslie speaker and Peter Green on signature guitar with great tone and reverb and features subdued horns. "Looking Back" features the horn more prominently, but not in a bad way. It's a nice bouncy almost soulful track. "Sitting in the Rain" is a nice subdued blues. "It Hurts Me Too" is also unremarkable blues. "Double Trouble" features Green doing tasty tasty bends, possibly a forerunner to Fleetwood Mac's "Before the Begining." "Suspicions [Pt II]" featuring Taylor is more horn driven, and I recommend Part I from the 'Thru The Years' collection much higher. "Jenny" is Mayall and Green dueting on sad mournful blues, a real gem on this record. Finally, "Picture on the Wall" with Peter on steel guitar [proabaly lap steel, not the country pedal steel] is another great gem.

Overall, a decent collection, but not the place to START exploring the influential Mayall.

Green Gold Foumd Here.......2001-11-08

Yes, Eric Clapton is here, and he sounds great. But, (and this is a BIG BUT)the real treasure found here is the playing of Peter Green. Forgotten by most or not known by most here in the USA, Green was one of the greatest white blues guitar players ever. B. B. King once said the only white guitar player that made him sweat was Peter Green! Mayall brought many greats into the limelight and got their careers started. The greatest of these was Peter Green. If you like his supurb playing here, check out the early years of Fleetwood Mac (late 60's, early 70s). This album is great and should be a part of every blues/rock collectors collection.

Stormy Monday may be Claptons greatest recorded guitar solo.......1998-06-13

This is when Clapton was at the peak of his blues prowess. You don't hear many like this anymore.
