Granted, they only need it for one composition (the last one, "The James Bond Theme") but still, without the guitar it's just not the same. Barry didn't compose this one so I suppose it was a bonus and I shouldn't complain, really. The rest of the music on all the CDs is fantastic. Some of the stuff I had heard before without realizing who had composed it. Very enjoyable, to say the least.

A Variety Of Classics!.......2005-12-06

John Barry has been composing film scores for over forty years and this is only scratching the surface of his productions. Never mind that the entire set is recorded by the Prague Philharmonic; it's pure to Barry's themes. While John Williams compositions ("Star Wars", etc.) are wild and flamboyant and Jerry Goldsmith's (Hoosier's, etc.) are mood pieces, John Barry crosses over all barriers and is amazingly diverse. Barry has recorded most of the exciting James Bond themes, melodramatic classics like "The Lion In Winter' and moody theme hits like "Midnight Cowboy". He also tugs at the heartstrings with compositions from, "Somewhere In Time", "Frances" and "Out Of Africa". He varies his themes for all types of films and few composers capture it so well.

There is over four hours of music in this set with a colorful and informative booklet.

Incredible Barry Collection.......2004-03-11

Any fan of movies will absolutley love this collection. Being a movie buff I couldn't wait to get this boxed set. Knowing Barry from all the James Bond movies, I did not realize his involvement with so many others. The orchestra is magnificent in all these themes. I'm listening to "High Road to China" right now and I'm drifting in the clouds in a Tiger Moth with Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong. If you are familiar with a movie it will definitely have you seeing it again, if not the scores are still beautiful. Any fan of classical music will be pleased as well. Travellers will defintitely enjoy it for a long drive. I know from when I use to travel that music like this made the miles float by faster. I highly recommend these four CDs even if you just know a handful of the songs.

One Of His Best.......2003-06-07

If one can get past the laughably bad Star Wars opening track, this album is a stunner. Though lacking the fluid continuity of his previous efforts, Tomita manages to select darker, more beautiful, and more moody pieces than before, creating an incredible dream-like atmosphere without resorting to the usual space-ship and "alien" sounds that tarnished The Planets and The Bermuda Triangle. His sound became larger, more ambient, and denser. The final Bach medley "The Sea Named Solaris" is Tomita's finest hour, and this album is a must for any fan or Tomita's work, or of electronic music. A flawed but still great work.

I have been a new-age music listener for over ten years (but still, rock music is my music). This CD is my favorite of ALL new-age CDs. It seems that, although I have changed a lot throughout the years, the magic of this CD remains unchanged in my ears ... and heart. It is like good wine: the older it gets, the better it tastes!

Great example of New Age at its best........1998-11-01

Before I could care less about new age music, this recording was one of my all time favorites. Peter Davison easily blends his music on so many levels, you actually tend to feel *inside* of the music when you listen to this recording. Turn To Dust (the first song) starts what the other songs continue as a journey to a higher level of subconsiousness. I find this cd is best enjoyed while falling asleep, the music is so easily flowing, that it seems to take you away.

Comes on gently, like a sunrise through fog. Though there are tenser moments that distantly recall Wolf Colonel or even an uber-blissed out MBV, for the most part simple elements like echo and drone are used as environmental elements to create a sonic blanket that manages to be soothing and fascinating all at once.

Blissful sounds.......2001-03-09

Yume Bitsu creates some wonderfully delicate sounds on this album. The longer songs are expansive without being empty and devoid of structure and the shorter songs quite a surprising punch. The creaking opening of "The Wedding Procession" develops slowly and quite beautifully, something of a highlight for the album. "Sharp, Twisted" has an organic shoegazer quality to it that is a nice balance to the longer songs. The band uses repetitive waves of sound to mask some of the more delicate work, something that becomes obvious after repeated listens. If you like Windy & Carl, Fuxa or Japancakes, then odds are you'll find something on this disc to enjoy.

Yume Bitsu have made a beautiful and moody cd. Somewhere between mogwai and ride with a hint of guided by voices. Doctor trips is the stand out track which has everything from the sound of rain to toy telephones. Very sweet.
