About the Artist
Mohammad Eghbal grew up in his native Persia in a household suffused with philosophy, poetry, and mysticism, and was especially inspired by the Sufi tradition. A turning point in his life was meeting a Dervish who played the ney (reed flute) and sang songs from the mystic Rumi. Mohammad was enraptured with the concept of working with the healing energy he had experienced through that music. through the years he has bulit and designed many instruments, learning to use their sounds and vibrations as well as the natural instrument of his voice. he is an acknowledged master of the ney, the dom bak (earth drum), daf (sky drum), sitar and ud (lute).

Christa, who was already a talented musician on both piano and Guitar, met Mohammad while searching for the orginal music in eastern countries. She has since developed a passion for the never-ending magical sounds she is able to create with a variety of oriental instruments. The couple have been playing with Sangit Sirus for several years.

Sangit is also a native Persian and began his study of the violin and ud at the age of 10. Stongly influenced by that culture and the Sufi tradition, and also interested in the listing habits of the modern west, Sangit has developed a distinctive and enriching style of Sufi music.

Product Description
Exotic and tantalizing, the original interpretations of Sufi dance music on Sufi's Vision delve deeply into the soul, liberating the desire toward ecstatic dance that excites healing and meditation. Throughout this richly composed and performed release, the ney (Persian flute) expresses the subtle varieties of human emotion with its supple, eloquent tone, weaving a slender, enchanted ladder of escape from stress and tension. Remarkable string compostions drift through shimmering veils of melodic mysticism, while the ney spirals entreatingly through percussion texture. Tenderly caressed strings ripple and tumble gracefully the notes often rising like a meadow of lilies or a filed of golden wheat. A singularly beautiful duet of percussion and violin in Flow evokes the image of graceful trees swaying in a playful wind. Mesmerizing drumbeats and circular melodies are accented in several compositions by Persian chanting which echoes the heart's yearning for deep transf! ormation. In the Nightingale tradition of harmonious, atmospheric music, these compostions awaken inner joy, creating an exquiste opportunity to experience surrender to the divine through the whirling ecstasy of Sufi dancing.

4 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as "Baba Taher".......2000-08-30

This third Album of the German-Iranian Sufi-Group Ahura (means "Universal Energy") can be recommended for those who are already known to Sufi-Music and like the dark, melancholic sound of it (especially relevant for the track "Omar Khayyam"). It would also be helpful if you were able to understand Persian. If you are a curious nature and not afraid of listening to unknown sounds and instruments you might start your Ahura-fanship with this album. Anyway, for Western listeners I would prefere to recommend the first album: "Baba Taher", which presents the Sufi-message of the universal love guiding us to ecstatic unification with god by a lighter and easier sound, that leads you to deep relaxation and happiness. The few lyrics that are found on "Baba Taher" are partially in English, which makes it easier for Western listeners to like it, as they are able to understand the meaning of what they are listening to. This ist not the case when you listen to "Sufis Vision", unless you already have a relationship to oriental music. I recommend it for "advanced" listeners. Of the three Ahura-albums I posess, it's the one I like less, but it's nontheless fascinating.
