....and thats no criticism. A potpourii of tibetan flavors: starting with a deep split vocal cord tibetan prayer which extends beyond imaginable pulmonary capacity. That blends into eastern chanting. Then a backdrop of groovy wahwah moog music accompanies this chantric trance mix. Tibetan Calypso? And back to some more prayer before we are joined by some new age feel good chanting. This blue skinned medicine monk music purports to bring inner healing through its encodement of transformation from within the spirit. Well anyway you can feel the effort Goldman has put into this CD and the power of these harmonics. If your into mantra you will enjoy this CD.

soft meditative soothing.......2002-05-14

The music on this cd draws heavily from Tibetan tradition to create a listening experience of being set aright. The most common instrument on the cd I think is the voice -- Tibetan overtone chanting, vocal harmonies, & choruses. Goldman also uses singing bowls & other Tibetan bells & instruments -- even Pythagoran tuning forks -- to create music of true balance.

A Centering, Embodied Experience.....very healing.......2002-03-25

I walked into a Tibetan store on Pearl Street in Boulder Colorado and this cd was playing. I couldnt help but notice how the deep Tibetan chants almost immediately brought me to center. It seemed like the music had an embodying effect on me and brought me to a sense of wholeness.

I was looking at different items, as I was trying to find a gift, and the music kept calling my attention. By the time I got to the back of the store, I had to have the cd. Few have had such a noticeable effect on me.

I now play this at home sometimes when Im meditating or just as background chant/music. It still has that same effect on me. It transports me to a temple in Tibet where I'm engulfed in the deep deep sounds of healing melodies and chants..... surrounded by compassion; the signature of the Tibetan monks. This cd is a gift to ones sense of being.

The "Buddha of Medicine" offers little more than snake oil in a 2-track CD comprising the same looping tape in each track. With its slithering synthesizers and bippity-bop percussion backing up an electronic, stringed instrument and some slick voices, it is about as remniscient of Buddhist music as the tunes arranged by Mitch Miller. The album's redundancy and vacuity may be good medicine for insomnia, but those who are interested in hearing authentic Buddhist music may want to pass it up. Suggestion: try something other than Tibetan Buddhist chants for a change and listen instead to the Vietnamese variety offered on "Anthology of World Music: The Music of Vietnam" (Rounder CD 5140/41). The 2-CD set offers a good cross-section of Vietnam's music, including two intriguing Buddhist chants. Much more interesting and healthful than the coma induced by "The Buddha of Medicine."

Medicine Buddha Puja is the prayer offering for the Healing Buddha and is a professional recording of traditional sacred Tibetan chanting and music performed by Buddhist monks. All proceeds from sales of this CD go to assist the monastery in South India where Gaden Jangtse is being rebuilt. The CD itself is a prayer wheel with the sacred words (Mantra) on the CD disk. As the CD spins it sends out the prayers while the monks chant.
